Chapter 32

Nicholas felt a stinging sensation as she threw her ring at him, the gold band glinting in the light before it hit him squarely in the face.

"Our 6 month contract is over," she continued, her voice cold and detached. "I cannot live with you in this marriage any longer."

Nicholas stood there, frozen in shock as Sarah turned and walked away. He felt like he was watching his world crumble around him, like everything he thought he knew was being torn apart.

His mother rushed to his side, her face etched with concern. "Stop it, Nicholas, do something," she urged, tugging on his arm.

But Nicholas knew it was too late. He knew that he had lost Sarah, that she was gone for good. This was what was written in his fate; this was the consequence of his actions.

He felt a sense of resignation wash over him—a sense of defeat. He knew that he couldn't change the past, couldn't undo the hurt he had caused.
