Selene's POV.

"What do you mean by no?! Are you still in love with that man?" Julie demanded a few hours later from me when I told her the details of our conversation.

I was the one who messed up by telling her everything that went down because now she was going to castigate me as though I was a child who couldn't make their own decisions.

"That is because I didn't want to go anywhere. I have been controlling the pageant from my house and it has been blissful. Why should I step out and risk anyone seeing or recognizing me? I told you that Kim did, didn't I?"

Julie's eyebrows almost shot off the roof of her head, and I found myself rolling my eyes countless times. "Sometimes I don't know what is wrong with you. I get the fact that you are mad at life for taking whatever it is that happened but this is borderline worrisome. How can you ignore that everyone will try to make you come out of your shell simply because you are scared of falling in love again?!"

"Can you just turn d

. Jakob's POV. I laid on my bed with my head facing the ceiling with the intention that I would be able to get this woman to confess all her wrong doings but that seemed like a fairy tale that was never going to happen because Mia was as tight-lipped as a crocodile when it caught its prey I honestly didn't think I had the mental strength to stomach all of this. The only thing that had me going was the fact that I needed hard to lead me to Logan's particular hideout because it was almost as though he had found out that we were trying to track him through his woman and, therefore, cut off all communications with her. I had caught her speaking to him and reminding him of their agreement, which was pretty different from what she had tried to tell me, and I had believed in the first instant before coming to realize that she was just a pathetic liar and was never going to change. The most annoying part of the whole story was the fact that she always had a genuine reason to leave th

Selene's POV. I knew that I had successfully chased one of the people who was supposed to be close to me simply because of my reluctance to mingle with anyone and I felt bad but decided to repair things by going over to their house when I heard noise coming from their flat. My hands hovered mid-air as I tried to figure out what exactly could be going on there. The door was pulled open almost immediately making me smile weirdly. I didn't want to be involved in anything that had to do with much discussion, but I guess I had no choice because then I would be putting out an image that was completely different from what I wanted. Kim's stared at me with annoyance in her eyes this time not trying to mask it, "I don't think you should be on my doorstep. What happened to not wanting to have anything to do with me because I'm a bother?" She demanded derisively. I would be partial to say that she was acting out of turn when she was just doing all that she was supposed to do while I t

Selene's POV. My mouth fell wide open trying to comprehend what I had just been told because it was sounding like a huge lie to me. I would never have imagined in my entire life that this would be happening and I wouldn't have words for this. I had felt like there would be a way of connecting the dots together and making sure that she was well. Kim had told me that there was no remedy and she was dying of colon cancer and needed a donor so fast. I was not an option because I was heavily pregnant and needed to observe all the rest that I could get and she was considering me getting together with her brother so that she knew that her brother was in safe hands. I looked at her figure laying on my bed and wondered how exactly I was supposed to go about this without looking like a fool. The amount of worry that ran through my entire body was not to be matched and I didn't think that I could comprehend all of these at the same time. One thing that stood out for me was the fact

Jakob's POV. Our bags were set but I could still feel hesitancy from Mia who was frowning since the start of the day but I pretended not to see her. It wasn't her choice to do whatever she did as she was being directed by her master and while I could have been angry. decided to look at the bigger picture. We chose to ignore the fact that both of them existed but at the same time still trying to figure out what would have been best. One of the best things would have been handing her over to the cops but that will be so suspicious. Instead Sean had told me that he was going to send a couple of his guys to also board with us so that they can monitor her fervently. The amount of emotions put into this was so great that she suddenly began to feel safe around me without knowing that she was walking towards her imprisonment. At least this was better than me trying to kill her in return. I didn't know how she was able to sleep with her eyes closed when she knew that I had already c

Selene's POV. Color me shocked when Kim spoke those words and I looked away trying to figure out what she might have seen in me that made her think that I was fit to be the mother of her kids. It wasn't going to work because I couldn't even handle being pregnant alone with a lot of things. Thank God for Julie who had been holding the fort on the other end while I just kept on moving and hoping that I was able to get all that I needed. The next thing that I did was to immediately try to reach out to my mother so that she gave me the numbers of a few doctors that she trusted. I showed it to Kim who was lying on my bed. A new routine that she had developed just to have someone to talk to. Now I understood why she was so talkative. It was because she wanted to get rid of the pain that assailed her heart every time but she remembered that she was going to die soon. "I don't mean that you have to take them into your home but you will have to keep an eye on them and make sure that

Author's POV. "What are you doing standing in front of my house? I didn't give you my address so how were you able to find me?" Julie shook her head at her friend's dilemma and wondered how long it was going to take for this moment to realize that she couldn't hide anywhere on the planet except when people didn't want to find her. It would have made a lot of sense if she had deactivated her SIM and refused to even speak to anyone in her past instead of thinking that she was safe from people's scrutiny. "What a wonderful way of welcoming your friend who came all the way to visit you. I would not have been surprised if I didn't hear such words from you. How pleasant it is to also communicate with you after a long time?" Julie said sarcastically while poking her head into the apartment and seeing a strange face lying on her friend's bed. "I will be so mad at you if I find out that you now have someone else you have been talking to for so long." She said with a small smile but

Author's POV. Mia looked right and left trying to figure out if anyone was trailing her but I was glad to see that the coast was clear and that she had delivered it to do whatever she wanted the period she had been trying to reach Logan for so long and she was lucky enough to catch wind of the information that he was also occupying the same hotel she purposely booked. This was the right time to make him confess a few things and ensure that her man believed her over everyone else in the world, period. That was the only way he should be able to get his full tension without wasting time and feeling bad. The amount of pressure she had been facing lately was enough to send a normal person mad, but she decided to take her time so that no one knew what she was facing. If she was able to do just that, then she would also be free from the burden of handling Jakob's company. She called Logan again but he ended her call rudely. That was enough to upset her, but she still kept her cool, refu

Jakob's POV. I felt insane chills run down my entire body as they kept on speaking. They had absolutely no idea that we were listening in on the conversation, and I wanted to keep it that way, but this was the most shocking thing I had heard in a long time. Mia wanted to kill me? Sean placed his hand on my shoulder to keep me in check but I was everything but calm. This was preposterous, to say the least. How dare she try to kill me when I have not done anything to have besides be very caring? "I should have handled this alone so that you wouldn't go off. You shouldn't behave this way as though you have never heard that someone wanted you dead." He responded with a little laughter which was not even hilarious to me. As soon as I was able to focus my attention on what was more important, I decided to relax and process the words that had just come out of her mouth. "Did you hear what she said? She wanted to kill me. How do you expect me to be so calm listening to someone who

Epilogue(Author’s pov) The afternoon sun streamed through the windows, casting golden lights across the room. Selene sat on the bed, her laptop was open and her fingers flew over the keys as she responded to emails. Her work demanded her attention too much these days, but it was difficult to concentrate when Ethan was running around the house like a whirlwind. The little boy had energy that never seemed to run out. He kicked his small red ball against the walls and let out triumphant cheers when it bounced back, then ran after it with wild excitement. Selene had gotten the ball for him on his 3rd birthday and ever since, the boy had turned it into his companion and his father hadn’t stopped talking about how he was going to be the best football player in the world. His tiny feet thudded against the floor and along with his squeals of excitement, Selene was frustrated. She didn’t know how else to caution him and had already gotten tired. "Ethan, slow down!" Selene called, he

Selene’s Pov; I kept hearing voices, some were familiar and others, unfamiliar, but what enraged me was that I couldn’t tell whom the voices belonged to. My eyes fluttered open slowly after a while and I blinked rapidly, trying to adjust to the blinding light in the room. The room was unfamiliar and I glanced around, trying to recall how I got here. The ceiling glowed with the harsh fluorescent light. The sharp scent of antiseptic burned my nose, the rhythmic beeping of a monitor filled the silence around me and my body ached, as if I had been torn apart and stitched back together. I tried to move but my legs didn’t respond and panic rose to my chest. I sucked in a sharp breath, my hands moving to my thighs. My fingers trembled as they pressed against my thighs and then my knees, nothing. No sensation, no movement. Nothing at all! A strangled noise escaped my throat as I tried again, harder this time, but my legs remained dead weight beneath me. No, no, no. My heart slammed

Author’s Pov; Logan glanced around quickly, his breath came in ragged gasps as he sprinted through the prison corridor. His palms were slick with sweat, and his heart raced, but that didn’t stop him. This was his moment. This was the perfect opportunity and this time, he was going to ensure that he was successful. But fate had other plans for him.Just as he reached the gates, someone yanked him back. "Going somewhere?" The warden’s voice was taunting. He had been watching the man and knew that he was up to no good. Turns out he was right. Logan gritted his teeth, trying to pull himself out of the man’s grip, but it was useless. Within seconds, two more guards tackled him to the ground, pressing his face into the cold floor. "Son of…" Logan growled, struggling against their grip. "Shut it," one of the guards barked, twisting Logan’s arms painfully behind his back. "You really thought you could buy your way out this time?" Logan chuckled darkly, despite the pain. "Do you ev

Selene's POV The doors opened, and the soft melody of the piano filled the small chapel. My heart pounded so hard I thought everyone could hear it. I took a deep breath, but it didn’t help much. My hands felt empty without someone holding them. I had dreamed of this day since I was a little girl, but in those dreams, I never imagined walking down the aisle alone. I had imagined my father to be the one ushering me down the aisle in my glistering and beautiful wedding gown and then into the hands of my husband but I guessed everything happens for a reason. I gripped my bouquet tighter and took my first step. My mother sat in the front row, smiling at me with teary eyes. Jakob’s parents sat beside her, their faces warm and kind. Martha gave me a thumbs-up. Sean nodded, his face serious, but I knew he was happy for me. Julie was grinning, whispering something to her boyfriend, everyone looked at me with love and support, but the empty space beside me was too loud, I was not supposed

  • Forced To Marry The Crippled Billionaire    CHAPTER 170

Author's POV Two weeks had gone past since they returned to the country. It had been a hard time, keeping memories of sorrow; joy, however, was to remain valid for this night. Jakob and Selene’s parents sat together for dinner, sharing laughter and memories in a great camaraderie of friendship. Summer warm, one could hear names and clinking of glasses and rejoicings. Jakob surveyed the table. He breathed in once. “I want to say something, there is something very important I would like to say.” The attention of the room shifted to him. Selene appeared sweetly and placed her hand on his. He lifted his glass. “But before I say what I have to say, first of all let us take this toast,” he paused as they all took their glass of wine, " To family.” “To family!” Everyone chimed in and raised their glasses. Jakob looked on smiling. “I wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for all of you. You have been my backbone, my strength. You pulled me out of the deep waters. Selene’s father..” J

  • Forced To Marry The Crippled Billionaire    CHAPTER 169

Author's POV Mia planted herself on the cold bench within the jail cell and tapped her fingers against the metallic bars, letting out a huffed breath as she pulled out the tiny phone she had hidden in her pocket and moved her fingers quickly to dial Jacob's number. She needed to act fast before the prison guards on duty came to check on her and caught her, being without a phone was the worst thing that could ever happen to her in this cruel place. She cleared her throat and she mentally went on the words she was going to say to Jakob. The phone rang: once, twice, three times, and then he finally picked up, his voice barely above a whisper. "What do you want, Mia? How were you able to call me anyways?" She swallowed hard, pressing the phone closer. "Jakob, listen, I don't have much time so you have to listen to me attentively. I need you to get me out of here." Silence. Then a small chuckle. "You need me to do what?" Mia clenched her teeth. "Bail me out, Jakob! I shouldn't b

Selene's POV The TV had been on for some time, but my focus had wandered off entirely. My mind had been busy wandering amidst all the things I had to do when my name rang a bell.I blinked."Selene Carter’s art collection is making waves throughout the industry!" said the host, announcing. "People are talking, and the demand to see the owner herself is growing loud."I froze.Jakob must have been scrolling through his phone. "Did they just say your name?"I nodded slowly. "I think so."Jakob raised the volume. The host continued: "Collectors and critics are raving about the unique style, and emotion behind every piece. The name Selene Carter is being whispered about in art circles, and they want to know who she is?"My phone buzzed again, and a notification popped up, someone had mentioned me in a tweet."Where is Selene Carter? We need to see her! #ArtGenius #Masterpiece."Another tweet appeared."This woman’s art speaks to my soul. Who is she? Someone tell me!"I swallowed. This co

Jakob POV I breathed out the moment the plane touched down. It was a lengthy flight. Selene shifted beside me, stretching her arms. She didn't look at me, nor had she for most of the flight. I cared little, not my problem anymore. "We're here," I said, unbuckling my seatbelt. She sighed. "Yeah, we are here finally. The journey for me is so tiring, I need a cool bath and a soft bed to lay on." "Hmm,” I hummed, nodding in agreement to what she wanted. We got our bags and walked out from the plane. The airport was teeming with people; I barely noticed. My eyes straight went to the front where our parents stood awaiting, they spotted us instantly. My mother waved cheerily, and my father grinned beside her. Selene's mother stood there, too, blood-shot but relieved. I expected just a simple greeting, maybe some hugs but as soon as we stepped closer, laughter broke out. My parents were laughing so hard I had to blink, "What's so funny? Is there something on us or did we do something

Jakob's POV. At this point I knew that I was in for some huge ride and I needed to prepare myself for the reality of the situation. This was absurd for me to say the least, but even at that I was only hoping that I will be able to do what I should. Sometimes I wonder why I bothered myself so much with her situation when I should have been able to decipher that she didn't think of me in such a manner. It was more like a thing of convenience for her and even though I didn't want to accept it I guess I found myself doing that already. It didn't mean that I loved it, but I had no choice. "She was going to fight tooth and nail just to have her freedom, or what she considered freedom and I needed to be wise about fighting someone like this. It almost never ended well. I picked up my phone and called my friend. He was the only one who could tell me the truth without hiding. "I need your help because I think I am running mad. I need your help because this woman is about to make me into som
