Chapter 4 Feed Her Well

The scenes of what happened in the casino kept flashing in her mind. Kinsey's hands quivered out of nervousness and Brandon had cupped her chin before she knew it.

"Stay focused, little bride. Every guest is watching." He murmured to remind her calmly, making her unable to read the emotions under his eyes.

Did he recognize her?

Kinsey couldn't help but wonder, but his lips pressed on hers, and she voluntarily reacted. It wasn't their first kiss, but this time, Kinsey felt like kissing a wall, unlike that night he devoured her passionately.

He didn't recognize her, did he? Kinsey was inexplicably a little lost. But wasn't it better for her? The Simons family wouldn't have approved of the marriage if they'd known she'd been a waitress at the casino. Connor's medical bills would have been canceled as well.

A loud clapping took Kinsey out of her reverie. Brandon politely held her hand, facing the guests. She hadn't seen him smile since the beginning of the ceremony.

Looking at the perfect couple standing together, Blair was so jealous that her nails nearly pinched her palms to bleed. The rumors fooled her! It was said that Brandon Simons was an incredibly ugly and uneducated scoundrel. That's why she had refused without a second thought when the Simons family proposed.

Blair was expecting to mock Kinsey for the rest of her life when she suggested her mother force Kinsey into this horrible marriage. But now, the reality was a hard slap on her face. That fancy wedding dress, as well as the handsome groom, should belong to her both, but she mistakenly vaulted them to Kinsey that bitch! She was green with anger.

Olive looked terrible but was a little more composed than her daughter. She patted her hand, "Don't worry. Brandon was only a half-exiled son of the Simons. Different from Gordon, who's the rightful heir to a great family. "

Her mother's words woke her up. Blair looked down at her belly, where the heir to Gordon was lying. 'Mother is right,' she nodded to herself. Kinsey could never defeat her because she would only be dragged into the mire of poverty by her useless husband.

What good was a handsome face without money or power? With that thought, she smiled in satisfaction, trying to take Gordon's hand but accidentally realizing that he was also staring at the couple, with solid jealousy in his eyes.

In an instant, Blair lost sane in anger and couldn't wait to embarrass Kinsey.

"Hey, Brandon," she approached the newlywed couple with her arms locked to Gordon's. "I'm Blair, Kinsey's sister."

Brandon glanced faintly at the hand Blair held out for a handshake but didn't bother to touch it.

'What?' Blair cursed inside as she stomped on her feet. She was used to stealing thunder from Kinsey, but this guy just ignored her as nothing. No wonder he had become an unwanted son of the Simons.

Blair quickly squeezed out a fake smile trying to knock them down from another aspect. "Brandon, I heard you're having difficulty getting a decent job. What's your plan now that you're married to Kinsey?" Blair pretended to ask curiously, hard to hide the sarcasm in her tone.

Protective instinct kicked in and Kinsey cleared her throat, "I'm sure our plan is none of your business. I have faith that we can run our marriage well together." She interlaced her hand with Brandon's, showing how affectionate she was as a wife.

Blair sneered, taking it only as her bluffing. It was all believed that Brandon would be abandoned by the family soon after he built his own family. Kinsey would soon be homeless and poor with him.

"Oh really? I hope you will not run back to us crying for money too soon." Blair laughed as she covered her mouth and added, "Don't be fooled by her skinny body. It cost us a lot of money to feed her."

"Of course. I have faith to feed my lovely wife well. She might be skinny but she's perfect I know." Brandon winked at Kinsey, making her blush as it reminded her of that passionate night. He did feed her well. But in a very different way.

The endearment between the two somehow pierced Gordon's eyes. His jaw tightened in anger and extended a business card to Brandon.

"If you ever need a good job, I can help. I'm Gordon, Blair's fiance and...a friend of Kinsey." His words were addressed to Brandon but his eyes never left Kinsey. Brandon almost immediately sensed the undercurrents between them.

Taking this moment, Blair chimed in. "Oh honey, I know! Maybe Brandon could be a janitor in your building. What a perfect offer!" She said it exaggeratedly, unable to hide the smugness in her look.

Irritation crossed Kinsey's face but before she could speak, Brandon took the initiative.

"I have my own plans. I won't be anyone's pawn despite lacking an impressive diploma," Brandon declared yet with a hint of defiance in his voice.

"You better prove that, Brandon. Kinsey deserves the best," Gordon gritted yet Brandon was undeterred.

He smiled confidently at his little bride, "I know what she deserves and I'll make it real." The way he looked at her with such affection that one could mistake them for a passionate couple in love for years. Gordon couldn't help but ball his fists, feeling the urge to clear the truth that her past was only with him.

"The car's here, sir," a man announced, breaking the standoff.

"We should go now." Without waiting for the others to speak more, Brandon led Kinsey straight out of the church.

Kinsey could feel Gordon's eyes still clingy on her back but the past was past. Brandon Simons, the one now she was holding his arm was her present and future.

Kinsey couldn't hide her amazement when she got into the luxurious car. The plush leather seats and the sleek interior were far beyond what she was accustomed to. It must cost a lot.

"Brandon, where did you get this car?" she inquired, her eyes wide with wonder.

Brandon chuckled, a wry smile playing on his lips. "Well, I borrowed it from a friend."

"You don't have to do all this," Kinsey remarked, concern etching her face. "We can work together and build a life practically. Fancy cars and expensive things don't matter. What matters is our commitment to each other," she pursed her lips after saying that. She might be overreacting.

Brandon looked at Kinsey with surprise. He wasn't expecting Kinsey to say something like that. Most women around him craved money and enjoyment. As soon as they heard that he was an incompetent pauper, they ran away in fear. He wasn't going to accept this marriage arranged by his Grandpa originally.

"You're right." He agreed, "Practicality is essential. But sometimes, a little luxury doesn't hurt. It's like a reminder that life can be good."

Brandon was the first man who had said that to Kinsey. She only lived a good life when Alexa was still alive. She had hoped Gordon would eventually give her a good life after her long bullying from the mother-and-daughter duo, but he also betrayed her. Would this setup with Brandon last for a long time? It seems all her happiness is short-lived.

"Thank you, Brandon. For a good start, I will try hard to find a new job," she said with a bright smile.

"What kind of job?" Brandon asked as he supported his chin with one hand. "As a waitress at a casino?"

She couldn't help but look away, "I... I meant regular jobs. Not... not what you're thinking!"

The smirk on his face widened, "So, you admit it was you that night?"

Her eyes instantly widened at his words, "I...I don't understand what-"

"Don't try to trick me, Miss Gates." He suddenly approached, and the strong aura cut off her words. "If you deny it, I don't mind helping you review. After all, we're married now."
