I can't really explain why but the mood in the room felt heavy, very heavy, even though it was just my mum and I, and we were getting ready for tonight. Actually, she was the one helping me prepare for tonight because she was already dressed. She looked mighty flawless, in fact, she looked like she was the first lady with the designer pencil dress that she was wearing paired with white gloves which she had taken off as she attended to me.
My dress on the other hand, was much more extravagant and grand than the simple sophisticated pencil dress that she was wearing. It was almost like she and I were going to attend two different parties, with her going for some high tea and me going for a ball meant for the rich and famous.
This wasn't one of the dresses that I bought. I found this in here when I came back from the spa and a red note along with several boxes of diamond jewellery and pearls, and I knew it was from Octavious.
"I feel like there's something wrong and everyone's keeping it a secret from me," I finally voiced as I looked at my mother who seemed so lost in thought. Various expressions cross her face as I watched her comb through my hair and make sure it was bone straight and perfect.
If there was anyone that could do make up, it was my mother. She had the capability to create this natural look that was far from it. It enhanced your beauty by a million points and as I looked in the mirror, it looked like I was attending an award ceremony and I would be the host of the show or something to that magnitude.
"What's going on?" I asked her, being more assertive now because I was tired of the tantrums and the guilty look in my mother's eyes whenever she looked at me, "I need to know and I won't get ready until you tell me what's wrong."
She stopped straightening my hair and simply placed the device down before she slowly crouched down and sat on the floor, placing her hands on my lap as she took my hands in hers, "I need you to look at me, Nastassia," my mother said, her voice filled with desperation, "I need you to look right at me," she pointed at her eyes and I looked at her.
Her eyes turned glossy as she held my gaze, "you're so beautiful, my baby," she said, her voice cracking as she slowly raised a hand to brush against my cheek lightly, "you're so...so beautiful," she paused, "that it's a curse."
"What are you talking about?"
She didn't answer me, instead her eyes went to look at the ring around my finger that I wore for as long as I can remember. She looked at it with such an intensity that I was sure she was trying to break it off my finger or set it alight, "Nastassia, you've grown into a fine young woman...one that I am so proud of," my mother said and I laughed.
"Proud of? Mum, I haven't even started my life, yet. I haven't even gone to college yet, hell, forget college, I haven't even graduated high school. What is there to be proud of?" I asked her and she laughed lightly, but it didn't reach her eyes.
"I will always make decisions in your best interest, Nastassia," my mother told me as she looked up at me, trying to tell me something with her eyes, "I would die protecting you, as a mother would die protecting her child. Do you know that? I need you to say it verbally, tell me that you know that I would do that."
"I do, mum, I know."
"But, baby, even you know there are certain things that I can't protect you from. There are things that are so out of reach and out of my power that no matter how hard and difficult of a fight I put up, it's only futile."
"Mum, what's goi-"
"I need you to listen, Nastassia," she said, gripping my hands tightly, "just listen, don't talk. I need you to listen. Listen," she told me forcefully and I looked at her, stunned.
"I want the best for you, Nastassia, only the best for you. Perhaps you won't see this now...but to be honest, even I'm not too sure if I see it but I want you to know that I love you, I love you more than life itself. I love you so, so much, and I promise to always be there for you. Whenever you need me, I'm here. I will be here. I will travel at the speed of lightning to get here. Do you understand that?" I gave her a nod even though I found her words strange. Where was this all coming from? I was so tempted to ask but I didn't want to upset her.
She nodded, satisfied before she stood up and gripped my hands, covering them in her kisses, like she would do when I was a kid, "let's get you ready," she said in a whisper as she held my hands and made no movements.
I looked at her, "mum, we have to get ready. Octavious said we had to be down at 19:00 and we're already ten minutes late and I haven't even put on the dress and taken pictures yet."
She nodded and laughed lightly, letting go of my hands as she walked to the bed and picked up the dress, holding it up and I looked at it in awe, "wow...look at that dress. It's gorgeous, mum."
She nodded her head, agreeing with me, "and it's all for you," she said with a smile that I was certain wasn't real, "let's get you into it."
I excitedly took off the silk robe, only dressed in my underwear as I let my mum help me into the dress. She tugged on the corset at the back and the dress fit snug like a glove as I looked at myself in the mirror. I looked amazing.
"Damn..." my mother breathed out as we looked at my reflection in the mirror, taken away by the dress that made me look like I was worth a billion dollars.
"Mum, I thi-" there was three consecutive knocks on my bedroom door before the door was opened and there stood my Godfather Octavious.
He wore a black tuxedo that was tailored to his body as though it were meant to be his skin, with a black bow tie around his neck and the white colour of his shirt underneath. His fingers as always had those rings all over them, and the expensive wristwatch could not be missed.
His eyes met mine, before they slowly took me in as he took slow, casual, confident strides towards me. He stretched out his hand, and I placed my hand in his as he gave me a satisfied smirk, bringing my hand to his lips before he planted a soft peck on them, "you never fail to take my breath away," he croaked out in his raspy hoarse tone that had my insides turn in excitement and desire.
I blushed, enjoying the attention that he gave me that I knew I shouldn't be getting at all but it was hard to stop this.
His eyes moved to my mother's, "it's alright, I'll enter the dinner party with her," he told her curtly before he gave her a nod and looked back at me, stepping even closer to me and my feet felt rooted to the ground.
"Are you going to tell me what this night is about?" I asked him as I placed my hand on his bicep, enjoying the feel of his hard muscles under my tiny hands. His biceps were half the size of my head and he was so much bigger than I was.
He wasn't the tallest man in the room, he wasn't standing at 6'4 or even at 6'0. He's at 5'10" and I used to love making fun of his height even though he was nothing less than intimidating.
He was such a force that held such a powerful, alpha, male aura around him that he demanded respect and even the tallest of men bowed to him. There was something about Octavious that was dark.
I was 5'6" and with heels on, I stood at eye level with his nose.
"Hm," he let out a low hum, looking me over with his eyes before he nodded and l wrapped my hand around his bicep, snuggling closer to him, "let's take a walk."

The halls were empty as we walked side by side. The dress trailed far and wide behind me and I loved the way that it made me feel inside. I felt on top of the world- like, I was the wealthiest most beautiful woman in the world.
Especially as we walked through the hallways of a mansion that must have been the size of the white house and the halls were decorated with statues, portraits, fountains and gardens. Everything about this home let me know that a lot of money went into it. And I knew that Octavious was wealthy, if the extravagant birthday gifts were anything to go by, but I did not think it would be to this magnitude.
"So, are you like the president of Matlock?" I asked him with a light laugh, "I mean, you live in a mansion that's the size of a town," I pointed out.
He gave a small nod, looking down at me for a second before he looked straight ahead and led me to wherever, "yes, I own Matlock and everything on it. It is my island, my own little country."
I let out a low whistle, "oh, I had no idea. So is this like your inauguration or something like that?"
"Something like that," he responded as we turned down a hallway, "it's a celebration...an introduction."
"Introduction?" I repeated with wonder, "what are you introducing?"
"It's more like, who am I introducing, my star," he continued on as he adjusted his bow tie.
"Uh, ok. Who? Me?" I asked him but he didn't answer me, just looked right ahead, "well, Octavious, are you going to answer me? I'm dying in suspense over here. Oh, are you making my dad a vice president or something like that?" he chuckled, shaking his head.
"Something like that."
"Ok, you told me you would tell me tonight, Octavious. I've been in the dark this entire time, don't you think I deserve to know?"
He nodded as we stopped in front of two massive oak doors that were guarded by men wearing all black suits, "you do deserve to know, my star," Octavious turned his head to look at me as he gave me a quick wink, "it's an engagement party."
"Engagement party? Who's getting engaged?"
"We are," he responded, "now, smile for the cameras," he told me and the doors were swung open and I was met with a crowd of people and flashing of cameras.

There was no way that this was happening…There was absolutely no way that this was what Octavious said it was, I was sure he was pulling my leg. Maybe he didn't appreciate all those times I teased him, but did he have to prank me so hard?
I staggered back into my bedroom, unable to hold my body up anymore as the world began to spin uncontrollably around me. I clutched my chest, trying to calm down my racing heart. I tried to calm my erratic breathing by breathing in through my nose and out my mouth but it didn't seem to help. The world around me suddenly became blurry as I thought about what just happened.
After practically banishing my parents, I locked myself in this bedroom that was once my heaven. I slept on the floor in a foetal position and cried until I couldn't cry anymore. When the sun had risen, I decided to use the bathroom and take a shower to attempt to rid myself of this stench of pure sadness and heartbreak.
I sat upright in the tub. My back was rigid as I watched him casually stride into the room, ruining his shoes that I was sure cost hundreds of thousands because he never spared any expense when it came to his clothing. I watched as his hands covered in rings closed the taps, stopping the overflowing water before he walked to the shower and closed the water there as well.
I had been left alone for two days. Just an hour after Octavious left me alone in his bedroom, a group of doctors came in immediately and turned his bedroom into a mini hospital room as they tended to my wounds. My palms and the bottom of my feet were stitched up and all other cuts were cleaned and taken care of.In an
I was drawn into his story, so shocked and taken aback at the life that he talked about because I never knew that my father rolled like that. In my eyes he was always such a gentle and kind, loving man. He was my dad, and that was a man who wore a cape and saved me at the end of the day.His childhood along with Octavious' had been kep
"You're about to take on a position of unimaginable power, Nastassia and you must be prepared," I have no idea where she came from but I assume she's here to teach me what I need to know since I'm marrying Octavious. Everything about this woman was bone chillingly perfect. Her face looked like it had been carved from clay that had hardened over time, her features so noticeable and perfectly in place. There was not a single wrinkle in place and hell, I always thought my mother was the most beautiful woman I've ever set eyes on but this woman right here...Her eyes were so hard set and concentrated, it was like she knew exactly what I was thinking and I couldn't help but try to sit more upright to match her presence. Her back was bone straight, the natural curve of her back arched so beautifully. She had such a strong presence, and she was only 5'3. Yet everything about her was terrifying."I need you t
I hadn't realized how extensive Octavious' bedroom was. He had the bedroom, and next to the bedroom was two different bathrooms, a "his and hers" bathroom. Then after that, his and her walk in closets the size of my previous bedroom in his house; and after those two walk in closets, there was a kitchen and after the kitchen a media room, leading to a game room.He had more than ten rooms all connected as his main area and once I discovered this, I never wanted to leave. My closet had the most beautiful dresses and sexiest lingerie sets, the best of makeup products and what I knew to be millions worth of jewellery.I spent the entire day in my closet because I couldn't believe I had a closet the size of an entire house. There was levels to the closet too- three levels. One entire level dedicated to shoes and handbags, the other dedicated to dresses and clothes and the last one simply jewellery with multiple mirrors where I could do my make
What was about to occur would be the first of plenty more nights like these- where the nation of Matlock will look on proudly at its female leader. A moment where the nation’s heart will be put at rest, at the knowledge that they too, like may other’s had a mother. Centuries down the line, various women will have stood behind the lone empty podium where dozens of cameras faced. They would each repeat the very words said on this night because no better speech had been given to reassure the people.Though the time would be very different and perhaps there would spaceships and flying cars, or the world will be in ruins after humans have destroyed themselves…the speech and its effects would remain the same. All because one young women was dared promised to her godfather, the legacy that she creates and leaves behind for her future generations is one that can
“They’re shooting at us!” I screamed as the once calm and organised convoy of security surrounding us went up in flames. The security who had been following us on their motorbikes were shot at and fell off, or their motorbikes somehow flipped and tossed them off. The scene was absolute chaos and my heart was banging against my heart as the car was forced to take on rounds and rounds of bullets, that left bigger dents each time they shot at us, “they’re shooting at us! Oh my God!”I was a sobbing, petrified and trembling mess while Octavious was calm. “I know! Listen to-”“They’re going to kill us! Octavious, they’re going to kill us!” I didn’t think I’d be joining my family so soon, I thought I’d probably have a few more years of t
“Receive the Lord’s blessing. The Lord bless you and watch over you. The Lord make his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you. The Lord look kindly on you and give you peace; In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”“Amen,” Octavious and I chimed in.If you had told me that I would bury my entire family, I guess I might have believed you. I was the youngest and I would’ve thought you meant over the course of 70 or 80 years, but never in one day. I would have never thought that I was going to bury my entire family in one day.I covered my mouth with my hand, trying to hold back the sobs as my father’s casket was the first to be lowered into the ground. I know I said that I hate
We arrived back in Matlock, a little over 24 hours ago and for the first time in two weeks, I had a peaceful nights rest without Octavious next to me or on top of me. I hoped that he was taking care of the threat and he would make sure that it doesn’t get out of hand, because I’m not too keen on using the gun like he said I might. Since he’s the one who brought me into this life, he better make sure nothing bad happens to me.It was also the first time that I’ve been back in these mansion walls since my attempted escape. Being here and no longer stuck on the beach with a man who managed to make me turn against myself, I wasn’t blinded anymore and I couldn’t escape the reality of my life.
“Octavious…” I moaned out in a voice thick of sleep as I searched around the massive bed for Octavious. I wanted him to prepare some breakfast for me because I didn’t feel like getting out of bed for the next lifetime. He had worked me over time yesterday, not from sex, but from the gun. My fingers were tired to the bone and there was a constant ringing in my ears that Octavious told me that I’d soon get used to.I opened my eyes when I couldn’t feel the presence of Octavious’ body next to mine or anywhere close. “Octavious?” I called out, looking around the room and half expecting him to emerge from the bathroom after an early morning shower. But I was greeted with silence and I furrowed my eyebrows in distaste because that meant I had to get out of bed.
The gunshots that rang through the air reminded me of the night when everything came crashing down and my life was never the same. Tears fell down my face and my bottom lip quivered. My knees buckled beneath me and if it wasn’t for Octavious’ body standing flush behind mine, I would’ve either blown myself backwards or fell to the floor because I couldn’t stand.Octavious had my fingers wrapped around the gold gun that he had killed my sister and Dash with, and no doubt the rest of my family. He had my finger pressed on the trigger and with his fingers wrapped around my own, they forced me to keep pulling the trigger.“I can’t do this, please don’t make me do this,” I begged Octavious as my nose blocked from my crying. I co
“No, no, please!” I screamed in laughter as I tried to get away from Octavious as he chased me along the beach with a crab in his hands.“I thought you loved seafood!” He chuckled behind me as he started to catch up.I screamed, “yeah, when it’s not alive!” I felt Octavious fingers wrap around my wrist and I screamed, flapping my hands at him while he was laughing. He brought the crab close to my face and I tried to run but he caught me.He stopped when he couldn’t control his boisterous laughter at the look of fear on my face. “It’s not funny,” I grumbled before I joined him in his laughter, both of his bending over, trying to catch our breaths from running and laughing.
Octavious had failed to mention on the plane ride here that it was going to be a nude honeymoon. It felt weird to be walking around outside while I was naked. Even though Octavious reassured me that there was nobody else here but the two of us, I was still very hesitant. The sun was just beginning to set and I was walking along the beach, enjoying the feel of the sand between my toes as I walked further into the water, until I was completely covered by the cold water until my shoulders.I looked back into the house, seeing Octavious in the kitchen, moving around and preparing food for us. He told me that he would be doing all the cooking during our honeymoon so I just sit back and relax. I don’t know much about relaxing
The island that he brought me to was very tropical and beautiful. The trees were thick and bright green and I just knew that there were plenty of terrifying insects. After we had landed, we walked together until we reached the only home, I assume on this entire island. The house was beautiful and a thing of modern technique. The exterior was black where there were walls, but most of it was made from glass and you could see clearly into the home. The interior had a biophilic design and everything was integrated with nature. It was definitely a breath of fresh air.I lay on the bed, in bodily pain that was a reminder of what had happened last night after we had dinner. It had been painful for the most part, especially at the beginning until pleasure took over and I had begun to enjoy it. I didn’t want to but my body had a mind of its own.
