Chapter Sixty

Saira gaped at him in disbelief, not quite believing what she had heard him say. Her mouth opened and closed like a fish several times before she finally shut it.

"Well?" He asked.

"Is that what you want?" She questioned in a flat voice.

"Is that what you want?" He echoed.

"I asked you first." She said.

"You didn't answer my first question."

"Why would you think... I'd be thinking of something like that?" She frowned.

"Isn't it obvious? He just left and you lied." He responded. "That's how it begins. We drift apart until there's nothing to salvage anymore, so I want to clear things up before it gets to the stage where we can't even be in the same room."

"I... No, that's not what I want." She shook her head.

Ethan's breath left him in a whoosh as if he'd been holding it in without knowing.

"So... What's going on then?" He queried. "We now talk on the phone like virtual strangers. We don't even say I love you anymore."
