There was a lot of tension in Levi's private office. The walls were covered in long shadows, and the shining glass and polished wood surfaces were given a subdued glow by the low illumination. With a crisp silhouette against the setting light, Levi stood at the enormous window that overlooked the metropolitan skyline. His jaw was set, his shoulders stiff—signs I recognized as barely contained fury.

“I’m going to ask this once,” Levi said, his voice quiet, dangerously calm. “And I suggest you don’t lie to me.”

One of Levi's closest aides, Alan Prescott, squirmed uneasily in front of him. The beads of perspiration on his forehead caught the dim light, making his fitted suit appear ill-fitting.

Alan answered, his eyes betraying him, but his voice calm, "I don't know what you're talking about, Levi."

Levi slowly turned, his eyes sharp. "You have no idea what I'm discussing? That's intriguing because I mentioned your name to one of our most recent assailants right before he passed out.

The hours that followed stretched on like a nightmare from which I was unable to awaken. There was a thin layer of mutual trust between Levi and myself, a delicate understanding that could break at any time. This damn syndicate, my mother’s secrets, and the web of lies surrounding everything were suffocating me. I needed air, space, but the walls were closing in.We'd just finished going through the intel from Alan—his confession about feeding information to the syndicate was a cold slap to the face. He'd named names, places, schedules everything that had put us in danger, and more. But there was one thing Alan didn’t know, something that gnawed at the back of my mind.Levi’s betrayal was a double-edged sword. Yes, he'd been hurt, he'd been vulnerable, but he’d also shut down parts of himself that I'd relied on to make him someone I could trust. I knew it wasn’t fair to be angry about it—he was just as much a victim as I was but we were both in deep now. Our bond was forged in the fir

As if the walls themselves were closing in, the penthouse's oppressive, suffocating air served as a continual reminder of the seriousness of the situation we were in. Little solace was provided by the flashing city lights outside, which stood in stark contrast to the gloom roiling inside my head. My phone was still clutched in my hand, the cold, unforgiving screen reflecting the weight of Livia’s words. She hadn’t just threatened me; she’d cast her shadow over everything—my mother’s legacy, the syndicate, and, if I wasn’t careful, everything I had left.I was beyond scared. Fear didn’t even scratch the surface. I was sinking into something far worse, a quiet despair, where I knew knew I was running out of time.Levi, standing at the door, broke my train of thought. His presence was almost too much to bear, but it was also the only thing that kept me grounded.“Livia again?” His voice was rough, raw, but controlled. Always controlled.I glanced at him, my eyes narrowing. “Yeah, and she

The unresolved between us have made the air in the room heavy and heavier than normal. My chest tightens not because of the intrusion into my accounts or the terrifying message I got. It's the look on Eliana’s face. Her lips are pressed together, tense, holding in something. She's good at that—at keeping things contained until they can't be contained anymore.I step forward, as if closing the space between us will somehow make it all easier to say. “Eliana...” I start, the words sounding weaker than I intended. “I got a message last night. From them. From Aurora.”She doesn't wince or display the astonishment I anticipated. Rather, she looks at me as if she's been anticipating this and knew it would happen. She asks, "What did it say?" in a flat yet piercing voice that breaks the lull between us. "Remain calm or she will perish." With a bad taste in my mouth, I repeat.. “It’s a direct threat. They’re making it clear they’re willing to hurt you if I don’t play by their rules.”Eliana’

The warehouse smells like something forgotten, a mixture of rust, concrete, and old memories. The walls, scarred and chipped, are the last remnants of a place that once held purpose. Now, it feels hollow. As though the structure itself is alive with expectation, waiting for something to happen, every creak and moan causes the hairs on the back of my neck to stand on edge. My steps are measured. Aim for a moderate speed. Every motion is measured, and every sound is taken into consideration. I feel as though the shadows are closing in on me, silently listening to every breath I take. As I move more into the huge emptiness, I can feel the eerie silence and the predatory vibes in the air. I calm myself as I stop by a pile of old crates, the dust heavy in the air. Too loud and too exposed, my breath fills the room. My instincts tell me to go back, I need to see this through, even if it kills me.And then I hear it.A soft chuckle. Low and deliberate, like she’s been waiting for me all alon

The air outside the warehouse is colder than I remember. Or maybe it just feels that way after standing face-to-face with someone who embodies every betrayal I’ve ever known. My footsteps echo against the cracked pavement as I make my way toward the black SUV parked under a flickering streetlight. Levi’s men are waiting, their sharp gazes scanning the empty street, hands resting on their holsters. I slip into the backseat without a word. Levi’s on the other side, his presence taking up more space than it should in the confined car. The sharp cut of his jaw is visible even in the dim interior light, his face a mask of unreadable tension. He doesn’t look at me right away, but I feel the weight of his awareness like a shadow stretching across the car.“Well?” His voice is low, clipped. Controlled. the sort of quiet that precedes a storm. I stare straight ahead as I recline on the leather seat. My response is straightforward: "She works for Aurora." His eyes narrow in a manner that give

Before Levi's estate, the SUV screams to a stop. It's a fortress with tall iron gates, closely spaced guards, and cameras covering the entire site. However, none of it seems sufficient. Not after tonight's events. Even though the house's lights shine brightly, I'm uneasy as I venture outside into the chilly night air. As we pass through the main doors, Levi and I walk in unison, our stress evident but temporarily put on hold.Inside, Levi motions for his team to follow him. His head of security, Mateo, appears in seconds, clipboard in hand, his face a mixture of tension and frustration.“Report,” Levi barks.“Nothing significant on the perimeter, but the encrypted message came through one of our private servers. Someone’s in our system,” Mateo says grimly. “We’re tracing it, but whoever it is knows how to cover their tracks.”“They always do,” Levi mutters. He rubs his jaw, frustration seeping into every movement. “Double the encryption protocols. I want every outgoing and incoming co

Perhaps it's just me, but the home feels cooler than usual. Every step I take reverberates in the quiet, reflecting off of walls that seem too big and empty. With a gentle click that conveys the weight of all the unsaid tension between us, Levi's receding figure vanishes inside his study. It's better this way, I tell myself. Distance. Space. It's time to relax. In actuality, though, the silence is oppressive. My hand shakes so much that part of the wine spills onto the marble as I pour a glass from the decanter on the counter. White on red. The way Livia's lipstick glistened in the fading light as she gave her order brings back memories of the warehouse. The way her voice cut through me, sharp and certain. Walk away from him, she’d said, and I’ll tell you everything.I down the wine in one gulp, the burn doing nothing to dull the knot in my stomach. What if she’s right? The thought comes unbidden, unwanted, but there it is. What if staying with Levi means I’ll never get the answers

The ledger burns a hole in my bag the entire ride home. It feels alive and pulsating with secrets I'm not yet ready to face, and the weight is more than just physical. I can barely breathe by the time I arrive into the driveway since every mile near the estate feels like a countdown to some unavoidable explosion. With wary yet unimpressed glances, the guards gesture me through. They’ve been on edge since the assassination attempt, their ranks tightened, protocols stricter. Levi’s orders, no doubt. He’s paranoid now, but then again, so am I. The house is quiet, save for the low hum of the security system. I slip through the hallways like a ghost, my footsteps muffled by the thick rugs. The ledger feels impossibly heavy in my hands as I make my way to the study. I lock the door behind me and sit at the desk, the dim light casting shadows across the cracked leather cover. I flip it open. It’s worse than I imagined. The entries are detailed, meticulous. Dates. Amounts. Recipients. My moth

Years had passed since the day we fought for freedom, for peace, and for the life we have now. The life we had dreamed of for so long but never dared to imagine in the depth of our darkest days. Our home was no longer a symbol of chaos or fear—it was a sanctuary. The walls that once echoed with tension now hummed with the laughter of our children and the soft murmur of conversations that held no weight of the past. It was a place of peace, of love, of family.Levi stood by the window, looking out over the vast grounds of our estate. The sun was setting, casting a warm, golden light over everything. He had always been the protector, the one who looked out for everyone, but now, as I watched him from behind, I saw the shift. The years had softened him in ways I hadn't expected. His gaze, once sharp and filled with purpose, now held a quiet w

We stood together, the weight of the world no longer pressing down on us. For the first time in what felt like forever, I could finally see the horizon ahead—clear, unobstructed, and full of promise. The past had been a storm, one we’d weathered with everything we had, but now the skies were calm, the air sweet with the scent of new beginnings.Levi’s hand found mine, his fingers wrapping around mine with that familiar, comforting strength. We had come so far, from the darkness of a life we never asked for, to this—this quiet, peaceful moment where everything felt right. We had built a life together, piece by piece, through the pain and the loss, through every challenge that had come our way. And now, we were free.I looked down at our son, sleeping peacefully in Levi’s arms, his tiny chest rising and falling with every breath. He was a symbol of everything we had fought for, everything we had dreamed of. He was our future, and that

The world had changed for us. For the first time in a long while, I could breathe without the weight of the past suffocating me. Levi and I, side by side, were finally at peace. The endless battles, the constant fight for survival, all of it felt like it was behind us. There was no more running, no more hiding. We had built something together, something we never thought we’d have: a life that was free of fear, full of hope, and, most importantly, full of love.I watched Levi as he stood by the window, his hands resting lightly on the sill. The evening sun bathed him in a warm golden light, casting long shadows across the room. His face, once hardened by years of war and loss, now wore a calmness that I hadn’t thought possible. There were lines on his face, yes, but they were no longer lines of anger or sorrow. They were lines of experience, of wisdom. He had lived through so much, and yet, now, in this quiet moment, he was at peace. We both were.I leaned a

Levi held the envelope in his hands, his fingers tracing the edges of it as if unsure whether to open it. The silence was heavy between us, each of us waiting for him to make the first move. I could feel the weight of the moment pressing down on me. I had never expected to find myself in this situation, not with Levi’s mother standing before us, and certainly not with her holding something that could change everything. The tension was palpable, and for a moment, it felt like the room itself was holding its breath.I glanced at Levi, who was still staring down at the envelope, his jaw tense, his mind clearly processing everything. It wasn’t just the content of the letter that he was contemplating; it was the years of abandonment, of unanswered questions, of the emptiness that his mother had left in his life. No matter how much he tried to shield himself from it, the truth about her absence, the reason why she had walked away all those years ago, was something that

The days after our vow renewal passed in a peaceful blur. For the first time in what felt like forever, there were no enemies at the gates, no secrets threatening to tear us apart. There was only the present—the quiet, intimate moments we shared as a family. Levi and I spent hours talking about our future, about the life we were going to build for our son. We reflected on all we had endured to get to this point, but even more so on the love we had for each other and the trust that had grown between us.In these moments, I felt a sense of calm that was foreign to me. In the past, I had always been on edge, waiting for the next betrayal, the next threat to arise. But now, in the safety of our home, with our son sleeping peacefully in his crib, I allowed myself to feel what I had always longed for—peace.Levi and I shared a quiet dinner one evening, the soft glow of the lights illuminating the room. Our son was asleep in his room, and for the first time,

As I watched Levi hold our son, the weight of everything that had happened seemed to melt away. It was hard to believe that just months ago, we were fighting for survival, struggling with betrayals, with enemies lurking at every corner. And now here we were, in a hospital room, surrounded by the soft hum of machines and the faint scent of antiseptic, with our child between us. I couldn’t remember a time when I had felt more at peace.Levi had always been the force of nature, the leader who commanded respect, but here, in this moment, I saw a side of him I hadn’t truly known before. The man I thought I understood—cold, calculated, driven by the mission—was now softened, changed by the simple act of holding our child. Our son, our little miracle, had transformed him in ways I didn’t think were possible.I turned my head to look at him, my hand resting gently on his arm. He was staring down at the baby with a soft expression on his face, his

The moment Levi held our baby for the first time was one I would never forget. I had seen him strong, cold, ruthless in battle, and yet here, in the quiet, dimly lit hospital room, all that faded away. It was just him, me, and the tiny life we had created together. His arms were gentle, yet his grip was firm, as if he were afraid to let go, as if the very idea of losing this moment, losing this piece of him, terrified him more than anything else. His face was soft, his eyes filled with a vulnerability I had never seen before. He looked at our child with a kind of reverence, his gaze intense and full of awe.“I never thought…” Levi’s voice faltered, thick with emotion, and for the first time, I saw the cracks in his armor. His gaze flickered from the baby to me, and there was a shift in him, something profound. “I never thought I could feel like this. So... so helpless. But in the best way. This... this little one has already changed

The world around me was a blur of motion, flashes of light and darkness, the steady beep of machines blending with the sound of Levi’s voice. He was calling my name, his hand gripping mine tightly, but everything felt distant, as though I was floating somewhere far from him.“Eliana, stay with me,” he said, his voice strained, as though it was costing him everything to speak. I could hear the panic there, the fear, but there was something else too—something I hadn’t heard before. Something raw. His hand tightened around mine, and I tried to squeeze back, but my fingers felt heavy, sluggish. I couldn’t focus, couldn’t stay present. My body felt foreign to me, as though I was losing control of it.“Eliana,” Levi’s voice broke through again, more urgent this time. “I need you to stay with me. Just a little longer, please.”I tried to respond, but no words came. Instead, I felt the p

I wasn’t sure how long we’d been fighting, but it felt like hours, maybe days. Each moment blurred into the next as we moved, fought, and fought some more. The Rossettis, Livia, even Mr. Rossetti—they had been obstacles, pieces of the puzzle, but they weren’t the true threat. They were pawns, caught in a game they didn’t understand. It was always her. Levi’s twin sister. I had sensed it all along, but I hadn’t been able to put the pieces together until now. Every step we had taken, every move, it had all been leading us to her. She was the one who orchestrated this entire nightmare. The Rossettis had been too predictable, too visible. It had been her, pulling the strings from behind the scenes. And now, as we stood on the precipice of everything we had fought for, it became clear. She was here. She was the storm we had been trying to survive, and now it was time to face it head-on. Levi’s anger was palpable beside me. I could feel the tension in his every muscle, the way he gripp
