AVA'S POV

The moment Laura walked out of the dining area, the room grew quiet, but the silence didn’t last long. Everyone’s attention turned to me. I could feel their eyes on me some envious, some whispering to the person beside them.

"So Ava is the CEO's wife? OMG! That's so shocking. She's so lucky," a colleague whispered to the next person sitting beside her.

I'm not sure how I even heard that since they were whispering but somehow I did. It's one of those strange things about me being able to hear whispers that no one else can.

But no, she was wrong. I wasn't lucky at all. I thought I was but the past few months have made me realize I wasn't.

Their stares felt heavier than ever, making me want to shrink into my chair.

Jason's eyes met mine for a brief moment but I quickly looked away. Wait... was this what he meant by proving he loves me? Announcing our marriage now?

It was too late. His words didn’t mean anything to me anymore. Nothing he did could change my mind.

AVA’S POV I ignored him and walked past him with steady steps. Sally stayed right beside me. I could feel his eyes on my back, heavy and intense, but I refused to turn around. A few months ago, I would have hesitated, unsure of how to act around him, afraid of upsetting him. But not anymore. I had accepted things as they were. Jason could stare all he wanted, but I wasn’t going to react the way he expected. As we reached the volleyball area, the sound of laughter and cheering filled the air. The golden sand was warm beneath my feet, and for a moment, the lively atmosphere made me feel lighter. “Ava.” I looked up to see Alex approaching with a relaxed expression and a smile etched on his face. “How are you feeling?” he asked, his voice warm with concern. “Are you okay now?” I tilted my head slightly, surprised by his question. I didn’t remember telling him anything was wrong with me. But then I recalled – at the cocktail party, he had noticed how tense I was, and I had

JASON'S POV I stood there, frozen, my hands clenched into fists at my sides. I couldn’t believe what had just happened. Ava my wife had yelled at me in front of everyone – in front of my employees. Not just yelled at me, but looked at me like I was nothing like I had done something unforgivable. And all because of Alex Grey. I could still see it so clearly. The way she rushed to his side, the way she touched him, the way she helped him up like he was the only one that mattered. And worst of all she didn’t even look back at me. How could she tend to another man that way in my presence? I had just revealed to everyone that she was my wife and she does this in front of the same people I just told about our marriage. Lines creased my forehead as anger boiled beneath my skin. The whispers around me were getting louder, but I couldn’t make out the words. I didn’t need to. I knew what they were saying. I gritted my teeth, my jaw tightening. I wanted to shut them all up, to make the

AVA'S POV I walked back to the beach with Alex and Sally after helping Alex with his injury. My heart still felt heavy from what had happened earlier. I knew Jason had deliberately hit the ball so hard towards Alex to hurt him, and I had a feeling it was because of me. That's why I felt responsible for making sure he got treated. But now, as I glanced at Alex beside me, I could see he was still in pain, even though he tried to act fine. “You really should be in bed resting,” I said, frowning at him. “I told you to stay back.” Alex chuckled lightly, shaking his head. “And miss all the fun? Nahhh...I’ll be fine, Ava.” I sighed, knowing there was no point in arguing. He was stubborn, just like Jason. But at least Alex listened sometimes. Jason… Jason only does what he wants, without listening to anyone. The crowd on the beach was still gathered around, some playing, some talking while others were relaxing and enjoying the cool ocean breeze. Alex excused himself and went to joi

ALEX'S POV I didn't think. I didn't hesitate. The moment I saw Ava collapse I ran, ignoring the pain still aching from the impact of the ball Jason threw at me. She lay motionless on the ground and my heart stopped. She was pregnant...I knew she was pregnant. And now, with everything that had just happened, I couldn’t stop the fear that gripped me. I was scared for her. I was scared for the baby. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw Jason. He had walked right past Ava, leaving her on the ground like she didn’t matter with Laura in his arms. Who does that? Ava was his wife – his wife! And yet, he left her lying there like she was nothing. My jaw clenched. How could he see her on the ground like this and still choose Laura? I couldn’t make sense of it. Ava had told me Jason didn’t know about the baby. But even so, it didn’t explain why he’d left his wife behind, lying on the sand, and rushed to tend to Laura. Even now I wouldn't be surprised if Laura was pretending to be

AVA'S POVI felt a dull throbbing ache in my head as I slowly opened my eyes. My body felt heavy as if I had been asleep for days. The bright lights stung my vision, making me blink a few times before my surroundings became clear – I was at the hospital. The first thing I saw was Alex. He was sitting beside my bed, his elbows resting on his knees, his hands folded together. His face was tense, his eyes dark with worry. He looked like he hadn’t moved for hours. My throat felt dry, and I swallowed hard before speaking. “Alex…” My voice was weak, barely above a whisper. His head snapped up the moment he heard me. He let out a deep breath of relief and his shoulders fell as he leaned closer. “Ava… You’re awake,” he said, his voice filled with emotion. I tried to sit up, but a sharp pain shot through my stomach, making me wince. “Careful,” Alex said, reaching out to help me. “Don’t push yourself too much.” Before I could say anything else, the door burst open, and Sally came in

AVA'S POV Jason’s words rang in my ears. My breath caught in my throat, and my fingers tightened around the phone, while the other hand dug deep into the hospital sheets. Owe Laura an apology? For what? I lost my baby. My child was gone forever. And he had the audacity to call me and demand that I apologize to Laura? “Laura almost lost her child because of you, Ava,” he continued, both his voice and his words piercing my soul. “You should do the right thing and apologize to her.” Laura almost lost her child. Almost. But I lost mine. I lost my baby. Why should I be the one to apologize when I did nothing to her? She was the one who bumped into me on the volleyball court and fell. I didn’t touch her, I didn’t push her. I was the one the ball hit hard on the belly, not her. So why should I apologize? And somehow, she was at fault. If she had stuck to her position on the court, maybe all of this could have been avoided. But I didn’t blame her because I knew it was an accid

JASON'S POV The moment Ava barged into my office, I knew something was wrong. She didn’t knock. She didn’t wait for permission which was so unlike her. She just walked in like she didn’t care about anything or anyone anymore. It had been days since I last heard from her. Since I last saw her. The last time was at Kevin's hotel and after that day she went MIA. Even the last time I spoke to her on the phone, she hung up in my ears. I was worried because she looked… different. Her face was pale like all the blood in her body had been drained, her eyes empty, her shoulders stiff. There was something cold about her and it caused my heart to ache. What happened to her? For a brief second, I thought she had come to apologize to Laura, finally saying the words she should have said days ago. But then she pulled out a paper from her bag and dropped it right in front of me. I frowned and picked it up. One glance at the bold letters at the top, and my heart skipped a beat. "Resign

AVA’S POVIt had been days since I walked out of Jason’s office. Now, I stood outside his house, staring at the door, my stomach twisting into knots. I shouldn't be here, I know. I didn’t even want to be here. I had sworn never to come back. But I had no choice. When I packed my things after finding out Jason could walk and was pretending, I was pissed and left in such a hurry that I forgot to take along some important documents – designs I had worked on for weeks. They weren’t just replaceable papers so I couldn't abandon them. I needed them. That was the only reason I was standing here, forcing myself to take a deep breath and ring the doorbell.Still, I hesitated.Going back inside felt like reopening a wound that hadn’t even started to heal. The memories of Jason, of everything we had, of everything I lost they were all waiting for me behind that door.I would have asked Sally to help me get the documents instead of coming myself but only I knew where exactly they were. I had hid

LAURA'S POVA small smirk played on my lips as I read the message on my phone. “It’s done.” Two simple words, but they made my body relax. Finally, that loose end had been taken care of. Sandra Miller was dead. I had no interest in killing her but when someone became a threat, they had to be removed. It was just common sense. If she had done her job and disappeared, she would still be breathing. But no, she had been caught, and I couldn’t risk her opening that stupid mouth of hers to expose me. So, I did what had to be done. I put my phone away, my fingers tightened around it for a moment. I had been worried when I first heard her identity had been discovered, but I should have known better. Riper never failed me. Riper had been my family’s loyal dog for years. My parents had trusted him with the dirtiest work, and he never asked questions. After they died, he had been handling their illegal businesses overseas. He only just returned, and I wasted no time putting him to

ALEX'S POV I didn’t know how long I had been sitting at Ava's bedside, but it felt like an eternity. The rhythmic beeping of the monitor was the only sound in the room, aside from the occasional footsteps of nurses passing by. If I'm not mistaken this should be the third time Ava has been hospitalized, and I am always the first one by her side. It made me feel somehow special. Jason left earlier because he knew Ava wouldn’t want to see him when she regained consciousness. Before leaving, he told me to take good care of her. He also reminded me that he hasn’t given up on Ava and will still try to win her back. I scoffed to myself. Jason could say all he wanted, but I wasn't sure if Ava would ever forgive him. And honestly, I didn't want her to. My eyes remained fixed on Ava, her face pale against the stark white hospital sheets. Even in sleep, she looked exhausted but still beautiful. My fingers curled into a fist on my lap. The image of her lying unconscious, poisoned by som

JASON'S POVA call came in just as I was reviewing some documents in my office. Even though I was working, my mind kept drifting back to when Ava chased me out of her hospital room. When I glanced at the screen, I saw the Royal Crest hospital director’s name flashing. I answered immediately. “What is it?” “Mr. Campbell, your wife has been poisoned. She’s in critical condition at the hospital.” For a second, I didn’t process what he said. My grip on the phone tightened. “What?” My voice came out louder than I intended. “A nurse changed her fluid bag. We’re still investigating, but she was rushed into emergency care. It doesn’t look good.” The breath I was holding left me in a sharp exhale. My chest tightened. My mind screamed at me to move, but I was frozen in place for a split second. Then I shot up from my chair, grabbed my car keys, and stormed out of the office without another word. I didn’t care about work. I didn’t care about the meetings I had scheduled. I didn’t c

ALEX’S POV I watched as Carter’s fingers moved fast on the keyboard, searching the system. He pulled up the access records, scrolling through the list of employees who entered the VIP ward at that time. I stood behind him, my body tense, my hands curled into fists. My eyes stayed glued to the screen, waiting for something, anything that could tell us who she was. Then, a name popped up. “There,” Carter pointed. “An entry at the exact time she walked in.” Sandra Miller. I frowned. That was her real name? Why would she use her actual hospital ID to swipe into the VIP area? If she was trying to poison Ava, wouldn’t she at least try to hide her identity? That only meant one thing – she was an amateur. Carter clicked on her profile. A hospital ID photo appeared on the screen. A woman with brown hair tied in a ponytail, green eyes, and a neutral expression stared back at us. She looked ordinary. Just another nurse. I clenched my jaw. But she wasn’t just another nurse. Cart

ALEX'S POV As I reached the entrance, a security officer swiped his ID card to enter. Before the door could shut, I slipped in right behind him. “Hey! You can’t be in here..." He yelled, trying to stop me. I ignored the startled officer and quickly moved forward, my eyes scanning the room. The security office was large, and rows of monitors covered the walls, displaying live footage from different parts of the hospital. Several officers sat at their desks, watching the screens, talking in low voices, monitoring every corner of the building. The air smelled of strong coffee and electronics, giving the room a tense, focused atmosphere. But right now, no one in this room knew the chaos happening in the emergency ward. I slammed my hands on the desk, making a young security officer jump. “I need to see the CCTV footage of VIP room 1005. Now.” The officer blinked at me in confusion then frowned. “Sir, you can't just barge in here and we can’t just give access to..." I grit

ALEX'S POV I walked down the quiet hospital hallway, my footsteps echoing against the cold floor. I came to see Ava since I left in such a hurry the last time. As I neared her ward, I noticed a nurse walking out of her room. She wore a nose mask and moved quickly, her head slightly lowered, as if she didn’t want to be noticed. For a second, I frowned. Something about her seemed off. My guts told me to stop her but I shook the thought away. Maybe she was just in a hurry. It wasn’t unusual for hospital staff to be busy. I pushed the door open and stepped inside and then my heart stopped. Ava was convulsing. Her body jerked violently against the bed, her fingers twitching uncontrollably. The IV stand rattled beside her. Her lips parted as if she was gasping for air, but no sound came out. Her face was pale – too pale. Panic slammed into my chest like a sledgehammer. “Ava!” I shouted, rushing to her side. My heart was pounding so loudly, that I could barely think. Her e

AVA’S POV Grandpa’s words kept repeating in my head even after he left. “Over my dead body will Laura become Mrs. Campbell.” My chest tightened. He had always been good to me and always treated me like family. But hearing him say that… made me realize how much he truly cared about my feelings. Before leaving, he took out a small container from the bag his driver held and placed it on my bedside table. “I brought you some supplements,” he said in a calm voice. “You’re weak right now, Ava. Take care of yourself.” A lump formed in my throat. Even after everything I had lost, even after knowing I wouldn't be with Jason anymore, he was still here, still thinking about me. Still treating me like I mattered. I blinked back my tears. “Thank you, Grandpa,” I whispered. He hesitated for a moment, then reached into his coat pocket. When he pulled his hand out, I froze. The bracelet. The same bracelet I had returned to him just now. Confused, I looked up at him. “You don’t h

LAURA'S POV Sitting in my pathetic hospital bed, I clenched my fists so tightly that my nails dug into my palms. The dull white walls of this cheap room suffocated me. Sleeping here last night made my anger rise I didn’t belong here. I should be in the VIP ward, pampered and cared for. I should be the one everyone was visiting. But instead, I was rotting here alone. No one had come to see me. Not a single soul, not even Jason. But Ava? That wretched woman? She was basking in the attention. She had a lot of people by her side but I had no one. A knock on the door made me snap my head up. One of the nurses I had paid handsomely to keep an eye on Ava and report back to me slipped inside. Her gaze flickered with hesitation, but I didn’t care about her nerves. I wanted information. “Well?” I snapped, sitting up straighter. The nurse swallowed before speaking. “Mr. Campbell came to visit her, but she didn’t let him in.” I froze. “What?” I hissed, my hands gripping the shee

AVA'S POV He stood at the doorway, his usual proud posture stiff, his wrinkled face filled with shock. His eyes, piercing and wise, slowly scanned me from head to toe as if trying to process what he was seeing. I felt the tight lump in my throat grow bigger. I had always tried to keep my emotions in check, and always tried to stay strong in front of people. But at that moment, seeing Grandpa, someone who had always treated me with so much kindness, all my walls broke down. Tears blurred my vision before I could even think to stop them. “G-Grandpa…” My voice cracked, weak, and trembling. His eyes softened immediately. He stepped forward, his cane tapping lightly against the floor. His driver followed behind him, carrying a small bag, but I barely noticed. Grandpa reached my bedside and sat down carefully. The moment he was close, I couldn’t hold it in anymore. I burst into tears. My shoulders shook as I sobbed uncontrollably. It wasn’t just sadness, it was everything.
