Dinner

“Stop Sandy. I can't do what”

“Why not?!” she retorted.

“Because it's crazy!” she kept pulling at me.

“Please, Kim. It's fun trust me. You have to unbottle pent up nerves” she pouted looking at me while the car was still in motion. I wasn't scared because I knew the car was automated and would take us straight home without Cassandra steering it.

Her Dad had ordered the car for her after she bashed her former car which he had initially threatened not get another one for her if she lost it. But here we are inside this baby which he had called directly from the company to have them customise for his favourite baby on her 20th birthday.

When she had called and told me about the car, I have been so excited knowing that our remaining school days is going to be suave with such a car. They were already gushing over us, not to mention when we alight from a car this posh, they would bend to lick our feet in envy.

Whenever Cassandra got anything, it was more like I owned it because we literally shared everything. Most of the contract my Dad handles are being awarded to him by her Dad. It would be fair to say that my family is where it is today all because of them. They were really nice and generous people. Which is the main reason why I didn't want Williams messing everything up with his boyish crush.

I wouldn't want him involved with my friend and then maybe things don't work, out as it always doesn't work out for him when it comes to women. He had less regard for girls, and if he eventually acts like that with Cassandra, her dad would be crossed with Him and I fear it might affect my family. She is my best friend and we are all happy.

I intend things to remain that way. She was too good to be with someone is selfish as my dear self conceived ratface of a brother.

Knowing she was never going to  let me be until I do what she wants, I huffed and gently bit into my lower lip deciding to stand-up. What would I lose after all? I didn't want to stand because I was scared. What if the wind blows me away? I mean judging from the speed of the car, anything can happen and if___

“Go girl!” she clapped her hands to encourage me and I braced myself before boldly standing “Woo!” I exclaimed and felt the wind slap against my face. My hair whipped about me in a tousled manner causing me more excitement “This is great!” I screeched at the top of my voice. I looked around at the passerby who had their eyes fixated on us probably wondering if we have lost our marbles.

Hell yeah! We may have.

I shifted away with laughter when I felt Cassandra pullup beside me. “Get ready to bend down as we get to that tunnel” she pointed ahead at a dark down sloped hole down the road. My eyes widened and I dived back in on time not wanting to risk my head in the name of fun. I grabbed her around the waist and dragged her raucous self back into the car “Didn't you like that?!” she was still shouting.

“Yea. That was cool” I agreed.

“We would do that more often henceforth. By the time we get back to school, we would paint the place red with our disturbance”

“I believe you can” I responded believing every word she said “But just to be clear, I won't be joining in the disturbance”

“Let's wait and see” she deadpanned.

We soon reached our gate and I ran down to open it so she can drive in. The door flew open and Williams trudged out with his hands on his waist and a smirk on his face. On noticing Cassandra, he quickly arranged his hair and rubbed a finger on his brow.

What was that? Typical playboy.

I shook my head and looked at Cassandra who was alighting from the car “Hey, fine face” she greeted Williams and he reddened.

I snickered inside.

I am yet to see that woman that would have my brother blushing to his toes.

This was first.

“Hey, Sandy” he returned in a quiet voice. His physique bulged everywhere like a fighter from the wrestle mania club. Someone who don't know us would think he was my senior, due to his physique meanwhile I helped Mum nurse him in my little ways.

We climbed up the porch to meet him and then we all proceeded into the room. “Welcome to our home, Cassandra,” Williams said in a voice that was alien to me.

“This is her house too, Williams. What's with all the formalities?” I gaped at him. He threw me a ‘mind your business’ glare before moving to Cassandra who had flopped on the coffee brown coloured couch now. “I need a drink,” she said and stood to go get it but Williams stopped her and ran off like a hypnotised imbecile to help her out.

I was about to comment on his behaviour when I heard footsteps coming down the stairs followed by mum’s rambunctious voice “Oh, if not my beautiful Goddaughter” she gushed at reaching the foot of the stairs. “You have discoloured your hair” she added.

“Mum!” Cassandra squealed and ran to crash herself against her. “It's been so long, you look so fat now. I thought you were supposed to be fit or something” she barraged at mum sizing her up.

“I know right? Well, I've been on leave for a while now and here I am getting stuffed up like a bear by them’all” my mum quipped still holding Cassandra.

My mum loved her so much and was always delighted to have her around. I know it would break her heart when she announces she's leaving tomorrow.

I would let Cassandra do the honours.

“Where is the old crow?”

“Coming down in a bit. You know men and their flair for being in charge” Mum gestured with her hands as her body moved in sync.

“Oh, my Dad is like that sometimes,” Cassandra said before releasing herself from mum and moving to a distance. Williams came in from wasting so much time to get the water, and handed it to her. I was moved to ask him where he got the water since we had a fridge in the parlor where I had thought he would go to, but I decided against it.

“I was worried about you guys. But all the same, you are here now , so Williams run along and get your Dad. Tell him they're back. Hurry up so we can eat already” she shooed the disappointed Williams towards the study, my dad's second room.

“You two come along” she waved us on, as she led the way to the dining room. “So how's your mum coming on Sweetie? I heard she's coming out for the South districts governorship next year”

“Yes, mum but to be frank with you, that is the last thing I want to discuss right now. You know my reservations about politics” Casandra told her matter of factly.

“Yea. I understand. I would make sure to call her probably tomorrow. We need to meet for something very important”

“Mum can we eat now?. You said yourself no serious discussions during food time” I rolled my eyes inside at her line of discussion.

“Fine” she scooped food into her plate.

Well, I trust my friend. I liked the way she quickly cut the discussion off just before she even started. My mum was a strong lover of politics to a fault. I wouldn't be surprised if she contested for anything in the nearest future. From the glint in her eyes, I could tell that future is near.

“So my goddaughter is around?” My Dad thundered the minute he entered the dining followed by Williams who sat close to Cassadra on her right side.

“Yes, Mattew. How do you do? Pfft forget it, You look great!” she appraised my Dad and said.

“Well, I owe that to my Sweetspot,” he said and winked at mum.

Eww, gross!.

Can I not have a moment of normalcy in an abnormal  day?
