Chapter 30

I dreamed the same thing again.

My eyes flutter open in the dark wood-paneled room again. Everything happened exactly as before, the sound of a woman's scream that was too painful to hear, the sound of footsteps approaching me, and the conversation of two strangers who were on the floor above me. Only this time I didn't feel afraid, I felt nothing but tears running down my cheeks. My two small hands hugged my knees tightly.

"You found it?" the strange man's voice came from the floor above me. Several other footsteps approached me. The sound of objects being thrown made my body jump slightly. Then when I looked up I could see the silhouette of a shoe through the wood floor. He was standing right above me. He was not the same man who had previously spoken.
