I barely slept that night; all I could think about was Ashley and what she said. She’d been burned by a player before, but if she was telling me that she wanted me to wait then she was clearly not opposed to the idea of sleeping with me at some point. Which meant that I was in with a shot. And that also meant that she didn’t have a boyfriend, after all, how could I be in with a shot if she were dating someone else? Ashley really didn’t seem like the type of girl to cheat and cause someone any pain. That still left the huge question of DJ. I knew he existed because Bryson had asked about him, but he wasn’t her boyfriend I would put money on it. She had never actually specifically told me she had a boyfriend, in fact, she’d never mentioned the word ‘boyfriend’ at all. I was just jumping to conclusions, and she was playing along trying to ward me off because she was scared of players. Due to her cancelling the evening date, I called Seth to see what he was doing instead;
When I went to pull back, she shook her head and wrapped her arms around my neck. “If I’m going to die then I want something incredible to be my last memory. So make it count,” she muttered, pulling my mouth back to hers roughly. I smiled against her lips and kissed her passionately, tracing my tongue along her bottom lip. She stepped impossibly closer, crushing her chest against mine as she moaned into my mouth. I grunted, sliding one hand to the nape of her neck. All I wanted was to kiss and feel every inch of her. I broke the kiss just as I was getting a little breathless. Dipping my head, I nibbled on her earlobe, listening to her pant for breath. “That was so hot,” I whispered, as I ran my tongue along the edge of her ear. She shivered against me and nodded. “That’s just what I was thinking.” “So, are we ready now, or was that not incredible enough?” I teased, pulling back fractionally. It was certainly incredible enough for me, if I died right now I would be
I chuckled at her angry face. She looked adorable when she was mad. Smiling, I walked over to her side, watching as she tried to detach herself from the ropes so she could make the dramatic exit that she was obviously going for last time. “Here, let me help you,” I suggested, pushing her hands away from the ropes gently and stepping in front of her more. I gripped her hips and pulled her closer to me, pretending to be working on the clips but in actual fact, just running my hand over her hips and stomach lightly. I bent my head down to her level and looked into her eyes. “I’m sorry. That was mean and insensitive. Forgive me?” I asked, giving her my puppy dog face. She scowled at me and shook her head. “That scared me.” “I know, and I’m sorry,” I whispered, leaning forward further and kissing her cheek gently as I traced my hand across her lower back. “I won’t do that again.” I kissed across to her ear, nipping her earlobe lightly. “Say you’ll forgive me, please
Every day of the following week I spoke to her on the phone for at least an hour. It was like I couldn’t get enough of hearing her talk. I was still seeing my friends and going out just as much as I usually would, but I just didn’t seem to notice the girls around me anymore. When Seth pointed one out, I would compare her to Ashley, and there really was no comparison at all. No one stood a chance. All of my friends found it highly amusing that I was now pining over a girl. Even Russell from work was laughing at me because I’d finally started to ‘grow up’ as he put it. He found it hilarious that Ashley was making me wait for sex. He said that this was Karma coming back to bite me firmly in the ass. I was finally starting to understand some of what we put Ashton through when he fell for Anna and we’d all ripped the shit out of him for it. But the thing was, I just didn’t care how much they teased me, I just smiled and shrugged and looked forward to talking to her before I fel
Stopping at the nearest bar, I headed in, desperate for a drink. My head was spinning with thoughts, and I just didn’t want to think about that guy’s hand on her back, or how perfect the three of them looked together. I didn’t want to think about how the little boy in the bed had the exact same shade of reddish-brown hair that Ashley had. I just couldn’t help but feel angry. Everything about the last three weeks had been perfect. It was just typical that something had to come along and spoil it. The one girl I actually really start to like, and it turned out she was a complete liar and a cheat. It was different when I thought that she was just cheating on a boyfriend because that kind of thing happened everyday, so it didn’t feel as low. But the thought of her being married, having a child, and using me for a little excitement because her life was probably boring, the fact that if this had carried on I might have broken up a family and home, those thoughts made me feel a littl
“Sorry, Minnie, it’s my fault. I’ll stop talking about her now, but you need to stop bringing her up too,” I accused, waving for the barman again. She laughed and raised one questioning eyebrow. “Minnie?” Ah, fuck it; she noticed my reference to the screechy cartoon mouse. I grasped desperately at something that wasn’t to do with the fact that every time she opened her mouth all the cats in LA sat up and looked around for their next meal. Suddenly an idea hit me. “Yeah Minnie, like the little mouse,” I confirmed. “Because you’re so cute I just want to pick you up and put you in my pocket and carry you around all day.” I shrugged, chuckling into my glass, causing whiskey to slop out over the side and onto the bar. “Aww, that’s kinda sweet. No one’s ever called me that before.” She smiled happily which made me laugh even harder. She smiled seductively. “So, I was thinking… this girl’s hurt you, right?” she asked, stepping closer to me. I resisted the urge to s
I felt sick; DJ was clearly in pain and I could do nothing about it. I turned to Josh. “What happened?” I snapped accusingly. He frowned angrily. “Don’t you dare blame me for this. This isn’t my fault! He was jumping on the bed, I’d told him not to do it, but he carried on and then fell off,” he retorted, throwing his hands up in exasperation. I groaned. DJ did like to jump on beds, and I’d told him time and time again not to do it, I couldn’t really blame Josh for this. “Okay, sorry.” His face softened as he looked at me apologetically. “It’s alright. I’m sorry I had to call you away from your date.” Holy fudge balls, my date! I turned back to Jace, knowing that he must be wondering what on earth was going on. I hadn’t told him about DJ yet so hearing him call me Momma would have knocked him for six. But as I turned, I noticed that he wasn’t there. My eyes widened. Had he seen DJ, heard him call me Momma, and then left? The air left my lungs quickly. O
I sighed, knowing I deserved his anger. “I’m really sorry. I should have told you, but I just… I don’t know… it was nice for a little while to have you look at me. I swear I didn’t mean to mislead you or anything, but I liked having your attention. I guess I knew that as soon as you found out about DJ that you’d run a mile. I’m sorry, Jace. I was going to tell you though, I swear. Next week.” I rested my forehead on the table. I actually wanted to cry, but I wouldn’t let myself, I had only known him for three weeks; it was nothing serious, so I shouldn’t be upset about it. “So your husband doesn’t treat you nice any more, doesn’t take you out, so you just decided to go have a little fun with a new guy? Screw him and screw family?” Jace replied acidly. Screw family? Is he kidding me right now? How dare he just assume things about me and my family! “Jace, you need to chill out. I know I didn’t tell you about DJ, but don't you dare start assuming anything about my fam
