“Paula, how is Amy?” Was the first thing Henry said the moment he picked her call.
He was worried about Amy’s well being as she wasn’t answering her phone.
“Well, good morning to you too, Henry.” Paula replied, rolling her eyes.
“Where is Amy? Is she there with you? I need to talk to her.”
“You don’t wanna do that.” She countered.
“If I didn’t, I won’t be telling you.” He retorted, as he wasn’t in the mood for Paula’s mind games.
“Fine. If you want to talk to your daughter, give her a call then.”
“She isn’t answering any of my calls.”
“Look Henry, I called you so we could talk.”
“About what?”
“Our daughter, obviously.” Paula couldn’t believe Henry would ask such an absurd question.
“The last time I saw Amy cry was when she was five years old. And that was because she scraped her knee while playing in the park… Henry, last night I witnessed my baby sob because of you. Never in a million years would I have believed that such a day would come.”
“Paula, I really need to speak to her. To tell her how sorry I am.” Henry pleaded with his ex-wife.
He was hurting as much as Amy, she could tell from his voice. But right now isn’t the time for apologies, they needed to talk. Besides, knowing how Amy can’t stay mad at her dad, they’ll probably be reconciled by the end of today.
“That isn’t the issue, Henry.” She stated.
“Then, what is?” He angrily asked.
Just what she thought. They can’t have a conversation about their daughter without getting angry and yelling at each other.
“You have no right to impose your choices on our daughter.”
“I’m her father, remember?... Besides, when have I ever imposed anything on Amy? Get your facts right, Paula, before starting an argument.”
“Then why in God’s name are you insisting that she goes to college this year when she obviously doesn’t want to.” Paula was trying really hard to control her anger.
Henry never liked her choice of career. He hated the fact that she was a criminal lawyer because he feared she was exposed to danger, so he never held back when expressing his distaste for her job at the slightest opportunity.
“Going to college after highschool isn’t my choice, Paula. It’s the normal way life goes… For Christ sake, I only want what’s best for my daughter.”
“I’m her mother, goddamnit!” Paula yelled as she couldn’t hold it in anymore.
He always slaps it in her face that he is the better parent because Amy loves him more. She knows she is partly to blame for that because she never really had a mother- daughter time with Amy due to her job, and that was also one of the reasons why Henry never encouraged her choice of work. But, she still tried her best to be the mother Amy would love, the type she could come to when she needed advice. So why does Henry derive pleasure in mocking her at every chance he gets.

Amy woke up with a slight headache and she hated it. Why did she cry so much last night?
Was it just because of the fight she had with her dad or was it because last night her mom was worried about her and sincerely wanted to know what was upsetting her even when she insisted that she wanted to be alone.
She dragged herself out of bed and made her way to the bathroom to freshen up. When she was done, she wore a pink swimsuit with denim shorts and wrapped her hair in a ponytail before leaving her bedroom.
On her way downstairs, she heard yelling and wondered if her mom was having an argument with her husband, Chris. But as she got closer, she realized that her mom was indeed arguing with someone on the phone, it was her dad. Just as she made it to the foot of the stairs, the call ended.
Her mom let out a heavy sigh and covered her face with her hands like she was crying. From the little she could make out of the argument, her mom was on her side, she was in support of her getting herself together before going to college. Maybe, she wouldn’t have gotten into a fight with her dad if her mom was there.
Why did her parents end their marriage? Amy wondered as she took gentle steps towards her mom.
“Mom?” She carefully called.
Paula was startled to hear her daughter’s voice. She thought Amy was still asleep, that was why she decided make the call. She guess she was wrong.
'Oh no! Amy must’ve heard her arguing with Henry.' Paula suddenly became nervous.
“Hey baby, I didn’t know you were awake.” She shakily said.
“I just got out of bed.” Amy replied in a quiet voice, carefully observing her mom.
“Mom, are you okay?” She finally asked the question that she has been burning to ask.
“I’m fine, honey. I’m okay. Let’s have breakfast… You know, Carl didn’t want to go to school cos he was excited to know that you came over.” Paula replied, quickly changing the subject.
Amy got the hint and didn’t ask her mom any question with regards to the phone call.
They had breakfast and Amy suggested that they go shopping so she could get something for her baby brother since she didn’t have the time to do that the night before.
When Amy and her mom were done shopping, it was already noon. Paula told Amy that Carl usually gets out of school by noon, so they needed to head home quickly if she wants to give him a proper welcome. Amy suggested that she had a better idea. She asked her mom to call the chauffeur that was supposed to go pick up her brother and tell him not to bother going to his school today because, they were going to pick him from school themselves. Paula did exactly as Amy said and began their journey to Carl’s school. Amy was really excited about this. She couldn’t wait to see the look on her brother’s face when he sees her in his school for the first time.Carl is Amy’s half brother from her mom’s current marriage. He is only five years old, and Amy adores him. She was ecstatic when she found out that her mom was having another child, even though it wasn’t with her dad. She was bored of being an only child because she had no playmate at home, so having a sibling was a blessing to her. Although
After ice cream, Paula drove them home. Amy showed Carl the new video game she got for him. He was so excited to finally have his own ‘Dragons: Dawn of New Riders’ . He immediately went upstairs, to his bedroom, to give it a try.Chris, Paula’s current husband returned from work half an hour later. Amy finally had the chance to say hello to him as she didn’t get the chance the previous night.Chris is an engineer, so he usually goes to bed early, that was why Amy didn’t see him the night before. Chris is a nice guy. He’s cool to chat with, and fun to be with. Amy is glad her mom still found happiness after her divorce from her dad.Her dad, on the other hand was a whole different story. He’s always busy with work and when he’s not, he’s either with his bestfriend, Bryan or they’re having a father- daughter time. His 100% attention has been on her after his divorce with her mom and even though she enjoyed the attention, she sometimes wonder if her dad was truly happy.“Dinner time!” Pa
The next morning kicked off as usual. Amy woke up, freshened up, and got Carl ready for school. After she was done getting Carl ready, they had waffles for breakfast. Chris left early for work because of a new project he was working on. Paula had to be in court early. So she decided to drop Carl off at school and asked the chauffeur to go pick him up at noon.It was just Amy at home. She finished her breakfast and went to the TV room to watch a movie. While watching the movie, Amy’s thoughts travelled back to her conversation with her mom.Her mom had confessed to her that at some point in her marriage to her dad, she fell out of love because things weren’t like they were in the beginning and this got Amy wondering if one could actually fall out of love. She thought love was supposed to last for a lifetime, to understand and endure anything, she guess she was wrong. She suddenly felt sorry for her dad.‘Why doesn’t he want to move on?’ she wondered, mentally cursing herself for not ca
Amy woke up early the next morning, careful not to wake her baby brother up, as she spent the night in his room because he was sad about her leaving. She smiled at the memory because it reminded her a lot of herself. She usually spends the night in her dad’s bedroom when she finds it difficult to sleep. After kissing Carl goodbye and successfully making it out of his bedroom without waking him up, she went into her room and quickly took a shower. After getting dressed in a comfortable casual wear, she packed her suitcase. When she was almost done, there was a knock on her door.“Need a hand?” Paula asked, closing the door behind her.“No, mom. I’m almost done.” She replied, pecking her mom on the cheek murmuring a,“Good morning.”“Shouldn’t you be asleep?” Amy asked while putting her skin care products in her suitcase.“Just wanted to make sure you were okay… Should I tell the maids to prepare a quick breakfast?” Paula replied, watching as her daughter closes her suitcase.“All done…
Amy quietly opened the door to her father’s bedroom. She found him sound asleep just as Bryan said. A smile appeared on her face at the sight of her sleeping father. He looked so relaxed and a lot younger while asleep. She slowly crept towards his bed and carefully sat at the edge of his bed.Although, she disobeyed Bryan by coming into her dad’s room, she has no intention of waking him up. So, she brought out her phone and started a chat with her best friend, Mandy. Her best friend shared her experience at a party she went with Jack and wished Amy had been there to see all the fun and wild things that happened. While they were chatting, Amy felt a movement on the bed. She tore her eyes away from the phone and looked at her dad. He was gradually waking up, so she quickly sent a goodbye text to Mandy and kept her phone in her pocket.“Good morning dad.” She greeted as he was rubbing the sleep off his eyes.Henry stopped his action at the sound of his daughter’s voice. He looked straigh
Amy stared delightedly at the two new pairs of Louis Vuitton heels her dad bought for her. She had a soft spot for beautiful shoes from when she was little, there was no denying that. After trying them on, Amy sent pictures of them to Mandy, who started gushing over how beautiful they were. She wasted no time in adding them to her collection of shoes before heading downstairs for breakfast.Just as she was about starting her way down the stairs, Henry came out of his bedroom all clean.“Now, look who’s famished.” Henry teased with a raised eyebrow. He expected her to already be in the dinning room waiting for him.Amy ignored her dad’s comment and engulfed him in a warm hug.“I knew you’d like them.” He chuckled, placing a kiss on her head.“Thanks dad. I love you.”“I love you too, princess. Now let’s go have breakfast, I’m starving.”Henry couldn’t hide his surprise when he saw the dinning table filled with complete breakfast. This wasn’t his doing because he barely eats in the morn
Amy nervously stood in front of his bedroom door.‘Why am I nervous all of a sudden?’ she mentally asked herself.‘Because you didn’t thank him for the gift he got for you. You feel guilty’ her subconscious told her.She took a deep breath and gently knocked on the door.“Come in.” Bryan said from inside.Amy opened the door and walked into the room. Bryan was getting dressed for work. He was just wearing his jacket.“Hi” Amy greeted in a quiet voice.“Hi, Amy. Do you need anything?” Bryan asked while making sure everything he needed was in his briefcase.“You didn’t come down for breakfast. Aren’t you going to eat something before going to work?”Amy was concerned that he wanted to go to work on an empty stomach.“I ate out.” Bryan simply replied, closing his briefcase, and giving his complete attention to Amy.“Why?” She worriedly asked, desperately searching his eyes for anything that would give away the fact that he was indeed upset with her.‘Why do you think that way, Amy? He sp
Mandy arrived at Amy’s place later that afternoon. They were going to have some girls time.“So, you have the house all to yourself?” Mandy couldn’t hide the excitement in her voice.“Aside from the maids. Yes.” Amy replied with the same excitement. Both girls squealed as they raced to Amy’s bedroom.“I won!” Mandy screamed, jumping on Amy’s bed, causing both girls to burst out in laughter.“You know,” Amy began when their laughter had died down.“I always wanted us to have a sleepover like this, without our parent’s supervision.”“Yeah. Me too.” Mandy sighed in agreement.“I never had the house to myself cos of my brothers… They’re the ones who always ended up bringing their friends over whenever mom and dad were on a business trip.” Mandy continued.“But finally, I get the chance to experience what it’s like to have the house to myself, thanks to you.” She said in conclusion.“What are we gonna do now?” Amy then asked. They both wore their thinking faces and in a matter of seconds M
