Jaybie glanced at his mother and then went to open the door.

Inside the house, Lil Oriole was standing on the table and eating sunflower seeds. Every time it ate a seed, it would say, "Dear wifey!" Johnson Yates sat next to it, cracking seeds for it.

"Uncle Johnson!" Jaybie called out and ran inside, pulling Lil Oriole into his arms.

"Eat, eat, eat!" Lil Oriole flapped its wings, struggling as it cried out.

Jaybie ignored Lil Oriole and stared at Johnson. "Uncle Johnson, how do you know our parrot likes sunflower seeds?"

Maxwell was about to scratch his nose instinctively, but he thought that his habit might expose his identity, so he pushed up his black-rimmed glasses instead. "I don't know that, I just saw parrots eating sunflower seeds before. I had some at home, so I thought I'd give it a try."

Jaybie did not say anything. He just looked at Maxwell with his sharp gaze.
