Third Person POV

“Mate?“ she questioned her sanity. Could it really be that simple? Was the moon goddess playing a joke on me? Hadn't I suffered enough? More so, the man looked terrifying. Whatever had I done to the moon goddess? All these emotions went through her head, but she didn't dare to say anything.

“Everyone, get out!“ The man yelled, and she whimpered lowly in her throat. She couldn't let him hear her for fear that would warrant a whipping. She thought he wanted to be alone with her to punish her, but the Alpha couldn't bear the thought of any other man perceiving her sweet scent.

The Beta gave his Alpha a sideways glance, but he obeyed his orders anyway. He and the other men left the area. He didn't take his eyes off her for a moment. Not once. He was not even blinking while she was looking everywhere other than at him. He looked terrifying. The way he stood there blocking the light couldn't even let her see his features clearly because he was backing the light and his broad chest blocked her view.

“MATE!“ His wolf howled painfully in his head, but he decided to tune it out. The girl was obviously terrified, but he was excited.

“Couldn't she see that we were in danger for a second time?“ Aria chided her wolf softly.

“Look up!“ he commanded, snapping me out of my reverie. She did as he asked fearfully. She was shivering so much. Her brain reasoned that if they were going to harm her, they would have done that already, but my body didn't get that message with how much I was shivering.

He slowly reached out to touch her exposed skin, and it felt like he had been ignited, a delicious feeling pulsed through him, which only made him more protective.

She knew she was supposed to be scared of this man, but the sweet feeling that just went through her at one touch from him. “He could hurt me even more than Alpha Kane because I was in his territory. He could even kill me if he wanted to.“ She quickly thought to herself and instantly wriggled away from him.

He looked pissed off for that action. She was sure he was going to have her whipped now.

“Why are you shying away from me, little mate?“ He questioned softly in spite of the anger he was feeling. She was not going to be fooled by his softness. She had once heard that the softest-looking things sting more. This was one of those examples.

Her eyes widened when he called her mate. Did he also feel the connection she just felt? She wasn't alone in this, right? Was it possible to have a one-sided mate?“

“We… we're mates?“ She said softly, not wanting to arouse his anger. Too soft that he never wanted anyone else to hear her voice.

“Yes, little mate. I'm your soulmate.“ She wrapped her arms around herself. Was this a dream? She even pinched myself all to no avail.

“Wow.“ She managed to whisper.

“Aren't you excited?“ He asked. Does she have someone else she was hoping to get mated to? I hoped to the goddess that she was just shocked. Not repulsed.

“I am.“ She sure doesn't look it. Maybe she was just confused. To be fair, she was running from something or someone. Finding a mate would be the last thing on her mind.

“Shocked. I don't think it's possible.“ Does she think she doesn't deserve a mate? That wasn't possible. Even the cruelest men he had met all had mates.

“What's your name, little mate?“ He decided that he would call her that until she understood that they were bound together forever.

“Aria.“ She said softly. Everything about this woman was beautiful and sweet, he thought to himself.

“Hello, Aria. I'm Lucas. Alpha of the Moonlight Pack, and most importantly, I'm your mate.“ He squatted so he was face to face with her. He didn't think it was possible, but she even looked more terrified after his introduction.

“Please get away from me.“ She tried to put more distance between them, but she was already against the wall. The only way to get away from this man, who she was sure would break her into pieces, was through the door. She didn't have to be told that running through the man was a suicide mission. Even if he let her through, she wouldn't make three feet before she got caught by the several guards.

“Aria,” he said lowly and calmly, which was very much unlike him. “Please calm down. I'm not going to lay a hand on you.“

He meant it to assure her, but it had the opposite effect on the hysterical girl who had scrambled up in front of him. Of course, she didn't expect the Alpha to hurt her personally. He would have people tie her down and beat her while others watched. That was how her Alpha Kane would do it, so she didn't expect him to be any different.

“Please get away from me.“ She pleaded with tears streaming down her face. “Please let me go.“

“Let you go?“ He questioned in confusion. Why would his mate want him to leave her alone? He looked at her swollen ankles. She was clearly going through a lot of pain for daring to stand on those ankles. His heart clenched painfully at her pain. Ordinarily, a pain of this level wouldn't even faze him. He had once killed three men with two broken ankles, but somehow, the pain that coursed through him was as if he was being stabbed repeatedly with a silver stake.

“Please,” she was now hopping on one foot. “Don't hurt me.“

“You're my little mate, Aria.“ He loved how smoothly her name rolled off his lips. This woman would be the end of him, yet she wanted him to let her go.

"Please stay still so I can assess your injuries. I'm not going to hurt you.“ He promised. He wanted to go after whoever was responsible for his mate's injuries.

“I'm fine. There must be a mistake. I can't be your mate.“ She rushed out, hoping he would change his mind and set her free.

“Where would you even go?“ Was she going to go back to whoever had done this to her?

“Anywhere, please.“ She couldn't stop crying from the pain in her ankle and the pain this new Alpha was going to cause her.

The Alpha questioned if he was that repulsive that his mate was willing to go anywhere else out in the woods so she could be free of him. I didn't even do anything to her yet, she thought.

Deciding to stop her from hurting herself so much, he took a tentative step near her, but she screamed so loudly as if she were burning her.

“Aria, stop it. I just want to look at your ankles.“ He scooted down, but she made the mistake of walking backwards on her ankle. She couldn't take the pain anymore and collapsed in pain. Lucas quickly caught her before she reached the ground.

“Cole, get the car!“

ARIA'S POV I've been in the Moonlight Pack house for two weeks now. While everyone has been nothing but nice to me, I still can't help the feeling of deep distrust. The feeling like something will happen and would yank everyone back to reality. The omegas here didn't get treated like they didn't matter. They wore good but old clothes, and they freely mingled with other members of the pack. They were submissive and respectful because there was an order to how things are done in this world. The maids addressed me as “Miss Aria” and the most surprising thing was that they bowed slightly when addressing or serving me. I was still patient out, waiting for the day when they would see that I was just an ordinary omega. In my former pack, I was the lowest of the lowest omegas. Even rogues were treated better than me. Being there and being here now in only three weeks was a very big adjustment for me. I still regarded my mate, who is apparently the Alpha here, with a deep-seated sense of

LUCAS' POV The moon goddess had blessed me with my mate exactly three weeks ago, and I can count on one hand how many times Aria and I have been alone without it ending in a crying mess for her. Four times. We've been alone four times. Last week dinner was the only time it didn't end in her crying. She came down dressed in a yellow sundress that covered her arms. I knew she only wore it to hide her bruises. She was badly battered, and her fragile skin didn't help matters. At the dinner, she struggled to make eye contact with me once. The rest of the dinner was spent in silence, with the occasional clang of us cutting into our steak. “Thank you,” she said at the end of the dinner, catching me off guard. “You don't have to thank me for anything, little mate!“ I'm probably addicted to the way she blushed prettily when I called her that. My mind briefly wondered if that blush spread to other parts of her body… “No,” she insisted. “You've been so patient with me, and I don't dese

  • HER SECOND CHANCE MATE   CHAPTER EIGHT

ARIA'S POV This morning, Lucas asks to see me downstairs. As usual, the first thing that pops into my mind is that he wants to tell me off for my behavior at dinner last night. When I told him I didn't have a favorite food, he stared at me like I had suddenly grown two heads. He doesn't say anything after that. Not that we ever talk. We sit in a companionable silence that isn't awkward at all. Maybe he has finally seen the real pathetic me underneath all that silence I've been hiding. I am stunned by how cruel I feel. Alpha Lucas has been nothing but kind to me ever since I got here. He hasn't for once raised his hand or voice at me or anyone so far. If there's anyone that deserves the benefit of doubt, it's Alpha Lucas. I try to keep my nerves under control as I climb down the stairs quietly. I see him immediately. He's the type of person you would spot easily in a crowd. His physique is impressive and his energy is domineering. He makes everyone feel smaller compared to him.

  • HER SECOND CHANCE MATE   CHAPTER NINE

ARIA'S POVWhen I woke up this morning, the first thing that came into my head was if Brielle would cancel out on me. If she does, I know a small part of me will break because I really like her. I don't know if she would have been friends with me if Lucas hadn't introduced us. I try not to overthink it. I was getting really antsy when morning broke properly. Would she finally understand that I wasn't worth her time? I mean, she did admit that she has a bunch of friends. What if one of her important friends decides that they want to go out with her instead?I went down for breakfast in a gloomy mood. To my surprise, I found Alpha Lucas and Beta Cole in there. Somehow, I didn't think they ate breakfast. The thought made me giggle out loud, and they turned to look at me in confusion.“What's so funny, little mate?“ Lucas raises a brow, his soup spoon suspended in midair. That was even enough to send me into another giggling fit.“Nothing,” I giggle, turning back to my food.“You hurt me

LUCAS'S POVBringing Brielle around Aria is a blessing. I'm glad I gave into Cole's suggestion. Having another mated female around would certainly make her lower her guard. Sometimes, though, I think it's a curse because they both go on shopping sprees, which could take up her whole day.I'm not afraid of them spending money at all. I have enough to last a lifetime. What I'm not okay with is not having her presence near me the whole day.I can't complain because I don't want her to think it's not okay to spend my money. Aria has to be spoken to gently.“Something in her has been conditioned to always think that she's doing something wrong.“ Cole had said once after a very awkward dinner. Aria can't stand eating snails, but she didn't say anything because she doesn't want the maid to yell at her. I vowed to myself that no one would even look at her the wrong way until she becomes more confident in herself. After Brielle took her on her first shopping trip and she came back in a beautif

  • HER SECOND CHANCE MATE   CHAPTER ELEVEN

ARIA'S POV There's a significant shift in the air between us the next day at breakfast. Running with his wolf has unlocked something in me. Something in me wants to live. I want to stay alive, thrive, and survive. Most importantly, I want to do it all by Lucas' side. I find myself unable to tear my eyes away from him as he cuts his food. I never noticed his muscles were so prominent. Yesterday, he stepped behind a tree to get dressed, and I turned my back to him.My curiosity had gotten the best of me, and I told myself that I would take just a tiny peek. I was rewarded with the sight of his muscles rippling as he tugged on the short he had brought along with him. I should have kept my word of only looking for a second because he turned and we locked eyes. I had been so embarrassed that I was unable to say anything until we got back to the packhouse. Even then, I had run straight into my room and didn't come out. This morning, I had debated whether I could get away with not coming d

  • HER SECOND CHANCE MATE   CHAPTER TWELVE

ARIA'S POV I have now been in the pack for almost three months. Two months since we had our first date. That first date still makes me sigh with delight every time I remember it.We first went to the movies, where we watched “Titanic”. It was a pretty sad movie, but my badass decided that he was too important to cry over a silly movie, at least that's how he described it.“It happened in real life.“ I had argued as he used a corner of his jacket to wipe my tears.“Of course it did, baby. I'm just not sure if it was that sad. He did the right thing by giving up the door, I agree, but they did have to make him look like a hero for something he's supposed to do.““Would you do that for me?“ I had meant it for the question to be teasing, but I hadn't anticipated how quickly he turned serious.“Aria,” he gazed into my eyes, and I found myself unable to look away. “There's no question in if I would die for you or not. I would do it without a second thought. You own my life. Ever since I la

LUCAS' POV Leaving Aria in her heat was making me feral. It must be very painful for her as it was her first time. The first day, I had been barely unable to resist her, but I regained my senses in the last minute. Goddess, that had to be the hardest thing I've done in my entire life. All I want to do is give her relief, but I know she's not ready. This is only her first time after all. What if she regrets it after she snaps out it? She's only going to end up hating me for taking advantage of her. “Why aren't you with her?“ Cole had asked. I know the question only came through him. It was Brielle that truly wanted to know. "It's her first time,” I told him simply. “I should have spoken to her about it, but I didn't realize that she doesn't know anything about it.““I understand. She's still going to be angry when she snaps out of it. Insecure, mostly.““I'm going to explain to her when she wakes up. ARIA'S POVThe dinner has to be perfect. Nothing must go wrong. "You keep stressing about it, baby." Lucas rasped from the bed. I guess my pacing must have woken him up. I don't know why I've been so snappy and irritable all day. I'm not one to snap at maids, but how hard is it to set the chairs at the right side? How hard is it to note down the number of chairs needed? It's very frustrating. "I'm not stressed. I just want everything to be perfect.""And it's going to be, baby. Come here to get some sleep so I can sleep. I have several important things to do.""What you're saying is this dinner isn't important?" The anger in me was rising by the minute. "You know, I've seen the way you've been nonchalant about this, and I get it, you're not the one bringing two sides of your lives together.""Whoa, whoa, I didn't mean it that way, baby." His gentle words made me burst into tears. "Come here, sweetheart." He pulled me under the covers, and I snuggled up to his warmth, which made me w

  • HER SECOND CHANCE MATE   CHAPTER ONE-HUNDRED-ONE

THIRD PERSON'S POV "Through her necklace?" Alpha Lucas wasn't sure if he was hearing correctly. He tightened his hold on his wife. He had first known that some people who could possibly be her parents were looking for her through Oliver. That was all he had heard before he told his people to go check them out. He just wanted to make sure they were not some weirdos or anything that could pose a threat to her at all. They had turned out to be real. This was the first time he was seeing them too, and he thought they were solid so far, but this necklace talk was bothering him. "How I found her was through a silent auction that was being held." Augustine spoke up. "It was a necklace I had when I was younger. It's a stone yin and yang necklace, see?" He showed them the one on his neck and produced a similar one in black while his was white. "Of course, it could be a similar one, but there was an old picture of us wearing it, so I took it to Mum for confirmation.""I knew it was hers the

ARIA'S POV The first thing that came to my mind was to hug the man in front of me. I don't know if I was in an alternative universe or something. I managed to recover my composure to raise an inquiring gaze."Luna Aria?" He said. His voice was deep and calm. Like hot cocoa in freezing winter. He spoke my name again and snapped me out of my reverie. The sound of my name coming from him felt wrong for some reason I couldn't fathom. There was a pull from him to me. I shook my head to get rid of the thought, and I realized that I had been staring at him, which was very rude of me. "You're talking to her." I said calmly enough to hide the tremors in my voice. I could certainly be an actress. He bowed lightly and introduced himself. "My name is Augustine, and these are my parents." Huh. Why can't I stop staring at him? There was something about him, and it wasn't even because of our resemblance. I hope I wasn't the only one that saw it."Can I come in?" He stared back at me with a quiet

THIRD PERSON'S POV What happened next was a blur. Zach could barely breathe with the bullet firmly lodged in his side. His life was flashing before his eyes, and he knew he had only a few minutes left to live. The blood had already seeped to reach his head. He could hear someone screaming, but it was distant. He knew he had to say something. Thankfully, Todd had come nearer to examine his beta. He didn't even know how to feel about the last two minutes. "Zoe was a spy. He was trying to help him take over the pack. He wanted to...""Stop talking, Zach. I'm going to get you help." Todd said and he meant it. There was no way he was letting him die. Todd bent over him and pressed firmly over his wound, but it was useless. He had bled out too much. "I'm not greedy, Alpha." Those were the last words he whispered before he gave up the ghost. Alpha Todd didn't have time to mourn too much because the cry of his youngest and favorite child rang out clearly. He looked up to find Augustina in

THIRD PERSON'S POV "I'm still a little bit skeptical about this Alpha's mental health." Alpha, Todd said to Zach. They both stood in front of the new glamorous pack house, waiting for the guest to arrive."It sounds insane in theory. You have seen the numbers, they're insane too, but we're both going to make a lot of money off it in the long run.""Yeah. I wouldn't have believed it if everything hadn't checked out. I guess we have a little bit of competition now.""What do you mean, Alpha?" "I sent out a messenger to slyly check on that pack yesterday to see if there's really a well and everything. He came back yesterday, and everything checks out. They do have a well, so yes, we have competition.""Huh. I didn't know you were sending anyone." Zach tried to keep his voice level so he didn't sound suspicious. "Yes, I didn't want to burden you any more than I should. I hope you find a way to resolve your wife's situation."He blanked for a moment before he remembered he was supposed

THIRD PERSON'S POV The next time Zach woke up, he was tied to a chair, and not one muscle in his body was working."Welcome. I was beginning to think you wouldn't join the party on time.""We had a deal." Zach managed to whisper. "You said I could trust you.""I didn't say anything like that, boy. It's not my fault you're so naive.""What do you want with me?""Oh. You're going to find out in a minute." Bart stood up from his chair and rounded his desk. "There's no silver, is there?""Isn't that obvious?" Alpha Bart laughed as if there was anything remotely funny about the whole situation. He cursed his own st*pidity. How could he believe something that st*pid? He would kick himself if he could move. "Of course, there's no silver.""I still don't know what you plan to achieve by holding me hostage here.""Plenty, boy. You know, when I first sent out that proposal, I told Gary here that there was no way we would get any response. You know what John told me?"A man snorted behind him,

THIRD PERSON'S POV Zach knew the plan was too good to be true, but he still couldn't help but pursue it. He knew he should trash the document and forget he ever saw it, but he had already made all the mental calculations in his head. They would make millions of dollars if it were true."Snap out of it, Zach. You know it can't be real." He kept telling himself but he couldn't help but open the document over and over again. He read the document over and over again until he could recite most of it by heart."This is crazy," he said to himself as he sat down to make a rough estimate and calculations. He took into account the manpower that they would need and how long it would take to have it running. By his rough calculations, the factory would be up and running in eighteen months, at most twenty-four months, and they wouldn't even have to spend one penny. That would also mean employment for the pack members. A second factory would mean more money for the pack. Maybe they could finally

  • HER SECOND CHANCE MATE   CHAPTER NINETY-FIVE

THIRD PERSON'S POV Zach was aware of how much influence he held in the pack. There was nothing that went on in the pack that he didn't know. More importantly than all this, he was the Alpha's most trusted man and his right hand. He was in a delicate situation because he knew how deeply paranoid his Alpha was. If he ever got a whiff that he was plotting something behind him that might pose a threat to him or his children, he wouldn't even think twice before killing him.Not that he would ever betray the Alpha, he would chop off his own hand before he hurt the Alpha and his family. Zach was always careful of the deals he brought to the Alpha's attention. He would vet it about a million times before he brought it to the Alpha's attention. As usual, when another pack wanted to make a deal with the pack, they would have to go through him. Just last week, they had spoken about how they could move the pack forward. He had even been surprised that the Alpha was talking about new developments

  • HER SECOND CHANCE MATE   CHAPTER NINETY-FOUR

THIRD PERSON'S POV Sixteen years ago, the lives of Alpha and Luna of the North pack changed. The North pack was the largest pack in the North, and there was only one reason for it. The North pack was the only pack in the North. They didn't start out that way. In fact, they used to be one of the smallest packs out of the ten packs that were in the North back then. Their name used to be The Bright Moon Pack. The Bright pack kept to themselves and managed their resources well. The Bright Moon pack was the only pack with high-level technology, and most importantly, their pack had a high concentration of silver. Silver trading was a major source of income in the werewolf world. Alpha Todd was wise, and he knew that this resource could become a source of misery for his pack. He knew how power-drunk people could be. Alpha Todd had to kill his own friend, his Beta, when he found out he was plotting against him. His friend's reason was that he was not monetizing their resources well. Alpha
