Something felt different about this morning when Ariadne opened her eyes. For the first time, perhaps, she felt immense joy and peace as she gazed at Maximilian’s sleeping face beside her. Despite her body aching terribly, making it impossible to even get up and clean herself, she couldn’t help but smile.

Yesterday had been a passionate whirlwind. As her rationality returned, Ariadne found herself wondering: how had she managed to endure an entire day of such intensity, especially since it was her first time? Blushing, she covered her face with the blanket, embarrassed. “Am I always this shameless? How mortifying,” she muttered before glancing at Maximilian, only to find his eyes open.

“Did I wake you?” she asked, guilt creeping in at the thought of disturbing him. Maximilian shook his head in response.

“Are you tired?” he asked, brushing a stray strand of her hair aside.

“I’m exhausted. That was the wildest journey I’ve ever taken, but I can’t complain,” Ariadne replied.

Ariadne froze, staring into the face she had tried so hard to forget. Her father, Arman Harper, stood before her with the same audacity that had haunted her childhood. The familiar glint of opportunism shone in his eyes, overshadowed by no sign of remorse or shame.“Ari? Do you remember? I’m your father,” he said, his voice almost casual, as though nothing had happened.Ariadne’s hands trembled as her mind flooded with memories she had buried deep. The echo of slamming doors, her mother’s tear-streaked face, and the sting of being left to fend for herself all came rushing back. Her chest tightened, and her breathing grew shallow.“No,” she whispered under her breath, recoiling as Arman reached for her hand.“Come on, Ari,” Arman continued, his tone shifting to something almost pleading. “It’s been so long. You’ve done well for yourself, haven’t you? Married to a billionaire, living the high life. I always knew you’d make it big.”Ariadne’s lips parted, but no words came. Her body refu

The morning sunlight filtered through the villa’s large windows, bathing the room in a warm, golden glow. The serene view of the lush garden outside seemed at odds with the subtle tension hanging in the air. Ariadne sat at the dining table, her fingers tracing the edge of her coffee cup. Across the room, Maximilian was busy folding clothes into their luggage, his movements swift and precise, yet tinged with an urgency she couldn’t ignore.“Are you sure we need to leave tonight?” Ariadne asked softly, watching him. “I thought we’d stay a little longer.”Maximilian glanced at her briefly before returning to his task. “It’s better this way,” he said, his voice calm but clipped. “I’ve already arranged everything. We’ll return to New York tonight.”His tone made it clear he wasn’t open to discussion, but Ariadne pressed on, her concern growing. “You’ve been working so hard since yesterday, Max. Is everything okay?”He paused, his hands tightening slightly around the fabric he was folding.

Ariadne stood frozen, her breath caught in her throat as Arman’s words sank in. The room seemed to close in around her, the weight of his revelation pressing down like a heavy storm cloud.“What do you mean…?” she managed to whisper, her voice trembling. “What happened to him?”Arman leaned back against the decrepit wall, his audacious demeanor as shameless as ever. “Oh, Ari,” he began, feigning sympathy. “You really don’t know, do you? You were the only one who didn’t. Jaxon—your precious, perfect brother—had a severe lung disease. The doctors gave him three months, maybe less, to live.”Ariadne staggered, the words hitting her like a thunderclap. Her chest tightened, and her legs threatened to give out beneath her. “No…” she murmured, shaking her head as if denying the truth would make it disappear. But Arman wasn’t done. He smirked, his tone dripping with mockery. “And in those three months, do you know what Jax did? He ran himself ragged trying to find a way to give you a future.

Ariadne woke to the soft rustle of wind against sheer curtains. The room around her was unfamiliar—an understated yet luxurious space, with minimalist furnishings in muted tones of cream and slate. For a moment, she lay still, disoriented, her body heavy from exhaustion. Then the memories came rushing back: the rain, Jaxon’s grave, her collapse. She shot upright, her heart pounding. A sharp tug at her arm made her wince.Panic flared in her chest. This wasn’t Maximilian’s place. Her intuition screamed caution. She yanked the IV out, grimacing at the sting. Blood beaded at the wound, but she ignored it, her mind racing with questions. Where was she? Who had brought her here? She slipped off the bed, her bare feet sinking into the plush rug. The room offered no clues—no personal touches, no photographs. Just clean lines and an overwhelming sense of sterility. She pushed open the door and stepped into a hallway bathed in soft natural light. The house was modern, its sleek design illumina

Ariadne woke the next morning feeling physically stronger. Her body no longer ached, though her mind remained tangled with the bitter truths of Jaxon’s sacrifice and Maximilian’s betrayal. The thought of seeing Maximilian again filled her with dread. She blamed him entirely for the pain she carried now.She pushed the thoughts aside and stepped downstairs, drawn by the sight of Taylor in the garden. He stood among the greenery, watering the plants with a calm, focused air. Ariadne hesitated for a moment, then walked over to him.“Good morning,” Taylor greeted her, glancing up with a warm smile.“Morning,” Ariadne replied, a bit awkward but sincere.Taylor set down the watering can and gave her a quick once-over. “How are you feeling?”Ariadne offered a small smile. “Much better. Thanks to your… uh, excellent nursing skills.”Taylor chuckled. “Don’t thank me yet. You almost bled out on my floor yesterday.”Ariadne winced but quickly changed the subject, motioning to the garden. “Do you

  • HEAVENLY PAIN MARRIAGE   45. Losing Focus

Maximilian sat in his New York office, the towering glass windows framing a city bustling with life—a stark contrast to the chaos raging within him. His usually impeccable suit hung loose on his frame, the crisp white shirt slightly wrinkled, and the dark circles under his eyes betrayed sleepless nights. It had been a week since Ariadne vanished, and despite mobilizing every resource at his disposal, there was no trace of her.“Any updates?” he demanded, his voice low but laced with tension.Andymon stood across from him, hesitant to speak. “No, sir. We’ve checked every lead—hospitals, shelters, surveillance footage—but nothing so far. It’s like she just... disappeared.”Maximilian clenched his jaw, his grip tightening on the edge of his desk. “That’s not possible. Keep looking. Double the teams if you have to. I want her found.”“Yes, sir.” Andymon nodded and quickly exited the room, leaving Maximilian alone with his thoughts. He leaned back in his chair, exhaling sharply. The weight

Two weeks had passed since Ariadne had stumbled into Taylor’s life, and in that time, a strange sort of peace had settled over her. She still felt the sharp pangs of betrayal when thoughts of Maximilian crossed her mind, but Taylor’s presence had a way of soothing the ache. His kindness and effortless charm created a cocoon where her pain seemed to fade, at least temporarily.Today, as the afternoon sun cast its warm glow over Taylor’s expansive garden, Ariadne found herself smiling despite everything.“Come on, Ariadne,” Taylor called from the garden, his voice light with amusement. He stood near a cluster of newly dug plots, a trowel in one hand and a box of vibrant flowers in the other. “You’re not going to let me do all the work, are you?”Ariadne rolled her eyes but couldn’t suppress a grin as she joined him. “I don’t even know why we’re doing this,” she said, glancing at the box of flowers. “I thought you were all about greens.”Taylor tilted his head, his expression thoughtful.

Taylor guided Ariadne into the kitchen, his hand lightly resting on her back as she wiped the remnants of tears from her cheeks. He gestured for her to sit on the counter, pulling a stool closer for himself.“Stay here,” he said gently, retrieving a glass and filling it with water. Handing it to her, he leaned back against the counter, his eyes never leaving her. “Drink. It’ll help.”Ariadne sipped the water, the coolness grounding her after her emotional outburst. She placed the glass down, letting out a long sigh as she looked up at Taylor. “I’m sorry,” she said quietly. “For crying like that... I didn’t mean to make things awkward.”Taylor shook his head, a soft smile playing on his lips. “Don’t apologize, Ariadne. You’re allowed to feel what you’re feeling. If you need to cry, scream, laugh—whatever it is—you can do that here. I’ll always be here to listen.”His sincerity struck her. Ariadne felt like a wave of heat was spreading from the tips of her toes to the top of her head. This made her feel strange, and she immediately turned her face away when she felt that making eye contact with Maximilian any longer would only intensify the sensation. While Ariadne was shy, Maximilian just smiled and got up from his seat to grab his phone."Wh-where are you going?" Ariadne asked, intercepting Maximilian with a gentle tug on the corner of his shirt before he could take a step."I'm just going to grab my phone, Ariadne," he said, and immediately Ariadne let go of her grip, feeling more embarrassed as she thought Maximilian must be considering her a spoiled woman at that moment.Maximilian smiled again at Ariadne’s cute reaction before walking to the other side of the bed to grab his phone from the nightstand."I need to call a doctor to check on you again. I’m not going to use Andymon’s services anymore after he made me doubt his intellectual abilities as a doctor."Ariad

Maximilian returned to his room immediately after escorting Mr. Milton. He sighed repeatedly, still feeling the tension from the questions Mr. Milton had asked him earlier. It was about Mr. Milton asking if Ariadne's claim that Gideon was behind all the chaos was true. This was one of the things Maximilian had not wanted to reveal to his father immediately after he 'came to his senses'. There were still some things that were perhaps not fully understood, including whether his father was ready to hear the truth, which would undoubtedly shock him.Maximilian had felt confused, because he had no idea that Ariadne had ever told Mr. Milton directly that Gideon was the true villain. This almost led Maximilian to be suspected if he had failed to answer his father's question.Of course, Maximilian didn't tell the truth. He just acted naive and confused, then distracted his father by mentioning his father's heavy workload. Inevitably, Mr. Milton was reminded of his work and had to leave before

A long and exhausting day left Ariadne completely worn out, both physically and emotionally. After the trial, Ariadne slept for a long time. Today marked five days since Ariadne’s health worsened, forcing her to rest extensively to recover. During this time, Maximilian remained by her side, waiting for her to open her eyes.“How is she?” Maximilian asked just after Andymon finished checking on Ariadne.“Better than yesterday, no more fever,” Andymon replied, preparing to leave.“So when will she wake up?”“I don’t know.”Maximilian furrowed his brow. “How can you not know?” he protested, “You’re a doctor!”“I’m a doctor, not a fortune-teller who can predict when she’ll wake up. The important thing is Ariadne is doing better; when she wakes up is a later issue. She’ll wake up, I’m sure of it.”Maximilian pouted. Since the first day he asked when Ariadne would open her eyes, Andymon’s answer had always been the same. “You’re a doctor and you can’t even answer when your patient will wake

The glare of the cameras feels tangible, as if capturing every second of Ariadne's walk toward the abyss of her downfall.Ariadne doesn't care. Since returning from visiting Maximilian earlier, she had already decided to ignore everything, even if today was the day she would be sentenced for a crime she never committed. In the open trial, several people had arrived, including Arman and Adelaide. But they didn’t come solely because their family was involved in the issue; they came to mock Ariadne and wait for the moment she would truly be gone from their lives. For a moment, Ariadne smiled bitterly at the thought. It turned out that all along, her family’s desire to erase her was that great. Ariadne had never realized this and always assumed it was just hatred because of her background, but it turned out to be much more than that. The trial proceeded calmly and

Ariadne wiped away her tears, until they dried for a moment. She smiled again, still holding Maximilian's hand; she spoke more casually as if this were something she regularly did with him in their once-normal married life, like people outside of their world."After I leave, Adelaide will come to your house as your real wife. Finally, something that should have happened will happen... it seems like you and Adelaide are truly destined to be together," Ariadne said; her words hurt both herself and Maximilian, who listened in silence. "I'm sure you'll have a better life with her, because Adelaide loves you so much—she's always loved you. She always talked about you with a glowing face, her happiness overflowing to the point where she forgot who she was talking to—because even if there was an earthquake, Adelaide wouldn't want to speak to me softly.
