Anita’s Pov
As I approached the pool, I spotted Damian waiting for me. He was already dressed in his swimwear, his usual stoic expression masking whatever thoughts might have been swirling around in his head. He greeted me with a nod, his eyes were scanning my face as if searching for something.
“Ready for training?” he asked.
I nodded, trying to push my lingering doubts to the back of my mind. “Ready as I’ll ever be.”
Damian led the way to the pool, and as we stepped onto the deck, I noticed Alpha Hades was already there. He was standing in the shallow end, his phone pressed to his ear, his posture tense. His voice carried over the water, sharp and frustrated, as he spoke to whoever was on the other end of the line.
“I don’t care about the complications,” he snapped with a tone laced with impatience. “I need this annulment processed as soon as possible. No more delays.”
Annulment?
The word echoed in my mind, sending a pang through my chest. He was still determined to sever the bond with his mate, to end whatever connection they had left. I knew it wasn’t my place to feel anything about it, but I couldn’t help the sadness that settled in my heart at the thought. Whatever had happened between them, it was clear that it had left deep scars on Alpha Hades—scars that he was desperate to erase.
Alpha Hades noticed our approach, his eyes narrowing as he ended the call abruptly. His gaze locked onto mine, and for a moment, I felt as if he could see right through me, as if he knew all the thoughts I was trying to hide. His expression was dark, filled with an emotion I couldn’t quite read.
Anger?
Frustration?
Or something else entirely?
He didn’t say anything at first, just stood there, his eyes lingering on me for a few moments longer than necessary. I shifted uncomfortably under his scrutiny, unsure of what to expect.
“Anita,” he said finally with a sharp voice, “Join me for training.”
I hesitated, glancing at Damian, but he just gave me a subtle nod, urging me forward. I took a deep breath and stepped closer to the edge of the pool as the cool water lapped gently against my feet.
I glanced around the vicinity once more and something caught my eyes immediately.
It was Kira.
She was hiding at a corner with her gaze directly fixated on me.
She had this sinister and mischievous smile that tend to spread across her lips as she looked at me.
Lately, i have been seeing her folk around Alpha Hades like a fly and sometimes, I felt like she was doing too much.
I have always known that love is a feeling that comes naturally. It's not something that needed to be acted upon by a force.
With her actions, one could tell that she likes Alpha Hades. But unfortunately, Alpha Hades doesn't feel the same for her.
He had always looked at her with a cold and dismissive eyes no matter the kind of tantrums she tended to pull.
For a moment, I tried to grasp her mood but couldn't wrap my head around what she was planning because that look had something lingering beneath it.
Suddenly, Alpha Hades' voice snapped me off and I turned to him.
"Anita, Let's start."
I nodded in acknowledgement to what he said then turned to look at her one more time, and unfortunately, she was gone.
I felt uneased a bit as i couldn't find her at that same spot she was but brushed off the feelings and turned back to Alpha Hades.
He made a smirk, an intense one at that, which was almost challenging, as if he was daring me to question him. But I didn’t. I couldn’t. Instead, I nodded again and prepared myself for whatever he had in mind.
Without another word, he signaled for the start of the training, and we both dove into the pool. The water was cool against my skin, refreshing in a way that made me feel more awake, more focused.
I pushed myself hard, determined not to let the Alpha out do me, even if my mind was still clouded with uncertainty.
We swam back and forth, racing each other with a fierce determination that bordered on desperation. Each stroke of my arms through the water felt like a release, a way to channel all the confusion and frustration I’d been feeling since last night.
And for a while, it worked. The physical activity cleared my mind, it also allowed me to focus on something other than the Alpha’s strange behavior.
As we finished the first race, I glanced at Alpha Hades, expecting to see the same frustration in his eyes that had been there earlier. But instead, I saw something else, a kind of respect, maybe even admiration.
“You’re stronger than most werewolves I’ve trained,” he said,
A small smile tugged at my lips despite the tension that still lingered between us.
“Thank you, Alpha,” I replied, as a chilling feeling of pride coursed my skin at his compliment. It wasn’t often that I received praise, especially from someone like him.
We continued training, the races became more intense with each lap. Alpha Hades pushed harder, and I matched his pace, refusing to back down.
After what felt like hours, Damian finally called for a break. He handed us both drinks, and I took mine gratefully. The cool liquid helped to welcome relief inside my bosom after the strenuous exercise.
As we stood by the edge of the pool, catching our breath, Damian made an observation that caught me off guard. “I don’t think I’ve seen you this engaged in a long time, Alpha,” he remarked, turning to Alpha Hades.
Alpha Hades didn’t respond immediately, but I could see the wheels turning in his mind. He looked at me, and for a brief moment, I thought he was going to say something personal, something that might give me a glimpse into what was really going on in his head. But then, he simply nodded.
“Maybe this means I’m getting closer to being recognized by the Alpha,” I said, disrupting them with a playful grin, and they turned to face me.
To my surprise, both Damian and Alpha Hades scoffed and laughed out loud.
Woah! I was funny!
I joined the chorus and laughed alongside.
As we laughed and chatted, I took another sip of my drink.
After a while, I started feeling lightheaded, it was as if my body was going to fall down. My eyes started getting dizzy.
At first, I tried to shake it off, thinking it was just exhaustion from the training,
"C'mon Anita. Let's go in for another race." Alpha Hades suggested, turning to me.
"I'm- I'm coming please." I said to him slowly, trying to regain my sanity because at this moment, my head was already wobbling.
As Alpha Hades suggested another race, I found myself struggling to stay focused. Still, not wanting to show any sign of weakness, so I agreed, determined to push through.
But as soon as I dived into the water, I knew something was wrong. The world around me spun, the water closing in like a dark abyss. I tried to swim, to resurface, but my limbs felt heavy and unresponsive.
Panic set in as I realized I couldn’t reach the surface. My vision blurred, and the last thing I saw was Alpha Hades’ figure rushing toward me before everything went black.
Anita’s PovDarkness engulfed me, an oppressive weight pressing down on my chest as I struggled to breathe. The last thing I remembered was the cool water surrounding me, the familiar feeling of being in control, until that sudden wave of dizziness took it all away.I felt my body betray me, refusing to respond as I desperately tried to reach the surface. But the darkness had other plans, pulling me under, deeper and deeper, until everything faded away.I was floating now, somewhere between consciousness and oblivion, my thoughts disjointed and scattered. Memories of the past mixed with fragments of the present, creating an alarming pattern of images and sensations.I saw the forest, the tall trees casting long shadows as I stumbled through them. My body was battered and bruised, and every step sent a jolt of pain through me, but I couldn’t stop. I couldn’t let them catch me.The wolves were close behind, their snarls growing louder, more ferocious with every passing second. I could f
Anita’s PovAs I walked into the packhouse, still trying to process everything that had happened by the pool, I couldn’t shake the uneasy feeling that clung to me. My mind kept drifting back to the way Alpha Hades had reacted, how he had blamed himself for not protecting me. But more than that, it was the way he looked at me, like he was seeing something he hadn’t noticed before and that unsettled me the most.I pulled my jacket tighter around myself, the chilling breeze added a tension knotting in my stomach.I had excused myself when Alpha Hades was scolding Kira and reaching there now, him and Damian were gone.Suddenly, I caught sight of Kira, standing near the entrance. Her eyes locked onto mine, and a sinister smile slowly spread across her lips.“So,” she began, her voice dripping with disdain, as she moved close to me. “I didn’t expect you to make Alpha Hades fall for you so easily.”I stopped in my tracks as her words cut through the air like a blade. “What are you talking ab
Anita’s PovDamian, the Beta, stepped forward, his face lined with concern. “Alpha,” he began cautiously, “Kira was handling some important tasks, and with her demotion, we’re going to face challenges. It’s not easy to replace her, not immediately. I’ve seen you make impulsive decisions before, but this one—”Alpha Hades cut him off with a sharp look, his voice as cold as the winter wind. “Damian, not firing her without delay was already an act of mercy. You know the laws of the pack. Betrayal is not tolerated.”I dared to glance up at him, and our eyes met for a brief moment. His gaze softened, just slightly, before he turned back to Damian. “Anita will take over some of those tasks,” he declared. “She’s my assistant now, and I trust her to handle it.”My heart skipped a beat at his words. Trust. It was such a small word, but coming from Alpha Hades, it carried immense weight. My chest tightened with fear.Could I really live up to his expectations? Did he truly trust me, or was this
Anita’s PovI smiled, though it felt a little forced, and then, I confirmed what Damian had asked me earlier."Yes, it’s true," I added, though with an unsure look because I still haven't digested the actions of my mate.If he was truly with or for me. If he would still come back to take me along with him.Damian sighed, “It’s just that…” he began, then hesitated as if weighing whether to continue or not.“Apart from work and his mate, the Alpha rarely shows interest in anyone else. But O think you’ve caught his attention, which isn’t something that happens often. And to be honest, I also think your presence could help him feel better, especially since he’s been in a bad mood lately.” he added. Then his eyes flicked over to Alpha Hades, who was still standing a short distance away with an unreadable expression.Damian then looked back at me with a softened gaze. “But since you’re married, it’s probably best if you keep your distance.”The words hit me like a cold splash of water. I op
Anita’s PovJust as I was about to head toward my quarters, Alpha Hades appeared at the entrance, his gaze fixed on me. “Let me take you home,” he offered, his voice carrying a note of concern that I hadn’t expected.I shook my head, trying to manage a smile. “Thank you, but I’ll be fine. I don’t want to trouble you any more than I already have.”His brow furrowed slightly, “Anita, I insist. You’ve been through a lot, and I can’t let you go back alone in your condition.”The warmth in his voice tugged at something inside me, but I resisted the pull. I waved my phone in the air and then offered him a reassuring smile, “Don’t worry. Someone’s coming to pick me up.”His eyes narrowed and skepticism became evident in his expression, “Who?” he asked.I hesitated, but only for a moment before I dialed Zach's number. The phone rang twice before a his cheerful, deep voice answered, “Honey!”I could practically feel Alpha Hades freeze beside me, his entire demeanor shifting. There was somethi
Anita’s PovAs I was walking down to the car, I noticed the driver's seat opening revealing Zach who came out immediately.I smiled as he did and for a moment, the tension in the air seems to rise.I could see the smiley face he had when he came out of the car, slowly fading away. And this happened when he saw the way Alpha Hades was watching us. His eyes became dark and sharp. But Zach, ever the one to lighten the mood, walked over with a confident stride, giving a quick nod to Alpha Hades before turning his attention fully to me.“You look like you’ve been through the wringer,” Zach said as he gently took my arm. “Are you okay?”I forced a smile, hoping it would be enough to reassure him. “I’m fine, really. It’s just been… a long day.”Zach didn’t seem convinced. His eyes scanned my face, lingering on the fatigue I knew was there. “You don’t look fine,” he said with a concerned look in his face. “What happened?”I hesitated, not wanting to go into the details in front of Alpha Hades
Anita’s PovThe morning sunlight filtered through the windows of my small office, casting a warm glow across the desk as I settled in to go through the files Beta Damian had handed me.The task was straightforward, and as I began sorting through the documents, I allowed myself to relax slightly, finding a strange comfort in the routine work. But as I immersed myself in the reports, something caught my attention. A faint wobbling sound echoed from behind me, growing louder and more louder at each passing second. At first, I ignored it, not wanting to think of any given problem or sort of.But the noise kept coming as if it was something was stumbling or rolling a non stop race with a growing sound in my ears.My heart skipped a beat as I turned just in time to see the large decorative ornament hanging on the wall behind me wobbling dangerously. My breath caught in my throat as I realized it was about to fall off its hook. Before I could react, I heard footsteps rushing toward my office
Anita’s POV:I still couldn’t believe my father was gone. His death was so sudden, so inexplicable, that it felt like I was living in a nightmare I couldn’t wake up from. I had been his only daughter, his pride, and joy, and now I was left alone, drowning in a sea of grief. The pack had always been my family, my home, but without my father, it felt like a prison. It wasn’t long after his death that my stepmother, Evelyn, and my stepsister, Amara, began their vicious campaign against me. At first, I didn’t understand what was happening. I was too wrapped up in my own sorrow, too blinded by my pain to see the venom in their eyes, the malice in their smiles. They whispered behind closed doors, their voices like a thousand tiny knives, cutting away at my heart.“She’s unstable,” Evelyn would say, her voice dripping with feigned concern. “She hasn’t been the same since her father died.”“I saw her in the woods the night he died,” Amara added one day, her eyes narrowing with false suspicion
