CHAPTER 73

~Blaze’s POV~

I woke up first.

Morning came with a quiet stillness. The soft glow of early sunlight seeped through the curtains, casting a golden hue across the room.

Kaia was still fast asleep beside me, her breathing steady, her body relaxed. The tension she usually carried in her shoulders was gone, replaced by the peaceful calm of deep slumber.

For a moment, I just watched her.

It was… unusual, waking up next to her like this. The previous night had been different—intimate in a way I hadn’t expected. Not just because of the kiss, but because of the way she had let herself be vulnerable around me. The way she had asked me to stay.

And I had.

A part of me knew this was dangerous territory. Getting close to Kaia meant stepping into something I had tried to avoid since this marriage started—feelings.

With a quiet sigh, I carefully slipped out of bed, making sure not to disturb her. She stirred slightly, her lips parting as if she might wake, but she didn’t.

I had spent most of the morning in the living room, flipping through magazines and trying to keep my thoughts from drifting to the events of the past few days, especially this morning in the bathroom with him. Just that already brought thoughts of our intense fucking. Umm, well, lovemaking, and even though Blaze could act like it was nothing or it didn’t happen. It did for me, and I might say it was the best I had ever had.I sighed, my shoulders slouching. No matter how hard I tried, my curiosity kept tugging at me, leading me to one place: the room, Blaze’s secret room.I stood up and walked away. First to the kitchen and then to the swimming pool and then… I was so deep in my thoughts that I didn’t even realise where I was walking to.It wasn’t intentional, or so I told myself. Watching Blaze fumble through cooking under his grandmother’s watchful eye had been both hilarious and strangely endearing.I had expected him to find a way out of it, to make some excuse or order food instead, but he had actually tried. And the food was good. From what I could gather, he could cook. I guess it was just us watching that made things different.I padded toward the bed, stretching my arms before sitting on the edge. Moments later, Blaze strolled in, running a hand through his hair. His white dress shirt was unbuttoned at the top, the sleeves rolled up, making him look effortlessly handsome. He caught me watching and smirked. “What? Still thinking about my culinary masterpiece?”I let out a small laugh, shaking my head. “Masterpiece is a strong word.”Blaze placed a hand over his chest mockingly. “I’m offended.”I rolled my eyes. “You nearly burned th

Maybe it was because, for the first time since our fight concerning Iris, Blaze and I had managed to have a night without trying to rip each other’s heads off.I wasn’t foolish enough to think things were magically different between us now, but at least we weren’t at war. That had to count for something.I decided not to stay at home with his grandmother today and focus on work. I needed my life to continue, not to be at a standstill.I stepped into my office, expecting to spend the first hour going through reports, but instead, I was met with a sight that made me blink in surprise.David.David Mercer, CEO of Mercer Enterprises, one of the biggest competitors in our industry, was casually seated on the edge of my desk like he owned the place."Mrs. Black," he greeted smoothly, flashing that trademark smirk. "Or should I say Kaia? You look radiant as ever."I fold

Blaze had stepped into the bathroom for a shower, leaving me to my thoughts.Everything about today had been exhausting. From David’s unexpected visit to the office to Blaze’s over-the-top jealousy, I was drained.Blaze was getting possessive, and I couldn’t understand why. Was it just his ego? Or something else entirely?A notification popped up on my phone screen, pulling me from my thoughts. I reached for it, unlocking the screen to see a message from David.David Mercer: If you ever want out of your situation with Blaze, I’m more than happy to offer you a position elsewhere. No strings attached.I frowned. Out of my situation? It wasn’t shocking that David saw through my marriage. He was smart, and he had always been perceptive. But still, what was he getting at? High-profile investors, networking opportunities—the works. If you’re interested, I’d love for you to be my plus one."I stared at the message, chewing my lip.Going out with David Mercer wasn’t exactly the best idea. He was charming, flirtatious, and, most importantly, a thorn in Blaze’s side.Which meant…A slow smirk tugged at my lips. Would it be petty? Absolutely. Would it piss Blaze off? Without a doubt. But after what happened earlier—after the way he trapped me against the wall, kissed me, then refused to answer me when I asked if he loved me—I was done playing it safe.I quickly typed my response.Kaia: Sounds like a good networking opportunity. I’ll be there.David’s reply came almost immediately.David: Excellent. I’ll send a car to pick you up at 8.I put my phone down, exhaling deeply. Was t

Really?”I arched a brow. “It was business.”Blaze let out a humourless laugh. “Bullshit. You knew exactly what you were doing.”My fingers tightened around my clutch. “Oh? I barely had time to breathe, much less think about anything else.It was Friday afternoon when Blaze knocked on my office door, stepped inside without waiting for a full reply, and leaned casually against the frame."You’re coming with me to an event tonight," he said, like it wasn’t up for debate.I blinked up from my laptop. "Event?"He smirked. "Gala. Big business celebration. One of my oldest associates is throwing it. I need you to be my date."I set my pen down slowly. "You need me?"He shrugged, unbothered. "You’re beautiful, smart, and far less annoying than most women who’d kill to be on my arm. Plus, I like looking at you."I rolled my eyes, but my cheeks warmed at his words. "You could have just said you wanted company."He chuckled. "Maybe. But then you’d have thought you had a choice."That evening, I found myself s

But Kayne’s gaze was inward, fixed on the amber liquid swirling in his glass as his feet rested on the cool surface of the glass coffee table. The intercom’s soft buzz broke the silence. “Sir, Mr. Draven is here.”A smile touched Kayne’s lips. He stood and straightened the cuffs of his shirt. “Send him up.”Two minutes later, the door yielded, and Draven Davion entered. Dressed in a black shirt and dark jeans, his attire suggested ease, yet his presence never did. He moved with confidence into his cousin’s house while his eyes raked the surroundings. “Nice place,” Draven commented, his gaze sweeping over the penthouse a second time as though taking in anything he missed on first glance. “As expected.”Kayne chuckled, extend
