Zayden groaned out of sheer frustration when the pounding on the door of his room refused to cease.
What the fuck was going on outside? He grunted to his wolf, who only rolled his sleepy golden eyes before letting them fall shut and sleep.
Zayden didn’t like the way his wolf treated him these days. Nothing pleased him. Nothing seemed to fetch his attention unless they were on a hunt or sprinting wildly through the woods, panting and wheezing out of breath. Other times, his wolf either snorted or ignored the man completely. As for now, his wolf seemed to be in ignoring mode, and that frustrated the male like anything.
Shaking his head, Zayden got to his feet and stretched his broad arms out. The mirror across the room reflected a fine specimen of a man: tall height, bulky shoulders, and firm muscles in all the right places. Among all the men in the pack, Alphas were known to be much more endowed and powerful. They were the epitome of strength, dominance, and command. Not to forget, they were ferociously good-looking. So much so that the supply of women to their beds never grew to a halt. Women practically dropped their panties at their sight. Jealous men blamed it on their supernatural genes, but that was hardly the truth.
OK. Maybe there was some truth. But it would be unfair to accuse the Alphas themselves. It wasn’t like they asked for it. Right?
When someone bashed the door again, Zayden almost lost it. An angry frown cut across his handsome features while those long fingers buckled into fists. His shoulders grew broader to show someone their rightful place as he charged for the door.
A lungful of breath later, he snapped the knob so hard it broke and bounced on the floor before rolling to some pathetic corner. Zayden barely even spared a glance before he bucked the door open and growled. “What?”
Zayden’s eyes were glowing with untamed fury when his gaze dropped to the girl who barely reached his chest. He half-expected Viraj, his beta, to be on the other side of the door, dropping by to keep him in the loop of the search for a healer.
Zayden was the Alpha of the Bloodmooon pack. He earned the position after the older Alpha declared his retirement. Although he had to fight his way up, especially with all the contenders lined up with their eyes on the throne, including the idiotic sons of the previous Alpha, to get where he was today. It was a bloody day; he remembered with a proud grin. But so much worth it.
After defeating three men in a single day, he sure made a name for himself. A name that women fantasized about squealing when he took them to his bed. But Zayden was anything but a player. He liked sex. Who in their right mind would not, right? However, it was different for him. He liked to fuck the girls he wouldn’t have to see again. The drama to handle their clingy whining was too much for him. Being the Alpha of the pack, who seemed to be constantly at war with their neighboring masses, he surely had more than enough on his plate to care about anything else.
However, that was the least of his concerns.
For now, all he could focus on was the dark-haired girl who stood in front of him. An endearing frown tugged on her beautiful plump lips, glaring up at him as if he stole her virginity.
Zayden’s frown scattered the second her intriguing scent hit his nostrils and pressed down on his chest. Soft but cloying. It felt like a claw made of sweet nails, squeezing his chest tightly in its fist, forcing it to burn in the lack of enough oxygen.
It was a feeling that threatened to break and sew his heart altogether.
It was a feeling that made his wolf not only perk his ears up but also gaze as if something interesting caught his eye.
“Are you deaf?” The girl growled, snapping her fingers in front of his generous face.
It was only then that Zayden realized the girl was talking to him. Wait, what did she say? He didn’t hear shit.
Shit!
He zoned out. Not good. Not good at all.
Leaning against the frame of the door, arms crossed over his sturdy chest, he muffled a yawn and blinked against the exhaustion.
“What do you want?”
Zayden didn’t think the girl even processed his question before she snapped again. “Nina!”
“Who?” Zayden cocked an eyebrow.
Who the hell was Nina?
Oh wait, maybe that’s her name. Made sense.
“Whatever you say.” He rolled his eyes, trying not to melt into her scent that had started to wrap him up in its warm cocoon. “What do you want, Nina? Are you room service?”
“What?” The girl looked taken aback for a second or two and Zayden took this opportunity to really look at the girl.
Donned in a pair of denim shorts and a plain white round-neck t-shirt, she definitely had nothing to do with the room service. Even her hair, so dark and so thick, was bunched up in a loose bun, letting only a few wild strings of hair droop and frame her pretty face. Her eyes were a touch darker than brown. Almost black, but not completely. And they seemed to shimmer against the lights of the empty hallway outside his room. But what really had his chest tightened with knots had to be her lips. A perfect shape that had his mouth run dry, and he craved a taste of hers to bring moisture to his own. His wolf seemed to like the idea, purring in approval, and that only encouraged his erotic imagination.
She said something again, and he failed to hear that as well.
This zoning-out thing was really getting out of hand.
“Ugh-fine!” without so much as a warning, she shoved his chest with both her hands.
Zayden lurched backward, stunned for a second and curious on the other. Even though it was the surprise that made him back off and not her measly human strength, he found himself amused and riled up at the same time.
What did she think of herself?
Oddly enough, his wolf bared his teeth at him, growling and seething his glittering golden eyes as if preparing to bite him in the ass.
As the girl plodded inside, scanning the hotel room almost frantically, his wolf nudged him to move closer. He demanded her scent again. Almost on the verge of whining to beg for her attention. He wanted her eyes on him like anything. He wanted her small fingers to drift through his fur and make him the happiest wolf alive.
Zayden almost gave in to the tantrums of his wolf until the girl spun on her heels and fixed him with an annoyed look.
“Where is she?” she asked with a frown, kneeling on the floor and checking underneath the bed. Putting a view of her perfect, thick ass for him.
Zayden groaned, frustrated. His wolf panting and drooling after the girl. Honestly, who is this girl? He thought. And why was his wolf acting so weird in her presence? This was so unlike him. After giving him a terrible time for almost a month, now his wolf seemed eager for everything. Everything that included this girl, her fucking crazy scent, and those deep brown eyes.
Could it be possible that she was his mate? The thought made him stop dead in his tracks.
No, that was impossible. He shook off the thought. If she were his mate, he would have sniffed her from miles away. To even let that thought slide into his mind, he wanted to tear these walls apart.
But then again, there was something about the girl. Something was lifting the hair at the back of his neck, tugging at the loose strings of his heart, and tempting his wolf to pounce and lick her everywhere.
Perhaps Viraj was right. He truly needed to get laid.
Alright, he had enough of her weird acts. It was time he put his foot down.
“You know, if you were so desperate to get into my bed, you could have just asked,” he drawled, his wolf giving him a pat on the back for making her shift uneasily on her feet and for that sweet blush that crept up her neck and blossomed across her cheeks.
Fuck. His wolf sank nails into his flesh at the sight, making Zayden wince so hard that he almost cracked his jaw.
The girl, whose name he assumed to be Nina, scowled harder. “Sex!” she snapped.
Zayden cocked a brow. O-kay?
“That’s all you men think about, don’t you?” she accused, shaking her head as if she had had enough of men and their lustful ways. “You don’t care about anything else but yourself. All you want is a woman, sprawled wide in front of you, so you can gratify your inner monsters and boast among men about your absurd adventures,” she sighed. “You know what? No one cares about your adventures. No one gives a shit. And honestly, I don’t even know why I am even bothering myself with you. Just tell me where my sister is and I’ll be gone out of your hair.”
Zayden chewed the inside of his lip, rubbing his jaw and a little scruff that had grown. “What makes you think your sister is here?” he demanded, unsure why she was confident he had a girl underneath his bed. Who the fuck did she think he was? A weirdo? If he had to fuck someone, he would fuck them with the door wife open. Shame was the last thing that bothered him.
“Don’t be over-smart,” she threatened, lifting a finger at him. “I know she is here. Is she in the bathroom?”
“What?”
“Closet?”
“Are you serious?”
“Wait, I think I got it.” She mused, dropping her hand. “She is on the balcony, isn’t she?”
“Honestly, what stuff are you on?”
“Fine. I’ll see that for myself.”
As she headed over to the sliding glass door that led to a spacious balcony with couches and sofa chairs, Zayden grabbed her by the arm and pulled her to him. Their chests collided. She gasped. Before a deeper frown graced her face. Her brown eyes met his hazel ones, and that was all his wolf needed to drop his sanity and flaunt his tail. Excited.
“What are you doing?” she tried to wriggle out of his grasp. But the more she tried, the stronger his grip grew. “Let me go, you perv!”
Zayden couldn’t help but rumble out a laugh. “I’ve been nothing but a gentleman since you walked in,” he sneered, baring his white teeth and fighting the dizziness induced by her delicious scent. So strong now, it drew him to her. He leaned his head forward, thinking he only wished to intimidate her more. Though it was hard to ignore, the flesh of his palm practically seared against her fragile skin. He drew in a sharp breath. Watching her pretty face from this close had his lungs combust with something hot and sweet. She turned her head away to escape his proximity. But that turned out to be a mistake. On her part. Of course. Why? Because the small action exposed her neck to him and he couldn’t turn down the invitation. He fought the urge. He really did, but his wolf practically shoved his face into the crook of her neck and sucked in a deep breath.
“Mine!” His wolf growled after a few bold seconds, causing the girl to grow stiff in his arms. “All of you is mine.”
[A Few Hours Ago] Dhara’s brows furrowed deeply into her head as she read the text message from her sister again. “How can Nina be so stupid?” she muttered to herself, her gaze fixed on the bright screen of her phone. For years, Dhara had done everything in her power to shield her younger sister from the dangers of the world, but today, as she turned 18 and completely legal, Nina seemed determined to push all her boundaries at once. Despite being legally an adult, Dhara still felt an overwhelming responsibility to keep her sister safe, especially when Nina announced she wished to celebrate her birthday at a sky-high nightclub—a den for rich bastards and pervert generation. Dhara knew all too well what went on at those types of places—the scantily-clad women, the excessive drinking, and the lecherous men looking for a quick hookup. There was no way she was going to let her sister get caught up in that kind of environment. No way in hell! Although Dhara had never experienced anyt
“Let me go, you perv!” Dhara snapped at the man. The same man who answered the door. The man at the sight of whom a tight shiver curled down her spine. If only Dhara wasn’t blinded by so much rage, she would have noticed the only man standing in the room had the looks of a sexy sinner. His beautiful pair of hazel eyes brimmed with part boredom and part amusement. If the annoyance hadn’t obfuscated her brain, she would have realized how her heart couldn’t stop pounding against her chest when he pinched those thick eyebrows and tipped a corner of his lips up. God, that was so hot. Even her subconscious couldn’t help but drool. But that was all happening somewhere in the back of her mind, where her present reality seemed to suppress it all the way. Weird emotions churned in the pit of her stomach were being drowned by the nausea she felt while fretting about her sister. With her wrist in his skin-tight grip, he sneered. “I’ve been nothing but a gentleman since you walked in.” The
“Look, obviously, this was a massive misunderstanding. I was just looking for my sister. And now that she is here—safe and sound—let’s not make a big deal out of it.” After enduring the most embarrassing moment of her life, only Dhara knew the poise and courage it took to sit in front of the same man she had harassed not so long ago, as if her insides weren’t lit on fire. Having no clue what on earth got into her, she found it hard not to chew her lips out. All her life, Dhara had never felt this kind of surge and white electricity begging to be released. She had never felt this unexplainable attraction to anyone. Men had never been a priority in her life, not when she had a younger sister to take care of, not when their parents weren’t around to ease the weight of responsibilities off her shoulders, and not when the stress of next month’s rent and the food they needed on their table for healthy survival inhabited her mind. Her forehead and cheeks warmed with the awareness of his i
“Alright. Good. Try to get some sleep now. You’ve got a long day tomorrow. Oh, and do not open the door for anyone until it’s me. No. Not even for the milkman. I know you’re old enough, Nina. Just…just do what I say, please. OK? I don’t have the energy to fight you right now. Yeah. Fine. Good night. Bye.” Disconnecting the call, Dhara sighed deeply in her chest and allowed her head to fall against the back of the couch. She had never left Nina alone at home. And even though her little sister wasn’t actually all alone, her best friend Poppy had agreed to stay for the night. Dhara couldn’t force down the awful anxiety gnawing at the middle of her chest, making her troubled and nervous. “You know, I can still ask one of my men to keep a watch on your house. I promise they won’t engage until it’s absolutely necessary.” Dhara couldn’t help but scoff at his words. “One of your men? You make it sound like you’re the don of some crime syndicate.” “What if I am?” She could hear the grin in
“That’s right, a witch!”“A what?”“A witch!”“What WHAT?”“Do you want me to spell it out for you?”“No, what I want is for you to make a little more sense.”“Ooh, she is feisty!” Jasmine chipped with a broad grin. “I love her already.”“You have no idea,” Zayden groaned out of pure frustration, forcing the alcohol down his throat and wincing when the bitterness boiled through his chest. He once again turned around to fix that dumb girl with a pointed gaze. “Look. Either you do as she says, or keep up the act, and I’ll drag that sweet ass myself. Don’t force my hands. The choice is yours.” He threatened.Zayden would be lying if he said the girl his wolf was going crazy for hadn’t gotten into his nerves in the last few hours. How could someone be so annoying? Fuck him, he didn’t see that coming. Since the moment she walked into his hotel suite, all he could think about was to bend her over that damn couch and fuck her senseless. And not only because she had a perfect ass that was cre
Jasmine quickly led the mystery girl—who had finally returned to her senses—over to the couch and made her sit. Jasmine’s drunkenness had taken a backseat it seemed. She appeared intrigued and amused. Something Zayden could only roll his eyes at. “I bet you thought I was some crazy voodoo lady about to sacrifice you to some deity,” Jasmine chuckled with humour in her voice, reaching for her purse and returning with a green stone in her hand. “Won’t you?” that was what the mystery girl asked, a frown tugged at the corner of her full lips. Zayden took his seat back at the minibar counter and pushed the empty glass to the side, resting his elbow against the flat surface and watching them with anxious curiosity buzzing throughout his bones. He would have laughed at her conclusion of being sacrificed if he hadn’t been a witness to such gore himself. Even though it didn’t happen so frequently anymore, he knew the witches who practised dark magic still made a living out of it. Of course,
“It shouldn’t have happened,” Jasmine thrust her long, manicured fingers through those ebony locks and tugged hard to get this prickly and icky feeling out of her system. She felt like she was drowning in a pool of thick, red blood and no matter how much she tried to get some air in her lungs, couldn’t find her way up. It was all too messed up. And the entire array of events she saw so vividly in her head was messing her up even more.“What the fuck does that even mean?” Zayden snarled, his entire face contorted so precariously enraged that it fired a shiver down her spine. And that was saying something. Because usually, she couldn’t be bothered to give a fuck about how much she drove him crazy. It was a part of her personality. She thrived on getting on people’s nerves.“It means that you’re a jackass and you need to care about the feelings of others,” she snapped, her head still spinning, her heart ricocheting underneath her chest. She couldn’t push the resentment and frustration bo
During the entire ride, Dhara couldn’t stop thinking about what Jasmine had said.“All your life you’ve tucked yourself away from the crowd, with a fear that you’ll put your faith in the hands of the wrong people and they wouldn’t think twice before crushing it underneath their feet. It’s a constant fear that you live in. But you never let it show.”Constant fear.Never let it show.It was all too personal for someone to know so much about her. It felt wrong. On so many levels. It was as if someone barged into her privacy and left her bare. No one had ever said something like that to her. No one ever read her like an open book. And the thought alone pushed her to the edge. Perhaps that was the sole reason she couldn’t stay a second longer in that god-forbidden place. She felt exposed.Vulnerable.As if someone had broken down the walls built around her heart and now there was no way to protect herself. However, there was also a part of her that wasn’t convinced enough. Perhaps what Ja
Dhara couldn’t sleep all night, but that was expected of her, considering the kind of week she had spent. God, she still couldn’t believe it. Now that she was back in her safe haven—her home—the realization of what had transpired in the last few days started to slam into her chest with a force that made her eyes go round with shock and her mouth drop open in disbelief.Fuck! Who could have thought, though? Who could have thought that creatures like werewolves and witches existed? That they lived among humans with no trace of suspicion at all. That the world was crammed with so much more than she or any normal person understood.Rising from the bed, Dhara quietly moved away and found herself standing in front of the dressing table. She saw herself wearing an extra-large t-shirt as a nightdress and noticed her dark hair piled up on top of her head, making her look even messier than she felt inside. But that was not what she was trying to look at. What she was trying to see was what made
Zayden glanced to his side and found Dhara lost in her thoughts. He knew she was lost because even though they had reached her apartment complex a few minutes ago, she hadn’t made a move. She kept staring out the window, her breathing steady, her body relaxed, but her mind? Her mind was at war with itself. He could tell. He could almost feel it in his bones. And dammit, he wished he could give her a bit of respite from all these overwhelming emotions and the conflict that she was clearly fighting with herself. But if there was anything the Alpha male had learned from his past experience, it was that one had to face their demons alone. He could assure her, support her, and give her a shoulder to worry on for all he wanted, but the truth was that no one knew her better than she knew herself. If there was anyone who could help her right now, it was her own wisdom and her strength. No one else. Quietly, he sighed, running a hand through his dark hair. A part of his was glad and overjo
Dhara had run out of the room so fast, her head spun and her legs shook even long after she had shut herself in the room for almost an hour.It was just so weird. Not, not just weird. It was unbelievable. A meteor-shower kind of unbelievable. It just didn’t feel real. None of it did.Her chest rose and fell with untamed breathing while her eyes watered, panic settling deep into her bones. She didn’t know what to do, or how to handle this new piece of bizarre information. Was it even true? Everything that she had seen with her own two eyes. Or was it something cooked up by her own silly brain? It was so impossible to be sure. Or to believe in beings like him…Dhara shook her head and drew another rush of fresh air into her shocked lungs. She needed to get her head back on track; she needed to think straigh
Dhara was tired. So damn tired. If it weren’t for someone knocking on the door, she wasn’t sure what would have happened. Honestly, she was dreadfully shocked by her ability to cave in to this man’s lust. Or perhaps he was simply exemplifying the lust of her own. Why else could she not push him away? Why wouldn’t her heart jolt with a protest at his advancements? Why did she feel like she wanted him to touch her in ways no one ever did? Why did she want to surrender herself to his will? Those were the questions that bothered her to the bones. Day and night. Right and left. On and off. There was no end to it. No end at all. He was a conundrum she wasn’t able to figure out. Like a puzzle, the pieces of which were way too complicated for her simple brain to comprehend. All that time he was far, she felt like she could do it. That everything was normal and t
“WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO?” Dhara screamed, her voice breaking out of the room, making the wolves minding their business outside in the hallway wince hard enough to crack their jaws. Not that Zayden felt any different. Never had anyone ever talked to him like that. With such disrespect. He almost had the urge to teach this girl a lesson. But his wolf had been at his throat since the moment those monsters abducted her. They both had been restless. Scared shitless. How did she manage to make his wolf act like a whimpering dog was par his wits? He couldn’t even begin to explain how torturous those long hours were for him and his wolf when they held her captive and didn’t allow them to have even a glimpse of her until it was dawn and they were satisfied with the trade. He told himself that b
After traveling for three days and two nights, Selene made it to a small village on Snowdrop mountain, a heavenly town in the snowy mountains where the ceremony of the Moon shower was organized once every seven years. They considered the day to be auspicious; the moon was said to be brighter and bigger than ever. However, instead of settling in the town and getting a room for rent, Selene camped on the outskirts of the deep and dark forest that surrounded the village. She had the money—her father had given her enough to last her for a month—but she felt more at ease lingering close to nature instead of the bustling town where only werewolves were known to live.It might also be because of the fact that she was there to take part in the ceremony. The thought made her jittery and a little nauseous. She wasn’t scared of the judgments in people’s eyes
With her ear pressed against the door, Dhara was trying to hear the conversation taking place outside of the room she was locked in. Ever since that strange man led her to this place—God knows what it looked like or where it was situated—she had been blindfolded, cuffed, and trapped in a room alone. It smelled weird, too, as if the place hadn’t been used for a very long time and neither the windows had been opened, letting the warm rays of the sun and the fresh air in. Oddly, Dhara felt cold and uneasy, her skin prickling with weird sensations. It was only when the hushed noises of two people conversing reached her ears that she realized someone else was there too. Earlier to this, the room had been awfully lifeless. Dhara was propelled to wonder if she was chucked into some harrowing dungeon of sorts
“But how can this happen, Grandma? How can a girl be a healer?” Jasmine questioned, her features contorted in a deep frown, her hands clasped into fists as she peered at the translucent form of her late great-grandmother. “Isn’t it against nature? Isn’t it…cruel?”No. She did not understand this, and could not wrap her head around the twisted game the universe was playing. It was outrageous, really. There was a reason a female could not be a healer. Even though in the eyes of the gods and goddesses, a woman and a man held an equal place, there were several matters and obligations only a certain gender could carry out.“It is,” the old woman agreed, her quiet eyes staring into the vast space between the two of them. Her white hair was just as white as the glow of her appearance. “But we are only humans. Never forget that. How do we know what this scheme of nature is?”
Dhara blinked several times, but the sight in front of her remained the same. Zayden and Jules were staring at her as if she had grown two more heads over her neck. Well, what the hell?“It’s OK. There’s nothing to worry about,” Jules said after a while, waving a hand as if to dismiss the frown slowly deepening upon Dhara’s forehead. Her gaze shipped back to Zayden. He was standing near the door, not sure when he even got there, but even if she was curious, she held it back well and gave Jules a gentle nod instead.Turning back to face the table across from which Jules sat, Dhara peered down at her hands. A few minutes back when Jules asked all of them to hold each other hands and meditate, she had felt her palms growing hot as hell. As if someone had set them on fire. It did not hurt, though. No, not at all. In fact, the warmth was fairly calm, seeping out of all the pores of her body. But now that the warmth was gone and also any physical contact with either of them, strangely, she
