If you look at the start of the chapters… you can see the app’s chapter number, and then on most you can see the author’s chapter number (which by this point is considerably lower). For example the next chapter is 78 for the app, but only 59 for the author. The app is dividing chapters for profit.

Although the 3 others understand the importance of safety I think only Mason and Deacon have the maturity to see the full picture with all its dangers and consequences.

Mason being an empath make the abuse he suffer a 100 times worse than you throw in his feelings for Josie and Theo just creates a spontaneous combustion for him. When he is forced to open his feelings is when he's having sex with Josie which is his most vulnerable moments.
