“Is everything okay?” Hardy asked, his eyes darting from his father to Brenda, but neither of them would speak.

As silence took over the room, the atmosphere shifted, though there was nothing to say.

Hardy walked over to Brenda. “Come on, dad, let’s have dinner together!”

The maid entered as Will took his seat and set down his glass of wine, having lost his appetite.

He kept glancing at Brenda whenever Hardy was focused on his meal.

“So, tell me, how did you meet… Brenda, right?” Will asked, confirming her name to avoid arousing his son’s suspicion about how he knew her.
