Chapter 12

Only Juan would be deceived by Shelia.

Juan liked Shelia, making it hard to see through her.

"Alright, it's not a big deal. Shelia still has class today. I'll take her to school."

Juan gave Shelia a look, indicating she should leave.

Shelia looked grateful.

"Debra and I are going shopping today. Since you're not busy, come along with us," Melody said.

"But Shelia..."

"Let Joe take her back. You're the CEO of Nichols Group. Don't do anything that tarnishes your status."

Melody's words were final.

Shelia bit her lip and said, "Mr. Nichols, it's fine if Joe takes me to school. Don't upset Mrs. Nichols."

Shelia politely bowed to Melody.

But Melody didn't appreciate it.

"I'll see you off," Juan said.

Shelia nodded.

As Juan escorted Shelia out, Melody turned to Debra. "Juan is young and easily deceived by these vixens. You should be more vigilant."

Debra nodded outwardly but inwardly hoped these two would progress faster.

"I've noticed you've been putting less eff

Chapter 13Debra didn't expect Juan to believe her anyway.Quickly, Debra followed Juan into the car, and he pretended to be affectionate by holding her hand.Debra knew it was all an act in front of Melody.Juan's parents had passed away, and it was Melody who had raised him. He respected and obeyed her.Debra didn't expose the truth. Instead, she played along with Juan's act."What about that land? How do you plan to deal with it?" Melody suddenly asked. She was asking Juan.Juan, seated in the front, glanced at Debra through the rearview mirror and said, "That's bought by Debra, so she'll handle it herself."Melody looked at Debra and said, "Leave this matter to Juan. The most important thing for you is to be a good wife and mother.""Matters concerning the Nichols family are naturally handled by Juan, but this land was bought on behalf of the elders in my family. They will take care of the rest."Melody's tone softened. "In the future, stay out of such matters. Now that

Chapter 14Debra sensed Juan's stiffness and squeezed her way in.Inside, the lights were dim, and there was a candlelit dinner table in the living room.Debra was astounded.Obviously, it was Melody's idea. That explained why Melody insisted earlier that Juan take Debra home. This was her plan."Debra, you've got some nerve.""Not me."Debra wanted to explain, but Juan threw down the bags and left without looking back. But when he stepped, he found that the driver had driven away the car.Debra fully understood Melody's intention. If she and Juan didn't stay together tonight, Melody would not give up."Don't bother." Debra said, "You sleep in the living room, and I'll sleep in the bedroom."Juan gave Debra a cold look. "I warn you not to play tricks."With that, Juan walked into the house.Seeing the disgust in Juan's eyes, Debra could only laugh at herself.'This is what you get for liking Juan, Debra. Chapter 15Juan frowned, wondering why Debra was willing to give up the chance to be alone with him.In his impression, Debra would be angry if he went to see Shelia."Aren't you taking Shelia to the hospital?" she said. She hoped that Juan could leave as soon as possible. She was worried that Marion would go to bed and that Melody would play new tricks tomorrow."Enjoy your meal."Juan glanced at the neatly clean plates and felt a bit frustrated. She had gone to such great lengths to keep him at home, only to focus on eating. After Juan left, Debra took out her phone and dialed Marion's number."Hey, something's come up. I'm on my way.""No rush.""See you soon!"At the window of his office, Marion hung up his phone. On the sofa, Randy woke up and asked, "Where's Debra? It's late.""She's held up," Marion replied."For a whole day?" Randy stretched, suddenly realizing something. "Don't tell me you've been waiting here all this time."From this floor-to-ceiling window,

Chapter 16Debra was very serious. But her words were partly true. The Frazier family wasn't what it used to be, which was why Juan grew colder toward her in her last life. For Juan, their marriage was all about business. Once she lost her value, she meant nothing to him. When the Frazier family went broke, Juan abandoned her."You're going to manage your family business? Is this a joke?" Randy started, but Marion's glare cut him off.Randy quickly corrected himself, "It's not that I look down on you, but finance isn't your field. You haven't learned how to run a company. A lean camel is bigger than a horse. It's hard for a young lady like you to convince those old guys.""I know that," Debra replied."Then why do you..."Marion's warning glance made him falter. "It's just unrealistic for you to run the Frazier Group.""It's my grandfather's legacy. I must preserve it. Although I haven't formally studied, I have a plan.""What plan?""I'll go to school.""School?"Randy w

Chapter 17Juan stayed at the hospital with Shelia overnight. In the morning, he received a call from Joe. "What entrance exam?""The school office called today, saying that Mrs. Nichols's name was on the examinees' list. They wanted to ask if Mrs. Nichols had informed you."Debra was shopping with Melody last night. Juan wondered when she signed up for the exam."I see."Juan hung up, his expression tense. He didn't know what games Debra was playing again."Was it the school calling? Maybe I should go back to class."Shelia, lying on the hospital bed, woke up at some point."I've informed Joe and the school. You should rest in the hospital today. It's not about you anyway.""What is it about then?"Shelia looked at Juan in confusion.Juan only sponsored her at school."Debra." Juan rubbed his forehead. "I'll go back. Take a rest."Shelia nodded. After Juan left, she murmured, "Debra? What does she have to do with the school?"Debra was strolling around Arcane Academy.

Chapter 18Shelia bit her lip. Driven by vanity, she'd lied about Juan being her boyfriend, fearing ridicule from her roommates if exposed.Torn, she sent a message. [I see. Don't worry. I trust my boyfriend's character.]She got off the bed and said to the nurse outside, "Hello, I'm checking out."Outside Arcane Academy, Debra found herself in Juan's car."Explain yourself," Juan demanded."I want to study finance at Arcane Academy," she confessed."I won't allow it.""Why not?""Because I'm your husband," Juan said coldly. "Do you think I don't know your scheme?""What are you talking about?""You followed Shelia here, intending to harass her!""I'm not that petty.""You copied Shelia's style. It's okay, but this is too much. As I said, you are my wife. No one is going to replace you.""No one? He won't be stolen by that kind of woman," Carrie said."Thank you for your concern, guys. Don't worry. My boyfriend and I will be fine," Shelia smiled."I heard that woman is coming to our school to study finance. I guess she's coming after you," Wendy said."What?" Shelia was taken aback. She found it hard to believe."It's true. I asked some students from the admissions office. She was accompanied by the president and vice-president, obviously from a wealthy family. Probably trying to use connections," Wendy explained."What's her identity then? Chapter 20Today was the day of Debra's entrance exam. In his office, Juan glanced at the time on his computer and asked, "Has Debra gone to the exam?""Mrs. Nichols left early this morning. By now, she should have already entered the exam room," Joe replied.Juan nodded. "Did you inform the principal?""I did, but...""But what?""The principal said since Mrs. Nichols is taking the graduate entrance exam, there's no need for interference. He believes she won't pass.""Graduate exam?"Juan had thought Debra was taking the college entrance exam.He believed that Debra must be out of her mind."Let her be," Juan said indifferently.Debra could embarrass herself as she liked.Debra arrived at the exam room. She was the youngest one there, catching the examiners' attention. Most of the examinees were finance professionals nearing their thirties, some of whom Debra had seen on TV. It showed the college's reputation in finance education.Shelia lingered in the hallway of the te

Debra tactfully suggested, "Your influence in Orkgate is undeniable, but sometimes you can be a bit misguided. Why don't we...""No. I'm doing this alone," Drake refused, heading toward his study.Debra was speechless. If Drake took things into his hands, Orkgate would be turned upside down. If he stirred the pot too much, the target would surely flee the city. She couldn't let him act so recklessly.Kale had just escorted Garland and Liza to the guest room.Seeing Drake return, he asked, "Boss, are you sure about letting them stay here?""Why not? It's not like we're short on guest rooms," Drake replied dismissively. He then ordered, "I need you to gather information on every business in Orkgate, big or small, whether they're our partners or not. Get their details and map out their network. Don't miss a thing."Kale blinked. "Every business? And their network?"Orkgate was vast and bustling, with countless businesses. Compiling all that information would take weeks, even with

That was a jab at his intelligence.Drake sulked, "Who are you insulting? Of course, I noticed.""You did?" Debra said. "I thought you were scared of Fermin's status, so you didn't kick them out.""I was just being kind for your sake," Drake stated. "If they were not your friends, I would have kicked them out long ago."Unhappy about her challenge, Drake turned to leave.Debra quickly stopped him. "Take it easy. I was just kidding. I'm sorry, okay?""It's too late. Apology unaccepted," Drake scoffed, shaking off her hand. But then, something occurred to him, and he asked, "Wait. You'd never apologize to me for no good reason. What do you want?""Well, I need a favor," she replied."No way." Drake covered his ears. "Whenever you come to me, it's never for anything good. I've already been more than generous in letting you and Marion stay here. Don't push your luck.""I won't be so absolute." Debra swatted his hands away from his ears. "Isn't Orkgate your territory? "You've misunderstood. That's not what I meant," Debra explained."I think that's exactly what you meant," Drake interrupted. "You can forget about it. Since I've already agreed to let Marion recuperate here, you're not backing out. None of you are leaving until Marion fully recovers."He turned to Kale and ordered, "Go prepare rooms for Miss and Mr. Eaton. We're not short of guest rooms."His gaze shifted to Debra, his tone dropping to a menacing warning. "Make sure they behave themselves in my house."Debra reassured him, "Don't worry. We're all nice people here."Liza rolled her eyes, uninterested in the exchange. As long as there was good food and fun, she couldn't care less about the rest. But Garland's expression tightened with discomfort. If he stayed there, it would be difficult for him to update Juan on Debra's situation. It had already been days, and Debra still hadn't gone back. Behind Liza, Drake spoke up. "That's right. Who would dare lay a hand on Miss Eaton? That would be suicide."Liza crowed, "Tell me about it."Drake's eyes grew even colder. Debra, aware of Drake's disdain for the arrogant heirs of wealthy families, feared he might lose his temper. She quickly intervened, "Mr. Lowe is kind enough to take us in, and he was once engaged to you. You should be more polite.""Exactly," Garland chimed in. "You should learn from Mrs. Houston and be humbler."Liza was unimpressed. "But Dad said a girl should be tough and not let anyone push her around. Should I listen to you or Dad?"Garland was at a loss for words. From a young age, Bert spoiled Liza, giving her the best of everything and ensuring she never faced any hardship. This upbringing had made her arrogant and willful, believing her family name could protect her from anything. It had, except for that one time when she helped Cathryn and incurred Marion's wrath. In fact, Bert was contemplating w

Liza ignored Garland and said, "I don't believe it. Bring them here."Not interested in arguing with her, Drake said, "They're upstairs. Go find them yourself."Garland hadn't expected Drake to be so accommodating this time. He grabbed Liza's arm and urged, "Let's go upstairs."Liza remained skeptical as she headed upstairs. Drake couldn't stand the sight of her and walked back to his study. Not knowing where Debra was staying, Liza asked Kale, "Which room are Debra and Marion in?"Having been insulted by her earlier, Kale shrugged. "Can't recall the room number. You'll have to figure it out yourself.""Is this how you treat your guests? If my brother is mad, you're in trouble."Garland's eyes widened, and he groaned inwardly, 'Making trouble for Drake? That's suicidal.'"Liza, calm down. You can't go around threatening people." Garland forced a smile, trying to ease the tension. "The second floor isn't that big. It won't take us much time to find out."He then dragged her tow

"What do you mean my chef can't make fish soup?" Drake was confused. Then he realized that Kale must be behind this. His face darkened as he called out, "Kale, come in."Kale knew he couldn't keep this a secret for long, but he hadn't expected it to be exposed so quickly. With his head down, he entered the room. "Boss.""What's going on with this fish soup?" Drake demanded."I saw how you craved the soup, so I asked Mrs. Houston to make it.""And you used my name?""Yes."Drake wanted to curse, but with Debra still around, he held back."Get out."Kale turned to leave when Drake called out again, "You too."Debra was speechless, but she hadn't planned to stay anyway.Watching her go, Drake felt a heaviness in his chest. Kale, already at the door, tried to reason, "Boss, actually...""Shut up and get out!"Kale quietly closed the study door behind him.Suddenly, an angry voice rang out. "Where is he? Kale tossed the fish onto the cutting board.Debra laughed, "What's going on? Running out of chefs?""We have chefs," Kale replied without missing a beat, "but none of them know how to make carp soup.""It's simple to make. What kind of chefs are they?" Debra reasoned."I'll come back for it in half an hour. Thank you for your help," Kale said, leaving the kitchen.Their whole exchange was simple and dry. Debra looked down at the fish and shook her head.Time passed, and eventually, Kale returned as promised. Debra, having simmered the soup for 20 minutes, handed him the steaming pot."There you go. But fish soup is a bit too nutritious for breakfast," she said."Thank you for your concern, Mrs. Houston," Kale said, his tone oddly formal. He quickly took the soup upstairs.Upstairs, Drake glanced at the fish soup and asked, "What's this?""Fish soup made by Mrs. Houston," Kale replied."Debra? She made this for me?" Drake raised an eyebrow. "Since when is she so kind to me?

"Why is that?" Debra asked."I've grown used to life here. If I leave, I don't know where I'll go or if I'll find work. I don't even know where I'll live," Lara replied. "Mrs. Houston, you're right. I never sought revenge because, deep down, I'm selfish. If Drake dies, I'll lose the stable life I have now. I don't dare to face the uncertainties of the future."Debra nodded knowingly. It was hard to go from extravagance to frugality. If one had seen much of the world, they couldn't go back to being a frog in a well.Even though Drake kept Lara by his side for his purposes, she had enjoyed luxuries that ordinary people couldn't dream of.Despite being a maid, Lara ate gourmet meals, lived in a nice room, and witnessed the extravagant lifestyle of the upper class. She didn't have anyone to rely on and had no good education. Leaving Drake would only make her homeless. From the beginning, she and Drake had a mutually beneficial relationship. There was nothing to hate about it."It's

Kale explained, "The only place open for delivery at this hour was a small joint, and the soup has gone cold in the chilly weather. Kale picked up the fish soup and dumped it back into the bag.Drake stared at the documents on his desk, muttering, "A pampered lady knows how to make soup. What a surprise!"Then he suddenly remembered that Debra not only knew how to make soup but was also good at playing the piano, dancing, and manipulating people. It had been almost a year since they first met. He had kidnapped Debra multiple times but had never gained any advantage. Instead, he had lost a lot."She's my nemesis," he declared seriously. If Debra wasn't his nemesis, she couldn't have played him like a fool.
