CHAPTER 040

The city hummed softly below, but the penthouse was quiet. I sat on the soft sofa, staring at the steam and the coffee that Jervis had sat down in front of me. The room should’ve been warm, but my chest was tight, every breath heavier than the last. I hadn’t even taken a sip. I was trembling too much in my hands.

Jervis’s voice cut through the silence, gentle enough. “You can let go here, Sarah,” he said. Across from me, he sat, elbows on his knees, green eyes steady on mine. “No judgment. Just talk.”

I looked away from his gaze and swallowed hard. ‘I whispered the words, so bad my tongue felt them. Rowan came back again.’ “Same games, same warnings. He keeps telling me he’s protecting me, but all he’s doing is trapping me.”

His jaw tightened, but Jervis didn’t speak right away. I looked at him, expecting him to wave it off, but he didn't.

“He’s not protecting you,” he whispered. “He’s controlling you. That’s what men like him do. They make you feel like you can’t breathe

CHAPTER 041The air in the mansion was thick, building to storm potential. The moment I walked into the living room, I felt it. It wasn’t peaceful stillness; it was suffocating. Sitting there with their legs crossed, a now all too familiar smirk curled on their lips. She said sweetly, but her voice was like a knife wrapped in silk: "Sarah, you’re back." I didn’t reply. I didn't want to give her the satisfaction of knowing how much she bothered me, so I just moved toward the staircase.“Heading out so soon?” she asked with more bite in her voice. “I thought you’d like to know what your dear husband said about you today.”That stopped me. Slowly I turned, my hands gripping the banister. “What are you talking about?”Lilith stood and was closer; her heels tapped against the polished floor. Her presence was sweet and suffocating, just like her perfume. She dragged out the words, “Oh, nothing.” “He just thinks you’ve been... distant.” Cold. He was not the loving wife he expected.”The ange

CHAPTER 042It was a quieter night than usual, but it wasn’t comforting. The silence was alive, beating against me. I sat at my desk, looking at the folders I’d taken out of the old box Jordan had sent me. Papers, photographs, and a yellow letter. I reached for it again, unfurling the delicate paper, and the trembling of my hands shook my arms. The words swam in front of my eyes, but one phrase burned itself into my memory: “They’re going to come for them unless we do something now." Who were they? Why did I sense that this was directly related to me? As I attempted to make connections, my chest became constricted. So far, all these clues have led me nowhere, but this letter... It felt like a key, but I didn't understand it yet.I didn’t hear him at first, but Rowan’s voice startled me from the doorway. “You’re still awake?”I folded the letter quickly and shoved it under the pile, not wanting to explain. I forced a calm tone and said, “Just working.”His presence entering the room,

CHAPTER 043I seemed to hear the house breathe, pressing down on me like a weight, as the night felt endless, and especially the silence. My mind was a storm of thoughts, and I sat in my room, staring out the window, looking to the city lights in the distance. Rowan never smiled. Lilith only ever smirked. And the walls of this house seemed a little bit closer every day, almost like the house itself was slowly crushing me to death. Everything felt wrong.I hadn’t spoken to Rowan all day, not even when I passed him in the hallway. I'd seen him whispering with Lilith earlier, her hand casually brushing his arm as if she belonged there. The memory twisted my stomach. She smiled, and her eyes had met mine over his shoulder. It was that wicked, triumphant smile, that bloody apology.I squeezed my fingers so hard that my nails dug into my palms. I couldn’t continue living like this. I wouldn’t. It had to be now, and something had to change.Out of my mind, I was pulled by the sound of footst

CHAPTER 044 Sarah’s Point of View Outside, the storm mirrored the chaos in my head. One drop after another cascaded down the windows, transforming the monotonous ticking of a clock into a looming calamity. The folder was spread open in front of me, and I sat at my desk. Each page presented a new puzzle piece that I wasn't sure I wanted to solve. Suddenly, the connection became clear. Rowan’s family was in too many documents—contracts, letters, photos—with my father’s name beside theirs. And the scariest part was how easy it all felt, like I had been played in some game by them. I noticed one paper. The photograph was old and faded at the edges. My father stood in it, next to a younger Steven Flint, Rowan’s father. They clasped hands in a firm handshake and were grinning. A laboratory, sleek and sterile, lay behind them with a sign that read *Flint Research Facility. A note was scrawled across the bottom of the photo in shaky handwriting: "For the future he and I both dreamt."

CHAPTER 045 Sarah’s Point of View The look he shot me, Rowan, and I had hit a boiling point. He hadn’t said much since the night I’d stormed out of his study, but his silence wasn’t a relief. It was worse. I could tell that whatever was coming wasn’t going to be good, and he was waiting, planning.I was in the library, pacing back and forth, holding the photo I’d taken from the folder. Steven Flint’s face stared back at me, next to my father’s frozen smile. I had never known about this. Why had no one ever told me? Behind me, the door creaked open, and I froze. I didn’t have to turn around to know it was Rowan. His presence was dense and oppressive, like the presence of a storm cloud. “Looking for something?” His voice was calm but sharp and made my skin prickle. I held up the photo and turned to face him. “Why didn’t you tell me about this?" He looked at the photo but didn’t get any closer. “Because it doesn’t matter." “Doesn’t matter?” My voice cracked. “This is my father.

CHAPTER 046 Sarah’s Point of View The whirlwind in my chest matched the storm outside. I spread the papers across the floor of my room as rain battered the windows. Contracts, letters, and half-ripped photos stared back at me, pieces of a puzzle I couldn’t yet solve. Rowan’s family was mentioned more times than I could count, and my father’s name was always attached to it in ways that didn’t make sense. I grabbed a contract stamped with the Flint Pharmaceuticals logo; the ink faded but was legible enough to make me shiver. Dated before I was born, it was a business deal between my father and Steven Flint. The implications weren’t vague, but the terms were. It wasn’t just business. This was personal. I jumped, clutching the papers to my chest, as the door creaked. His tie was loosened, his hair damp from the rain, and Rowan stood in the door. He looked tired, but his eyes were sharp, and they scanned the room, landing on the mess of documents around me. He said, his voice low,

CHAPTER 047 Sarah’s Point of View Even cozy in its disarray, Jervis’s apartment felt safe. The corner lamp cast soft yellow light over the wooden floors, casting long shadows. It should have been comforting, but this evening it only made me more restless. I looked out the rain-splattered window, cars blurring past below. Jervis spoke behind me, his voice low and careful. “You can’t keep doing this to yourself, Sarah." I turned, and his steady green eyes met mine. His arms crossed, he was leaning against the kitchen counter. The laxity of his demeanour could not conceal the potency in his expression, his shirt unbuttoned at the collar. “I don’t know what you mean,” I said, but we both knew I was lying. His footsteps soft but firm, Jervis took a step closer. You’re torturing yourself trying to untangle everything, Rowan, your family, all of it. At some point, you’ve got to decide what matters more: answers or peace." I ran a hand through my hair and laughed bitterly. “Peace? Af

CHAPTER 048 SARAH’S POINT OF VIEW My apartment was silent, and I felt like I was being slowly hanged. I clenched my hands into fists on the counter, taking shallow, quick breaths, trying to stop my thoughts racing. Rowan’s last words wouldn’t stop playing in my head. Sarah, you have no idea what’s coming. But you will.” It wasn’t a threat; it was worse. It was a promise. I looked at my phone on the table; its screen was dark and ominous. I wanted to call Jervis, wanting to hear his steady, reassuring voice tell me everything would be fine. The other part, the stronger part, knew I couldn’t rely on him for this. Whatever Rowan was planning, it was for me. I hesitated, my hand hovering over the phone. The sound of a loud knock at the door knocked me out of my thoughts, and I felt my heart swell up into my throat. Not again.“Sarah, open up!” I heard the familiar voice, and relief flooded me. My initial urge to help small things had expanded into a mission that far exceeded my expectations.“Sarah,” Blake interrupted my thoughts with his voice and brought me back to reality. By the entrance, Blake stood holding a tablet, wearing his usual serious expression. The burden of our experiences remained visible on his shoulders.“What is it?” I questioned while attempting to clear the fog from my mind. When Blake passed me the tablet, I noticed a Flint Pharmaceuticals report displayed on its screen. The company successfully avoided trouble at this time, but we had to implement measures to prevent similar events fr

The security systems hummed in my ears while every alarm within my mind screamed louder than the one I stood on the brink of activating. I was ready. My heart pounded in my chest, but I stood my ground. Not now. We were this close to completing all our initiated tasks, and yet we weren’t finished. Tonight marked the end for the secret society, or our end. Under no circumstances would I allow this to become my second option. The group maintained silence throughout the last several minutes. The silence surrounded us as though we were all mentally getting ready for the approaching storm we'd face.I murmured, “Is everyone clear on their tasks?” as my query carried more significance than just procedural formality. We had invested too much effort to let this mission fail now.My most trusted ally and the person who had always supported me gave me a strong affirmation wit

With the failsafe removed, our only option became a direct confrontation with our adversaries. I felt the weight in my chest knowing that we stood one final step away from destroying the secret society forever. As the team assembled, I heard the gentle buzz that filled the war room. Blake conducted discussions with his team members while managing connections with international law enforcement organizations. We assembled all available experts to ensure that no aspect of our operation was overlooked. It had to be perfect. The clock on the wall showed its ticking to me while the seconds slowly passed away, bringing us nearer to the upcoming battle. The plan was set. We aimed to dismantle the entire secret society structure by targeting all their networks and operations as well as their leaders. We planned to destroy everyone connected wit

CHAPTER 205 SARAH MOON'S POINT OF VIEW The clock was ticking. Each passing second felt as if I were receiving a blow to my chest. The system's low hum resonated through the chilly walls while the blinking red lights on the control panel quickened my heartbeats.Leo quietly said, "Time is running out," as he stood beside the door, gripping his gun tightly. My mind was spinning. Two options—both risky, both dangerous. Shutting down the failsafe would alert the secret society to our location. Or... I had the ability to find a different approach to get around the system, but this route would take additional time, leaving us vulnerable."Sarah... what are we doing?" Ethan asked, voice shaking. The condition of my team was clear as I saw their bruised bodies and their worn-out faces filled with fear. All of them had chosen to enter this nightmare alongside me without hesitation. They were my responsibility. Breathe, Sarah.I shut my eyes briefly to block out the throbbing pain in my hea

The dim light from streetlamps stretched only to the warehouse's boundary and threw jagged shadows across its deteriorating concrete walls."We don't have much time," Sarah whispered. A wave of her breath swept across my neck, which caused an involuntary shiver to travel down my spine."I know."My voice sounded steadier than I felt. The exact nature of the failsafe plan remained unknown, and it was ready to activate at any time. Failure to shut it down would allow the secret society to erase all evidence of their operation through smoke, ash, and bodies. The clock started ticking inside my mind.Get in. Find the server. The courtroom was packed with spectators while the trial's oppressive atmosphere loomed heavily above everyone like a storm cloud ready to release rain. The room felt claustrophobic while the tension made the air feel dense.I clung tightly to the table edge until my knuckles turned white. My heart pounded hard against my ribs. This was it. After months of preparation and many sleepless nights, we arrived at this crucial moment."All rise."Entering the courtroom, the judge presented an expression that was as hard as stone. Everyone stood. My breath caught in my throat. Sit down. Focus. The desk before me displayed various evidence, including documents and photographs alongside voice recordings. The documents displayed evidence of every action taken by the secret society. Their corruption. Their crimes. Every sick, twisted secret.I looked across the room to where they stood. They were there. Once we initiate the system deployment, we commit to an irreversible course of action.Sarah looked at me with a pointed yet unsure stare. Her lips parted, but no words came.
