6. The Luna

CHAPTER 6

PYRA's POV:

“Rhaella.”

“Rhae…lla.”

Oh No, not again. That same deep voice.

I touched the ground, expecting to feel the cold marbled floor, but instead was met with something soft and cool.

My memories came flooding back—the torture, the mistletoe, the silver burns. I shuddered, fear creeping up my spine like a slow-moving fog.

Just then, I heard the voice calling that same name. “Rhaella.” The voice followed with a piercing howl, sending cold shivers down my spine.

I forcefully opened my eyes, feeling confusion creeping in as I pushed upwards and knelt. Shockingly, I was fully healed with no injury in sight.

“Where am I?” I croaked, scanning my surroundings. A figure stood before me. It was the same mysterious man, with red hair similar to mine and piercing crimson orbs for eyes. The crescent moon on his shoulder seemed to gleam with a soft light.

“You’re closer, Rhaella.” He said, his deep voice echoing through the clearing. “Close to home, close to fulfilling your destiny.”

“Who’s Rhaella? What destiny?” I tried to speak, but no words came from my mouth.

I watched as the man dissipated slowly, blending with the fog that surrounded the clearing. “No, wait…” I reached out to hold him but before I could grab him, I felt the world turn.

I woke up with a soft gasp, a scream threatening to tear off my sealed lips due to such vivid dreams that have plagued my mind ever since the day I found my mate. I could feel the sweat dripping from my forehead, but yet I felt cold.

"When do you think she'll come through? It has been a week now, and there's no change yet," I heard an unfamiliar voice say through my closed eyelids.

"I don't know; I've cleaned her wounds, but she'll heal fast eventually. She's a werewolf, and this one seems like a fighter. She'll be waking any day now." Another voice said, though thick but sounding so caring and concerned.

"If you hadn't been so stupid and arrogant as to torture this poor thing, she would have never been this way. You need to stop these actions first; questions later." The thick, feminine voice continued. "No one should be treated this way. Her scars prove she has been through a lot of hardships."

"Oh, spare me the lecture, Veronica. You're the worst sister ever," the same male voice that first spoke, and this time, I recognized his voice— Beta Thane. My eyes widened in shock, and I struggled to sit up. Fear from what he had gone surged through my body, causing me to struggle more. I felt a firm hand pressing me back down.

"Hey, girl, breathe and calm down. We're not here to hurt you." A soft voice said, but I didn't stop.

"Hey, you'll tear your stitches, and I won't go through the stress of reapplying them. So stop!" She growled softly, her kind voice turning firm as she glared at me.

My futile resistance subsided, and I stared into her eyes.

"Hey, now breathe. You're safe. I'm Veronica, the pack's healer, and you’re in the pack clinic."

Now that I was calm, I had time to look at her. She was a bit muscular for a girl, meaning she was also a warrior and spent more time on the training grounds. She had a pixie cut that was short and dark, which complimented her tanned skin.

"What's your name?" She asked, but I only stared at her, not wanting to answer.

I remained mute, ignoring her while taking subtle glances around me, taking what looked like a hospital room I was currently held in. The walls were a brilliant white except for the occasional red colors and a few cabinets, but other than those and the bed that I lay in, the room was just simple.

"Okay…” Veronica stretched. “As I said, you're in the pack's hospital. You've been in a coma for seven days after that bulky baboon of a brother tortured you. So sorry for his rash actions," she continued, directing my gaze to Beta Thane, who was standing there with narrowed eyes."Those idiots won't hurt you again while I'm here," she said, caressing my face in a caring way. I looked at the other party in the room and saw a pack warrior standing by the door.

“Luke? Inform the Luna that she's awake now; hurry!" Beta Thane ordered the pack warrior, who left in seconds.

I lay there as Veronica worked on me, checking my vitals, and ticking stuff off her clipboard before she stared into my eyes with confusion and wonder. “You’re totally healed up, which is too fast even for a werewolf considering the amount of injury that plagued your body...” She continued to speak, but I ignored her; my mind was still plagued with confusion as to why I was there. Did they want to see me suffer before they killed me?

“What’s your name?” Veronica asked, staring expectantly into my eyes. A question to which I didn’t reply. Seeing that I didn’t answer, she continued. “Where are you from? Who did this to you?" A barrel of questions was thrown at me, which I again ignored.

“Oh, don’t be so clueless, sister. She’s a spy, and her smell reeks of the fangborn wolves.” Thane accused, almost pulling his hair in frustration.

“Shut up, Thane.” Veronica said as she sighed after realizing she wasn’t getting any answer from me. I used this opportunity of silence to think of a way to escape this place. I was ready to die, but it seemed like life wanted me to suffer severely.

I should be dead after falling from that cliff, so why am I not? I continued to think to myself when the door opened, and I looked up to see everyone bow respectfully; both siblings bowed in reverence.

I watched the same beautiful woman I saw before I fell unconscious entering the room. It was her, the goddess. Her beauty was surreal, and I couldn't help but marvel. An air of aloofness and dominance surrounded her, and her presence screamed of power. Her emerald green eyes gleamed brightly, scrutinizing and searching.

Both she and Beta Thane spoke for a while, whispering in the corner. I was only able to pick up a few words from their conversations, but one was apparent: a spy.

She must be the Luna of the pack, not a goddess, with the way she spoke and demanded everyone obey her. Veronica filled her in on my progress until finally their conversation came to an end.

Luna walked further into the room, coming closer to me, viewing me like some spectacle on display. Her eyes were locked into mine with suspicion and… shock.

“Who are you, and why are you here in my pack?” She asked, and her voice was powerful and demanding but, at the same time, soft and soothing. Her emerald eyes scanned me from head to toe, waiting for my reply.

I tried to speak, opening my mouth, but nothing came out, and this probably made her angry at being ignored. I wanted to scream to each and every one of them that I was no spy, but the words were latched into my sealed lips.

Veronica stepped in, her head bowed. "Apologies, Luna, for my interruption, but she’s still recovering, and I don’t think she’s capable of speaking, or maybe she’s just too scared considering the state we last saw her in. I will give her a general checkup and report to you.” She intervened.

Luna’s gaze lingered on me, staring directly into my soul before she turned to Veronica. “Bring her to the pack house as soon as she’s healed. I need to speak personally with her.” With that, she gracefully left the room, easing the tension and leaving me with more questions than answers.

I stared at the direction she just left, not bothered anymore about the weird dream I was having or where I was. All I wanted to know was who the Luna was and why I felt drawn to her.

"Just who is this woman?"
