Azura-

I couldn’t believe it worked. Standing in front of Cyran, wearing clothing that seemed outdated, as if they were from thousands of years ago, I was having a hard time grasping it all. Stepping closer, I studied him. If it weren’t for the clothing and the hairstyle, I would think he was the same Cyran I knew today.

Noticing he was looking past me as if he couldn’t see me at all, I turned around. I sucked in a sharp breath when I saw someone that looked exactly like me. She was wearing a long flowing cotton dress, with a brown sash tied around her waist.

There was something about her that was different as if her essence was nothing like mine. An air of sadness hung around her, as tears welled in her eyes. Appearance-wise, there wasn’t a single thing about her that was different from me, other than her hair wasn’t cut like mine.

I didn’t know what was wrong with her. For some reason, when I glanced behind me at Cyran, who was still standing perfectly still, I knew this was the fir

Azura-“Excuse me?” Cyran’s right brow dropped slightly as he tilted his head to the left a little.“I, uhm…” I thought about what I was going to say but decided to just repeat myself. “I was just wondering how close you were with Arric.”“Not as close as we used to be, but he is my brother and someone I would risk my life for.”Hearing that, I knew I was going to have to tread lightly. If it came down to choosing sides, there is no doubt he would side with his brother over me. After all, I suspected that I was an eyesore to him. He regarded me as nothing more than his replacement mate.“I see.” I mumbled as I lowered my gaze to my hands.“Why do you ask?”“No reason, I was simply curious. I keep hearing things about everyone, but I am struggling to accept certain things.” I shrugged, without lifting my eyes to look at him.“If you are worried about Arric, you shouldn’t be. In fact, he is probably the only other one you can completely trust, aside from me and Kellan. Before I met Azur

Azura-Time seemed to speed up over the next couple of months. After dreaming of Arric, my tension around him eased. I was still cautious, but not nearly as bad as I had been. Every night I dreamt of a memory I had shared with Arric.I had been filled with warmth and love. I felt that part of the reason I had been so on edge around him, was probably some form of guilt. It helped that as time went on, I didn’t feel like Arric was here to harm me.He wasn’t the same as he had been in my memories, but I suspected that it was because he had changed over the years. I wished that my memories consisted of Cyran, but they were all focused on Arric. The only time I could remember anything about Cyran was if I saw it after being hypnotized. The difference between when I was being hypnotized and dreaming, was the point of view. During my dreams, it was from a first-person point of view, where I could feel everything and feel completely connected. Unlike when I was being hypnotized, it was from a

Azura-This had to be the longest winter in history. I thought that I could keep myself busy, but there wasn’t much to do. I tried to write, but when I tried to work on the story, I was hit was severe writer’s block. I kept thinking about Cyran and hoping he was safe.“Has he checked in yet?” I asked Kellan for probably the hundredth time.“Not yet.” Kellan didn’t even look up from his computer as he answered.Although I have asked him every day for the past few months, he hasn’t seemed annoyed by it. Even Jade did not seem bothered by it because I have asked her just as many times. Leaning back in my chair at the table, I looked out the back door.We had just finished eating lunch and just hanging out like we normally did. Things at home have become natural to the point I felt as if it were my home. The only difference was that Cyran wasn’t here.I didn’t have any expectations for him when he did return, but I hoped that I could find a way to connect with him. At the very least I hop

  • Guardian Dragon   Chapter 23

Azura-Two days later, I am at my wit’s end about how to make Cyran feel better. He keeps avoiding me and when I do try to interact with him, he won’t even look at me or respond. I tried to have Kellan talk to him and find out what was going on, but he told me that he was unable to get any information out of him.It was clear that Cyran was avoiding me specifically because he had no problem interacting with Kellan or Jade. Thinking he just needed space, after making supper for us, I placed his plate outside his door, as I have been doing the last two days. As for me, I placed my food in the microwave while I cleaned the kitchen.Taking my plate to the basement, I closed the door, so I wasn’t bothering him. I tried to work on my writing, but it was difficult to focus. Feeling like it was pointless to force myself to write, I laid down on the couch.Since I forgot to bring a book down, I just rested my eyes to sleep. I woke up a few hours later, and I was unable to fall asleep again. Si

  • Guardian Dragon   Chapter 24

Azura-All day I avoided Cyran, as he wanted me to stay away from him. I thought that until he at least cooled off, I would abide by his request. It helped that Jade came over and offered to cook meals today, which allowed me to stay in the basement. For most of the morning, I struggled with my writing, but by afternoon I managed to write a few chapters. After eating supper, I reread the chapters and realized they weren’t that great. In the end, I deleted the chapters.Until I could get my head right and settle the emotional turmoil that I was in over Cyran, I was not going to try to write for now. I would prefer to give my book the best writing material that I could, instead of mediocre stuff when I wasn’t feeling what I was writing. Maybe this wasn’t the career I should have chosen.Sighing, I debated on sleeping in the basement tonight or returning to my room. I didn’t want to chance running into Cyran. The last thing I wanted was to upset him more than he already was. After consid

Cyran-Lingering by the pool long after Azura went into the house, I fixed my gaze on the water. What I saw wasn’t the water though, it was fragments of memories as I recounted the scene of finding Azura dead in a cave. Since seeing the first Potential Stone Keeper in the cave, at the beginning of winter, I couldn’t stop seeing Azura’s dead body, covered in blood.Every night I have relived the same nightmare, never finding any relief. It wasn’t until I woke up next to Azura the night before last that I had finally slept. I had been angered to see her in the room, but more than that I had been mad at myself. When I first woke up, I had been surprised to see her next to me, but I had mostly felt a warmth spread through my veins. That alone had been enough to make me want to keep her as far away from me as possible. If the last few months weren’t enough of a reminder to stay away from her, I didn’t know what was. This morning when I woke up, having slept soundly, I realized that I neede

  • Guardian Dragon   Chapter 26

Azura-Sitting across from Cyran as we ate, I was struggling to understand what was going on. Since this morning, it was like his personality has changed drastically. He wasn’t glaring at me or giving me the cold shoulder. We weren’t talking as we ate, but it just seemed like everything was now working in my favor. I hadn’t even mentioned the idea of getting out of the house. It was strange that he had suggested it.Then there was the kiss. I wasn’t even going to attempt to dissect that. It wasn’t like it had been the first time he had kissed me unexpectedly. This time though, I wished he wouldn’t have stopped. Sneaking a glance at him across the table on occasion, I tried not to get wrapped in the kiss and expect more from him. This entire situation was a complete mess.On the plus side, I was glad to be out of the house even if it was just for a little bit. Looking around the small restaurant, I was happy to see so many people. They weren’t even paying any attention to me, which I l

  • Guardian Dragon   Chapter 27

Azura-That night, I thought I would sleep in the same bed as Cyran, but he had yet to return home. Jade informed me that he and Kellan had left to handle some things. She didn’t know the details but told me not to worry. The next morning, I woke up alone in bed. After searching the house, I learned that Cyran hadn’t returned. I had texted Jade to see if she knew anything, but she didn’t. As the day went on, I began to worry. I didn’t like the uncertainty that I felt not knowing if he was okay. One day, turned to two and then three. I tried to keep myself busy, so I didn’t agonize about it, but it was difficult to concentrate on anything. Jade spent time with me, telling me that it was normal for them to disappear to take care of things. With the killings lately, she suspected it was related to that.I still didn’t like how they disappeared without at least letting us know what was going on. What if something happened while they were gone? I even tried texting and calling Cyran multip

  • Guardian Dragon   Epilogue: 30 Years later

Azura-“Are you ready?” I knocked on the bathroom door, where mine and Cyran’s sixteen-year-old daughter was getting ready.“Almost!” Angel yelled although it wasn’t necessary since I could hear her clearly.Tonight was the anniversary of Dragon’s becoming exposed. Everyone called it D-day. This meant that now that Angel had her Dragon, she could fly with her father for the first time instead of as a rider. I was a little envious of them now that they could fly around freely. Somedays I wished that I had become a Dragon and could fly with them. Then again, I was perfectly content with being a Rider. Ever since Dragons have been exposed, things have changed drastically. At first, things had been bad, and we never thought that humans would accept Supernatural creatures. Not all of the supernatural were ready to expose themselves, but that was up to them. Those who have, joined society. There were some that have become employed by humans. Some joined the police force, fire department, be

Cyran-“Release the shield!” I yelled. When the barrier was down, Arion flew into the sky, fleeing as quickly as he could. A moment after he left, the last of the rubble from the building fell, until everything was settled. A large block of cement was atop me, but I was able to throw it off of me with ease.Checking to make sure Azura was okay, I moved away from her when I saw she was fine. Checking the others, I saw that everyone was mostly okay, except for the now humans that were crushed below the rubble. Part of me felt guilty that they didn’t survive, now that they were human, while at the same time, I was relieved they would no longer be an issue.Helping a few to their feet, I returned to Azura’s side and attempted to wipe away the dirt on her face. She placed her hand over mine and looked up at me with love shining brightly in her eyes. She was safe and that was the only thing I could think of right now.“You need to go after him. Until he is dealt with, this isn’t going to be

  • Guardian Dragon   Chapter 54

Cyran-Leaving with Kellan, Azura, and Jade, we made our way to the headquarters of the council. The others lingered behind, so they could prepare. The goal was to catch everyone off guard, which meant we couldn’t try anything right away.Walking into the building with just Azura, Jade and Kellan stayed behind to greet the others. The guard at the entrance wouldn’t allow them to enter anyway. It would be better if Kellan went in as well, but I understood they were being cautious.Standing in the room with the council members and Arion, I had to force myself to refrain from showing my hand just yet. Azura was doing a better job at acting, as she stood behind me, using my body as a shield. I could sense she was nervous, which I was too. There wasn’t any guarantee that things were going to work out in our favor. Right now, all we could do was have a little faith that everyone would do their part. No one spoke a word for a long time until Arion stood up and moved around the long table.“I

Cyran-With the members that would be joining the council, we released the others to return to whatever they were doing. They all agreed to help in any way that they could, but right now we needed to establish the plan. Taking the meeting to Trenton’s house, which was larger, I felt as if a weight had been lifted from my shoulders. At first, when Trenton told everyone what was going on, I wasn’t sure if they would agree to help. They didn’t seem to trust me, and I didn’t blame them. What my father did was beyond anything I could have imagined, and I had witnessed a lot of it.As Trenton talked more about everything, I began to see hope gleaming in their eyes. It didn’t take as long as I had thought it would for everyone to be on board. Now that we had the members to create a thirteen-member council, including Charles, I knew we were on the right path. The only member on the council that wasn’t a Dragon, was Azura. I discussed it with her as we walked to Trenton’s house, which she had

Azura-“With everything we have, is there a way to face Arion and the council, or do we need more?” I glanced around the room, hoping someone had an idea.Between what I found out about my past and Cyran learning what he did, there had to be something we could do. The only one who seemed deep in thought was Cyran, while the others looked as if they didn’t know what to do. No one said anything for a while, but then I had an idea.“In the past, I had spoken to Trenton about having him meet with Cyran to discuss a way for all of us to work together. Maybe we can still do that. Now that we know they were treated unjustly, perhaps Trenton and the others would be willing to work with us for a long-term solution?” My eyes landed on Trenton as I spoke and hoped that he was still willing to change our future.“I was thinking the same thing. For me to put an end to the current council, I would need new members to appoint. If I could put together another council, we could clean up this mess. Of

Cyran-“That is part of it, but I don’t know the rest of it. I can’t find anything in your memories about it, so I think it was something that happened before your time.” Trenton answered without looking at me.Since there was nothing, I could do about it now, I turned back to watch. We still needed to figure out how to stop the council, but so far all I was seeing was that my father hadn’t been the King I thought he was. Nor had he been the father I had admired.“Why don’t you stop this? As the council, aren’t you supposed to ensure that rules are followed? Isn’t this against the rules?” Little Cyran asked the council member who stepped forward to observe the younger version of Trenton who was being beaten with a whip.“Little boy, your father holds all the power. The council is here to enforce his rule and we all agree with him. It is because your father chose us as his council that we are able to do what we can to control things. Since you won’t remember this, I have no problem tel

  • Guardian Dragon   Chapter 50

Cyran-“Let’s track down any potential Dragon Stone Keeper that was born around the time of Cyran. Cyran was born. Most Keepers are around the same age as their Guardians. Once all of them have been captured, we will expand our search to capture others.” My father said while getting agreeable nods from the others.I wasn’t sure how to feel right now. There were too many feelings rushing through me. There was anger, confusion, disbelief, shock and so much more.“What will happen after we capture them, and you die? How can we ensure that they will be killed?”“Let me worry about that.” My father had a smirk on his face like he already knew what he needed to do.I waited for them to talk more, but shortly after they began to leave, and Trenton sped time along. When we stopped, we were now standing in the backyard, where my father had us kids trained. I didn’t see him or Arion, but Arric and I were training with one of my father’s warriors.A few minutes passed and I wondered why we stopp

Cyran- “Are you ready for this?” Trenton asked the moment he walked in the door. Looking over at Azura who was snuggled next to me on the couch, I could tell she didn’t want me to go. We already discussed it this morning. She was worried about something going wrong. Tightening my hold on her, I pressed my lips against her forehead. “It will be okay.” I assured her, although I didn’t believe it myself. She nodded her head after a few moments of hesitation. Giving her a smile, I pressed my lips against hers, before releasing her and standing up. Azura stood up beside me and threw her arms around me, faster than I had ever seen her move. “Please be safe and no matter what happens, remember I am here waiting for you, and we will get through it.” She spoke into my ear and clung to me. “I promise.” I wrapped my arms around her and almost had to pry her from me, although I wished I didn’t have to leave her. The words she spoke were similar to the words I had whispered to her after she

Azura-My head felt as if it were pounding. Every molecule in my body felt heavy as if I had been drinking heavily the night before. Pressing my hands to my head, I heard myself groan. I didn’t open my eyes, but when I felt a soft touch against my forehead, I sighed contently.“How are you feeling?” The sound of Cyran’s voice jarred me and I quickly opened my eyes and sat up.“Fine.” I blurted, although I was far from fine.He moved toward me, with one arm sliding across the back of the couch. Scooting away, I pulled my feet onto the couch, while wrapping my arms around my legs. I still remembered what happened, so I believed that Cyran was better off not having me around. Not that I was going to kill myself or anything, but I needed to think of a way to keep myself safe while staying as far away from him as possible. Kellan scoffed and I immediately knew he was invading my thoughts. Glaring at him he held up his hands in defense.“We made a promise, yes, but I had to at least make su
