Chapter 82

Author's Pov

“Madame, she has sent a message, the girl has eventually been poisoned.”

“Oh, is that so?” A woman dressed in a slitted red gown, her cleavage open with her hair styled elegantly. She had a black mole on top of her red lips, and her grey eyes shone vividly under the dim lights, “I guess the servant needs a reward then.” The woman stood up from the sofa and walked towards her table. She took out the box inside her drawer and opened it carefully, revealing a dagger that was imbued with small gemstones. It looked like a decorational rather than something useful.

“Your orders, madame.”

“Once she comes to the warehouse, make sure you kill her. Bury her in a place that can't be found, I can't have too many people around me.”

“I understand madam, I'll make sure she's gone.”

**********

A few days later.

The warehouse was dimly lit, shadows stretching long and eerie against the cold concrete walls. The scent of dust and metal lingered in the air, a lone servant

Chapter 83 Author's Pov The Madame’s expression hardened as she scrutinized Nyx. There was something unnatural about this girl, no, this woman. She wasn’t just standing there confidently after being poisoned. She looked… untouched, as if the poison had never been inside her body to begin with. The Madame took a slow step forward, the slit in her dress swaying with the motion, “That poison should have left you writhing in agony.” She murmured, her grey eyes gleaming with intrigue, “It was designed to break even the strongest of men in the Caprienne's Clan. Yet here you are, untouched, unbothered. You must have a certain resistance to poison.”Nyx tilted her head, her smirk widening, “Ah, so you do have a brain in there somewhere. Took you long enough to figure it out.”The Madame’s attendant tensed, hand still hovering over her hidden weapon. The Madame, however, raised a single finger, halting any further aggression. She was too curious now, too drawn in by the enigma standing befor

Chapter 84 Nyx's Pov This was the Caprienne's Clan main building? I glanced around, ignoring the eyes of the people that were fixed on me. It was only a matter of time before I was brought here, so they were just seeing me earlier, there was not any need for them to be so concerned about me. “You're here now, is there anything you want?” The madam questioned and I turned to stare at her. When I first heard about her from the servant, I thought she was a very interesting woman and her character would be more wicked and feisty, but contrary to my words, she wasn't like that. Or was it because I was here? “Actually, I wanted to see someone, but I thought differently about it. I think I'll just have to do with coming in here for now.” I crossed my arms. Alden had told me that someone else was snooping around. She was identified already so I was waiting for her to come up to me herself. Once she heard that I had already shown myself to the main clan, I reckon she was going to panic and

Why is she still hiding herself, I thought she doesn't want me there? Why, though? I only know that they don't want me there but I don't know the reason why they don't want me. I'm very sure that you all don't have a close knit family bond but still, someone like me would be a great addition to your clan, but instead, they want to kill me.” I crossed my arms. I had actually been thinking about it previously, but no matter how much I thought, I could not wrap my head around their thought process, it was really confusing to me so I dropped it and stopped thinking about it. “Actually…” Yasmin started but stopped and then looked around, “Do you think we can talk somewhere else, I'm tired of standing.” I studied Yasmin for a moment, weighing her words carefully. She was nervous, more than before. The way her eyes darted around, the way she shifted her

Why do you even think you can trust me anyways?"Her jaw tightened, "We don’t have a choice. Cassandra has most of the clan in a chokehold, and the few of us that are left trying to survive? We’re running out of options."She exhaled sharply, pushing a stray curl behind her ear, “Things aren’t as simple as they seem, Nyx. If they were, I wouldn’t be sitting here talking to you like this.”I tapped my fingers against the table, considering her words, “Cassandra’s got the whole clan in the palm of her hand I must admit she's good at this”Yasmin hesitated, then nodded, “She controls everything. My father might be the official head, but everyone knows who pulls the strings. And the more powerful she gets, the more desperate the rest of us become.”I hummed, tilting my head slightly, “And what makes you think I’d be inte

Chapter 87Nyx's POVI leaned back in my seat, watching Yasmin as she finally relaxed. We had an agreement now, and while I wasn’t one to trust easily, I knew she had just as much to lose as I did. Cassandra was a threat to both of us, which meant for now we were on the same side. But my mind was already moving past our conversation, shifting to the bigger picture. The Capriennes weren’t my only problem. Cassandra might have been the most immediate threat, but there were others watching from the shadows, waiting for the right moment to make their move. The streets weren’t safe. Not for me, not for Yasmin, and definitely not for anyone caught in the crossfire of this war but, it was nothing that a little bit of fighting couldn't fix. I stood, stretching out my limbs before tossing a few bills onto the table, "We're done here. If you hear anything new, you know how to find me."Yasmin hesitated, as if she wanted to say something else, but in the end, she just nodded, “Be careful, Nyx.

My voice has a certain charm. I’ve been told it’s rather addictive."I let out a dramatic sigh. "Right. And who told you that? Yourself in the mirror?"His chuckle was deep and smooth, like he found my irritation amusing. "Jealousy is not a good look on you, sweetheart.""Oh, please," I scoffed. "If I ever start complimenting you like that, just know I’ve been brainwashed. Or heavily drugged."Alden placed his hands on the counter, effectively trapping me in place. "Don’t worry, Nyx. You don’t have to say it. I already know you think I’m irresistible."I snorted, "The only thing you’re irresistible to is trouble."He leaned in, his breath brushing against my skin, his voice dropping to a low murmur. Silence stretched between us, heavy and unspoken. I studied him, trying to read between the lines. He wasn’t telling me everything, but I could see it in his face, there were other things that he was not saying. I swallowed, forcing myself to stay composed, "Why should I trust you?"Liam took a step closer, his voice low and urgent, "Because if you don’t, you might not live long enough to regret it.I narrowed my eyes, "You still haven’t told me the real reason you came looking for me, Liam. Siblings maybe? My eyes darted between the two men, my mind working quickly. The resemblance was there, the sharp features, the arrogant posture, the way they both held themselves like they owned the world.I turned to Alden, lowering my voice so only he could hear, “Who is he?”His jaw tightened, but he didn’t take his eyes off the man, “Castillo. My half-brother.” His voice was ice-cold, and the way he said it made it clear there was no love lost between them, he talked about them like they were strangers, “And the man in the wheelchair is my grandfather.”My fingers twitched slightly, resisting the urge to reach for my knife. His grandfather. The man sitting so still, so silent, radiated an unsettling aura. He wasn’t just anyone. He was someone powerful. Someone dangerous.I barely had time to proc

Chapter 122 Nyx's Pov I crashed into the house, opening the doors loudly. Alden was seated on the couch, his eyes narrowing the moment he met my eyes. “What's it?” “Actually, there's a lot of trouble which I may or may not have caused but the downline is, I need help. Cassandra and a few others have been captured by Marcello, an evil uncle.” I explained, shedding the outer clothes I wore that were already stained with blood. “Marcello?”“Yeah. I don't think we have time to stay here and explain but we need all the men we can get, there's no need to stay and plan to catch them off guard, they already know that we are going to come no matter what, it's better to just face them head on.” I murmured, running towards my room and taking out all the weapons I owned. Alden rose to his feet, jaw tight, “You were supposed to lay low, Nyx.” He growled, following me to the hallway where I was strapping on twin daggers to my thigh, “You promised you wouldn’t do anything reckless.”“I didn’t

The sound of hurried footsteps broke the silence as one of his guards stumbled in, breathless and shaken."My Lord, I… I have news to report.” The guard panted, bowing deeply as he rushed into the room. Marcello’s sharp gaze pinned him in place, “Speak and be fast about it. Do not waste my time.”The man swallowed hard, “The thing is… We found out that... That Nyx, she has escaped. I wanted to come and warn you but it was too late, we had already been put into house arrest.” Liam shifted beside her, "Marcello doesn’t know we’ve compromised his men, which gives us the advantage. But we need to move fast. If he realizes something is wrong, he’ll change the security around the mansion."I glanced back at the ongoing fight. Yasmin’s planted guards were making it look real, striking down Marcello’s loyalists and drawing attention away from the inside."Alright, so what’s next?" I asked.“We bypass them and then go to Alden, he should be able to help us take control of the houses back. It won't take long for us to leave the main mansion to the outer part, though it might take longer as the outside may be more guarded than it

She had been whispering since we started talking about how to escape. I didn't say anything, just motion med towards the window. Cassandra's eyes narrowed, "You're not seriously thinking of escaping through that window, are you?"I walked over to the small, barred window on the far side of the room. It was high up, but nothing I couldn't handle. The bars were old, rusted at the edges. With enough force, they could be broken."I don’t think it. I know it." I turned back to face them, "Stay put. I’ll get myself out."Valeria gave me a doubtful look, "How do you plan to…?"I didn’t answer. Instead, I climbed onto the ledge and pressed my hands against the bars. With a sharp exhale, I pulled. The metal groaned in protest, but I kept going. My arms trembled with the effort, my fingers aching, but then a loud snap and the bar bro

Why do you look like that?” “They found it! He's back! That person is back!” She said, her voice shaking. “What are you talking about? What did they find? And who is back? Speak clearly and stop going about in riddles, Valeria! Speak!” “They found Aunt Cassandra. Uncle Marcello is back, and he has captured Cassandra.” “What?!” Alexandra turned her head back so fast that it felt like her head was going to fall off her neck, “He wasn't supposed to come back until after everything was over! How did he…?” “Now that's a very good question, isn't it?” Alexandra was cut off by a very unfamiliar voice. I glanced at the person who spoke from the co

They wanted to eliminate one of us to weaken my mother’s claim. But something went wrong. My mother found out about the plot but at that moment, due to my father taking control, my mother didn't have enough power so she announced to the clan that only one of us had survived birth. And that ‘one’ was me.”I blinked, “Wait, hold on. She just… hid you?”Cassandra’s lips pressed into a thin line, “I was raised in secret. Hidden away, protected, but also erased. It wasn’t just the fact that there was a bed here, tucked away like someone had been living in secrecy. It was the eerie stillness, it was the way no one had not known about this place. Even though Valeria had shown me this place, I'm pretty sure she hadn't really entered because no matter how stupid she was, if she knew what was in here, she would not have allowed me in. My eyes scanned the room with careful precision, there was no movement or no sound. Yet, every instinct in my body screamed that I wasn’t alone. Then, something caught my attention, a tiny hole in the stone wall that light shone through. I moved toward it cautiously, crouching low until my eye aligned with the opening. I had a perfect, unobstructed view of the council meeting room. Chapter 114 Nyx’s POVThe café we met was a quiet, tucked-away place, the kind people used for shady dealings and whispered confessions. Dim lighting cast shadows over the small table between me and Valeria, who sat across from me, twirling her straw like a bored child. She hadn’t even touched her drink.I, on the other hand, sipped my coffee slowly, watching her fidget. Valeria must have always been the odd one out in Cassandra’s family, a pawn pretending to be a player. She wasn’t dangerous like her mother, but that didn’t mean she was harmless. However, she took her elegance from her mother. Such a pity that she's not as smart. “You dragged me all the way here, so spill it.” She huffed, crossing her arms, “What do you want, Nyx?”“Technically, I didn't drag you all the way here. You came because you were curious about what I wanted to ask so don't accuse me of what I didn't do.” I tilted my head slightly and before she said anything else, I continued, “A little information.
