Chapter 76

Author: Cozy Season
Inside the box lay six large, opened durians, emitting a pungent aroma.

"Whoa! Who the heck sent you a box of durians?" exclaimed Erica.

She picked up one, sniffed it, and then nodded approvingly. "These durians are good!"

Turning to the security guard, she asked, "Who sent these?"

"A gentleman asked me to deliver them," he replied.

"A gentleman?" Erica glanced at Debra and asked, "Someone else is chasing after you?"

Debra shook her head, having no idea who could have sent these durians.

In her previous life, she had few interactions with men, especially after marrying Juan.

She wondered who the sender might be.

"Tsk, sending durians to a girl? What is he thinking?" Erica remarked. "Marion is different. He never does something so silly."

Before Debra could respond, Marion called.

"Hello?"

"Did you get the stuff?" Marion asked in a serious tone.

Debra glanced at Erica and then the durians in her hand, asking tentatively, "Are these durians from you?"

"Do you like them?" Ma

Erica's voice was loud. Randy scratched his head, opened the door, and grumbled, "Who's shouting at the door early in the morning? Don't you let people sleep?"Seeing Erica outside, he thought he was mistaken. He closed the door and reopened it before confirming what he saw. He stammered, "What brings you here?"Erica pinched Randy's ear and said, "Is this how you teach Marion how to pursue a girl? You know what? If you screw things up, I'll teach you a hard lesson.""Randy, what is going on, exactly?" The decor was new, indicating that he had moved in only recently."Have a seat!" Randy gestured politely for them to sit on the sofa. The dignified CEO of the Osborne Corporation was now acti

In the evening, Erica's new real estate project was launched at the Emerald Hotel with a banquet. Erica, partly a member of the Houston family, attracted a lot of attention with this launch. Debra received an invitation and arrived in a striking aqua-blue dress, instantly becoming the center of attention."Debra!"Erica rushed over in her high heels and gave Debra a warm hug. Randy, who was holding the dress for Erica, quickly kept up."Slow down! You're still wearing heels!"Ignoring him, Erica exclaimed, "This launch is going to make me billions. Can't I celebrate?""Do as you please," Randy said, daring not to go against Erica.Debra looked around, but Marion was nowhere to be seen.Perhaps he had given up after receiving that message. That worked out just fine.Debra caught sight of a familiar figure outside the door. It was Shelia in a white dress, followed by Martin Parker, GM of the Nichols Group. He said ingratiatingly, "Mr. Nichols couldn't make it today. Let me show y

Shelia acted like a victim, tearfully accusing Debra. At school, her tears might have elicited sympathy, but here, everyone was seasoned. Her tricks were futile, and they only saw her as a clown.Only Shelia believed they'd believe her story."You're shameless!" Erica sneered. It was her first encounter with such audacity.Shelia shed tears, sobbing, "Miss Mathis, I know you dislike me, but I'm not like what you think. I made a mistake and offended you that day. I'm truly sorry. Please forgive me."Her tone was humble.Martin, the lackey, stepped forward and chimed in, "That's right. Miss Miles is highly favored by Mr. Nichols, impeccable in character. You can't believe hearsay. For Mr. Nichols's sake, please forgive Miss Miles."He glanced pointedly at Debra, unaware of her identity."Who are you? And who is Mr. Nichols to me? Why should I care about him?" Erica glared at Martin, who paled instantly. "I don't give a damn about Mr. Nichols or anyone else. I just want this wom

"I can represent Juan, and the others are not needed." Debra finally broke her silence. "If anything happens after Miss Mathis drives her away, I will take full responsibility. You don't have to worry about it, Mr. Parker."Martin snorted, "Who are you to represent Mr. Nichols?"Debra raised an eyebrow, and Erica laughed out loud. "Who is she? That's a stupid question. Are you really working at the Nichols Group? Don't you know Mrs. Nichols?"Martin was dumbfounded, unable to utter a word."Didn't Miss Miles tell you about it? Erica continued sarcastically. "This is Mrs. Nichols, and she's also the daughter of the Frazier family. By doing this, are you trying to offend her for Shelia's sake?"Erica was as straightforward as ever.Martin's expression changed several times.Debra added, "I rarely attend events with Juan, so it's understandable that you don't know me. But I do remember you, and what happened today is memorable."She stressed her tone when saying the last few words

That had to be the funniest joke Randy had heard all year.Late at night, the doors to the banquet hall burst open, despite the security guards' efforts. Several black-clad bodyguards stormed in, led by Juan in a sharp suit. His penetrating gaze made everyone hold their breath. They hadn't expected him to cause a scene there.Juan scanned the room, finally fixing his gaze on Debra and Erica."Clear the room!" he commanded, narrowing his eyes. The guests quickly left the hall."What do you think you're doing?" Erica tried to intervene, but Randy held her back.It had become the men's battleground.Randy stepped forward and questioned, "Juan, this event is held by the Mathis family. Don't you know the rules?"Ignoring him, Juan stared at Erica. "Did you kick Shelia out?""Yes, it was me. What? Seeking revenge for your lover?" Erica scoffed.Juan's anger flared. "Shelia had a car accident. She's in the hospital!"Erica froze at his words, and Randy furrowed his brow."If anyth

As the two were in a standoff, Joe rushed in from outside and urgently whispered something to Juan.Juan's expression changed. He said, "Let's go.""Yes, sir." Joe followed behind him, casting a glance at Debra with a mix of helplessness and concern.Debra frowned. "Marion, don't get involved in this."She knew something must have happened to Shelia. Otherwise, Juan wouldn't be rushing off like this.If Shelia died, Juan would really turn against her.She didn't want to drag Marion into this mess.Marion had nothing to do with it.Marion reassured her, "He wouldn't dare do anything to you.""That's right. Who does he think he is? Making such a scene here over a mistress. Does he think he can dominate Seamar City?" Erica said indignantly.Debra lamented, "We had a good launch today, and now it's ruined. I'm sorry about this.""It's not your fault. It's all because of Juan," Erica said. "I think you should just divorce him. You don't need such a man."Debra shook her head.T

"We?" Juan chuckled mockingly. "Do you mean Marion and you?"Debra frowned.Juan approached her, his steps carrying an oppressive aura. "Last time at the hotel, were you with Marion and Randy? Was Erica just covering for you? What exactly is your relationship with Marion? How far has it progressed?"He seized her wrist, his eyes boring into her. Debra instinctively shook his hand off. "Enough! I have no idea what you're talking about!"Juan looked at his hand that had been shaken off, saying, "Pray that Shelia's face can be restored.Otherwise, don't blame me for taking action against them."A scream suddenly erupted from inside Shelia's ward.Almost instinctively, Juan pushed the door open and saw Shelia smashing a glass. By the time Debra entered, Shelia had already grabbed Juan's arm, leaning into his embrace. "Am I disfigured? My face is ruined.""Alright, calm down. The doctor said you need to stabilize your emotions, or the freshly stitched wounds might reopen," Juan gentl

Juan felt a burning anger inside. "If she wants to leave, then let her go!"Shelia stopped sobbing and looked up pitifully at him. "Can I really stay at your house to recuperate?"Juan rubbed her head and replied, "I'll have Joe get your things from your dormitory. It's inconvenient to stay at school while recovering. Just stay at my house."Shelia sniffled and leaned against Juan's chest, softly saying, "Thank you, Mr. Nichols."Joe frowned, observing the scene with concern. As a bystander, Joe could see through Shelia's pretense, but Juan seemed oblivious.Debra arranged for a moving company to remove her belongings from the Nichols family's house. In the evening, Juan brought Shelia home to noticeably sparse furnishings and a somewhat desolate atmosphere. He felt a pang of discomfort.Shelia asked, "Mr. Nichols, where will I be staying?""We have guest rooms upstairs."Shelia nodded and then hesitated. "My leg hurts. I can't go up myself.""I'll help you," Juan said gent

Marion raised his hand. "Take them back."The Potter family guards moved forward. The Eaton family's bodyguards stood no chance. Their leader knew better than to fight. Debra had already spared them a bloodbath by handling this quietly. He clenched his teeth. "We'll consult Mr. Eaton Sr. If he insists, we'll come again."Marion shrugged. "Go ahead."He had accomplished his task. The rest wasn't his problem.Back at the Potter Mansion, Garland and Liza huddled together."I thought I'd be stuck eating fancy meals and shopping forever," Liza sobbed. Randy stepped forward and pushed back the man's matted hair. His eyes widened. "Holy crap! Edgar Odom?"Edgar looked much better than they last saw him. He was no longer that haggard and looked much calmer.Debra crouched in front of him. "Remember the money you owe me, Mr. Odom?"Edgar's calm shattered. He lunged, but the two bodyguards held him back down. "Don't move."Debra smirked, "Tell Mr. Eaton Sr. we appreciate the gift. This is very thoughtful.""Mr. Eaton Sr. said he might have the intel you want. But squeezing it out? That's your job.""Fair enough.""Debra, you're not actually trading him for us, are you?" Meanwhile, Liza was brought down from the second floor. The lead bodyguard asked, "Mrs. Houston, can we take Mr. Garland Eaton and Miss Eaton with us now?"Debra tilted her head. "No wonder..." Debra muttered. "She recognized me but mistook Marion for Andrew."Marion looked nothing like Andrew.Randy glanced at Marion in the rearview mirror and dodged, "My mom is confused but still worried about the Potter family. Maybe she mixed up names. Don't overthink it."Erica turned to Debra. "But that old kidnapping case involved a lot of people. Don't you remember anything?"Debra shook her head. "I was too young. Memories before eight are fuzzy. Might've lost some after a high fever."Marion chimed in, "Get over it. Did you get the ledger?""Duh." Erica pulled an account book from her jacket. "Ta-da. Who's the genius?"Randy smirked, "Nice work, burglar queen."Erica smacked his arm. "You'd still be stuck there without me.""True that," Randy grinned. Enoch slammed his teacup down. "What nonsense are you spouting? This is the head of the Houston family, not Andrew."Yvette blinked. "Not Andrew? But Debra's..." "The tea's cold," Enoch interrupted her. "Fetch a new pot."He shoved the teapot toward her. When she hesitated, he ordered a maid nearby, "Take her upstairs."Yvette reluctantly left, glancing back at Debra.Debra watched, sensing something was off."Apologies for the scene," Enoch said. "My wife hasn't been right since falling ill over a decade ago. She often rambles nonsense.""A decade ago?" Debra pounced on the details."Just an illness. Don't read into it," Enoch replied. The housekeeper approached. "Dinner is ready, sir.""Please join me for dinner." Enoch gestured, then ordered, "Go fetch Randy and Miss Mathis."Debra subtly pressed Marion's arm. He squeezed her hand to reassure her. Presumably, they had bought Randy and Erica enough time. Right on cue, the duo burst in from the backyard. Erica shot Deb

"Are you suspecting me?" Enoch's voice hardened."Not really," Debra said calmly. "But you're the only one left who knows the Four Families' secrets. We have no one else to turn to."Enoch sighed, realizing they wouldn't leave without answers. "Sit."Debra and Marion exchanged a glance before taking seats across from him.Tea was served. Enoch stirred his cup. "The Osborne family survived by staying out of dramas. Drop this obsession. The Four Great Families legend? Just a gimmick cooked up by hotheaded youngsters a century ago. There's no treasure. Stop chasing ghosts.""If there's no secret," Debra countered, "why has someone spent decades scheming, killing, and laying traps? We're not naive children, Mr. Osborne. This matters."She then pulled out a gemstone. "Recognize this?"Enoch's brow twitched.Debra had three stones: one from Melody, one from Marion, and one from Jordan.Four families should mean four stones. The Osbornes possessed the last one."We had one," Enoch a

Debra teased him, "You stick out like a sore thumb here.""I'm evolved," Randy smiled, leading them into the house. The maids were cleaning in the grand hall that resembled a museum. The shelves were crammed with antiques worth seven figures. Porcelain vases and jade carvings screamed "royalty-only" back in the day.The Osborne family might as well have hung a neon "Rob Me" sign.Debra's gaze snagged on a wall glittering with rare gemstones and uncut minerals. She drifted closer, but Randy's father emerged from a side room."You guys..." His sharp eyes swept over them.Enoch Osborne had a tall, well-built frame, his posture straight and dignified. Despite being in his fifties, the sharpness and grace of his youth still lingered in his features, hinting at the strikingly handsome man he had once been."Dad," Randy greeted him. "These are Debra, Marion, and Erica. You've met them before."Enoch ignored him, "I know these famous CEOs."His words drew a distinct line between them.

The security guard squinted at Randy. "And you are?"Randy kept up appearances. "You blind? I'm Randy Osborne."The guard stayed deadpan. "ID, please."Randy exploded. "I need an ID to enter my own freaking house?""Sorry, sir. If you're impersonating him and I let you in, I'll get fired," the guard insisted.Grumbling, Randy yanked out a wallet. "See this? Designer leather. Costs more than your salary."He flipped it open to reveal a stack of cards. "Credit cards. More than you've ever had."The guard repeated flatly, "ID, please.""I forgot my damn ID, okay?" Randy spluttered.Erica came out of the car, marched over, and slapped Randy's ID into the guard's hand. "Happy? Open the gate," she said. The guard meticulously compared Randy to the photo and pulled out a scanner. After verifying the ID wasn't fake, he finally stepped aside. "Sir and Madam, please proceed.""We've got friends," Erica added, jerking her thumb at the car.Debra and Marion stepped out.The guard c

"Huh? When?" Debra was surprised."When you were born," Randy replied. "All Four Great Families got together. You were still a baby, so you don't remember."Erica raised an eyebrow. "Didn't expect you to remember something that long ago."Randy scratched his head. "I was too young to recall much. But that banquet was the fanciest I've ever seen. Stuck in my brain. Oh, and that's when I first met Marion. Back then, he was..." Before he could finish, Marion kicked the back of his seat."Just drive and stop talking.""Alright. No kicking."Randy rubbed his sore back with one hand. Debra turned her attention to Marion."You were there the day I was born?" she asked.Randy butted in, "Of course. All four families showed up. Your family was popular back then, and your dad was the life of the party. Having a daughter was a big deal. Influential businessmen from around the globe came to celebrate it."He sighed dramatically, "Your family had its day."Though decades had passed, De

Your job is to make dinner for us."Garland's smile cracked. "That's your tough task?""Obviously. Logistics are critical," Erica grinned, turning to Randy. "Let's go. Time to revisit the home you've been dreaming about."Randy hated going home or seeing his father. He sighed, "I'm only doing this for you. If it were Marion, I'd say no."Marion shrugged. "I could just raid your ancestral hall with my men. Sounds easier.""Don't." Randy paled. "My dad can't touch you, but he'll kill me."Marion was capable of such a thing. Drake and Robert were the living examples, suffering from his betrayal. That night, Randy and Erica headed to the Osborne Mansion. As Randy drove, Erica frowned. "Why are your hands shaking?"Debra chimed in from the backseat, "The car feels wobbly.""It's me that's wobbly." Randy's lips were white. "
