Anita's Pov
I had just settled into bed, my thoughts still swirling from the strange events of the evening. The flowers, Zach’s warnings, and the familiar voice in the hallway—it was all too much to process, yet it still felt like something wasn’t adding up. But before I could let my mind wander too far, my phone buzzed on the bedside table.
I frowned, reaching over to pick it up. It wasn’t often that I got calls this late, especially from an unknown number. But when I glanced at the screen, my heart skipped a beat.
It was Alpha Hades.
My fingers froze over the screen for a moment, unsure of what to expect. Why was he calling me now, of all times? I hesitated, but eventually, curiosity won out, and I answered the call.
“Hello?” I said cautiously,
There was a pause on the other end, a strange, heavy silence, and then I heard it, his voice. It was low and blur.
“My mate…”
I blinked as my heart was pounding in my chest. His voice was different from what I was used to. He sounded. Confused. And was he drunk?
“Alpha Hades?” I asked, sitting up in bed, my mind racing. “What are you talking about?”
“My mate,” he repeated, his voice even more strained this time. “Why doesn’t she want me? Why would she let another man into her home?”
I brought the phone to my face, staring at it, What was he talking about? My mate? Another man?
“Alpha Hades, please what are you talking about? Are you okay?” I asked, my concern growing in my voice.
Something was wrong. Very wrong. I had never heard him like this before. He spoke like someone so broken.
“She… she let him live there,” he mumbled, his words barely making sense. “She opened the door for him, let him… let him in.”
My heart thumped in my chest as his words began to sink in. Was he talking about me? My mind raced, trying to piece together the fragments of his drunken rambling. And then it hit me like he was talking about earlier that night. When he had shown up at the apartment, when Zach had answered the door.
Had he thought…?
“Alpha Hades,” I said, trying to keep my voice calm despite the sudden rush of emotions flooding within me. “Where are you?”
He didn’t respond immediately, but I could hear him muttering something under his breath.
I strained to listen, catching snippets of his drunken confessions, something about wanting to live a good life with his mate, about how everything was supposed to be different.
“Alpha Hades, where are you?” I asked again, my tone was more insistent this time.
“I’m not at the packhouse,” he said, his voice trailing off. “I’m at… somewhere else. It doesn’t matter. Nothing matters.”
I felt a surge of panic rising in my chest. He wasn’t making sense, and from the sound of it, he was completely drunk. I needed to find him. I couldn’t just leave him like this, all alone at wherever he was.
“Tell me where you are,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady. “I’ll come get you.”
There was a long pause on the other end of the line, and then he muttered something which I couldn't grasp before finally giving me an address.
It wasn’t far from my apartment though, just a few blocks away. Without thinking twice, I grabbed my jacket, slipped on my shoes, and rushed out the door.
The night air was cool, the streets quiet as I hurried down the sidewalk, my mind racing with questions that I couldn't place right.
When I arrived at the address he had given me, I found myself standing in front of a small, dimly lit bar. The door was slightly open, and the faint sound of music drifted out into the night. I pushed the door open and stepped inside, my eyes scanning the room.
There he was.
Hades sat slumped in a booth near the back of the bar, an empty glass was in front of him and a half-empty bottle of whiskey at his side. His head was resting on the table, and from the way his body was slouched, I could tell he was completely out of it. My heart clenched at the sight of him.
The strong, powerful Alpha, was reduced to this?
I moved closer to him slowly, unsure of how to handle the situation. As I reached the booth, I knelt down beside him, gently placing a hand on his arm.
“Alpha Hades,” I whispered, my voice soft but firm, “Can you hear me?”
He stirred slightly, lifting his head just enough to look at me through his blurry eyes. His gaze wasn't steady, but when he saw me, something flickered in his expression. Maybe realisation. Yes it was.
“Anita…” he muttered, his voice low. “You came?”
“Of course I did,” I said, my heart ached after seeing the state he was in, “Let’s get you out of here, okay? You need to go home.”
But as I tried to help him up, he grabbed my arm, pulling me down beside him. The sudden movement knocked over the glass of whiskey, spilling its contents across the table.
I gasped, trying to steady myself, but Alpha Hades was already pulling me closer.
His hand cupped my cheek, his touch surprisingly gentle despite the clumsiness of his drunken state. His eyes locked onto mine, and for a moment, I saw his weakness there—the pain, the confusion, the longing.
My heart started thumping loud against my chest as my cheek flushed pink immediately.
“Why didn’t you want me?” he mumbled under his breath, “Why would you let another man live with you?”
My breath caught in my throat as his words sank in. He had come to my apartment. He had seen Zach, and he had assumed…
“Alpha Hades,” I whispered, my voice trembling. “You… you thought Zach was…?”
He didn’t answer, his gaze still locked on mine, but the pain in his eyes said everything. He thought I had betrayed him. He thought I had let someone else into my life, into my heart.
I shook my head, trying to clear the confusion. “Alpha Hades, no… Zach’s my friend. My best friend’s brother. He’s like family to me. There’s nothing going on between us.”
But he wasn’t listening. He was too far gone, too lost in his own hurt, in the shadow of the alcohol which he had taken.
His hand slid from my cheek to the back of my neck, pulling me closer until our faces were inches apart.
“I thought…” he whispered, his voice cracking, “I thought I was losing you.”
I swallowed hard, my heart pounding in my chest. I could feel the heat of his breath on my lips, the intensity of his gaze pulling me in.
“You’re not losing me,” I whispered back, my voice barely audible. “You’re not.”
For a moment, time seemed to stand still. The world around us faded away, and all I could see was him, this man who had always been so strong, so controlled, now weak and broken in front of me. And in that moment, something shifted between us. Something I couldn’t quite explain.
Before I could say anything else, Alpha Hades closed the distance between us, his lips connected with mine in a soft, abrupt kiss.
My eyes widened as I froze instantly.
Hade’s PovThe warmth of Anita’s lips lingered on mine. It was soft and luscious, but as I deepened the kiss, something shifted within me. My hands moved to her jacket, fingers fumbling as I began to peel it off her shoulders, but just as I was about to pull her closer, a sudden realization hit me. A cold, uneased clarity breaking through the fog of my drunken mind. This wasn’t right. This wasn’t my mate.I froze instantly, my hands stopping mid-motion. The haze of alcohol clouding my thoughts began to lift, replaced by a sickening wave of confusion and guilt. I pulled back, blinking, staring at Anita’s face. The woman in front of me wasn’t my mate. She was my assistant, Anita. A sharp pang of shame shot through me as I realized how far I had let this go.I sat up straight, withdrawing my hands from her jacket, my heart pounding in my chest."Anita…" I breathed, the apology thick in my throat. "I—I'm so sorry. This… this was a mistake. I didn’t—"She brushed off the apology before I c
Hade’s PovImmediately, Anita push me off her body and struggled up quickly, making way to run out but then, I reached out, grabbing her arm before she could escape.“Wait! Why are you leaving?” I said with an agonizing tone. She tried pulling her hands away slightly, but I held on, confused by her sudden urge to run. Her eyes were wide and I could see her heart thumping loudly against her chest as if she couldn’t get out of here fast enough.“I shouldn’t be here,” she said, her voice trembling. “What if your mate shows up? I don’t want to be misunderstood.”Her words hit me like a bucket of cold water, sobering me up just a little. My mate?Although her concerns were real, and in that moment, I realized how all of this must have looked from her perspective.I scoffed, releasing her arm, but not moving away from her. “She’s not coming here,” I muttered, bitterness seeping into my voice. “She wouldn’t. Not now. Not ever.”Anita’s brow furrowed, clearly not understanding the weight behi
Anita’s PovI sat, frozen on the couch, my arms wrapped tightly around myself, trying to make sense of the whirlwind of emotions that had swept through the room since Damian had arrived.Alpha Hades was acting out of character, more vulnerable and raw than I’d ever seen him, but the more he spoke, the more I realized there were layers to this man I didn’t fully understand. As I stood there, trying to process the conversation between the two men, a heavy silence filled the room. Damian’s eyes flicked to me briefly before settling back on Alpha Hades. He had mentioned something about the Alpha’s injury, a piece of information that sent a chill down my spine.Injuries to an Alpha were a serious matter, especially when it concerned the safety of the entire pack. The fact that I knew about it now, as a rogue, it complicated things further. I wasn’t supposed to know about it at all. I wasn’t supposed to be involved in any of this.Alpha Hades turned toward me, his gaze dark and calculating.
Hade’s PovAnger coursed through my veins, hot and pulsing, as Damian’s words echoed in my head. The way he said it—as if I should have simply followed the elders’ orders and married a Luna of equal standing and that got me infuriated. I clenched my fists, trying to control the surge of emotion, but it was no use. Damian had pushed me too far.I turned to face him, my voice low and dangerous. “Enough, Damian.” Damian knew better than to question me like this, especially when it came to my mate. He didn’t understand. No one did.“Alpha, I’m just—”I cut him off sharply with a growl,“Don’t. You have no idea what you’re talking about.”The room was suddenly too small, too confining. I felt trapped by my own anger, by the constant reminder of what I had lost. My mate had betrayed me, shattered every shred of trust I had once held. And yet, here was Damian, throwing it all back in my face, as if I should’ve just followed the rules and done what the pack wanted.A heavy silence fell over u
Anita’s PovI stood there, watching Alpha Hades’ reaction as I tried to process everything that had just happened. The whole situation felt surreal, as if I were trapped in a strange dream that I couldn’t wake up from. What had started as a simple task of assisting the Alpha had spiraled into something much more complicated, leaving me feeling off balance and unsure of how to proceed.Alpha Hades had reacted so strongly when my forehead had brushed against his lips, so strongly that it left me questioning why it had affected him so much.To me, it wasn’t a big deal. Accidents happen, and it wasn’t like I had intended for it to happen. But the way he recoiled, the way his eyes widened in shock as if something important had occurred, made me realize there was more going on beneath the surface.I couldn’t help but wonder what he was thinking, but before I could say anything, he quickly instructed Damian to escort me out. His tone was clipped, as if he were trying to regain control of a s
Anita’s PovAs I approached the pool, I spotted Damian waiting for me. He was already dressed in his swimwear, his usual stoic expression masking whatever thoughts might have been swirling around in his head. He greeted me with a nod, his eyes were scanning my face as if searching for something.“Ready for training?” he asked.I nodded, trying to push my lingering doubts to the back of my mind. “Ready as I’ll ever be.”Damian led the way to the pool, and as we stepped onto the deck, I noticed Alpha Hades was already there. He was standing in the shallow end, his phone pressed to his ear, his posture tense. His voice carried over the water, sharp and frustrated, as he spoke to whoever was on the other end of the line.“I don’t care about the complications,” he snapped with a tone laced with impatience. “I need this annulment processed as soon as possible. No more delays.”Annulment? The word echoed in my mind, sending a pang through my chest. He was still determined to sever the bond w
Anita’s PovDarkness engulfed me, an oppressive weight pressing down on my chest as I struggled to breathe. The last thing I remembered was the cool water surrounding me, the familiar feeling of being in control, until that sudden wave of dizziness took it all away.I felt my body betray me, refusing to respond as I desperately tried to reach the surface. But the darkness had other plans, pulling me under, deeper and deeper, until everything faded away.I was floating now, somewhere between consciousness and oblivion, my thoughts disjointed and scattered. Memories of the past mixed with fragments of the present, creating an alarming pattern of images and sensations.I saw the forest, the tall trees casting long shadows as I stumbled through them. My body was battered and bruised, and every step sent a jolt of pain through me, but I couldn’t stop. I couldn’t let them catch me.The wolves were close behind, their snarls growing louder, more ferocious with every passing second. I could f
Anita’s PovAs I walked into the packhouse, still trying to process everything that had happened by the pool, I couldn’t shake the uneasy feeling that clung to me. My mind kept drifting back to the way Alpha Hades had reacted, how he had blamed himself for not protecting me. But more than that, it was the way he looked at me, like he was seeing something he hadn’t noticed before and that unsettled me the most.I pulled my jacket tighter around myself, the chilling breeze added a tension knotting in my stomach.I had excused myself when Alpha Hades was scolding Kira and reaching there now, him and Damian were gone.Suddenly, I caught sight of Kira, standing near the entrance. Her eyes locked onto mine, and a sinister smile slowly spread across her lips.“So,” she began, her voice dripping with disdain, as she moved close to me. “I didn’t expect you to make Alpha Hades fall for you so easily.”I stopped in my tracks as her words cut through the air like a blade. “What are you talking ab
