Chapter 169

Fern's Perspective

At midnight, moonlight from the forest spilled over my bed through a gap in the curtains. The room was silent except for the steady ticking of the ancient clock on the wall. I rolled over, trying to fall asleep, but the events of last night kept replaying in my mind.

Suddenly, there was a faint rattle from the balcony. My senses sharpened, and I turned to the window. The window door was soon pushed open gently, and a tall figure appeared.

It was Oliver, his deep eyes glinting in the dim light.

"Still awake?" His voice was low, tinged with concern.

"I couldn't sleep," I replied softly, sitting up. Internally, I felt a vague unease. "How did you get here? Aren't there any guards outside?"

"I avoided them," Oliver said casually.

I frowned, sensing that something was amiss. With all that had happened to the pack recently, it made sense that the patrols would be stricter.

I feel so bad because fern desire to be happy she going through so much pain and suffering and it makes me so sad ... she can never have a break.
