Sweet silence

The insistent yet annoying sound of my phone ringing tried to wake me up several times but failed. With the cold seducing me deeper into sleep's arms it might take a miracle to wake me up.

The phone rang relentlessly until I couldn't take it any longer.

Who the fuck wants to get me out of bed so bad? It better be the president himself or God.

"Who is this?" I mumbled.

Meg's voice brought me out of my sleepy drawl. I could barely understand what she was saying as she went on nonstop without taking a beat. Her voice quivered as she spoke.

"Calm down." I sat upright in bed. "Let's start again. What happened?"

"So you saw the creepy waiter here?" I wanted to be sure I understood the cause of her hysteria.

"Yes." She scowled.

"He was jogging too?"

"That's what I said."

I still didn't get it. "So why are you freaking out?"

"Don't you get it?" She cried out. "He's the killer! He works in Kentsville but lives here in Stanton. I'll bet he moved recently too."
