Anita’s Pov
As I walked into the packhouse, still trying to process everything that had happened by the pool, I couldn’t shake the uneasy feeling that clung to me. My mind kept drifting back to the way Alpha Hades had reacted, how he had blamed himself for not protecting me. But more than that, it was the way he looked at me, like he was seeing something he hadn’t noticed before and that unsettled me the most.
I pulled my jacket tighter around myself, the chilling breeze added a tension knotting in my stomach.
I had excused myself when Alpha Hades was scolding Kira and reaching there now, him and Damian were gone.
Suddenly, I caught sight of Kira, standing near the entrance. Her eyes locked onto mine, and a sinister smile slowly spread across her lips.
“So,” she began, her voice dripping with disdain, as she moved close to me. “I didn’t expect you to make Alpha Hades fall for you so easily.”
I stopped in my tracks as her words cut through the air like a blade. “What are you talking about?” I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.
Kira took a step closer, her gaze piercing deep into mine, “Don’t play dumb, Anita. You’re good, but not that good. Just because the Alpha is paying you a little extra attention doesn’t mean you’ve won. He already has a mate, and he loves her deeply. Don’t think for a second you can replace her.”
Her words hit me like a punch to the gut. I had never intended to come between Alpha Hades and his mate, but the way she twisted the situation made me question everything. Was I really just a pawn in some twisted game?
I straightened my back, refusing to let her see how much her words affected me. “I have no intentions toward Alpha Hades,” I said firmly, meeting her gaze head-on. “I’m already married, and even if I wasn’t, I wouldn’t be interested. My only goal is to stay in this pack and do my part. Nothing more.”
Kira’s eyes narrowed, clearly not expecting my response. “Married?” she echoed, as her eyes glinted with of surprise, “To who?”
Before I could respond, I heard the sound of footsteps approaching. Alpha Hades appeared from behind, his presence commanding as always. Damian was right behind him with an unreadable expression.
“Kira,” Alpha Hades said sharply, his tone filled with authority, “That’s enough.”
Kira’s expression shifted into one of shock, and then anger. She glared at me before turning her gaze back to Alpha Hades. “I was just trying to warn her,” she said with a defensive tone in her voice. “She needs to know where she stands.”
Alpha Hades’ expression hardened as his eyes narrowed dangerously at her. “And who are you to determine that?” he asked with a cold voice. “Anita is a member of this pack, and I won’t have you treating her otherwise. Your remarks are not only hurtful but also out of line.”
“Kira,” he added, his voice low and filled with a barely controlled fury, “Do you have any idea of the consequences of your actions?”
Kira met his gaze without flinching as a wild smirk played across the corner of her lips. “I only did what I thought was necessary,” she replied.
“Necessary?” Alpha Hades echoed, his eyes narrowing dangerously at her, “You think poisoning a member of this pack is necessary?”
“She’s not one of us,” Kira shot back, her voice dripping with disdain as she turned to me. “She’s a rogue. An outsider. She doesn’t belong here.”
The words stung inside my heart, not because I hadn’t heard them before, but because of the venom behind them. Kira wasn’t just attacking my status as a rogue; she was challenging my very right to be here. And for a moment, I wondered if she was right. I wasn’t born into this pack. I didn’t have the same connections, the same history. But I also knew that I had earned my place here, and I wasn’t going to let her take that away from me.
Before I could respond, Alpha Hades took a step forward, “She belongs here as long as I say she does,” he said with a cold glance at her, “And you, Kira, have overstepped your bounds. You’ve betrayed this pack by attacking one of its members, and that will not be tolerated.”
Kira’s smirk faded with her confidence wavering for just a moment before she recovered. “You’re just protecting her because you like her,” she sneered. “But we all know where your loyalties really lie-with your mate. You’ll get rid of her the moment your mate comes back.”
Her words hung in the air, echoing in the silence that followed. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest, as I tried to reminisce what she just said.
Was that true?
But before I could further my thoughts, Alpha Hades spoke, “My mate has nothing to do with this,” he said, his tone leaving no room for argument. “Anita has earned her place here through her strength and determination, qualities that I respect and admire. What you’ve done, Kira, is an act of cowardice and jealousy.”
Kira’s face twisted in anger, her eyes narrowing as she glared at me. “She’s nothing,” she hissed. “Just a rogue pretending to be something she’s not. You’ll see, Alpha Hades. She’s not worth your protection.”
The words cut deep through me and I felt a pang of hurt, but I refused to let her see how much they affected me. Instead, I stood tall, meeting her gaze with a sneer on mine, “I don’t need your approval, Kira,” I said quietly. “I’ve earned my place here, and nothing you say will change that.”
Alpha Hades nodded in approval at my words, his eyes softening slightly as he looked at me. “Anita is right,” he said firmly. “She has proven herself time and again, and she will continue to do so. You, on the other hand, have shown that you cannot be trusted.”
Kira’s eyes flashed with rage, but she remained silent, her lips pressed into a thin line.
Alpha Hades turned to Damian, his expression hardening once more. “Kira is no longer fit to serve by your side,” he said, his tone leaving no room for negotiations or argument. “She’s a threat to this pack, and I won’t have her jeopardizing our safety. She’s demoted, effective immediately.”
Kira gasped, her eyes widening in shock as the weight of his words sank in. “Please you won't do that to me,” she protested, her voice shaking. “I’ve served this pack loyally for years—”
“And you’ve just proven that your loyalty is conditional,” Alpha Hades interrupted sharply. “You’ve betrayed this pack, Kira. Be grateful that I’m not banishing you altogether.”
Kira’s face turned pale, her hands trembling as she struggled to find the words to defend herself. But there was nothing she could say—nothing that would change Alpha Hades’ mind.
Kira’s eyes widened in shock. She opened her mouth to protest further but the words seemed to die in her throat. Then, she turned her glare back to me with a disdainful look.
“This isn’t over,” she hissed before storming off, her footsteps echoing down the hall.
I watched her go, a mixture of relief and anxiety swirling inside me. The confrontation had been intense, and I wasn’t sure what to make of it. Was this really how things were going to be?
Would I constantly have to defend my place in this pack especially now as Alpha Hades assistant?
I know that Kira loves him but what baffles me is the way she thinks I would snatch him from her.
Like, I can't do that. I'm not that kind of person.
But how did Alpha Hades manage to come right in time?
Did he really hear all the things I said to her?
Anita’s PovDamian, the Beta, stepped forward, his face lined with concern. “Alpha,” he began cautiously, “Kira was handling some important tasks, and with her demotion, we’re going to face challenges. It’s not easy to replace her, not immediately. I’ve seen you make impulsive decisions before, but this one—”Alpha Hades cut him off with a sharp look, his voice as cold as the winter wind. “Damian, not firing her without delay was already an act of mercy. You know the laws of the pack. Betrayal is not tolerated.”I dared to glance up at him, and our eyes met for a brief moment. His gaze softened, just slightly, before he turned back to Damian. “Anita will take over some of those tasks,” he declared. “She’s my assistant now, and I trust her to handle it.”My heart skipped a beat at his words. Trust. It was such a small word, but coming from Alpha Hades, it carried immense weight. My chest tightened with fear.Could I really live up to his expectations? Did he truly trust me, or was this
Anita’s PovI smiled, though it felt a little forced, and then, I confirmed what Damian had asked me earlier."Yes, it’s true," I added, though with an unsure look because I still haven't digested the actions of my mate.If he was truly with or for me. If he would still come back to take me along with him.Damian sighed, “It’s just that…” he began, then hesitated as if weighing whether to continue or not.“Apart from work and his mate, the Alpha rarely shows interest in anyone else. But O think you’ve caught his attention, which isn’t something that happens often. And to be honest, I also think your presence could help him feel better, especially since he’s been in a bad mood lately.” he added. Then his eyes flicked over to Alpha Hades, who was still standing a short distance away with an unreadable expression.Damian then looked back at me with a softened gaze. “But since you’re married, it’s probably best if you keep your distance.”The words hit me like a cold splash of water. I op
Anita’s PovJust as I was about to head toward my quarters, Alpha Hades appeared at the entrance, his gaze fixed on me. “Let me take you home,” he offered, his voice carrying a note of concern that I hadn’t expected.I shook my head, trying to manage a smile. “Thank you, but I’ll be fine. I don’t want to trouble you any more than I already have.”His brow furrowed slightly, “Anita, I insist. You’ve been through a lot, and I can’t let you go back alone in your condition.”The warmth in his voice tugged at something inside me, but I resisted the pull. I waved my phone in the air and then offered him a reassuring smile, “Don’t worry. Someone’s coming to pick me up.”His eyes narrowed and skepticism became evident in his expression, “Who?” he asked.I hesitated, but only for a moment before I dialed Zach's number. The phone rang twice before a his cheerful, deep voice answered, “Honey!”I could practically feel Alpha Hades freeze beside me, his entire demeanor shifting. There was somethi
Anita’s PovAs I was walking down to the car, I noticed the driver's seat opening revealing Zach who came out immediately.I smiled as he did and for a moment, the tension in the air seems to rise.I could see the smiley face he had when he came out of the car, slowly fading away. And this happened when he saw the way Alpha Hades was watching us. His eyes became dark and sharp. But Zach, ever the one to lighten the mood, walked over with a confident stride, giving a quick nod to Alpha Hades before turning his attention fully to me.“You look like you’ve been through the wringer,” Zach said as he gently took my arm. “Are you okay?”I forced a smile, hoping it would be enough to reassure him. “I’m fine, really. It’s just been… a long day.”Zach didn’t seem convinced. His eyes scanned my face, lingering on the fatigue I knew was there. “You don’t look fine,” he said with a concerned look in his face. “What happened?”I hesitated, not wanting to go into the details in front of Alpha Hades
Anita’s PovThe morning sunlight filtered through the windows of my small office, casting a warm glow across the desk as I settled in to go through the files Beta Damian had handed me.The task was straightforward, and as I began sorting through the documents, I allowed myself to relax slightly, finding a strange comfort in the routine work. But as I immersed myself in the reports, something caught my attention. A faint wobbling sound echoed from behind me, growing louder and more louder at each passing second. At first, I ignored it, not wanting to think of any given problem or sort of.But the noise kept coming as if it was something was stumbling or rolling a non stop race with a growing sound in my ears.My heart skipped a beat as I turned just in time to see the large decorative ornament hanging on the wall behind me wobbling dangerously. My breath caught in my throat as I realized it was about to fall off its hook. Before I could react, I heard footsteps rushing toward my office
Anita’s POV:I still couldn’t believe my father was gone. His death was so sudden, so inexplicable, that it felt like I was living in a nightmare I couldn’t wake up from. I had been his only daughter, his pride, and joy, and now I was left alone, drowning in a sea of grief. The pack had always been my family, my home, but without my father, it felt like a prison. It wasn’t long after his death that my stepmother, Evelyn, and my stepsister, Amara, began their vicious campaign against me. At first, I didn’t understand what was happening. I was too wrapped up in my own sorrow, too blinded by my pain to see the venom in their eyes, the malice in their smiles. They whispered behind closed doors, their voices like a thousand tiny knives, cutting away at my heart.“She’s unstable,” Evelyn would say, her voice dripping with feigned concern. “She hasn’t been the same since her father died.”“I saw her in the woods the night he died,” Amara added one day, her eyes narrowing with false suspicion
Hades’s POVAs I stepped off the plane, more than a dozen of my bodyguards and assistants were already waiting in a tight formation. Their presence drew attention, causing people around the airport to glance our way. Some looked out of curiosity, others in awe, but it was all the same to me.I adjusted my sunglasses, feeling the sun’s warmth on my face. Wearing a black jacket, I walked elegantly toward the line of luxury cars waiting for me. At the front, the sleekest car stood ready—my favorite. Its black paint gleamed under the sunlight, the chrome accents catching the light perfectly. As I approached, the doors opened automatically, welcoming me into its lavish interior. I slid into the back seat, the soft leather immediately conforming to my shape. I leaned back, taking in the familiar smell of rich leather mixed with a hint of sandalwood. The car was spacious, giving me room to stretch out and relax. The dashboard was packed with all the latest technology, everything from navigat
Anita’s POVWho was this maniac of a man?Why had he tried to force me to believe him even after I told him I didn’t know him from Adam?I hung up the call and let out a deep sigh, shaking my head. If he had been trying to scam me, luck had obviously run against him today.I hissed in frustration and stood up from the sofa in the cozy living room, where Martha, Zach, and I had been lounging.“Annie, who was on the call with you?” Martha, my best friend, asked, curiosity in her voice.I turned to look at her with a faint smile. “My dear, don’t bother about it. It was a scam call. Maybe this one had seen my number somewhere and thought he could reach out, thinking I’d fall for him just because he mentioned I was his mate. It’s just like the way they dupe women all around because of love. Haha. I’m bigger than that, bruh,” I chuckled, trying to lighten the mood.Martha’s eyes softened with empathy as she reached out to pat my shoulder. “I trust you, Anita. You’re a strong woman, stronger
