This week, Ethan didn't continue to bother me, perhaps he was convinced that I wouldn't become the Wolf King's mate, so he was patiently waiting for that day.
Tomorrow is the gene screening, thinking about all this, my stomach felt like it was burned by gastric acid.
I didn't forget Bonnie's wish, I went to the mall.
I called Bonnie, but got her voicemail instead, so I chose to text her that I received her necklace. It was a luxurious piece of jewelry, the necklace was studded with small diamonds, with a large ruby in the center.
“Well, well.” A sickening voice I recognised garnering my attention.
Lifting my head to meet the wicked Benedict and Kylie. My jaw tenses at their vile faces, Kylie glances at the bag and she chuckles, “Trying to look pretty to entice a mate? Newsflash human, even that necklace wouldn’t be able to help you.”
Benedict smirks as they approach me, Kylie snatching the bag from my hand with ease. “I think this would look better on me, no need to waste such beauty on the likes of you.” She sneers.
“Give it back.” I demanded, my mouth tightening.
Kylie glared at me, “Humans can’t demand shit from us. Know your place.”
Glowering at them, Benedict pushing his finger against my forehead repeatedly, the spot starting to ache with the force. “Just because we aren’t at the Academy doesn’t mean you can disobey us. We own you human.” He seethed, his mouth curving into a snarl, “You are playthings for our amusement and even that your kind can’t accomplish. It’s pathetic that you even try, the world is our dominion, and you should fucking get on your knees and follow orders like a good human.”
Curling my hands into fists, simmering rage boiling my blood. Benedict continues, pushing me a couple steps back. Benedict was the cruellest of the five since he was the leader, he despised our kind even being allowed to exist on this planet. If it was up to him, we would all be dead.
I hear the ticking in my head, the last shards of my control slipping and my tongue itching to retaliate. “I don’t need to get on my knees and bow at your feet for anything. You don’t deserve that.” I spat in disdain, fire flaring in my eyes.
His nostrils flared; Kylie clicks her tongue, “Bitch, you have no idea what a privilege it is to be in our presence.”
Rolling my eyes, “I don’t think it’s anything special.” I respond dryly.
Immediately, Benedict raises his hand and smacks me, the fierce strength had my head turn to the side. My cheek flushed, burning from the sting. Every inch of my body began to vibrate, thrusted into an acrimonious inferno.
Benedict’s heavy breathing clogged my ears, people screeching to halt as the mall fell to a dead silence. “Lazarus de Loughrey granted you humans mercy, and you dare defy him and his people.” He growled bitterly.
Lazarus de Loughrey, the fucking Werewolf King.
Just his fucking name had my blood boiling, churning a dangerous poison of enmity. The de Loughrey family is royalty, Alpha of Alpha’s and the reason werewolves rose to power. Lazarus was crowned king at a young age, something unheard of from what I’ve read.
You would think a King wouldn’t bother with humans; his reign solely focused on his people. Except that wasn’t what happened, he inserted himself into our business and tortured humans for his own twisted enjoyment.
My father’s disappearance for all these years likely meant that he was dead, I studied our district during the year he went missing and to my surprise – King Lazarus made frequent visits to the pack that governed our district.
He was stealing humans under the radar, labelling it as mysterious disappearances and my father was one of his victims. I detested Lazarus and he suffered no consequences, he was worshipped instead. The reminder of how highly everyone thought of him, Benedict reiterating that I should be grateful to his majesty.
Fuck that. It only infuriated me further, a raging storm that was ready to crack and self-destruct.
I laughed, the sound menacing as I looked Benedict in the eye. “I wish I lived in your head, blindly following a greedy King who doesn’t care about anyone but himself. Everyone knows Lazarus only cares about himself and his family, you are merely his followers who will do his bidding because what else do you have going for you?” I shrugged dismissively, “Not much from the likes of it. You all peaked in high school and that’s as much attention as you are going to get.”
“You fucking bitch!” She screeched, smacking me in the same spot.
My cheek was throbbing, but I didn’t care, the satisfaction of watching their exasperated faces flush with embarrassment was all-too delightful and worth the pain. It became an addiction, once I opened the bottle – I couldn’t stop.
“You’re pathetic Benedict.” I said condescendingly, “It’s so obvious you want to be Lazarus, but let’s face it. You aren’t royal material; you act like a barbarian and royalty requires people with manners. They would never bother with the likes of you, it’s so obvious that’s why you overcompensate at the Academy.”
His nostrils flared, chocolate brown eyes glowing from his wolf. “You think I’m going to let you speak to me like that, you have no idea what you have done!” He shouted, veins protruding from his neck.
“What?” I quipped, cocking my head to the side with a grin, “Your fragile ego can’t handle the truth? Everyone knows you aren’t the leader; Archibald lets you think you have the power because he knows you throw girlish tantrums when you can’t get what you want.”
He curls his fingers into a fist before punching me so hard that black dots taint my vision. I knew the consequences of running my mouth, but it felt so fucking good to crush him. My head was pounding, and a sharp piercing sound punctured my ear drums, but I didn’t care because debasing them was sweetest medicine.
I smirk, purposely fixating on his dick in those dark jeans before meeting his vengeful glare. “The rumours were right about you; your intelligence matches your dick which everyone knows is tiny.” Pinching my index finger and thumb until there is a minuscule space between, “this small.” I taunt smugly. “I’m amazed girls fuck you to be honest, because clearly you wouldn’t be able to make them cum with that peanut.”
Everyone’s laughter drowns my senses, all my attention singled onto disgrace scoring his features. His mouth twisted into a snarl, fangs appearing as he roared, panting and emitting smoke from his nose like the beast he was.
This time when his fist collided with my face, it didn’t stop. He was relentless, forcing me to stumble until I fell onto the floor. Lightening shooting through my tailbone, Benedict yanks at my shirt and reigns another two punches. The metallic taste of blood floods my mouth, the excruciating pain in my face spreading like wildfire, pulling at my skin tightly.
Maniac laughter escaped my lips, spitting the blood onto the white tiles as I stare at him. “Is that the best you got? I guess even in strength you aren’t fit to be a werewolf because you hit like a bitch.” I snickered.
Benedict never had much self-control and was short-tempered, getting a rise out of him was easy. His boot started crushing my thighs, igniting a stabbing pain while he kicked my stomach repeatedly that I could taste the bile rising to my throat.
I laughed, the sound unrecognisable and boisterous from my burning lungs. If Benedict succeeded in beating me to death, then I wouldn’t have to go through the genetic screening and Benedict would face punishment.
Maybe this agony would be worth it. I recognised that blackhole of despair all too well, it was a lot like giving up.
“I know you can do better or are you just weak.” I goaded, breathlessly. “Archibald can do better than you.”
“Fucking bitch, think you are better than us. You are fucking NOTHING!” He barked, kicking and punching until my body withered in agony.
I coughed, pain piercing every fragment of my being. I felt myself losing consciousness, maybe this was what happened before you died. However, I wasn’t that lucky because Benedict suddenly stopped. My rapid heartbeat roaring in my ears, his voice sounding like he was underwater.
His spat onto my cheek like I was scum, “Your womb is the only thing of value to us, it’s the only reason I haven’t fucking killed you. Next time I see you, you better fucking run bitch.” He snarled in warning.
Kylie peers at me, pursing her lips into a mocking pout. “Aww, I really wished he would have killed you. Seeing your face everyday is nauseating.”
They leave and I’m left to drag myself out of the mall, each movement making me dizzy and my body screaming in pain.

Colton’s lips thinned, a simmering rage behind his eyes as he focused on the task of putting ointment on my cuts and another on my bruises. He had immediately done an X-ray upon my arrival, which showcased no broken bones.
My face was swollen, coloured in a mirage of black and purple bruises. Colton was stewing in silence, his features hardening into stone. “Colton.” I muttered thickly, “I-“
He looks at me with fury ablaze in his orbs, fuming as he spoke. “I need to report Benedict and Kylie for assault. This is unacceptable, they can’t just beat you to death and not face any sort of punishment.”
“It’s pointless.” I whisper lowly, my shoulders deflating.
We both knew that, even though Colton never wanted to admit it. Complaining about an assault on a human by a werewolf to the authorities would be pointless. I wasn’t surprised that the law wasn’t on my side, disappointment was slithering in my veins like poison.
My phone starts beeping continuously, swiping to see that another reminder popping up. The genetic screening was scheduled for tomorrow, and we were required to arrive promptly at 9AM.
Dread seeps into my stomach, a wave of nausea making me want to dry heave. I thought I could evade this horrid fate through death but even God wouldn’t grant me such mercy. I feel like I’m being swallowed by helplessness, stripped of any power because I was born with none.
I tried so hard to avoid the genetic screening, I tried so hard to fight back and it seems futile – unescapable.
Swallowing thickly, praying to whatever god would answer. ‘Please don’t make me anyone’s mate.’
Bellatrix SinclairToday would decide my fate, the genetic screening for the mate selection was taking place. Before I left the medical room last night, Colton had to administer a shot to prevent any swelling for the next forty-eight hours otherwise my face would have puffed like a blowfish. However, like this day, the bruises on my face were unescapable. An ugly swirl of purple and black colouring my cheeks and stretching to my left eye, quickly applying an entire tube of concealer over them.I couldn’t have any imperfections. For the genetic screening, humans were required to be pristine in order to make the choice easier for werewolves. Reiterating the notion that they were truly vain, only caring about appearances instead of what truly mattered.Giving myself a onceover in the mirror, the thick layer of concealer I put on my skin made it impossibly pale, making me appear sickly. Rummaging through the mess on my table, snatching the contour and carving more defined cheekbones, bron
Bellatrix SinclairFuck no, the universe was playing a twisted a game and I wasn’t going to be a part of it.Under the intensity of his intimidating gaze, I declare, “I, Bellatrix Sinclair, reject you, Lazarus de Loughrey, as my mate.”Everyone gasps in shock while I lost all ability to breathe. His obsidian eyes burned with the essence of rage, “You think you can reject me human.” He snarled menacingly, “You are mine if I want you. Humans don’t get to oppose the Mate Selection; you don’t have a choice.”Trepidation was rapidly consuming me from the revelation that I was the Werewolf King’s human mate, however his words had shattered the cloud of dread. Now I was fucking pissed. My blood was boiling, igniting a fire in my belly that spread like wildfire.“And whose fault is that?” I snapped unconsciously with a bitter tone.Lazarus’s eyes darkened malevolently; sparks explode from his fingertips as they curl around my bicep with a punishing grip that I can’t escape from as he drags me
Bellatrix Sinclair“You are not my master.” I rebuffed sharply, yanking my hand away.Rubbing my thighs together that were greeted by dampness. I stood by my words although I would wallow in self-loathing another day. In this moment, I was completely entranced by his malevolent beauty. The personification of darkness in the flesh.“Is that so?” he returned, his orbs glittering with excitement, “I think you might like it.”Arching a brow as my jaw tensed, ‘Why would I want you to control me when your kind has been doing it for centuries.” I seethed, his ignorance only fuelling my hatred.Lazarus’s regarded me through lowered lashes, his callous fingertips caressing my thighs, stretching higher until my dress bunched at the waist. His eyes darted to my lacy panties, “Lies will get you cursed Bellatrix.” He inhaled, shutting his eyes for a second. When he opened them, pupils dilated as they pierced my own. It was magnetic, hot-blooded – dangerous. If I touched the flames, it would destro
Bellatrix SinclairHis features hardened ominously, an eerie silence between us as I refuse to answer. His eyes became a bottomless pit of destruction, controlled in its cataclysm as he examined the bruises. Gently brushing his knuckles against my cheek, the touch soft and delicate like a feather.“Who did this to you?” he asked again in a low voice.Pressing my lips tightly together, swallowing the names. I’m not a fool to think Lazarus cares about me, I’ve begrudged the notion of others saving me. Only I can save myself and I’ve handled the bullying thus far. “None of your business.” I grit through my teeth in response, not meeting his gaze.“I’m giving you one more chance, tell me.” he demands aggressively, “Tell me Bellatrix.”I scoff, frustrated. “I don’t need to tell you anything, it’s none of your business.”I knew my place with Lazarus, a human mate that he only saw as a slave to his desires. “The deal was to give you an heir, not to give you my secrets.” I said, my voice asse
Lazarus de Loughrey“You have a human mate.” Her voice laced with sweet venom, “Now you will produce an heir.”“Time is ticking.” He threatened with a polished tone. “Lazarus, this is your final chance.”“I will fulfil my duties.” I replied mechanically. The other female releases a deranged laugh, her high-pitched voice grating on my nerves. “You’ve said that before. I heard human mates’ fertility skyrockets when mating with a wolf. It’s perfect for breeding, even you can’t fuck this up.”Their voices echoed within the pavilion, their faces concealed within the shadows, they were known as The Syndicate. Comprised of seven Elders graced with immortality, unknown to the public and I was never granted the privilege of seeing their faces or their names.Everyone assumed I wasn’t governed by rules, and that I had access to immeasurable power without consequences. I answer to The Syndicate, I follow their rules and regulations without any voice of my own.I detested the Syndicate, they deem
Bellatrix SinclairStudying the collar closely in the mirror, built of thick metal that wrapped seamlessly around my throat. I felt suffocated the more I stared at it, curling my fingers underneath to search for anything that would unlock it. At the base of my throat I felt a textured square, it felt like a microchip.Lazarus wasn’t lying, there is a bomb in this collar. In the weapons departments, there were many instances that I had to deal with bombs therefore I knew how to get out of this. If I could get the chip out without triggering the bomb, then the collar will unlock automatically.Rummaging through Lazarus bedroom and bathroom for anything that could pry the chip out of the collar. After a solid ten minutes of nothing, I opted for the letter opener at his nightstand. The edges were still sharp, I had to be careful that I don’t apply too much pressure and accidently plunge it into my throat.Returning to the mirror and sliding the letter opener between the gap in my collar u
Lazarus de LoughreyRunning my hand along her soft thighs, her exquisite body made for my ruin. The taste of her submission was sublime, purring as her muscles laxed under me. That insatiable fire that roared to life for her, desperate for her like an addict.Staring into those captivating sapphires that were clouded in passion, lids drooping from the multiple orgasms. Bellatrix’s bruised lips were too enticing, sparks igniting on mine as they craved hers. Pressing my lips against her neck, sucking and biting until I’ve marked her even more. A buzzing under my skin as she moaned in ecstasy, obeying as I squeezed her perfect breasts.“Lazarus.” She moaned softly.I want to fuck her endlessly, I want to fuck her so hard that her pretty pussy cannot handle anymore, I want her soaking these sheets again and begging for me even when she’s too sore.Bellatrix exhaled. I fucked her almost three times and I still wanted more. She gave me control of her body, spreading those delectable thighs
Bellatrix SinclairI stare at the skimpy maid’s uniform on the bed, blinking profusely to make it disappear. He really thought of everything to make it even sluttier, thigh-high socks and chunky black heels. Lazarus strolled out of his walk-in-closet, fully dressed in a three-piece suit.He looked sexier than I anticipated in midnight blue, emitting this powerful aura that demanded your attention.Shaking my head, I cannot be this weak in his presence. “What the fuck is this?” I pointed.“That is what you are required to wear.” He responded casually.Narrowing my eyes, “Are you insane, this outfit reveals everything. I can’t even bend down without my ass showing.”Lazarus flashes that twisted smile at me. “That will be a sight to behold.”“Lazarus.” I snapped. His obsidian orbs shimmered with mischief as he stepped towards me, “I think you are forgetting your place here. You are my slave Bellatrix; you serve me in any way I see fit and for now – I want to see this beautiful body in th
Lazarus De LoughreyI trusted Bellatrix to handle herself, however it didn’t mean that I wanted to leave her alone.Elias Harrison was the first Alpha to support my succession to the throne which garnered my respect, something that the other Alpha’s aren’t privileged to. I respected his opinions and let him express his grievances without being filtered. He’s one of the only Alpha’s who doesn’t strictly follow the Iron Laws, combining the Darkmoon Tribe with the Red District. They lived in a harmonious environment which made me much more lenient to chastise him.“You spoke of recent trading regarding witches.” I began, taking a seat.Elias handed over a folder and at first glance, the paperwork involved a detailed analysis of profitability while highlighting the aid it will provide to the soldiers at the border. “Approximately 30% will be given to the soldiers.”“That steep, even for you.”“They offered more than I anticipated, and I wasn’t going to object.”Skimming through the papers
Bellatrix Sinclair“Impressed you how?” I said dryly, aggravated by this obvious ridicule.Lazarus strolled towards me, his gaze sparkling devilishly while the edges of his lips lifted subtly. “You were quick on your feet; your reaction time is faster than I anticipated, and your combat skills are impressive.”Narrowing my gaze, “I sense a but. You never give compliments without critics.”He smiled, “You know me well,” taking a lock of my hair and gently playing with it. “Xander was a stroke of luck, what are you going to do if it’s someone of my size.”I swallowed, a fluttering initiating in my chest at his actions, they were distracting, and I’ve noticed that he’s been doing it frequently. “Utilize my skills-“Before I could speak, he grabbed my hand and twisted my body until my back was plastered against his chest. His grip tightened on my right hand, “Now what are you going to do?” he whispered into my ear that cause goosebumps to arise.Making a move to elbow him in the stomach w
Bellatrix SinclairI stared at the royal tester convulsing on the floor, his eyes rolling back. “Call the emergency doctor.” Lazarus instructed calmly, “Place him in the infirmary immediately and monitor his condition.”The guards carry the royal tester out of the dining room, Lazarus whispers something to Karina who takes the plate of food away. I’m momentarily stunned at what transpired, it happened in the blink of an eye.“W-why do you have royal taster?” I blurted, “You never had one before-““I’ve always had one.” Lazarus stated, getting up without eating nor drinking anything on the table. “When you prepared my meals, I didn’t need one.” His lips curled into a devilish grin as he teased, “Where was a human going to get poison here?”“Poison…” I mumbled. It’s been two days since I saw the lengths these assassins will go to in order to kill him. There was approximately three today and it wasn’t even noon.Trailing behind Lazarus, completely absorbed in my own thoughts that I hadn’
Bellatrix SinclairOur eyes were locked in a trance, dread churned like acid in my stomach. I’ve never seen such violence, such bloodshed – it was disturbing. His sinister smile was even more terrifying stained by blood. “Are you scared Ma Cherie?”Lazarus strode towards me, malevolence dancing in his eyes. “You should be. This is what happens when people think they can try and kill me.”The pressure intensified in my chest as he lifted his hand, bloody tainted fingers twirling a lock of my hair. He was completely engrossed, his words soft and lethal. “So beautiful and I’ve tainted you.”“Who was that?” I blurted in question, despite the fear slithering in my veins like poison. He tilts his head, his gaze shrouded in darkness. “Concerned?”Swallowing the lump forming in my throat, a spillage of truth in his words.“An assassin.” Lazarus answered, his hand falling. “Many people want me dead Ma Cherie, you are just another person added to the list.”I blinked, a speck of desolation flic
Bellatrix Sinclair“This is the budget for the Royal Guards attending the borders, King Lazarus as expressed his interest on increasing the food and weapons supply for the patrollers as well as the compensation packages for the ones who have passed.” Judah explained each document thoroughly, transferring them into three separate folders. “He might sign off on them.”“No problem.” I say, clutching the folders to my chest. “Valeria went to the borders?”“Yes.”Shit. I didn’t even get to say goodbye. “How long?”Judah reads another document, stamping the pages with a royal mark. “Indefinately. They are required to monitor and provide feedback before taking action.”Being Lazarus assistant had it’s advantages, I was privy to information regarding the inner workings of his system. Majority of the fundings for each Kingdom was provided by Lazarus personally, something I was shocked by.“Can I ask you something?” I hesitated when he nodded. “Doesn’t The Syndicate fund the Kingdoms.”He looks
Bellatrix SinclairI narrowed my eyes at him. “They are your people. Are you saying that you don’t trust them?”He scoffed at my insolence. “In the essence of life, you are prey among predators.”“My skills have proven different. I can be the predator just as much as you.” I smirked, my voice sweet and condescending.Lazarus eyes sparkled poisonously, flooding my bloodstream with the toxic substance of his evil tendencies. “Ma Cherie,” his voice smooth like whiskey, “you have to be more vicious than this if you ever want to be a predator.”Entranced by those pitch-black orbs, a dark tower looming over me with vile intent. Arching a challenging brow, “I can pull the trigger.” I say, “Your rules restrict me from acting on those impulses.”His fingers sears through my cheek, catching a lock of my hair and twirling it around his finger. “Fear is more lethal than poison.” He stated. “The prospect of death doesn’t scare you, but your fear holds you back more than I do.”“Don’t act like you
Bellatrix Sinclair“The Golden Spa.” I read. “This certainly wasn’t what I expected.”Valeria smirks, squinting her eyes playfully. “Did you think something dirty?”“N-no.”She chuckled, “You totally did.” Nudging me gently, “Loosen up, this is supposed to be fun.”I wanted to be at ease, except the truth remained that I only came this district once with Lazarus. This was a completely new experience, uncharted territory because I’m venturing into werewolf’s domain as the only human without any semblance of power.A tightening initiated in my chest, searing my lungs and making it difficult to swallow. Anxiously bouncing from one foot to the other, Valeria placing a comforting hand onto my shoulder. “It’s going to be fine, I’m here.” She smiled reassuringly.Considering our first encounter was a disaster, I found myself believing her sincerity. The spa was in the central district, a different location and Valeria informed that there are various sections that make-up this place.Pushing
Bellatrix SinclairHis voice brought upon tranquillity, something I’ve lost in Lazarus presence.“Did I hear you correctly?” Emmett repeated. “During the Mate Selection, you were matched to King Lazarus?”“Yes.”“So you are his mate?”“Apparently.” Mates were divine connections for werewolves, a blessing from their Moon Goddess.Emmett released an exasperated breath, “I don’t think you realise what you are in for.”Rolling my eyes. “My priority is getting out of here. We are on the same page; we don’t want anything to do with each other.”“Angel.” His sullen tone murmured, “He might say all that, but I read somewhere that a werewolf cannot resist a mate bond. It’s an intertwining of souls, something you cannot fight.”I chuckled. “Good thing I’m not a werewolf, I don’t feel that connection.”He grew suspiciously silent. “Hello? Emmett?”He whispered in question. “Do you really feel nothing for him?”Goosebumps arose on my skin, ice coursing through my veins because why was I consideri
Bellatrix SinclairThere was a significant shift in his mood when he returned, a melancholy cloud looming over his head while his rage simmered to the surface.“The Vampire Diaries again.” Christian groaned, plopping down next to Valeria and stealing her batch of buttery popcorn. They all wave me off casually, engrossed in Elena’s discovery of being Katherina’s doppelganger. My focus was completely on Lazarus, he raced past without a second glance, yanking off his tie. “Lazarus.” I called, but he presses forward without a response.Trudging into his room, readying to slam the door in my face. “What the hell Lazarus!” I shouted, evading the attack. He tore off his jacket, frantically running his fingers through his hair. “Just leave Bellatrix.”“No. I’m not leaving.” I declared, shaking my head. “This obviously has something to do with The Syndicate.”“DONT!” He snapped, turning around and his eyes darkened, “You don’t get to ask me questions on what goes on there.”“Maybe I don’t have
