AVA’S POV

I slowly opened my eyes in an unfamiliar environment. The bright light above made my head throb, and I blinked, trying to focus. My heart raced as memories from the accident came rushing back.

Jason… He had stepped in front of the car to save me.

I tried to sit up, but my body ached, and I noticed an IV in my arm. I was in a hospital bed. The nurse standing beside me smiled softly. “Miss, you're awake,” she said, her voice calm.

Noticing the look of worry on my face, she said "You’re safe, and so is your baby. There's no need to be worried.”

I blinked, the words slowly sinking in. My baby… and I was okay. But Jason… My eyes filled with tears as I remember Jason lying in a pool of his own blood.

"What about the man? I'm sure he was brought here with me. How is he, nurse?" I asked in a quiet voice, laced with fear.

I prayed silently that nothing serious had happened to Jason because I didn't think I could live with myself if it had.

The nurse’s smile faded a little

LAURA'S POV The moment Grandpa’s angry words left his lips, my chest tightened, but I forced my face to remain calm. I could feel his eyes boring into me as he asked again, “Laura, didn't you hear me? How did you know about this? Who told you?” I swallowed hard, trying to look upset and worried instead of guilty. My hand tightened around Jason’s limp one, the sight of him hooked to those machines made my heart race. Not with worry for him – but for myself. If Grandpa finds out that I was the reason his favorite grandson is lying here unconscious – I'm finished. He might not have reacted when I left him in Jason's office struggling to get his pills but when it comes to Jason Grandpa would bury me ten feet deep. I lowered my gaze, pretending to be hurt by his tone. “I… I just wanted to see him,” I whispered, my voice shaking. “When I heard about the accident, I couldn’t stay away. Jason means so much to me…” Grandpa’s glare didn’t soften and I knew he wasn’t buying it. “I as

AVA’S POV It had been three days since the accident, and Jason was still unconscious. Every moment felt like it lasted forever. Even the driver who had caused the accident still hadn't been found. I sat by Jason's bed, my fingers shaking as I touched the back of his hand. It felt cold, lifeless – so different from the Jason I knew. The beeping of the machines filled the room, reminding me how close I came to losing him. To losing the father of my unborn child. Guilt pressed down on me. The accident kept replaying in my mind, no matter how hard I tried to forget it. If it wasn’t for me… if I hadn’t stormed out of the civil affairs bureau, Jason wouldn’t be lying lifeless here now. I lowered my head, and tears came before I could stop them. “I’m sorry,” I whispered, my voice so quiet. “I’m so, so sorry, Jason.” As tears fell down my face, I felt a soft touch on my head. I froze in surprise, then looked up slowly. Jason’s eyes were open, still blurry but clearly awake. His

AVA’S POV For a moment I couldn't breathe. It was like everything around me had frozen. Welcome home! Was she… was she staying in Jason’s Villa now? I could feel my hands gripping the wheelchair tighter. My chest tightened as the thought took over my mind. So, he couldn't even wait for us to fully divorce before bringing her in. I wasn't angry I had already come to terms with the fact that Laura would always be involved in Jason's life. I was just disappointed. But Jason’s voice broke through my racing thoughts. “What are you doing here, Laura?” His tone wasn’t warm or welcoming, just tired. I blinked, surprised. He didn’t sound like someone who had invited her. Laura’s well-rehearsed smile didn’t falter as she stepped aside, holding the door open for us. “I heard you insisted on being discharged today,” she said smoothly. “I thought I’d come and help. I even cooked for you.” Help? Cook? What a good Samaritan she was pretending to be!"Besides, how did she know he in

JASON'S POV The room felt suffocated like all the air had been sucked out. My chest tightened as I looked at Laura. She stood there, arms crossed, with a bitter smile on her face. I couldn't believe she could ask me to choose between her and Ava. As much as I care for her, I couldn't choose her over Ava. I had even purposely asked to be discharged from the hospital so that I could create an opportunity for Ava to come back home with me using the excuse that she needed to take care of me because I almost died saving her. It's not that I blame her for the accident, I would willingly risk my life to save her over and over again. I just needed her close to me again and wanted to make her change her mind about divorcing me. And now Laura was asking me to make a choice? It should be very obvious to her who I would choose but that's Laura for you always gambling chances. Since she was the one who suggested I make a choice she shouldn't be pissed with the choice I'd be making and

AVA'S POV It had been a week since Jason was discharged from the hospital, yet he still relied on the wheelchair. The doctor had made it clear that nothing was wrong with his legs anymore. But Jason continued to act as if he couldn’t walk. At first, I wanted to believe there was a valid reason for his behavior that maybe he still couldn't feel his legs, but as the days went by, doubt began to creep in. What if this was just a game and he was pretending to make me stay here with him longer? I couldn’t sit by and let him lie to me any longer. I had to know the truth so I devised a plan. Early that morning, I walked into the kitchen where Nina, a newly hired maid who had started working for Jason after I left him to stay with Sally, was preparing breakfast. Jason was still fast asleep in his room. “Nina,” I said softly, keeping my tone casual and low – not that Jason would be able to hear me from his room though. “Yes, ma’am?” she answered, turning away from the sink to face

AVA'S POV "You're walking," I interrupted him, my voice icy. "Ava, I..." "Don't you dare," I yelled, stepping closer. "You've been lying this whole time, haven't you?" Jason sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "It's not what you think..." "Then explain it to me!" I cut him off, my voice rising. "The doctor said you were fine, Jason. So why the wheelchair? Why the act?" I could barely look at him as he tried to explain himself. His voice sounded desperate, but I wasn’t interested in hearing any more excuses. “Ava, I didn’t mean to lie about my recovery,” he said, his eyes filled with something I couldn’t quite place guilt maybe. “I just didn’t want you to leave me. I didn’t want you to think I didn’t need you anymore." His words hung in the air, but they didn’t reach me. I couldn’t hear him, not over the pounding in my head. All I could think about was how he had kept me in this house, playing on my feelings, making me care for him when all along, he was perfectly f

AVA’S POV The annual company activity day was here again. It was a day most employees of Campbell Group look forward to. This tradition had been in place long before Jason became the CEO and it was something everyone anticipated every year. Normally, I would have been excited about some days away from the usual hustle and bustle, but not this time. This year, the company was heading to the Sheraton Hotel, one of the biggest hotels in the City. The hotel was famous for its breathtaking ocean views, but what made it more interesting was that it was owned by Kevin. Ever since I walked out of Jason’s house, I’d avoided him as much as I could. At work, I only spoke to him when it was strictly business, and even then, I kept our interactions short. He had tried several times to reach out to me, but I refused to listen. He knew better than to involve Sally, as she would speak to him rudely, even though he was our boss. Laura, of course, was thrilled. I could see it in her smu

JASON’S POV My heart skipped a beat when Ava entered the ballroom and our eyes locked. She looked away almost immediately, but I couldn't take my eyes off her. She was looking nothing short of stunning. The way her black dress hugged her body, and the way her hair flowed down her shoulders made everything inside of me tense. My heart raced. She wasn’t just beautiful, she was perfection. It was like she’d stepped out of a dream, and I couldn’t breathe. But there was something else in me too. Something dark. I hated how my chest tightened every time I saw her looking at someone else, laughing with someone else. It was like a constant ache, a reminder of how I’d lost her. I stood there, watching her take it all in, her eyes scanning the room. Then, I saw it. She smiled. But not at me. She looked shocked at first as if she hadn’t expected to see the person here. I followed her gaze, and it wasn’t hard to figure out who she was looking at. It was Alex. I couldn’t stop th

AVA'S POV I got home earlier than usual that evening. Work was still piled up, but my head wasn’t in it today. Not after that call from Alex. He’d said he was planning to take Emma and Mason to the amusement park tomorrow. Then he’d asked, casually, if I wanted to come too. I said no before I even thought it through. I wasn’t trying to spend a day riding rollercoasters with Alex pretending things were fine. But Emma somehow knew about it. I didn't know how. I was in the kitchen, pouring a glass of water, when she walked in with her bunny tucked under her arm. “Why aren’t you going?” she asked, her little voice full of disappointment. I froze. “Going where?""To the amusement park with me, Mason, and Uncle Alex tomorrow." She replied, pouting.I let out a deep breath. "Sweetheart, I just have work..." “I want you to come too,” she said, her face scrunching up the way it always did when she was about to cry. “It won’t be fun without you.” And just like that, my heart melt

AVA’S POVThe guy bent down and picked up my purse before I could even react. His hand brushed mine as he handed it to me, and when I looked up, I froze for half a second. He was… strikingly handsome. Clean-cut, fresh face, probably just out of college or something. Definitely younger. Way younger. “Sorry about that,” I said quickly, my face warming a little. I was used to strikingly good-looking guys like Jason and Alex, but there was something different about his young blood charm. And he scented heavenly. “No problem,” he smiled. “Are you okay?” “Yeah. Thanks,” I said, brushing imaginary dust off my bag. He nodded politely and walked off, and I stood there for a second, wondering if I’d imagined the whole thing. I hadn’t. But the moment passed, and I turned around and headed back to our table. Sally had already finished eating or at least she’d stopped trying to stuff her face with food. “You good?” she asked, eyebrows raised. “Yeah. Just bumped into someone,” I r

  • Goodbye, Ex-Husband, Next Please   CHAPTER 0164

AVA’S POV I looked away the moment Alex stood up and began walking toward us, after saying a few words to the woman he was dining with probably asking her to excuse him for a moment. Sally had just taken another bite of her food when she noticed the change in my expression. I didn’t say anything. I didn’t need to. She had been my friend for so long that she could read me like the back of her hand. So she could easily know when something was off with me. A few seconds later, Alex was at our table. “Hey ladies,” he said, his voice even, but his eyes flickered from me to Sally and back again. “Didn’t expect to see you both here.” I gave him a polite smile. “You too.” "I can see you're here with a lady," Sally winked at him. Alex cleared his throat slightly. "It's not what you think Sally. And yes, I’m here with a friend,” he said. “She just got back into the country. So I decided to give her a treat." I nodded once. “That’s nice.” His eyes remained on me for a second long

  • Goodbye, Ex-Husband, Next Please   CHAPTER 0163

AVA'S POVI slept better last night than I have in some days. Not the kind of restless sleep I’d been getting lately, where I wake up halfway through the night and stare at the ceiling, wondering what else could go wrong. No. This was a real sleep. The kind where your body finally gives in. The kind where, for a few hours, your brain stops fighting you. It wasn’t until I heard the soft patter of feet and a little voice say, “Aunty?” that I finally stirred. I opened my eyes and saw Emma standing at the edge of my bed, holding her little stuffed bunny by one ear. Her hair was messy, her face still puffy from sleep. “I didn’t see you all day yesterday,” she said quietly, her bottom lip poking out. God. My heart squeezed. I had left early yesterday and came home late last night tired. I sat up and reached for her. “I know, baby. I’m so sorry. Come here.” She climbed into my arms without hesitation and buried her face into my neck. Just that one sentence – just those few w

LAURA’S POVI slammed the front door so hard the wall shook. “That bitch,” I muttered under my breath, heels clicking across the marble. “That goddamn bitch.”Steph walked in behind me, quiet like always. We had just come back from the red carpet. She didn’t say anything. She knew better than to speak when I was like this. My blood was boiling. I had sent Sienna a dress I spent weeks working on. Weeks. Custom fabric, hand-beading, fittings, last-minute changes. I even kissed her assistant’s ass — that guy practically controls who gets near her, all just to make sure Sienna Rae would consider wearing it. And what did that ungrateful dog do? Absolutely nothing. And Sienna showed up in Ava’s damn dress. Why Ava design? The one woman I didn’t want to see win. Not tonight. Not ever again. But once again… she won. I kicked off my heels and flung my clutch across the room. It hit the wall with a thud and dropped onto the floor. Not satisfying enough. I grabbed the lamp from the side t

AVA’S POV I heard Sally gasp. It wasn’t loud, but I felt it more than I heard it. I turned my head slightly. She had her phone in her hand, her eyes wide. Her lips were parted like she was about to say something but couldn’t get it out. “What?” I whispered, barely moving my lips. The cameras were still rolling. She leaned in a little like she was afraid to say it too loud. “Sienna Rae… she’s wearing it,” Sally mouthed. “She’s wearing your dress.” “What?” I blinked. I wasn’t sure I read her lips right. But then Kara looked up too, and someone behind the camera shouted something. Everyone turned to the screen. I followed their gaze — and there she was. Sienna Rae. Walking out of a black car, all eyes on her. Flashing lights, fans screaming. And she was wearing my design. Kara leaned toward her mic and said quickly, “This was earlier tonight — footage just came in from the red carpet.” I swear, my heart stopped. I didn’t even breathe. My mind went blank. It was sur

AVA'S POVThe lights were hot. Too hot. I could feel sweat gathering at the back of my neck, even though the room was cold. My hands were folded tightly in my lap, and my smile felt stiff. Kara gave a soft smile to the camera and spoke in that practiced voice that sounded both kind and sharp. “Today we have an exclusive sit-down with Ava Taylor, an impressive designer and founder of Avaris Luxe, a company that recently entered the American market. A woman who’s been praised for her talent… and lately, dragged into the headlines for everything but her work.” I knew what was coming. Still, I nodded politely and waited. No time wasted. Kara turned to me. “Ava, thank you for joining us.” “Thanks for having me,” I said, trying to sound normal. She leaned in just a little, her voice low now. “Let’s talk about the rumors.” And there it was. I blinked. “Which one?” I asked with a half-smile, trying to keep it light. But my chest was already tight. Kara chuckled, but her e

AVA'S POV I woke up before my alarm, eyes wide open, staring at the ceiling. My head felt heavy like it had been stuffed with cotton. Last night kept replaying in my mind — Alex’s question, Jason’s kiss, the phone call from Sally, and that headline flashing across my screen like a punch to the gut. I didn’t know which part hurt more. The fact that I couldn’t give Alex an answer… or the fact that everything I built was crumbling in front of me. I didn’t even want to get out of bed. But I had to. I pushed the covers off and sat up slowly. My chest felt tight again. I hated waking up like this — with that weight pressing down on me before the day even started. I forced myself up from the bed, dragging my feet to the bathroom. I looked at my reflection in the mirror and barely recognized myself. My eyes were puffy, my skin pale. I splashed cold water on my face, hoping it would help me feel human again. It didn’t. After bathing, I hurriedly got ready for work. I tried to eat

ALEX'S POV The drive home felt longer than it would have been. I kept one hand on the wheel, the other clenched against my thigh. The city lights blurred past the window, but I barely saw any of it. My mind was still back at Ava’s place – still stuck on the way she looked at me. Or rather… the way she didn’t. She hadn’t said no. But she hadn’t said yes either. Her silence had been louder than anything. And I’d seen the way her hand trembled when that call from Jason came through. She said she was done with him. She’s said it more than twice. But I couldn’t believe her anymore – not fully. If she truly wanted nothing to do with him… she would’ve blocked his number. Deleted it. But no, the name still popped up. Jason. Saved. Still there. Still reachable. It stung more than I wanted to admit. I pulled into the underground parking lot of my building, sighing as I turned off the engine. My chest felt tight like I’d been holding my breath for hours. Maybe I had. I didn’t kno
