Caleb keeps running his hands over my body, his chest purring, and the pain becomes more tolerable. All the times I thought about experiencing my first heat, I truly believed my mate would be with me, helping me. But not only is Jordan not with me, the slap he gave me that night still stings. What stings the most, though, is the mark of the Betrayer he put on me.

Touching my right shoulder with the tip of my fingers, I whisper, “Fuck Jordan.”

We stayed in there for hours until the sun was gone. Caleb takes me back to the bedroom and lies with me, spooning. The pain is still bad, but the nonstop purring and touching are helping.
