CHAPTER 2
PYRA’s POV: Alpha Maverick came to halt in front of him. His bright blue eyes locked into my red ones. His broad figure almost dominated the whole kitchen as his skin shimmered in the small sunlight that entered the kitchen. His hair, dark and messy. He stared down at me silently while I shook and shivered on the floor from Natalie’s brutal attack. I wondered what I had ever done wrong to deserve all of this. I emitted a soft, pitiful snuffle and picked myself up, my movement hesitant and awkward, and bowed respectfully. “Thank you, Alpha,” I whispered, my voice barely above a whisper. Alpha Maverick grunted, his voice firm but not unkind. "You shouldn't let other people bring you down; you need to stand up for yourself, Pyra. There is no room in my pack for weak omegas.” His words stung, but he was right. But I couldn't stand up for myself, even if I tried. Only pain came the last time I tried. So now, I did what anyone would have done if they were in my shoes; lay low and let everyone have their way. When they get bored enough, they would leave me alone, eventually. I didn't realize the alpha was still present, until I heard his deep voice which made me jump. "I won’t be here to protect you next time. Stand up for yourself if you want to survive.” He paused for the longest time. “Do you smell that?” I raised my head slightly, but barely enough to lock eyes with him. It would be disrespectful. I sniffed the air, and that’s when it hit me like a ton of bricks. The most amazing smell ever. The entire kitchen smelled of pine and the forest after it rained. The smell of nature. Momentarily, the smell made me forget all the dangers I had been through, and my head went upwards towards the man standing in front of me. The wonderful smell was coming from him. Impossible. The Alpha is my... "Mate." Alpha Maverick’s words seemed to hang in the air as we both stared at each other. None of us was ready to talk; we were just both frozen in our spots in the large kitchen. The word echoed in my mind, its impact like a dagger into my heart. “Mate.” It was impossible. I had a mate, and he was the leader of the pack, Alpha Maverick. I always thought that someone as weak as me would never be considered by the moon goddess to have a mate. I thought I was unworthy and destined to spend the rest of my miserable life alone and detached from everyone in the pack, but now I guess the goddess has something in store for me. I didn't know how to react; my body ached, and I could feel a stare of ridicule raining down on me from him. "You... that's impossible." His eyes were hooded by the small light above, but I could still see clearly the conflict that passed through them. It all disappeared after a while. "You cannot be my mate, as you are not fit to rule by my side; you are only an omega, weaker than most even." With every word I knew what was coming next, I began to shake my head, refusing to hear his next words. He sighed, "I, Maverick Zephyr, reject you, Pyra, to be my mate under the moon goddess light." Every word struck my heart; they played in my mind over and over again, and I thought it was over. I couldn't stay anymore; and the pain in my heart felt like my entire world was crashing down on me. I shouldn't feel this way, I've never placed too much hope on finding a mate, I never thought that he would whisk me away under the starlight, but it hurt so much that it didn't happen. Why did the moon goddess bestow upon me a mate if he was just going to cause me much pain? Haven't I had enough? The tears brimming at the corner of my eye made my vision blurry, but I could feel the amount of ridicule raining down on me. We were both alone in the kitchen, but it seemed like I was surrounded by my tormentors. They all laughed at me. I didn’t notice Alpha Maverick leave as I collapsed with a resounding thud to the ground in disbelief and pain, tears falling down my face. All the facades of resolve I had managed to build over the years, crumbling. I sat flat on the floor, having no desire to move out of this place. Nothing changed, if anything, my days in the pack would only grow worse. The tears fell from my face as my heart shattered into a million pieces. As I cried, I failed to take note of my surroundings. I didn't expect anyone to come down to the kitchen this early in the morning. The sound of women chuckling echoed throughout, and I knew they were coming. I couldn’t let them see me like this. I rushed, scattering to the fireplace to let smoke cover my scent, and hid behind the large kitchen door, holding the teary chokes and my breath. “I just saw Alpha Maverick leave. Maybe she’s finally alone there.” Natalie’s voice echoed as she and her friends came in. "What happened? I want to hear it again," Jena asked excitedly. She was a short girl with a pixie cut and had been Natalie's friend for as long as I could remember. "The alpha showed up when I was about to finish up with that ginger freak. She’s here in the kitchen, and I called you guys for reinforcements. A little beating won’t be that bad, yeah.” Natalie replied. They all giggled, and I huddled my body harder against the wall, trying to escape by merging into one with the pillars. They were chatting about me and also here to continue where Natalie had stopped before the Alpha saved me. “Where’s she?” Natalie asked, confused. She sniffed the air but choked from the smell of smoke. “She’s supposed to be here!” “Maybe, she ran as fast as possible. The dumb bitch is getting quite smart. Why do you take so much interest in Pyra, anyway?" Jenna asked, receiving nods from their other two friends who were curious. Natalie’s words were filled with disgust and spite. “Have you looked at her? I mean, take a good look at her. Can't you see her hair? Who has that pigment of hair in this pack?” She rambled, her pitch evolving higher. “No werewolf in two centuries has ever had vibrant red hair as bright as hers. And with the length of her hair and the beauty of that delicate face, it’s just a little time before she catches the eyes of my alpha. I can't take such a risk. I want her gone." "I see your reasoning on that, bestie. Such a pretty face was wasted on her. But what makes you think Pyra will ever catch the Alpha’s eyes?" Jenna’s curiosity was piqued as her voice was sarcastic. I felt someone resting on the kitchen door, pressing my body painfully behind the door. I sniffled a painful groan as I stretched my hand to pick an apple. Jenna’s hands searched for the fruit, and I hesitantly shifted the basket closer to her, letting her pick it successfully. “I don’t know. I just feel there’s something about her that will threaten my position of power. I don’t know what it is, but I could feel the energy within her. She makes me uneasy the closer she gets to Maverick.” Natalie’s voice was low as she spoke. “And she’s extremely beautiful, even more than me. I can’t stand her presence. No one is going to threaten my Luna position. I really can't wait for Maverick to see me as his mate. I'd make sure to get rid of her as the new Luna." They didn't stay long after their conversation, and their voices faded away as they passed through and out of the kitchen. I stayed behind the pillar, scared that they would come back for me. Why were they talking about me? I never knew what I did to make her hate me so much. I didn't care much about their discussion and ran out of the kitchen.CHAPTER 3PYRA’s POV:It's been two days since I got rejected and I've been trying to avoid crossing paths with Alpha Maverick. A few times, he was close to discovering me, but I had experience with escaping people, and I knew every place within the pack, so it was easy to run from him.As I got dressed for the day's chores with the pain of his rejection still looming over my entire being, a knock sounded at the door. A few seconds later, the door opened, one of the other maids piped in as she glared at me.“The headmistress demands our presence now,” she said before I could say anything. Another normal day in the pack house, and by normal day, I meant filled with chores and having to not bump into Alpha Maverick, Natalie, or Connor, which was always hard considering I worked on the same floor they lived on and I had to serve them their food. I didn’t want to get up, but I knew what would happen if I miss today's briefing. We all gathered in the servant quarters, which was an ext
CHAPTER 4 PYRA’s POV: I rushed out of the alpha's wing, feeling the tears flow freely down my cheeks. I thought for a second that he had finally come through, that everything would be fine. The way he held me so closely convinced me, although I could smell the alcohol on him. The mate bond tricked me and my delusional mind into thinking that he wanted me. He didn't; it was all a mistake, and none of it was real. With my clothes in my hand and only my underwear for cover, I raced back to my room. It was still dark out, and everyone should have still been in bed. It was easier to run back to my room without being seen, and it would be easier for me to leave in the cover of darkness. I was never even going to stay after what had happened; I wouldn't be able to live with myself knowing that we had sex, and I later found out he never wanted me to begin with. I had been banished. Where I would go was the question I would figure out when I was out of the pack. I stuffed my
CHAPTER 5PYRA's POV:I groggily struggled to open my eyes, feeling the cold sink deep into my bones. No matter how much I tried to open them, to move an inch of my eyelid, they refused to bulge. It was as if they were heavily weighed down by an invisible force like a thousand bricks pressing down on them. 'Was I dead?' I wondered. Was this how the afterworld felt?I felt like a prisoner, imprisoned in my own body. I could remember unquestionably falling to my death off the cliff, the crashing impact with the water's surface, and the excruciating pain that still lingered vividly in my mind.I knew I was dead at that moment since no one could have ever survived that impact. But… the persistent throbbing of my heart and the feeling of the blood mixed with anguish coursing through my veins told me a different story.I realized I wasn't dead after all. The pain and coldness after my rejection were too real and intense to ignore. But where was I? Why was it so cold here?"Wake up, goddam
CHAPTER 6PYRA's POV:“Rhaella.” “Rhae…lla.” Oh No, not again. That same deep voice. I touched the ground, expecting to feel the cold marbled floor, but instead was met with something soft and cool. My memories came flooding back—the torture, the mistletoe, the silver burns. I shuddered, fear creeping up my spine like a slow-moving fog. Just then, I heard the voice calling that same name. “Rhaella.” The voice followed with a piercing howl, sending cold shivers down my spine. I forcefully opened my eyes, feeling confusion creeping in as I pushed upwards and knelt. Shockingly, I was fully healed with no injury in sight. “Where am I?” I croaked, scanning my surroundings. A figure stood before me. It was the same mysterious man, with red hair similar to mine and piercing crimson orbs for eyes. The crescent moon on his shoulder seemed to gleam with a soft light. “You’re closer, Rhaella.” He said, his deep voice echoing through the clearing. “Close to home, close to fulfilling you
CHAPTER 7Maverick’s POVI reviewed the papers on my desk, endeavoring to focus on what lay in front of me, but my mind wandered back to her again. I’ve been plagued by the constant reminder of Pyra. No matter what I did, I couldn’t shake off her crimson eyes and her scent off my head. I sighed as I picked up a file while standing up. The chair scraped loudly against the floor, and I paced around the office. My heavy footsteps echoed off the walls of my office but I couldn’t care less. I only cared about her. My line of sight directed back to my desk— the same spot where I took Pyra. I remembered the soft touch of her pale white skin, her bright piercing eyes boring into mine, and the electricity that sparked whenever our bodies touched. She was too weak to be my mate, yet her fiery spirit lured me into her embrace. Where was she anyway? I haven’t seen her for days now. I walked back to the exact spot and traced my hands where she once lay. I felt hot inside, the memory playing
CHAPTER 8: To Have His Heir NATALIE's POV:I could never get used to this sensation. The taste of absolute control and I basked in it. I triumphed internally as the guards moved out under my single command, and with a satisfying smirk plastered on my face, I knew I loved every bit of this. This was what power felt like; Being able to manipulate anyone and everything with just a single word. I could have just anyone bowing at my feet and worshiping, or else they’d face the consequences. The single thought of anyone taking my place as the Luna of the Fangborn pack didn't bode well with me. It was unbearable to even think about it. Anyone who dares glance at Alpha Maverick so much as in the wrong way would have me to deal with, personally. Not even that pathetic, useless Omega, Pyra, would ever take my rightful position. I was born to be Luna, and that bitch, Pyra, wanted to take my birthright. Let's just say she won't be seen or missed anytime soon.I made sure my brother and the pack
CHAPTER 9: Welcome To FireHeart Pack PYRA's POV: "This is going to be your quarter for the time being," said Veronica, showing me a huge room that was about seven times the size of my former room in my fangborn pack. I marveled at the beauty of this pack. It was large as it was beautiful. "You can clean up here; Luna would like to see you briefly, so we have to hurry up." Veronica showed me to the bathroom and then pointed to the bed where a fresh, clean dress was kept. "You should change into that, Luna loathes dirt with all her being." "And you remain a fascinating mystery to me. You haven't told me your name," smiled Veronica, her eyes bright with curiosity. That's true. I have been watching everything play out in front of me, too shocked to even utter a statement or ponder my own emotions. Looking at Veronica, I understood she was only being cordial but never wanted to hurt me like everyone has done since I was born. "P-py," I struggled to say, but my throat was s
CHAPTER 10: The Only Way Natalie’s POV: I glared at Luna Elodie for destroying everything when I was so close to achieving my goals. My heart raced with panic as I locked eyes with her bright, surprised ones, filled with rage. She had caught me red-handed, and I knew I had to think fast to cover my tracks or risk destroying everything I'd worked for. “Luna. W-what are you doing here?” I stammered softly, trying to sound nonchalant despite the growing panic I felt within and the fact that I was still straddling Maverick’s unconscious body with my legs. I watched Luna Elodie’s eyes narrow as she gazed at the salacious position. I was still stuck with her son as her gaze flickered to Maverick before returning to meet mine. “What the hell have you done, Natalie?” She demanded, her voice dangerously low and menacing. I stood up slowly, strapping my bra to cover my exposed chest while drawing the lace gown to cover my body, though my attempt proved futile. I nervously fo
CHAPTER 99: Friends Pyra’s POV:It had been two weeks since I’d confessed to Luna Verona that Alpha Maverick was the father of my unborn children. To my surprise—and of course, relief—she had promised to keep the revelation between the two of us, honouring my plea for secrecy. She had probed for more details about how the event went, wanting to know everyone to the point where I was found by the shore, but I had refused to say much, unwilling to relieve the pain of my past. But after some persuasion, I told her most of it. Now, nestled in the luxurious penthouse, while lying on an impossibly soft bed I’d never dreamed of, I found myself struggling with a different kind of burden. The doctors, along with Madraya, had insisted on strict bed rest. “It’s for the health of the babies,” they said. While I appreciated the care, I couldn’t help but feel restless.I glanced at my protruding abdomen, now noticeably larger than it was before. I couldn’t believe just how much I’d grown in just
CHAPTER 98: End The Bad BloodMaverick's POV:“This is something we should have done a long time ago, Maverick.” Mother’s voice followed after the initial silence. “Collaborating with the FireHeart pack and joining our forces as one should have been our first and top priority; maybe none of this would have happened.”I sighed, instinctively rubbing my palm over my face in frustration. As much as I would hate to deny it, my mother was telling the truth. It was all my fault. If I had not been too stubborn, too headstrong to believe I could handle everything in and out of my pack, then those wolves, or if I could even call them that, would have been stopped. I fear we are too late now. “But there’s bad blood between our opposing pack, Luna.” Derick’s worried voice pierced through as the ministers who sat around the meeting room all nodded in agreement, most whispering amongst themselves. “It’s been far too long. Our pack would speak to them now, since after the Great War, spark their in
CHAPTER 97: No Death ScareThird person’s POV:The laboratory was still filled with tension and the smell of chemicals and antiseptic. Alpha Duncan laid rigid on the edge of the examination table, his teeth gritted against the waves of pain that surged through his body. His normally imposing and staring frame was slumped, weakened, his healing slower than expected. The Crimson’s power still eluded him.Alpha Duncan turned to Caspien who watched his father with curious eyes. “There is someone I have kept locked up in the car’s trunk. Get him out.”“Father,” Caspien began, his voice hesitant and brows furrowed from the strange command, “What kind of—“ Duncan cut him off with a guttural growl, his voice commanding and unyielding. “Do as I say, Caspien. CHAPTER 96: A New SourceThird person’s POV:Caspian paced the pack’s common room, his restlessness was evident in every taut movement he made. The common area was filled with silence and tension as everyone waited. Warriors sat or stood in small groups, their gazes flickering toward the door every second with anticipation. Four hours. A whole four hours had passed since their Alpha had left without a word to Caspien or anyone, and every minute stretched endlessly.“Where is he?” Caspian muttered, his voice low and simmering with frustration. “It’s been hours, and he hasn’t returned.” His patience was wearing thin, his worry masked by irritation. After he came back from his successful mission, he expected to see his father waiting for him. Beta Alaric, leaning against the wall with arms crossed, turned to him. “Patience, boy,” he said with a calm authority that only deepened Caspien’s scowl. “Our Alpha wouldn’t delay unless it was necessary.”Boy? That single word was like a spark
CHAPTER 95: Kicks Of JoyPyra’s POVI was still shaken a bit from the events of the day as I stood in the throne room, the air thick with the lingering echoes of the Wanderer. Madraya stood beside me, her voice a soothing balm against the storm inside.“Do not stress, Pyra,” she murmured, her hand rubbing gentle circles on my back. “You need rest. Such stress isn’t good for your unborn children. Remember, the gestation period of crimson wolves is far shorter.”Her words caught me off guard, my brow furrowing in confusion. She must have seen my confusion and furrowed brows as she smiled, explaining further. “It takes five to seven months for crimson wolves,” she continued, her tone soft. “And you’re already five months along.”I blinked, processing her revelation. “But I don’t feel like I’m close to giving birth. I’m not even that big.”Madraya smiled faintly, “Things are strange now, child. The awakening of a crimson wolf is something I can never understand, for it shifts everything.
CHAPTER 94: A Different AlphaMaverick’s POV:“Hey, hey, wake up.” I rushed over to Natalie, shaking her shoulder. She must have fallen unconscious after I faced off that mysterious man. Natalie twitched, groaning slightly. Her head shifted to the side as her eyes fluttered open, unfocused. “Huh-uh?” She murmured incoherent words, her words a slurry of confusion. She squinted at me, before her eyes darted around the destroyed penthouse, to the window and back to meet my gaze. “W-where’s the bastard?” She asked, her temple stained with blood, a thin crimson trail tracing the curve of her cheek. “Gone,” I said firmly, gripping each side of her face. “Are you okay?” I asked, feeling her skin cold against my palm. Her eyes squinted, becoming even smaller, as if trying to make sense of me, of everything. “Maverick?” she gasped. A faint, bitter laugh escaped her. “So I’m alive. But you... look different.”“He must’ve hit your head pretty hard to say such a thing. I look the same,” I mut
CHAPTER 93: The Black Hood Attack Maverick’s POV My hands tightened on the steering wheel as the car sped through the emptying streets, the engine growling under the speed as if mirroring the chaos brewing from inside me. I could see the penthouse from this distance, and its destruction was evident even from the afar, but my focus was razor-sharp. Natalie sat stiffly beside me, her voice cutting through the tension. “Minister Blackthorn and Daemon are still inside.” I gritted my teeth, my knuckles white as I gripped the steering wheel tighter. I stopped the car as the penthouse loomed ahead, its once-pristine exterior marred by cracks and shattered glass. I didn’t need to ask what happened. The carnage spoke for itself. My heart slammed inside my chest, but not out of fear but out of anger. How dare anyone attack my private holding?! When we entered the building, it was unrecognizable. Furniture lay shattered, walls were gouged with deep claw marks, and the acrid scent of
