Lucas' POV

The girl looked nervous as I hauled her into the Mediland's golden throat. The mall's fluorescence carved the girl into something spectral. She hovered between racks of silk and chiffon, fingers brushing fabric like she expected it to bite. The salesgirls' laughter hung sharp in the air - hyenas circling a limping doe.

To my surprise, my hearing was back. I could clearly hear what they were mumbling behind the racks.

"Look at her. Poor little rat. How could someone like her end up with Alpha Lucas?" a girl whispered.

"Gold digger. Social climber. Boot licker..."

"And cock sucker!"

They giggled.

I silently sighed and ignored them.

I looked at the girl. She looked overwhelmed. I knew she must have heard what they'd said. She lowered her head and stood there, looking lost.

I walked to her.

"Pick something," I said.

"I don't need anything..." the girl looked horrified at the price tags. "Could

Finn's POVThe studio gates loomed like iron teeth. I stepped through, the scent of fake blood and sweat slapping me harder than the California heat. Outside, the Hills smoldered, ash staining the sky. Inside, they’d built a pantomime of apocalypse - extras in matted fur howling at a green screen, their plastic fangs glinting under klieg lights.A director barked into a headset. "Action!"A truck flipped, screeching on cables. A blonde actress spilled out, naked and screaming. From the rafters, a man in denim descended, Gatling gun roaring blanks. Extras dropped, melodramatic, as he scooped her up. Their kiss was all teeth, a parody of passion."Cut!" The director rubbed his temples.Complaints about the heat erupted - especially from the actress, who snatched a robe and cursed the air conditioner's death."Lycidas, could you try to use your tounge this time?" the director shouted. The cowboy - Lycidas - flashed a grin, all wolf

Lucas' POVThe Green Point bar stank of sweat and spilled whiskey. I watched the girl's throat work as she gulped the beer, amber liquid dripping down her chin like stolen honey. Her knuckles whitened around the glass. Thirsty little thing. Starving in ways I couldn't name."Did you...enjoy the beer?" I asked."It tastes like piss, but I'm thirsty," she wiped her mouth with the back of her hand."And did you enjoy today?" The question tasted rusty. Leah's ghost perched on the barstool between us, her hollow socket accusing me.The girl's shoulders hitched first. Silent sobs shook her frame, tears plinking into her empty glass. My chest tightened - that old reflex, that ancient guilt."What's going on? Did I do something wrong?" I held her hand and asked."It's just..." Her voice cracked like autumn leaves underboot. "Feels like the first real day. Like I've been sleepwalking till now. I've never been out for a proper date like this wi

Leah's POVWhere am I? A hotel?I woke to the weight of my own bones. I was like lead was being poured into a silk bathrobe.Sunlight stabbed through bulletproof glass. My skull pulsed with the rhythm of last night's beer bottles shattering against pavement. Memory came in shards: sticky bar stools, Lucas' laugh cutting through smoke, my own laughter curdling into retching. No blood. No teeth. Just the sour aftertaste of survival. The bathroom door hissed open.He moved like spilled ink - Alpha Lucas with his tailored cruelty, holding a glass where effervescent tablets hissed like trapped wasps. I clutched the quilt to my collarbones. His smirk was a blade drawn slowly across leather."Decency's really unnecessary in front of me, since I've already seen everything," he grinned. The glass clinked on marble. "Drink."I tasted ozone. My fingers trembled against Egyptian cotton. "Did you...?""Touch you?" He leaned into the bed's g

  • Goodbye, my mate   Chapter 202

Gean's POVThe coffee burned my palm, bitter and unnecessary. Leo's absence hit me before I crossed the threshold - no clatter of vials, no muttered curses at malfunctioning equipment. Just cold sheets twisted into knots, still damp with the metallic tang of his sweat. I let the mug steam on the nightstand. Sentimentality wasted caffeine. The lab's vault door hissed open beneath my fingerprints. Banks of monitors flickered, their screens vomiting equations Leo had scribbled in manic spirals last night. The centrifuge whirred, empty. A single glove floated in a petri dish, skin cells dissolving like sugar in tea. My reflection warped in the machine's chrome surface: a businessman's haircut, a butcher's eyes. The secret door behind the cryo-chamber yielded to pressure. Dank air rushed up the tunnel, carrying the sweetness of rotting meat. My polished shoes crushed syringes, their contents smeared across stone like neon graffiti. Halfway down, a severed hand clutch

Leah's POVI stared at the dress thrown on my bed.It spread out like a blossom of weaving lies.I'd been counting the crystals on the chandelier in the ceiling when Lucas appeared - thirty-seven of them shaped like teardrops. He filled the doorway without touching its frame, that cursed crimson fabric draped over his forearm like a skinned serpent. Sunlight caught the black embroidery. I wondered how many slaves had bled to stitch those constellations."Wear this." He tossed it onto 800 thread Egyptian cotton quilt. The silk slithered against my bare knees, colder than the iron collar I'd worn in the slave market.I waited, bathrobe clutched tight. Three heartbeats. Four. The clock above the bed - still smelling of his cologne - ticked like a dying thing. When I turned, Lucas hadn't moved. He'd claimed the wingback chair, legs spread in that infuriating mimicry of relaxation. Sunlight through the French window caught the flawless profile of his fa

  • Goodbye, my mate   Chapter 204

Leah's POVThe wind stole my scream. Or maybe I never made a sound. My body cut through the air like a rusted blade - all jagged edges and decaying purpose. Fingertips brushed cold metal, rope, the ghost of a railing that wasn't there anymore. My remaining eye watered; the hollow where the other had been throbbed in time with the seagulls' shrieks.Salt. Rotting kelp. Diesel fumes. The smells hit before the memory did.I'd done this before. Not the falling- the choosing.A bridge materialized behind my eyelids, its girders bleeding rust into black water. My palms remembered the chill of that rail, the way my bones had vibrated as trucks roared past. The sunset had looked like fire consuming a photograph, edges curling, everything reddening before the burn. That man.His face came sharper than the pain of shattered ribs. Diplomat's uniform starched to knife-edge perfection, motorcycle helmet dangling carelessly from one hand. He

  • Goodbye, my mate   Chapter 205

Lucas' POVThe harbor air clung thick with salt and diesel rot, the kind of humidity that made lungs feel like wet paper bags. I adjusted the delivery crew cap - too small, its plastic brim digging into my brow - and watched the girl mimic my motions. Her uniform sleeves hung loose, hiding arms that shouldn't have been strong enough to snap a man's spine."Steady," she murmured as the cargo ship groaned against the dock. Her voice was wind through dead leaves, a sound that made my hollow chest ache.My chest, once filled with the rhythmic pulse of life, now lies hollow and empty. What once was organic and vibrant has transformed into a void, where the girl's voice sweeps through like a gust of winter wind through a desolate graveyard.Leaning against the mast, I thought to myself-Leah's voice had been honey and wildfire. The girl's voice was neither. The gate ahead yawned like a rusted jaw, its chain-links strangled by ivy. A single red bul

Lucas' POVI was paralyzed, my mind reeling in shock. What have I done? The fire roared, its flames licking hungrily at the night sky. Leah's figure began to blur, fading into the chaos. Fear coiled around my neck like a vice, tightening with every passing second. She is Leah. My Leah.I had pushed my mate, my wife, into the inferno. And now, she was burning alive. What have I done?! How could I have been so blind, so heartless? What cruel twist of fate had the Moon Goddess cast upon me?Why?! Why did She demand I destroy my own mate, my Leah?My thoughts shattered into fragments of despair. Without hesitation, I leaped forward, charging headlong into the flames. I would rather die with Leah than live as this hollow, heartless shell. I shouldhave died long ago. But as the searing heat kissed my skin and singed

  • Goodbye, my mate   Chapter 244

Leah's POVThe sun bled out over the coastal city as Darren gunned the motorcycle through the weaving crowds, the traffic shuttling around us like a frantic pulse. I clung to him, my helmet pressing into his back, my arms locked tight around his waist, feeling the heat of his body sear through me. The sky was a mess of red and orange, spilling over the buildings like a wound, and the sea's salty stink mixed with the exhaust choking the air. Last night clawed at my mind—his hands, his mouth, his desperation sinking into me after years of waiting. We'd fucked all night, a brutal, beautiful collision that tore past every fantasy I'd nursed in the dark. It played over and over in my head, a sad, desperate reel I couldn't stop watching—every thrust, every whispered curse, every moment I'd surrendered to him. Thinking of it, I tightened my grip, my fingers digging into his leather jacket like I could claw the memory into permanence. He pulled the bike to a stop by the sea, t

  • Goodbye, my mate   Chapter 243

Liam's POVSeth caught it and sighed, theatrical as ever. "Look, we're pros here. Employers aren't people - they're NPCs in a game. Whenever I approach her, I get a new task alert. I walk up, get a quest, finish it, cash out. Done. Sure, late nights, when I'm beat, I might jerk off while looking at her before crashing - but it's all business. Nothing more, Liam."I blinked, thrown. "Wait, you jerk off over the survaillance video?"He shrugged, casual as if we were discussing the weather. "Who wouldn't? Look at her! She's a goddamn knockout. Any guy with a pulse would twitch. Doesn't mean I'd act on it."He scratched his head, squinting at the screen. "Come to think of it, I barely see her sleep. She's always on, like she doesn't need rest."That hit me like a spark. "That's exactly what I wanted to ask about," I said, leaning in, my voice low. "She's not normal, Seth. She took down two thugs with one hand - barely blinked. She's too confident, too

  • Goodbye, my mate   Chapter 242

Leah's POVNow, that hunger roared back, fueled by loss and longing. We gave in, tearing at each other, a storm of despair and need. His hands roamed my scarred flesh, rough and reverent, and I arched into him, swaying my hips, dragging it out like a ritual. Pain laced every touch, every thrust - his breath ragged, my moans breaking into sobs. We fucked like we were clawing our way out of graves, desperate to feel something beyond the wreckage of our lives.Inside, my wolf snarled, "This man is dangerous. He's lost everything for you. You're all he has. He shows up when the world burns - destiny or curse? Plus, he killed your child!"I answered her, fierce and silent, as Darren moved inside me, "This man bled for me, broke for me. He's my shield, my fate, my fucking heart. I've crawled through hell, and you never spoke to me. Why now?"My wolf went quiet, retreating, and I surrendered to him - to the ache, the heat, the ruin of us. We collapsed, spent, ta

  • Goodbye, my mate   Chapter 241

Leah's POVThe sky shattered above me, a jagged maw of chaos spitting debris like venom. But Darren was there, his arms clamping around me, fierce and unyielding, rolling me across the ground as the hulking ship model plummeted from the heavens. It crashed where we'd been, its splintered bulk clawing the earth, and I felt the tremor in my bones. Dust choked the air, a gritty veil, but all I knew was his body pressed against mine, hard and desperate, his heat searing through the cold dread coiling in my gut. When the world stilled, our eyes locked. His stare cut through the haze, sharp as a blade, stripping me raw. Memories clawed their way up—him looming over me, blood-smeared and feral, shielding me from death's jaws. Tears burned my eyes, spilling hot and relentless, carving tracks down my dust-caked face. I couldn't stop them, couldn't cage the ache ripping through me.But then I caught it - or didn't. The air around him was wrong, empty. No musk of wol

  • Goodbye, my mate   Chapter 240

Leah's POVI nodded, keeping my face smooth, blank - a perfect little mirror for the director's pride. Inside, my blood roared. These bastards had turned on Liam's father the second his body was cold, carved up his legacy, and handed it to Al Cosa on a silver platter. Everything Liam should've had—stolen. But I kept my claws sheathed, my fangs hidden. Not yet.Dinner came next, the shift announced by a waiter's clipped voice. I'd spent the earlier hours letting the deputy mayor fleece me at cards, folding my hands with a shy smile while his stack of chips grew. By the time we sat down to eat, he was rosy-cheeked and beaming, drunk on victory and wine. He clapped a meaty hand on my shoulder, his breath sour. "Leah, you've got to come to the seafood charity dinner next weekend. Big fundraiser for the Pier 16 Free Trade Zone. It'll be a hell of a show."I smiled, soft and apologetic. "I'd love to, but I'm flying to California next week. My company's got an ev

  • Goodbye, my mate   Chapter 239

Leah's POVHours bled into each other. The party grew loud, sloppy. I slipped away to the pool terrace, heels dangling from my fingers, the night air sticky with salt and regret. The water shimmered like broken glass.Josephine used to fling herself into a pool to play damsel on my wedding night to get Lucas' attention. And that happened like in my my last life. And Darren - my shadow, my sword, the man who'd bled for me in alleys and ballrooms alike. Where was he now? Dead, surely. He'd have torn the slave market apart otherwise. The champagne bubbled bitter on my tongue. A tear fell - weakness - but the night hid it."Mrs. Winters." The deputy police chief staggered over, tie undone. "You're missing the fun.""I was just admiring the view," I lied. "I was just thinking to myself, you must be very good at your job. So young for a deputy chief."His chest puffed. "Beginner's luck.""Luck favors the bold," I said, leaning clos

  • Goodbye, my mate   Chapter 238

Finn's POVI let him paw at me, a doll in his grip, his anxious eyes boring into me. It stirred something - anger, maybe, or worse, something soft I couldn't stomach. I shoved him back, sharp and sudden. "I'm fine," I snarled, turning to walk away. The flowers hit the ground behind me, petals scattering like spilled guts."Pick them up," I ordered, my tone cold.He immediately obeyed, bending down to gather the mess, his muscles flexing beneath the suit. I watched him, my mind a battlefield of desire and disgust. He was mine, bought and owned, yet with every touch, every glance, I felt like I was the one being claimed.I stepped on his back. Hard.Kairo scrambled on all fours before me, fingers trembling as they snatched at scattered petals - crimson on stone, like the blood already smearing his split lip. His haste amused me. The way his breath hitched, the way his shoulders tensed when my shadow fell over him.I let him hope for a s

  • Goodbye, my mate   Chapter 237

Finn's POVI hated clinics. It stank of antiseptic and rotting blood, a paradox that clung to my tongue like acid eating through rot. Dr. Jafar's shadow pooled beneath the flickering fluorescents as he blocked the hallway - a vulture in a stained lab coat, wings spread to guard carrion."His lungs collapse twice daily now," the doctor said, teeth yellow as old piano keys. "The machines breathe for him. You understand? No more speeches about sensative topics here."I stared at him with a blank face. "Move."The ward beyond was a cathedral of dying. Monitors chirped hymns. Tubes coiled like sacred serpents around my brother's skeletal frame. Lucas' chest rose in mechanical spasms - a marionette jerked by invisible strings. I'd seen livelier corpses in the slave pits. His hand felt paper-thin when I took it, veins mapping failures under cold skin. "Brother," I said, savoring the word's rancid sweetness.Eyelids peeled back like fresh wounds. Re

  • Goodbye, my mate   Chapter 236

Finn's POVThe dungeon stank of piss and rot, the air so thick I could taste it - bitter, sour, like the inside of a grave. A slash of crimson moonlight cut through the wall, spilling over the stone like blood from a fresh wound. My scars itched, a map of every bastard who'd torn me open and left me hollow. I needed it tonight, that sharp, searing proof I wasn't just a ghost rattling in this fucked-up shell. He was there, the slave, strung up like some beast, chains gnashing at his wrists and throat. Wolf poison hissed on his skin, blistering it raw, but he didn’t flinch. Those eyes - wild, molten - locked on me, burning with a love so desperate it could choke us both. He lunged as I got close, chains screaming, his voice a ragged snarl. "Alpha!"I saw his skin searing as it touched the chain.I tilted my head to look at the guard standing next to me.He panicked and said, "Sorry, Alpha! He has broken so many chains...
