Chapter 22 Beat Up Ned Brooks

Author: Five Generals
Ignoring the ferocious glares of the Quint family, Kaze went over to help Darcy up. “Darcy, let’s go home. I assure you nothing will happen.”

He also helped Agnes up and brought them out of the mansion.

“Darcy, you hit Ned Brooks! Do you really think you can run away like that? Turn yourself in!”

“You better surrender for the sake of our family! Think of your parents! Hmph!”

The others continued to threaten Darcy, causing her face to turn as pale as paper.

“Kaze, send Mom and Dad home. I’ll go turn myself in.”

After leaving the Quint family’s mansion, Darcy held Kaze’s hand as tears washed her face. She said, “Please take care of them. I don’t believe my grandfather and the others, but I believe in you.”

Agnes was worried. She pulled Darcy away and said to Kaze, “Kaze, why don’t you take her spot? Darcy has suffered enough for the past few years and it’s all because of you.”

Kaze’s heart was broken, but it was indeed his fault that Darcy and her family suffered terribly

“What the fuck are you trying to do? Don’t come near me!” Ned instinctively retreated. His face turned pale. “Your wife hit me! One word and I can throw her behind bars for life!” “Are you threatening me?” Kaze darted forward and lifted the bastard by the collar. Bang! He rammed Ned’s head against the glass partition, leaving his head dangling outside while the rest of his body hung over the metal railing. “Aaaaaaah!” Ned screamed at the top of his lungs while struggling to get unstuck. The broken glasses cut his face, causing him to bleed terribly. “I am the Chief of the Housing Department! How dare you hit me, you fucking retard! You and your family are fucking dead!” Kaze did not say a word. He simply kicked the man’s bottom. “Aaaaaaah!” The kick squeezed Ned’s upper body out of the glass partition. The metal railing was crooked after the impact. Ned felt like his bones were all broken. Kaze went outside the office, grabbed Ned by the neck, and pulled his

Everyone was shocked. What happened? Ned was beaten and stepped on but Johnson, his uncle and also the mayor, scolded him instead of apprehending the culprit. Johnson clenched his teeth tightly and stared at his nephew viciously. “Uncle Johnson, can’t you see? He almost killed me!” Ned continued screaming for help. “You got what you deserved!” Johnson then looked at the expressionless Kaze. He clenched his fists and teeth tightly. Then, he looked around and walked to an employee to take the baseball bat away. The employee planned to beat Kaze with the baseball bat, but it did not happen. Johnson raised the bat in the air. As more than a hundred pairs of eyes watched in disbelief, John swung the bat down at Ned. “Aaaargh!” Ned cried in pain. It was just the start. Johnson beat Ned furiously and he did not hold back at all. Ned continued to wail in pain. He had never been so insulted and humiliated before, being beaten up by his own uncle in front of more than a h

Ned glared at his wife. He then turned to Darcy, who was mortified, and bowed apologetically. “Ms. Quint, I am so sorry, please don’t turn yourself in or whatever. I should be punished for what I did to you, you have every right to hit me!” He then slapped himself a few times. Nara was stunned by her husband’s action but she dared not say a word. She knew her husband must have offended some powerful people. “Chief Brooks, uh…” Darcy and her parents were stunned as well. Then, Kaze showed up. Darcy asked hurriedly, “Kaze, what is going on?” “I went to the Housing Department, beat him up, and he swore not to take revenge on us,” Kaze said with a smile. Darcy and her parents then realized Ned was covered in injuries. Ned then said timidly, “Yes, yes. Mr. Lee has taught me a lesson and I learned what I did wrong. I will never do it again.” “Chief Brooks, you’re not taking revenge anymore?” Darcy was still concerned. She was afraid that Ned simply agreed not to take re

Bruno nervously wiped his sweaty forehead. He scolded himself inwardly for being impatient. After Kaze moved into Horizon Mirror Mansion, Bruno had many more chances to flatter the man. “Yes, yes. I’ll tell my men to prepare the necessary documents.” Kaze nodded. Bruno breathed a sigh of relief and immediately left. “I have to go to the washroom,” Kaze said to Snow and went ahead. Snow was smart enough not to follow. “Hey, isn’t this Kaze, who impersonated the chairman the other day? What are you doing here in Saika Furniture?” Before Kaze entered the washroom, the strange voice of a woman resounded in his ears. Kelly, with her heels clacking, came over with a contemptuous look. Kaze had no good impression of the woman. He wanted to ignore her but the woman got in his way. He smiled and said, “I am here with Bruno Bandino to choose some furniture for my house.” Kelly looked at him with disdain. The useless retard was bragging in front of her. Of course, she knew

Kelly was thrilled when Bruno accepted her resume. She then widened her eyes at Kaze, who made her pass the interview with just one word. Who exactly was the man? Kaze was inside the washroom but then his voice rang from inside, saying, “I’m not familiar with her.” His words destroyed Kelly’s hopes and excitement. She saw Bruno tearing her resume into pieces in front of her. …“Take care, Mr. Lee!” When the Bandino cousins sent Kaze out, he saw Kelly being thrown out by the two security guards. Kelly saw Kaze entering the car with Snow. She ran over to the door and cried, “Kaze, I was wrong! Sorry, I shouldn’t have scolded you or asked you to leave! Please forgive me! Please tell Mr. Bandino, I really need the job! Please!” Snow sharply noticed the expressionless face on Kaze. She said to the driver, “Drive.” The window was wound up and the Maybach drove off. …Samus and Deborah went to Master Quint. “Grandfather, do something about Darcy and her family. They

Master Quint pointed at a mansion by the shore and asked, “Is that the Horizon Mirror?” “No. That’s the mansion of Draco Lang, the new Chief Commander of Lilyrose Strategy Department. The Horizon Mirror is on another side,” explained the guide as he pointed at the nearest building by the shore. “That means we will be neighbors with the Chief Commander if we live here!” Rudy’s eyes glimmered with hope upon hearing the guide. Meanwhile, at Horizon Mirror, Kaze was bringing Darcy and his in-laws around the mansion. They had not officially moved in, but his mother-in-law was bragging to everyone about moving into the mansion soon. “This open kitchen is really huge! And the dining area! Why don’t we move in today?” Agnes said excitedly as she touched everything she saw. Darcy chuckled helplessly and said, “Mom, you are rushing things. We still need to buy a lot of furniture…” “Darcy, at least you know that you are poor and unable to afford all those expensive furniture!” D

Samus was trying to get the Horizon Mirror Mansion without spending a dime. Kaze smiled and nodded. “Of course, let’s bet.” Before he could speak any further, Agnes stopped him. “What are you talking about?” Agnes stared at him. “We are not taking the bet! The Horizon Mirror is our home! Don’t even think about taking it away, Samus!” Samus pouted. “You really think I’m an idiot? I’m just playing with your retarded son-in-law. You people are poor, if you don’t have the balls to bet, then don’t brag like you have them!” Agnes was silenced. She turned pale, and like her daughter, she did not have any valid points to counter. She turned away, aggrieved. Kaze then said coldly, “Samus, watch your mouth. So, is the bet still on?” Samus was slightly surprised. He did not expect Kaze to accept his bet. He laughed hysterically as if Kaze were a dead man. He said wickedly, "If you want to bet, then let's bet." “Kaze, don’t do anything stupid!” Darcy pulled Kaze back. Even if h

Gasp! Everyone choked in shock, including Darcy and her parents. Master Quint and the others reacted bitterly. They had been teasing and sneering at Kaze for not being able to afford ten million dollars worth of furniture, yet the rosewood study table set alone was worth exactly that much. Kaze went up to Master Quint and smiled, “Grandfather, is this house big enough?” “It’s huge! Not just the house, even the lake outside is massive! Haha!” Master Quint was much more courteous when he talked to Kaze now. Kaze smiled. “Is it classy enough?” “Of course! This house is worth fifty million! Many people dare not even dream about living here!” Kaze remained smiling. “Then I believe staying here must look good, right?” “Of course! There are less than a handful of families in Lilyrose who could afford this place!” Master Quint nodded. He thought Kaze asking all these questions was because he wanted to invite him to move in together. Kaze then put his smile away and said,

“What do you want to eat?” Since Leah already understood the situation, explanation was no longer necessary. Kaze asked her another question instead. “I always had steak but I’ve grown tired of it. Why don’t we go somewhere else?” Leah was not a fan of the restaurant despite the menu frequently changing. She no longer enjoyed dining at the place because she had been eating there for as long as she could remember. “Then let’s go have a stroll. Maybe we can stumble upon a new restaurant or something.” Kaze liked strolling around the city. The dishes prepared by a grand restaurant were nothing short of delicious but they lacked sentimental value. Whenever he was away on a trip, he preferred to visit stalls or smaller restaurants operated by individual owners to enjoy the warmth and hospitality that one could never experience in a large establishment. The emotional value he felt when dining would certainly make the food taste better. “Sure. I have never really been outside

“That’s perfectly fine too. So long as you’re happy, you should have a say in the kind of life you want to live.” Kaze would not tell Leah what to do because it was her life. Leah was the master of her own destiny. “You’re the best. I feel relaxed around you. You won’t judge me.” Maybe Leah had lost her sense of self, being controlled by her mother. She would fall back to her usual habits when confronted with challenges. Eventually, she would lose her identity and the will to change everything. Every little thing would become an obstacle to her, but she would want to break free. “To be honest, we just met. I don’t have the right to tell you what to do. This is the way it should be. I’d be overstepping to ask more of you.” Kaze felt that Leah was being too strict with herself. “You’re right. My experiences shaped my personality.” Leah believed she should not be trivial. Kaze had a point about enjoying life. She should learn to say no. Leah was too afraid of hurt

“No, but thank you for the reminder.” Kaze was not afraid of Katie. Leah had no reason to panic. “Do you really not blame me? But if you work here, there are some things you must avoid.”Leah wished the incident never happened. Without Kaze’s help, she would not have escaped Perry’s harassment. If she had not introduced Kaze to her mother, a misunderstanding between them would not have occurred. Sometimes, Leah wondered if she was cursed to bring the people around her bad luck. “It’s nothing. The minor issue can be resolved.” Kaze did not care if Katie was out to get him. If Katie knew who he was, she would be all over him to get in his good graces. Leah was simply oblivious to the situation. She would know what to do once she figured everything out. “Have you had dinner?” Kaze’s stomach was empty. He did not have an appetite while in the room. He left the penthouse seeking food. His question took Leah by surprise. “I didn’t feel like having anything earlier.

Leah was filled with joy, talking about her experiences at the hotel. It must be a worry-free past. Kaze looked at the garden shrouded in the dark, not finding anything different. The surroundings were a blur at night. The view must be beautiful during the day. However, there was nothing to see right now. “You must have a good memory of the place.” Kaze ran into Leah bawling her eyes out. Kaze could have walked away, but Leah was met with trouble. The incident was linked to Kaze too. Nevertheless, everything was good with Leah now. It was time for Kaze to excuse himself. “I was often on my own during my childhood. I don’t have close friends. My favorite thing to do was admire the view.” The time passed quickly when Leah talked about herself. “You have a nice life.” Kaze did not have to worry about her. Despite her innocence, Leah was a witty kid. “Not really. I keep myself entertained.” Bitterness overcame Leah. However, she was hesitant to whine a lot, especi

“Don’t get yourself worked up. Everything will be fine.” Kaze stressed. Leah wiped her tears and stared at Kaze through her blurry vision. Though there was no telling whether Kaze was right, Leah wanted to give it a go. “Really? Is he not going to be on board with the idea?” Leah did not know where else to turn to. Kaze was surprised by the coincidence. If Katie wanted to give Leah’s hand-in-marriage to Kaze, he would definitely say no. There was no way that would happen. Kaze could not turn his back on Leah’s puppy-dog eyes. “Certain things aren’t so complicated. If you make things clear, I believe the VIP from the Viper’s Den will keep his distance. I doubt he will force a young lady.” This was his way of convincing Leah without exposing his identity. “I see. I will give it a shot then.” Putting faith in Kaze, Leah felt relaxed. She turned to Kaze. “What are you doing here? Are you working here?” Leah asked curiously. The Northborn Hotel’s clientele was th

Kaze found Leah adorable and energetic. She was an innocent cutie pie too. Leah was a rare gem of a girl. Since they were acquainted, it was only right Kaze helped her out. “I don’t know whether it’s true, but my mother’s assistant told me that she planned to marry me off to an old man.” It was unclear to Leah who the man from the Viper’s Den was, but he must rank higher and be older than Katie. Leah imagined the worst-case scenario, wondering if her mother would abandon her. “Why would she do that? Who is the man?” Kaze was taken aback. It was said that Katie adored her daughter and cared for her deeply. Surely, she would not choose her career over her daughter. “Joey told me that my mother went to the penthouse to visit the supposed guest from the Viper’s Den.” Leah recounted everything she knew. Kaze thought it was strange because he was the only one living on the top floor. There was no one else on the floor. To think Katie even paid a visit. Kaze had no i

Leah hopped off the chair and approached Kaze. “It’s me. You helped me on the train today.” Leah held Kaze’s arm in glee. She thought they would never meet again. Leah did not even get his number, so she could not get in touch with him. By sheer luck, they ran into each other tonight. “It’s you.” Kaze thought the girl was quite a character. To think he would bump into her at the hotel. “Aren’t you upset with me? My mother was harsh today.” Though Leah was glad to see Kaze, Kaze’s friendly attitude shocked her. She assumed he would be mad, but he did not seem to care in the slightest. “Your mother and you are two separate people. Her behavior is not on you.” Kaze would not take out his anger toward Katie on Leah. They were mother and daughter, but they were their own persons. Katie’s statement did not represent Leah. “You’re such a great guy. I thought you’d be upset. A lot of people distanced themselves from me because of my mother. “But you don’t.” Leah was

Kaze had to do everything himself. The walk along the path offered a nice view of the hotel’s garden in the back. Even at night, the streetlight illuminated the path and highlighted the lush greens. Not in a hurry to fill his belly, Kaze entered the garden. He planned to wander around and come for a swim tomorrow. The hotel was packed with guests, and no one knew who he was. Kaze could indulge himself a little. Kaze walked along the path and admired the blossoming flowers. Even at night, Kaze was impressed with the view. He looked up at the sky. The starry stars covered the night sky. It was not something he could see every day. Stars were rare in a concrete jungle. The clear weather tonight probably welcomed a myriad of stars. “The scenery here is great,” Kaze commented. He took a detour around the garden to head back to the lobby. On his way to the lobby, he saw a girl sitting in the gazebo. It was late. Yet, someone found time to rest in a gazebo. Kaze w

Joey believed that there was a chance to turn things around since nothing was set in stone yet. Most importantly, the high-ranking member of the Viper’s Den did not show any respect to Katie. Perhaps the VIP thought little of Katie. Even if Katie tried to curry his favor, she likely would not succeed. It was just hypothetical, though. If the VIP were interested in Leah’s hand-in-marriage, the whole thing would be a done deal. It would not matter if the VIP were married or promised to another woman. Leah would become a pawn. Leah relaxed. So long as there was room for changes, Leah would put in the effort. If the VIP were after her looks, Leah would give up her appearance in exchange for her freedom. Her mother may be very upset, but no one had the right to decide her happiness. Leah would not make such a drastic decision unless she had to. She could not back down now. Joey patted Leah’s shoulder to offer comfort. “Don’t worry too much about it. Your mother loves y
