Chapter 27- The wedding

It was later that night during dinner that her father noticed her necklace. “That’s lovely, is it new?”

“What?” she asked, not sure what he was talking about.

“The necklace that’s around your neck.”

Her hand immediately went to the heart necklace, she couldn’t tell him the truth. “This old thing, no father. I’ve had it for ages, I just never wore it until now.”

“Where is your engagement ring?”

She knew she had forgotten something and could tell her father was not pleased. “I took it off when I showered and never thought to put it back on. But honestly, I hate it, it’s so heavy and bulky.”

“Clint went to the trouble of getting it for you and it’s really rude of you not to wear it,” he said, then he waved the maid over. “Go to my daughter’s room and bring down her diamond ring right away.”

“Can you not at least ask the woman instead of ordering her like one would a dog?”

“Since when do you care how the help is treated?” he asked, his eyes narrowing. When she just shrugged her shoulders
