Selene's POV.

I whistled as I returned home, Smacking my lips in anticipation of telling Jacob the latest news. Logan had forwarded the terms and conditions which I had almost signed but decided to wait for a few hours.

Martha came out first with a small smile on her face. "Welcome ma. I was asked to give you this letter.' she announced, making me even smile more.

It could be from Meredith. She was the only one who had the time and energy to make me do something quite absurd,

I collected the ruffled envelope from Martha, expressing my gratitude softly, which she waved off like it was nothing.

True to my thoughts, it was a handwritten note from Meredith.

"Hey, I have to quickly stop at Milan before returning to your house. I'm sorry if this comes as a shock to you, but I figured that both of you would be fine, and I have told his parents not to worry. I'm sorry if I caused any misunderstanding between both of you."

I raised an eyebrow and looked at Martha, who looked away instantl

Jakob's POV.I look out at the clouds and feel irritated by the long time I'm going to spend in the air. I miss my house but no one cared about that as long as I brought the bag home. My parents had tried to reach out to me but I was not responding at all because of the irritation I felt towards them. They didn't deserve to be dirty and expect me to be happy with them simply because they apologized. If they knew they wanted me back in their life then they should do the honorable thing by returning everything I owned. My father had given me an ultimatum of getting married to Selene or withdrawing my shares. I had taken the easy way out but now they were still trying to force me into doing a lot of things that didn't make sense. My heart monitor kept on beeping on my arm just to check my state of health. I didn't care about whatever anyone said as long as I knew that I was fine within. I had so many things on my mind, one of which included just remaining on my own for a bit to find

Selene's POV. The eerie silence had me jolting up in annoyance. I didn't think that I was going to miss my roommate so much despite not ever being at home anymore. I was preoccupied with so many modeling jobs that I had not realized I was beginning to shed some weight until Martha pointed it out. Damnit. I was beginning to look like a shell of myself and that was me putting it mildly. I looked horrible and was looking for someone who could help out with the horrible situation. "Tell me that you're not missing him despite going out with Logan?" My friend asked over the phone.I didn't say anything but my silence probably did the talking. "Listen, juli, I'm preoccupied with so much work that I sincerely do not have the time for such discussions. Please can we move on to something more productive?"The clinking of beers echoed in the background, telling me that she was on duty. "Do you ever get some rest or you're always working? You're gonna get burnt out one of these days. Why don't

Selene's POV. I lounged in Logan's office, smiling at his jokes wondering how it took me so long to find someone like this who could connect on various aspects. He was very happy that I came over to visit him after much persuasion. "Why do I feel like this is just your way of pushing things forward for a long while before you finally tell me what exactly you need me for?" I began, straightening in my seat and staring him right in the face. "Why would you even say that?" "Nothing much, I just thought about how important this is to you since you've mentioned it so much. If I were you I would never get involved with a married woman because her husband could get mad at me and probably do something to hurt me." Logan scoffed at my words. "That is if you are in good rapport with your husband. I don't want you because you are married so it doesn't affect my conversation with you. I have not asked for even as little as a kiss so that should account for something." He said, before pushin

Selene's POV.I smiled as I opened the front door, and dropped my bag on the table, loving the sound of the echo, telling me that I was still alone. I had come to enjoy the silence that came with being at home. My parents had not even reached out to me in the past few weeks, and sometimes I considered texting them just to see what they thought about my marriage, which I didn't know if I felt appreciative of or quite put off. There were so many things for me to consider but I decided to take things one step at a time. It didn't make any sense that I was wasting too much time trying to figure out what exactly the problem was. "Martha?" I called softly. It was weird that she was not around. Her boss was not around to send her on an errand, so why wouldn't she respond on the first call, especially when we had so many things planned out? I moved towards the kitchen, hoping to find her on the board, and was greeted with an empty space. Did she probably leave without thinking it throu

Selene's POV. "May I have a word with you Martha?" I demanded from her when she came to drop a cup of coffee in my room. I couldn't move past what happened in the corridor. To some people, it was just both of us having a spat, but this was deeper than our usual fights, and it would be inhumane to think that it was something we could just get past like we did with others. "I don't know what is happening with him. I don't understand what is happening in this house. I need answers as to why he is so particular about Logan." I said, running my hands through my hair. Martha's eyes flickered with hurt before masking it with a smile. "I don't know what his business is with Mr Logan, but I do know that it is something very deep, and I suggest that we find a way of handling the situation. I need to go check up on him again because his fall could affect him in more ways than we imagine." Now I even felt more guilty. I shouldn't have allowed him to fall. That could impede his recovery proce

Selene's POV. I stormed out of the house in annoyance, to get answers from Logan. That man was a bastard and my best bet was the fact that he played me into thinking that he was all that. What if I had not confronted Jakob and later found out that he was a player?! I gave the address to my chauffeur tapping my leg in impatience as he drove off. I couldn't wait to confront him to his face and hear his side of the story. Maybe he was probably being misunderstood. He had to know that this was going to cause chaos and that's why he took his sweet time to strike. How could I have been so foolish not to see the signs, especially when he kept on commending me for not being like other women? I didn't place a call to him. I wanted to catch him off guard and it had to be now. We were on our way to Plymouth, taking the South region. I imagined how this scenario was going to play out. Was he going to apologize and say that he found love in me? I call it obsession and trying to ruin what he

Jakob's POV. Next morningI came out of my room for breakfast. I was already getting hungry and couldn't bear the hunger anymore. I decided to call Martha but she was nowhere to be found. Luckily, Brenda was on her way to my room, so we almost collided. She shot me a sheepish smile. "I'm so sorry sir. If I had known, I would never have come in contact with you." She apologized, bowing her head. I waved her apologies off. I didn't care for them as long as I was fed. I didn't want to waste my time discussing issues that were not profitable, to say the least. I had more pressing issues to attend to. "Where is Selene?" "I don't know anything about that, sir. I thought she was in her room. Did she go anywhere?" She asked stupidly. I didn't want to unleash my anger on her for she was not the cause of my problems. It would be wrong for me to do so. "Right. Check her in the room and give me feedback. I want to have a word with her." I explained to her, tapping my feet impatiently.I w

Selene's POV. I woke up with my head pounding like I had been run over by a truck. I tried to open my eyes but squinted immediately as the sunlight assaulted my vision. I couldn't believe that I was in such a situation. The room was smelly, too bright for my eyes to comprehend and I kept on bending to avoid its rays."I knew you were going to act funny and that's why I came prepared for you. Have you ever imagined what it would look like to be in such a situation? I know you were planning to have everything at your disposal but now you don't have any. Do you have anything to say to me before I go on with my plans?" I kept on staring at the man who had portrayed himself as a good person but ended up turning out to be the worst I had ever met. "I hate the fact that I came here on my own." I told him. If only I had informed one person even if it was Julie of my whereabouts, then I wouldn't be in this mess but here I was wishing that I could turn back the hands of time but it was not

After waiting for some time, I suddenly decided to take a deep breath and try to understand what the hell was going on.The room went silent on my grandmother walked in. "Don't tell me that he is still trying to come up? He is doing a lot more than I expected him to. Annie, what didn't you inform me when you arrived?" I rolled my eyes at her provocative tone. Selene's POV. The doctor might have agreed to keep his mouth shut for now. But I knew better than to rely on just one person to keep my secret. If I wanted to stay ahead I needed a backup plan. My mind searched through the people I knew trying to figure out who I knew could keep a secret or who I could trust but no one came up. They’re all fake and trusting them is like digging my own grave. I inhaled resting my head on the pillow when a mane struck my thought. Roslyn If I can at least give some 50% of my trust it should be Roslyn. She’s unpredictable sharp and good. I wasn’t sure if I could trust her but I also knew she was my best option. I picked up my phone and dialed her number. The phone rang twice before she picked up. “Jordan?” Her voice was steady but I could hear the sight edge of sorry beneath it. “Where the hell have you been?” “Worried about me?” I smirked. “This isn’t funny!” She snapped. “Do you have an idea of what’s happening? Your family is practically set

Selene's POV The private suite was just as quiet now as when I arrived. The kind of silence that felt unnatural pressing down on me like a weight I couldn’t shake. The steady beep of the heart monitor and the occasional shuffle of the doctor moving around the room were the only sounds breaking the stillness. Pain throbbed through my ribs with every breath a dull ache reminded me of just how close I had come to losing everything. My libs were still sluggish from whatever medication they had pumped into me but my kind was clear too clear. I wasn’t supposed to be here I wasn’t supposed to be alive but somehow I managed to escape death. Maybe that was lucky or not. I was about to ask the doctor for water when he suddenly pulled out his phone his expression tight. He glanced at me before pressing a button putting the call on a speaker. “You need to hear this.” He muttered setting the phone down on the table beside me. I frowned but said nothing he must have something to show me s

Selene's POV It felt like I was floating on my air, the world around me felt like it was spinning. I had never felt this type of hangover in a while, it must have been a crazy night… I thought as I tried to steady myself gripping the sheets of my bed wondering how I had been so careless when muffled voices reached my ears. Slowly I tried to focus on the voices when I heard a slight beeping machine, slowly my eyelids fluttered open and I was faced with a ceiling that was certainly strange making it clear I was not in my room. "You should have been here earlier." A soft feminine voice uttered, making me incline my head in the direction ignoring the throb in my head. I tried to focus on who was speaking. "Annie, don’t start." A familiar voice shot back laced with frustration. "Don’t start?" Annie retorted, scoffing. "He was bleeding out, Josh! Where were you?" Blood. The word sent a slow, crawling heat through my chest. My fingers twitched against stiff sheets, memories flickeri

Selene's POV The beeping of the heart monitor filled the hospital room, the steady rhythmic sounds of my heartbeat had long since faded into the background of my mind. The scent of strong antiseptic clung to the air, sharp and sterile, an obvious and never ending reminder that I was still in this place— bedridden.I let out a little sigh—I had spent enough time on this bed to memorize the exact placement of every single object in the room. To anyone else that might have sounded a little funny.I noticed how the curtains danced in the breeze whenever wind came, it made me crave for the outside world and not the way the cold sheets felt against my skin. Or the numb ache at my sides. But none of these discomforts compared to the unease brewing within me as I turned my head toward my grandmother who sat silently on the cushioned chair next to me.No matter how many times I had tried to shrug the thoughts off, they just wouldn't budge. She had been acting strange for a while now—too stra

Coming from someone who had waited so long to get answers I guess the taste of victory still lingard in my mouth as I tried to figure out what exactly the problem would be if I went on with my idea. Absolutely no one to support me besides myself and my persistent belief that I could do this. I didn't even bother about going on and on above the usual. I just waited and sealed deals from my office. Julie was my greatest supporter as she didn't miss a day to gas me up and tell me how amazing I was. This was the kind of person I wanted in my life who was going to always prove that there was a reason for me to always have sufficient people around. It wasn't going to change the fact that I was going to suffer to bring my vision to limelight even though I had a few agencies who wanted to mingle with me. I had to turn most of them down when I realized that their visions didn't tally with what they wanted me to do. It was always prohibited to mingle with such people as long as t

Seline’s POV Yes! We did it. The joy of the victory I just got spread like wildfire in my body, I couldn’t contain it. The doors of the courtroom swung open and I stepped into the daylight. The sun, high in the sky, hit me with a blend of heat and severe brightness. I had to cover my eyes for a second to adjust to it. I opened my eyes to see a large number of crowd made up of people who Mr Fisher had unjustly robbed in the name of getting treatment in his hospital, and their families, journalists and news agencies all waiting patiently for the result. The moment they all sighted me, a sudden hush fell over them. Some had their palms joined together, mumbling words of prayers. Others simply held hands with or embraced their relatives in hope of good news. “We won!” I declared and the crowd erupted into cheers. Many couldn’t contain their tears and broke down. I held tightly unto the folder of legal documents close to my chest, an evidence of the justice I won for myself and ev

Author's POV. The courtroom air? Stale. Stiff. Like a morgue with better lighting. Dr. Fisher sits slumped. Tailored suit. Empty eyes. His lawyer, a slick weasel in pinstripes, adjusts his tie. 'Nervous'. Prosecutor Amelia Voss strides forward. Heels 'click-clack' like a ticking bomb. She slaps a file on the jury’s rail. Papers flutter. “Ladies. Gentlemen. This man”—she whirls, points at Fisher—“is no healer. He’s a 'chemist of death'.” The jury leans in. Fisher’s pen trembles. “Forged prescriptions. Falsified records. 'Profit over pulse'.” Voss tosses photos—bottles with smudged labels, scribbled dosages. “He didn’t 'mistreat' patients. He 'weaponized' them.” A juror gasps. Fisher’s lawyer stands. “Objection! Speculative—” “Overruled.” Judge Calloway’s voice grinds. Granite face. Ice-chip eyes. “Proceed, Ms. Voss.” She smiles. Feral. “Gladly.” ''' The witnesses come. A parade of ghosts. First: Mrs. Eliza Trent. Apron stained. Hands raw. “My husband… his arthritis
