Aria's POV
My ankle was killing me. The forest held so many secrets. Secrets I didn't want to know about. The rustling in the bush got louder and louder. I hugged myself, staring at it. Suddenly, a rabbit jumped out of the bush. "Thank goodness." I heaved a sigh of relief. Continuing the walk that seemed like a journey without an end, I couldn't see any sign of human being, only trees stretching further into distances of darkness. How long would I journey before I would be able to see any signs of houses or people living around? I asked myself, sighing in agony. Still aware of the excruciatingly annoying pain in my ankle and the fact that I had been walking on foot all this time, the thought of perhaps taking a little rest came to me, but I just couldn't. Not in a forest like this, where no one could tell what each tree and shadow held. Shifting into my wolf, I decided to take a run. Feeling the wind in my hair, I tried my best to ignore the pain in my ankle. For hours, I ran with hopes of getting out of the forest or glimpsing anything that looked like a sign of hope. A few times, I felt like I heard things. Other times, I felt like I saw shadows running with me, taking refuge behind trees. I immediately turned to look at them. I ran for hours, meeting nothing but more and more trees. Ignoring the pain in my ankle already making my feet numb, I amplified my speed, eager to find an opening or something like it. After what felt like hours of hopeless seeking, I reluctantly slowed down beside a tree about nine feet long. When I finally slowed down, I sat at the foot of the tree, taking refuge behind its shadows, my mind wandering back to all that had happened. Clutching my heart, I could feel the pain I had felt when Alpha Kane rejected me all over again. It was nothing like I'd ever felt in my entire life as an omega. The shouts of anger and disgust that came from the people as I was dragged out, how I reeked of both alcohol and dried food, and sweat all from the food and alcohol that was thrown at me. How my plea had fallen on deaf ears, how I was banished for being Alpha Kane's mate, how my life had taken a drastic turn aside from it's usual turns in just a night, brought clumps of tears to my throat that I had to force myself to push back. "Your main priority is to find a way out of here as fast as possible, not cry." I told myself as I was trying to rise from the floor to continue my journey. The pain that hit me from my ankle was so strong that my body went still while my mind went blank for what felt like a minute. The pain was so intense that I had to sit back down to take a look at it. It was swollen and sore from all the dragging and rough pushing I had received, including the sprint I had taken a few hours back. "Just a few resting minutes." I told myself to rest on the tree. "A few minutes of rest, then I continue." ***** I could hear the twittering of birds and the rustling of bushes as something ran by across my leg. Against my cheek, I could feel something nestling close to me. "Day break?!" I yelled to the forest as I opened my eyes, causing the squirrel beside me to scamper away while sending the birds on the tree I was sitting under into a flight of fear. I had just decided to take a short break before continuing my journey, but I had slept off till morning. Looking at my ankle, the swelling had gone down, so the red color had faded. Rising to my feet, I continued walking. As I kept walking, I saw what looked like a stream a few kilometers away from me. Walking cautiously, careful not to stress my injured ankle, I got to the stream. Kneeling down, I drank to my fill. "Gosh! I haven't eaten since yesterday." I realized this after I heard the grumbling in my stomach. There were no fruit trees in sight, but squirrels, along with other little animals, were running around. I shifted into my wolf to hunt, so I targeted the first squirrel but failed to catch it. Finding a new target, I was twice as focused as I was on the first one, catching it this time. After about three minutes, I had three bush animals in my possession. All that was left was a fire to roast them. Moving around the stream, I found dry sticks, which I set together in preparation for a fire. It remains how to start a fire now. I had heard of methods of using stones to make fire. But I don't know if there were stones of a special kind reserved for tasks like these. Finding the first two stones three steps from where I stood, I struck them together. Nothing. Finding another stone, I struck it with two of the stones I had already found, but still nothing. I walked around the stream searching for stones, striking them together until I struck a particular set and saw sparks. Striking them harder again made the sparks bigger. And by the third time, I had made a fire. Sitting beside the fire, I stuck a stick through the first animal I had caught to roast it. I did this for all three, ate them, and drank from the stream. By the time I was done eating and resting, the sun was already high in the sky. Getting up, I walked until sunset. Still, I saw no sign of an end to the forest. At this time, I didn't even know where I was or where I was headed. All I could think of was, "If only I could just find an opening." Night came, then another day. There was no sign of an opening. Another night, another day. Still nothing except trees and trees that stretched on forever. "Would I really die out here in this forest? Is this what's meant to be my fate?" I asked, limping from the pain in my ankle from the long walks I had subjected it to. Walking further, I heard the rustling of bushes and then the breaking of a twig behind me. "It's just another rabbit." I told myself to continue what seemed like a walk of endlessness. Suddenly, I saw movements beside me. At this point in time, I could feel the hairs at the back of my neck rise. Without thinking much, I began to run. I ran, looking back every now and then to check if I was being followed. After about fifteen minutes, I stopped running and turned in the direction I had run from. I was all alone. Walking backwards, I bumped into a tree. "Thank goodness." I breathed, sliding down the tree, only to land on feet and not roots. Before I could turn to find out who I had bumped into, I had become surrounded by men armed with weapons. Almost immediately, I was knocked out. ***** I woke up to the sound of voices giving orders, footsteps, and chatter. Sighing, I was finally safe. "Is she still asleep?" I heard someone say "What do you think?" A second person responded. "Let her be." The first person who had spoken said, "Let's leave. Lock back the dungeon." The dungeon?!? I gasped, my eyes flying open, just as they were both locking the dungeon I was in. "Wait!!" I yelled, scampering over to the door they were locking. "What am I doing here? I'm not supposed to be here." "You should have known what you signed up for when you trespassed." The one locking the door, which sounded like the second person before said. "Trespassed? I don't trespass." I said, grabbing the bars of the dungeon. "You trespassed upon the grounds of Moonlight Pack." The first man spat. "Satisfied?" He asked, shooting daggers at me through his eyes. Moonlight Pack. A pack of warriors. A pack where the strongest of the strong wouldn't dare to carelessly enter. A pack where trespassers were not treated lightly. Run by the fearsome Alpha Lucas, a man who trained all the members of his pack, including the women, servants, and maids, to be warriors. This was where I had trespassed into. "I can't be here!" I screamed, shaking the dungeon bars. "Keep an eye on her while I get Beta Cole." The second man said to another guard. No. This cannot be happening. I thought as my mind dug into the possibilities of what this place held in store for me. "Did I just move from one trouble to an even bigger trouble in just less than four days?" How bad could my life get? My heart sank immediately. I saw the guard that was sent to call Alpha Lucas' beta come in with someone. The guard moved to the cell where I was and pointed at me. "Pleasure to meet you. I'm Cole."Third-person POV As Cole, being led by the guard, walked into the dungeon, he thought of this as nothing but another trespass made by a spy who would claim to be innocent. When he was shown the cell Aria was put in, he found her in a corner of the cell, looking like a lost sheep. A female omega, a rare thing in history, he was shocked, but only for a while. When he locked eyes with her, he immediately felt a strong urge to protect her. The one that a friend or an older sibling has towards a very close friend or a younger sibling. Wondering why he felt this way over an omega, he linked minds with Alpha Lucas. "Pleasure to meet you. I'm Cole." He said. Aria, staring at the muscular blonde-haired, golden-eyed mid-tall man, gathered the little strength she had left in her. "I really didn't know that I had trespassed." She said. "This is a misunderstanding." Looking at her, the honesty in her eyes and the way she said that she didn't intentionally trespass made her more intrigued. C
Third Person POV “Mate?“ she questioned her sanity. Could it really be that simple? Was the moon goddess playing a joke on me? Hadn't I suffered enough? More so, the man looked terrifying. Whatever had I done to the moon goddess? All these emotions went through her head, but she didn't dare to say anything. “Everyone, get out!“ The man yelled, and she whimpered lowly in her throat. She couldn't let him hear her for fear that would warrant a whipping. She thought he wanted to be alone with her to punish her, but the Alpha couldn't bear the thought of any other man perceiving her sweet scent. The Beta gave his Alpha a sideways glance, but he obeyed his orders anyway. He and the other men left the area. He didn't take his eyes off her for a moment. Not once. He was not even blinking while she was looking everywhere other than at him. He looked terrifying. The way he stood there blocking the light couldn't even let her see his features clearly because he was backing the light and his
ARIA'S POV I've been in the Moonlight Pack house for two weeks now. While everyone has been nothing but nice to me, I still can't help the feeling of deep distrust. The feeling like something will happen and would yank everyone back to reality. The omegas here didn't get treated like they didn't matter. They wore good but old clothes, and they freely mingled with other members of the pack. They were submissive and respectful because there was an order to how things are done in this world. The maids addressed me as “Miss Aria” and the most surprising thing was that they bowed slightly when addressing or serving me. I was still patient out, waiting for the day when they would see that I was just an ordinary omega. In my former pack, I was the lowest of the lowest omegas. Even rogues were treated better than me. Being there and being here now in only three weeks was a very big adjustment for me. I still regarded my mate, who is apparently the Alpha here, with a deep-seated sense of
LUCAS' POV The moon goddess had blessed me with my mate exactly three weeks ago, and I can count on one hand how many times Aria and I have been alone without it ending in a crying mess for her. Four times. We've been alone four times. Last week dinner was the only time it didn't end in her crying. She came down dressed in a yellow sundress that covered her arms. I knew she only wore it to hide her bruises. She was badly battered, and her fragile skin didn't help matters. At the dinner, she struggled to make eye contact with me once. The rest of the dinner was spent in silence, with the occasional clang of us cutting into our steak. “Thank you,” she said at the end of the dinner, catching me off guard. “You don't have to thank me for anything, little mate!“ I'm probably addicted to the way she blushed prettily when I called her that. My mind briefly wondered if that blush spread to other parts of her body… “No,” she insisted. “You've been so patient with me, and I don't dese
ARIA'S POV This morning, Lucas asks to see me downstairs. As usual, the first thing that pops into my mind is that he wants to tell me off for my behavior at dinner last night. When I told him I didn't have a favorite food, he stared at me like I had suddenly grown two heads. He doesn't say anything after that. Not that we ever talk. We sit in a companionable silence that isn't awkward at all. Maybe he has finally seen the real pathetic me underneath all that silence I've been hiding. I am stunned by how cruel I feel. Alpha Lucas has been nothing but kind to me ever since I got here. He hasn't for once raised his hand or voice at me or anyone so far. If there's anyone that deserves the benefit of doubt, it's Alpha Lucas. I try to keep my nerves under control as I climb down the stairs quietly. I see him immediately. He's the type of person you would spot easily in a crowd. His physique is impressive and his energy is domineering. He makes everyone feel smaller compared to him.
ARIA'S POVWhen I woke up this morning, the first thing that came into my head was if Brielle would cancel out on me. If she does, I know a small part of me will break because I really like her. I don't know if she would have been friends with me if Lucas hadn't introduced us. I try not to overthink it. I was getting really antsy when morning broke properly. Would she finally understand that I wasn't worth her time? I mean, she did admit that she has a bunch of friends. What if one of her important friends decides that they want to go out with her instead?I went down for breakfast in a gloomy mood. To my surprise, I found Alpha Lucas and Beta Cole in there. Somehow, I didn't think they ate breakfast. The thought made me giggle out loud, and they turned to look at me in confusion.“What's so funny, little mate?“ Lucas raises a brow, his soup spoon suspended in midair. That was even enough to send me into another giggling fit.“Nothing,” I giggle, turning back to my food.“You hurt me
LUCAS'S POVBringing Brielle around Aria is a blessing. I'm glad I gave into Cole's suggestion. Having another mated female around would certainly make her lower her guard. Sometimes, though, I think it's a curse because they both go on shopping sprees, which could take up her whole day.I'm not afraid of them spending money at all. I have enough to last a lifetime. What I'm not okay with is not having her presence near me the whole day.I can't complain because I don't want her to think it's not okay to spend my money. Aria has to be spoken to gently.“Something in her has been conditioned to always think that she's doing something wrong.“ Cole had said once after a very awkward dinner. Aria can't stand eating snails, but she didn't say anything because she doesn't want the maid to yell at her. I vowed to myself that no one would even look at her the wrong way until she becomes more confident in herself. After Brielle took her on her first shopping trip and she came back in a beautif
ARIA'S POV There's a significant shift in the air between us the next day at breakfast. Running with his wolf has unlocked something in me. Something in me wants to live. I want to stay alive, thrive, and survive. Most importantly, I want to do it all by Lucas' side. I find myself unable to tear my eyes away from him as he cuts his food. I never noticed his muscles were so prominent. Yesterday, he stepped behind a tree to get dressed, and I turned my back to him.My curiosity had gotten the best of me, and I told myself that I would take just a tiny peek. I was rewarded with the sight of his muscles rippling as he tugged on the short he had brought along with him. I should have kept my word of only looking for a second because he turned and we locked eyes. I had been so embarrassed that I was unable to say anything until we got back to the packhouse. Even then, I had run straight into my room and didn't come out. This morning, I had debated whether I could get away with not coming d
ARIA'S POVThe dinner has to be perfect. Nothing must go wrong. "You keep stressing about it, baby." Lucas rasped from the bed. I guess my pacing must have woken him up. I don't know why I've been so snappy and irritable all day. I'm not one to snap at maids, but how hard is it to set the chairs at the right side? How hard is it to note down the number of chairs needed? It's very frustrating. "I'm not stressed. I just want everything to be perfect.""And it's going to be, baby. Come here to get some sleep so I can sleep. I have several important things to do.""What you're saying is this dinner isn't important?" The anger in me was rising by the minute. "You know, I've seen the way you've been nonchalant about this, and I get it, you're not the one bringing two sides of your lives together.""Whoa, whoa, I didn't mean it that way, baby." His gentle words made me burst into tears. "Come here, sweetheart." He pulled me under the covers, and I snuggled up to his warmth, which made me w
THIRD PERSON'S POV "Through her necklace?" Alpha Lucas wasn't sure if he was hearing correctly. He tightened his hold on his wife. He had first known that some people who could possibly be her parents were looking for her through Oliver. That was all he had heard before he told his people to go check them out. He just wanted to make sure they were not some weirdos or anything that could pose a threat to her at all. They had turned out to be real. This was the first time he was seeing them too, and he thought they were solid so far, but this necklace talk was bothering him. "How I found her was through a silent auction that was being held." Augustine spoke up. "It was a necklace I had when I was younger. It's a stone yin and yang necklace, see?" He showed them the one on his neck and produced a similar one in black while his was white. "Of course, it could be a similar one, but there was an old picture of us wearing it, so I took it to Mum for confirmation.""I knew it was hers the
ARIA'S POV The first thing that came to my mind was to hug the man in front of me. I don't know if I was in an alternative universe or something. I managed to recover my composure to raise an inquiring gaze."Luna Aria?" He said. His voice was deep and calm. Like hot cocoa in freezing winter. He spoke my name again and snapped me out of my reverie. The sound of my name coming from him felt wrong for some reason I couldn't fathom. There was a pull from him to me. I shook my head to get rid of the thought, and I realized that I had been staring at him, which was very rude of me. "You're talking to her." I said calmly enough to hide the tremors in my voice. I could certainly be an actress. He bowed lightly and introduced himself. "My name is Augustine, and these are my parents." Huh. Why can't I stop staring at him? There was something about him, and it wasn't even because of our resemblance. I hope I wasn't the only one that saw it."Can I come in?" He stared back at me with a quiet
THIRD PERSON'S POV What happened next was a blur. Zach could barely breathe with the bullet firmly lodged in his side. His life was flashing before his eyes, and he knew he had only a few minutes left to live. The blood had already seeped to reach his head. He could hear someone screaming, but it was distant. He knew he had to say something. Thankfully, Todd had come nearer to examine his beta. He didn't even know how to feel about the last two minutes. "Zoe was a spy. He was trying to help him take over the pack. He wanted to...""Stop talking, Zach. I'm going to get you help." Todd said and he meant it. There was no way he was letting him die. Todd bent over him and pressed firmly over his wound, but it was useless. He had bled out too much. "I'm not greedy, Alpha." Those were the last words he whispered before he gave up the ghost. Alpha Todd didn't have time to mourn too much because the cry of his youngest and favorite child rang out clearly. He looked up to find Augustina in
THIRD PERSON'S POV "I'm still a little bit skeptical about this Alpha's mental health." Alpha, Todd said to Zach. They both stood in front of the new glamorous pack house, waiting for the guest to arrive."It sounds insane in theory. You have seen the numbers, they're insane too, but we're both going to make a lot of money off it in the long run.""Yeah. I wouldn't have believed it if everything hadn't checked out. I guess we have a little bit of competition now.""What do you mean, Alpha?" "I sent out a messenger to slyly check on that pack yesterday to see if there's really a well and everything. He came back yesterday, and everything checks out. They do have a well, so yes, we have competition.""Huh. I didn't know you were sending anyone." Zach tried to keep his voice level so he didn't sound suspicious. "Yes, I didn't want to burden you any more than I should. I hope you find a way to resolve your wife's situation."He blanked for a moment before he remembered he was supposed
THIRD PERSON'S POV The next time Zach woke up, he was tied to a chair, and not one muscle in his body was working."Welcome. I was beginning to think you wouldn't join the party on time.""We had a deal." Zach managed to whisper. "You said I could trust you.""I didn't say anything like that, boy. It's not my fault you're so naive.""What do you want with me?""Oh. You're going to find out in a minute." Bart stood up from his chair and rounded his desk. "There's no silver, is there?""Isn't that obvious?" Alpha Bart laughed as if there was anything remotely funny about the whole situation. He cursed his own st*pidity. How could he believe something that st*pid? He would kick himself if he could move. "Of course, there's no silver.""I still don't know what you plan to achieve by holding me hostage here.""Plenty, boy. You know, when I first sent out that proposal, I told Gary here that there was no way we would get any response. You know what John told me?"A man snorted behind him,
THIRD PERSON'S POV Zach knew the plan was too good to be true, but he still couldn't help but pursue it. He knew he should trash the document and forget he ever saw it, but he had already made all the mental calculations in his head. They would make millions of dollars if it were true."Snap out of it, Zach. You know it can't be real." He kept telling himself but he couldn't help but open the document over and over again. He read the document over and over again until he could recite most of it by heart."This is crazy," he said to himself as he sat down to make a rough estimate and calculations. He took into account the manpower that they would need and how long it would take to have it running. By his rough calculations, the factory would be up and running in eighteen months, at most twenty-four months, and they wouldn't even have to spend one penny. That would also mean employment for the pack members. A second factory would mean more money for the pack. Maybe they could finally
THIRD PERSON'S POV Zach was aware of how much influence he held in the pack. There was nothing that went on in the pack that he didn't know. More importantly than all this, he was the Alpha's most trusted man and his right hand. He was in a delicate situation because he knew how deeply paranoid his Alpha was. If he ever got a whiff that he was plotting something behind him that might pose a threat to him or his children, he wouldn't even think twice before killing him.Not that he would ever betray the Alpha, he would chop off his own hand before he hurt the Alpha and his family. Zach was always careful of the deals he brought to the Alpha's attention. He would vet it about a million times before he brought it to the Alpha's attention. As usual, when another pack wanted to make a deal with the pack, they would have to go through him. Just last week, they had spoken about how they could move the pack forward. He had even been surprised that the Alpha was talking about new developments
THIRD PERSON'S POV Sixteen years ago, the lives of Alpha and Luna of the North pack changed. The North pack was the largest pack in the North, and there was only one reason for it. The North pack was the only pack in the North. They didn't start out that way. In fact, they used to be one of the smallest packs out of the ten packs that were in the North back then. Their name used to be The Bright Moon Pack. The Bright pack kept to themselves and managed their resources well. The Bright Moon pack was the only pack with high-level technology, and most importantly, their pack had a high concentration of silver. Silver trading was a major source of income in the werewolf world. Alpha Todd was wise, and he knew that this resource could become a source of misery for his pack. He knew how power-drunk people could be. Alpha Todd had to kill his own friend, his Beta, when he found out he was plotting against him. His friend's reason was that he was not monetizing their resources well. Alpha
