The day that started like a furnace scorching the skins of anyone bold enough to walk without a roof above them slowly gave way to a dark sky as the moon replaced the sun in the sky. Dark patches covered the sky, the shy moon doing its best to lighten the earth without the stars. Markris glanced down at the time on his dashboard as he drove for an important meeting at 7 pm that evening. Left to him, he would have spent the whole day drenched in the demands of his schedule at the company, but Jorginho had been hammering on the importance of this meeting for the last two weeks. The biggest winery in Italy wanted his company to handle its finances. If he had closed this deal, he would have successfully handled every industry in Italy except the arts. He heard a light tap on the window, and a huffing wind which carried an earthy smell, followed closely behind."Ugh, rain!" He stifled a growl, instead stepping on the gas. He knew it was dangerous to drive that fast, but he chucked aside
"Slow down, man," Jorginho said as he sprinted forward to catch up with Markris, who was already in the parking lot. A gush of wind-carrying raindrops blew, and a roar from the sky signaled it was about to open up.Markris hurried to his car, trying every means to avoid the downpour he was sure would follow soon. He placed his hands on his car door and briefly paused. Shaking his head, he turned around to see Jorginho approach him."Damn, bro, I'm sorry." He said, bending over to catch his breath. A loud crack of thunder jolted, followed closely by bursts of lightning. They looked up at the sky simultaneously, just as heavy drops of rain began to pour.Markris gave him a once over and sighed. "I'll address that sometimes you can't separate business from pleasure later. For now, go home," He pulled his door open. "I'll be damned if my Armani is ruined." He muttered under his breath. Pushing himself in, he slammed the door shut and turned the ignition on. He had barely been in the rain
She exhaled discreetly when she spotted the uniform the girl was putting on. This was a maid and not Lorena, from what she remembered of the stunning beauty."Tanika, Where's Lorena?""She's upstairs." The girl replied, pretending not to notice the woman beside him."Okay. Prepare a room for our guest," He turned his head to her. "Would you like something to eat?""No," She shook her head vigorously. "I'm fine." She said, putting on a fake smile. Markris allowed his eyes to linger on her until she began to shift uncomfortably. He needed her to know that whatever she had would not materialize. Before the night was over, she would surely meet Lorena."Okay then," He nodded and turned around. "Let me know when you're done, Tanika." He said behind his shoulders as he walked up the stairs to his room.Markris saw the lights in his room turned off from a distance, but when he moved his head to the other side, he saw Lorena's room lights were on. He visibly relaxed as he hurriedly made his w
"No." She shook her head, her lips quivering. She refused to believe Markris despised her to the point of bringing another woman to his house."Lorena, please listen." He stretched out his hands, but she quickly sidestepped him. Her body trembled as she fought the urge to burst into tears."Markris!" Ariana called from outside, oblivious to the chaos she had stirred inside."I hate you!" She screamed, running to the door."Lorena, please listen to me." He followed after her. He couldn't thin"Leave me alone." She said, pulling the door open. She pushed past the woman behind the door and, without glancing at her, sprinted straight across the passage to her room."Lorena?" Ariana whispered, turning her head to watch the woman flee, but the door-slamming shot drowned out her voice. When she turned again, Markris was out in just his towels, following after her. It didn't take much to figure out what had just happened, and she began to feel guilty."Lorena, please open the door." Markris b
The bright streams of morning sun met Markris pacing around his room. Between walking in the passage like a madman waiting for either Lorena or Ariana to step out, he had barely slept a wink. He ran a tired finger over his curly hair and sighed. He didn't know why he needed to explain himself to Lorena. Especially when it looked like she was hell-bent on mistrusting her, he still couldn't deny his curiosity. He wanted to know what she and Ariana had discussed all night. He wanted to see how what Ariana told him that night about Lorena. It drove him crazy that he wasn't privy to their discussion. A knock sounded on his door, and he hastily whipped his head around."Come in," He rubbed his finger together, his heart palpitating. The door pushed open, and Lorena stepped into the room with a tray in her hands. "Huh?" He scrunched his nose."I brought breakfast, sir." She announced a little too cheerfully for his liking. He did not remember asking for breakfast. How could he eat when curi
Markris eyes landed on time at the top of his computer screen as he sent out the last important email of the day,"Wow!" He leaned back and stretched, breaking into a loud yawn. His ears picked up a sound, and his brow snapped together. Contorting his face, he stood up and proceeded to the window. He spread the blinds gently and looked out. His tired eyes bulged, only just realizing it was raining again. "Oh?" He muttered, shutting the blinds. He proceeded to his computer and shut it off. "That should do for the day." He yawned again, his bones stiff from all that sitting. He turned off the lights in the room and proceeded to his room. All he could think about was the softness of his bed and how he couldn't wait to bury himself in it. After going a whole day without resting, it felt like his bones would fall apart at any moment. He hastened his strides, and soon he arrived at his room. Pushing the door wide open, he walked inside and shut the door behind him. He didn't have the st
A bright smile danced around the corner of her lips, her eyes fluttering open. She rolled to her side, expecting to come in contact with the man beside her. Instead, her feet got caught between the duvet, and she almost moved to the ground due to the space."Shit!" She cussed, straightening herself. "Oh, there he is!" She thought, her eyes lighting up as she spotted Markris seated at his dresser. He felt her eyes resting on him and turned his head around. Pulling off his earplugs, he nodded at her shy wave."Good morning." Lorena drawled, her voice still croaking from their intense lovemaking."Hey." He tilted his head, his voice a little too disengaged for her liking. His eyes did not hold the warmth of last night, and it left her wondering if something bad happened while she was asleep."Did you sleep well?" She asked, determined to keep this conversation afloat. She couldn't be the only one still high of the euphoria from last night. She felt a familiar feeling rising from the pit
Adriano? Are you ignoring your father!"Markris rolled his eyes at the phone placed on his dressing table. "I slept pretty early last night." He said."Did you receive the mail I sent you?"He stroked his chin. He tried to figure out what his father was talking about."I don't have all the time in the world, Adrian! Its subject was Morena Cicero.""Oh---" He bobbed his head, his mind trailing back to that interesting mail he had seen the night he sent Lorena out of his office."So, did you?" The hastiness in his father's voice irritated him to no end. What was so important about some damn mail?"I did, but I haven't read it yet.""Well, do, and get back to me, young man!" He yelled, ending the call.Markris sighed, his eyes lingering on the phone. Lately, he felt at the edge of something bound to snap soon. He dragged his eyes away from his phone, and it landed on the package just beside it. A small smile danced in his eyes, a thought forming. He turned around with the package in his
