Anita’s Pov
I smiled, though it felt a little forced, and then, I confirmed what Damian had asked me earlier.
"Yes, it’s true," I added, though with an unsure look because I still haven't digested the actions of my mate.
If he was truly with or for me. If he would still come back to take me along with him.
Damian sighed, “It’s just that…” he began, then hesitated as if weighing whether to continue or not.
“Apart from work and his mate, the Alpha rarely shows interest in anyone else. But O think you’ve caught his attention, which isn’t something that happens often. And to be honest, I also think your presence could help him feel better, especially since he’s been in a bad mood lately.” he added.
Then his eyes flicked over to Alpha Hades, who was still standing a short distance away with an unreadable expression.
Damian then looked back at me with a softened gaze. “But since you’re married, it’s probably best if you keep your distance.”
The words hit me like a cold splash of water. I opened my mouth to respond, but the shock of the statement took me a moment to work through.
Did Damian really think that my marital status should dictate my ability to fulfill my role here?
And more importantly, did Alpha Hades feel the same way?
But abruptly, why would Damian say such a thing? Does he think I would came here to make Alpha Hades like me?
What the hell?
I straightened my back and gave him a determined look.
“With all due respect, Damian,” I said with a firm voice, “I am here to do a job. I will accompany Alpha Hades, help him with his work, and take care of his daily life as his assistant. But only within the scope of my job not adding anything else.”
I wasn’t sure what reaction I expected, but I caught a flicker of something in Alpha Hades’ eyes.
I don't know if it was a disappointed look that flashed on his face or what was it exactly?
But before I could properly examine him, his face returned back to it's normal look.
Then, he stepped forward, tapping the folder in his hand against his palm.
“During work hours,” he said, turning to Damian and then to me, “we shouldn’t be discussing personal matters.”
He handed the folder to Damian, who accepted it with a curt nod. “Make sure this is handled immediately.”
Damian took the folder and excused himself, leaving me alone with Alpha Hades. There was a thick silence between us, and I felt the weight of his gaze on me as I struggled to keep my composure.
There were so many things I wanted to ask, so much I didn’t understand about him and his mate, about what my role truly meant but I knew I was toeing a delicate line.
And this is the perfect time to throw all those questions at him and get my answers probably.
I just can't hold back this question that had been eating at me since my conversation with Kira any longer.
“Alpha Hades,” I began cautiously, meeting his gaze, “if Luna is upset with me, I’ll stay away from you. I don’t want to cause any trouble, especially not between you and your mate.”
The moment the words left my mouth, I saw the change in his expression. His smile vanished, replaced by a look that was impossible to read. His eyes darkened slightly, and for a moment, I feared I had crossed a line.
“You shouldn’t concern yourself with my mate,” he said quietly, his voice carrying a note of finality that left no room for further questioning. “It’s not your place to worry about our relationship.”
I nodded immediately, not that I was satisfied though. I still need more answers.
“I just wanted to make sure I’m not overstepping,” I replied softly. But inside, I couldn’t help but wonder what his relationship with his mate was like. Why did he avoid talking about her?
Was there more to their story than I realized?
Before I could dwell on it any longer, Alpha Hades took a step back with a slightly softened expression.
“You’ve been through a lot today,” he said gently. “I think it would be best if you took a half-day off. Get some rest and clear your head before coming back tomorrow.”
I blinked my eyes as I was shocked and surprised by the sudden offer. “That’s not necessary,” I protested quickly. “My old injuries won’t affect my work. I’m fine.” i said firmly.
He shook his head, cutting me off before I could say more. “It’s on me,” he insisted. “Take a paid break, Anita. I want you at your best, and that means taking care of yourself.”
I couldn't bring myself to believe what Alpha Hades just said. A paid break?
How? When did I start working for him to be able to receive this kind of offer from him?
Thie was so surreal. It wasn't making sense to me.
I still wanted to say something but there was a firmness in his tone and eyes that told me arguing would be pointless.
The last of my resistance crumbled into fine dust as I clipped my mouth shut then nodded in agreement to his words.
Although a part of me still felt uneasy about leaving my work unfinished. But anyway, this was an instruction from my boss.
What more can I say to change his mind?
“Thank you, Alpha Hades,” I murmured, feeling a mix of gratitude and yet confusion. “I appreciate it.”
He offered a small nod in return, then gestured toward the door. “Go on, get some rest. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Anita’s PovJust as I was about to head toward my quarters, Alpha Hades appeared at the entrance, his gaze fixed on me. “Let me take you home,” he offered, his voice carrying a note of concern that I hadn’t expected.I shook my head, trying to manage a smile. “Thank you, but I’ll be fine. I don’t want to trouble you any more than I already have.”His brow furrowed slightly, “Anita, I insist. You’ve been through a lot, and I can’t let you go back alone in your condition.”The warmth in his voice tugged at something inside me, but I resisted the pull. I waved my phone in the air and then offered him a reassuring smile, “Don’t worry. Someone’s coming to pick me up.”His eyes narrowed and skepticism became evident in his expression, “Who?” he asked.I hesitated, but only for a moment before I dialed Zach's number. The phone rang twice before a his cheerful, deep voice answered, “Honey!”I could practically feel Alpha Hades freeze beside me, his entire demeanor shifting. There was somethi
Anita’s PovAs I was walking down to the car, I noticed the driver's seat opening revealing Zach who came out immediately.I smiled as he did and for a moment, the tension in the air seems to rise.I could see the smiley face he had when he came out of the car, slowly fading away. And this happened when he saw the way Alpha Hades was watching us. His eyes became dark and sharp. But Zach, ever the one to lighten the mood, walked over with a confident stride, giving a quick nod to Alpha Hades before turning his attention fully to me.“You look like you’ve been through the wringer,” Zach said as he gently took my arm. “Are you okay?”I forced a smile, hoping it would be enough to reassure him. “I’m fine, really. It’s just been… a long day.”Zach didn’t seem convinced. His eyes scanned my face, lingering on the fatigue I knew was there. “You don’t look fine,” he said with a concerned look in his face. “What happened?”I hesitated, not wanting to go into the details in front of Alpha Hades
Anita’s PovThe morning sunlight filtered through the windows of my small office, casting a warm glow across the desk as I settled in to go through the files Beta Damian had handed me.The task was straightforward, and as I began sorting through the documents, I allowed myself to relax slightly, finding a strange comfort in the routine work. But as I immersed myself in the reports, something caught my attention. A faint wobbling sound echoed from behind me, growing louder and more louder at each passing second. At first, I ignored it, not wanting to think of any given problem or sort of.But the noise kept coming as if it was something was stumbling or rolling a non stop race with a growing sound in my ears.My heart skipped a beat as I turned just in time to see the large decorative ornament hanging on the wall behind me wobbling dangerously. My breath caught in my throat as I realized it was about to fall off its hook. Before I could react, I heard footsteps rushing toward my office
Anita’s POV:I still couldn’t believe my father was gone. His death was so sudden, so inexplicable, that it felt like I was living in a nightmare I couldn’t wake up from. I had been his only daughter, his pride, and joy, and now I was left alone, drowning in a sea of grief. The pack had always been my family, my home, but without my father, it felt like a prison. It wasn’t long after his death that my stepmother, Evelyn, and my stepsister, Amara, began their vicious campaign against me. At first, I didn’t understand what was happening. I was too wrapped up in my own sorrow, too blinded by my pain to see the venom in their eyes, the malice in their smiles. They whispered behind closed doors, their voices like a thousand tiny knives, cutting away at my heart.“She’s unstable,” Evelyn would say, her voice dripping with feigned concern. “She hasn’t been the same since her father died.”“I saw her in the woods the night he died,” Amara added one day, her eyes narrowing with false suspicion
Hades’s POVAs I stepped off the plane, more than a dozen of my bodyguards and assistants were already waiting in a tight formation. Their presence drew attention, causing people around the airport to glance our way. Some looked out of curiosity, others in awe, but it was all the same to me.I adjusted my sunglasses, feeling the sun’s warmth on my face. Wearing a black jacket, I walked elegantly toward the line of luxury cars waiting for me. At the front, the sleekest car stood ready—my favorite. Its black paint gleamed under the sunlight, the chrome accents catching the light perfectly. As I approached, the doors opened automatically, welcoming me into its lavish interior. I slid into the back seat, the soft leather immediately conforming to my shape. I leaned back, taking in the familiar smell of rich leather mixed with a hint of sandalwood. The car was spacious, giving me room to stretch out and relax. The dashboard was packed with all the latest technology, everything from navigat
Anita’s POVWho was this maniac of a man?Why had he tried to force me to believe him even after I told him I didn’t know him from Adam?I hung up the call and let out a deep sigh, shaking my head. If he had been trying to scam me, luck had obviously run against him today.I hissed in frustration and stood up from the sofa in the cozy living room, where Martha, Zach, and I had been lounging.“Annie, who was on the call with you?” Martha, my best friend, asked, curiosity in her voice.I turned to look at her with a faint smile. “My dear, don’t bother about it. It was a scam call. Maybe this one had seen my number somewhere and thought he could reach out, thinking I’d fall for him just because he mentioned I was his mate. It’s just like the way they dupe women all around because of love. Haha. I’m bigger than that, bruh,” I chuckled, trying to lighten the mood.Martha’s eyes softened with empathy as she reached out to pat my shoulder. “I trust you, Anita. You’re a strong woman, stronger
Anita's POVI trailed behind Beta Damian as we moved toward the place where the Alpha stood. As we reached him, he looked at me with a suspicious gaze. I wondered if he had seen me before because I had never seen him. This was my first time meeting the Alpha of this pack, despite having been here for three years. He removed his gaze from me and waved his hand through the air, signaling us to follow his lead.I glanced up at Beta Damian, wanting him to take the first step before I joined in, which he did. We walked through the double doors adorned with beautiful chandeliers that cast a soft glow throughout the room. There were paintings and artwork all around. Everything was so stunning. My eyes quickly caught sight of a particular painting of a middle-aged man with a woman wrapped around him. It seemed like she was his wife. She was beautiful, and her smile made the picture come alive. In all the time I've been working in this pack, I've never entered this grand hall. Luxurious black
Anita's POVMy head snapped back instantly as Marshall shot me a disdainful look. I couldn't help but wonder what was going through his mind right now.I felt awful about the way Alpha Hades had asked him to leave his office. It was harsh, really harsh, and so unlike him. Even if Marshall had decided to pitch himself so aggressively, it was only because he believed in his qualifications; his confidence was rooted in that belief, not like me, who has nothing to show. Why did Alpha Hades choose me over him? I feel so bad for Marshall, and I know deep down that I'm the one who should be leaving, not him. My eyes flicked to Alpha Hades as the door clicked shut behind Marshall. This is purely unfair, just like Marshall had said earlier. Maybe Alpha Hades was upset by how rudely Marshall had addressed him. I should probably talk to him about it."Alpha Hades," I called softly, and he turned to face me."Yes." He answered, turning his face."Please I want to talk to you about him." I said, p
