Chapter 36 " We’ve done all we can"

Hudson POV

I couldn't process what was happening. She wasn’t supposed to be here.

Move! she screamed, my wolf howled inside me in pain, as I was frozen.

Selena jumped in front of me.

I watched in horror as her small frame leaped in front of me, as a shield. She took the rod which was aimed directly for my heart. It all seemed to happen in slow motion.

I heard her cry out in pain, a sound that ripped through me like a thousand knives. The world around me snapped back into focus. Her body lay still in my arms, her blood already staining my skin.

“No!” I roared, the sound tearing from my throat. My hands clutched her, desperate to pull her up, to see if she was still breathing. My heart hammered in my chest, rage and fear colliding in a storm I couldn’t control.

“Selena, no…” My voice broke, panic clawing at me as I gently turned her over. Her face was pale, but her eyes fluttered open, just for a moment, enough to meet mine.

“I…I am sorry,” she whispered, her voice weak, breathless.
