A pretty thing, I won't lie. But just like I said, a pretty "Thing". She's like an empty can, painted with beautiful colors. Her voice sounds exactly like an empty can when it meets the floor. She has been yapping non stop right after I introduced myself as Ronan's date and politely asked her to discard her hand that was wrapped around Ronan's arm. She of course obeyed but for some reason I dislike it, now I have no reason to punish her. Well, if she continues with this yapping, someone will have to shut her up and I will be more than happy to do so.

"My yatch is so amazing, you have to come and watch the sea with me sometime, you'll love it" She squeals with a bright smile on her face which I immediately remove with just a sentence.

"He won't be able to do so, Ronan here gets sea sick." I say without flavor. Her face becomes red all over, almost matching the red one eyed mask she wore

"How would you know?" She tries to sound mature and unbothered but fails terribly. I smile sweetly

Fucking Rico! I'm seriously going to fuck him up. Especially for making me go through this stress, like I've not had enough of it. I track his location with my phone as I follow it up the stairs. It leads to the rooftop where I see Rico, curled up like a ball on the floor. I rush over to him, he groans in pain as I pull him up to his feet. "Run" He mutters weakly. My eyebrows furrow."What?"The sound of a gun clicks and in a flash, I remove my dagger from my garter and fling it at the person behind me. My hands pull Rico fully to his feet and I push him away from me. "leave. Will deal with you later" my voice sounds weak, I do feel weak. I must have really overworked myself this time. Rico leaps away from me and escapes through the back door. I turn to face the fucker behind me. It's the same waiter, he still has the mask covering his face but his sleeves are folded up to his elbow and I can now clearly see the tattoo on his left hand. His left hand wraps around the gun in his hand i

I killed him. At last. The walls of my room echoes of my loud groan. So I'm reduced to a girl who lays binded to her bed by handcuffs with only her phone to act as her source of entertainment, playing games meant for teenage kids. I hate games, Tiana loves them. She beats me at every one of it and maybe that is why I hate them so much but today I find solace in it. Helena told me she had already bathed me while I was unconscious so I have no reason to leave my bed. She also spoon fed me my breakfast which I found completely annoying and frustrating. "What if I want to pee?" "Ring the bell and Butcher will come take the cuffs off and then return it after you are done. No funny movements" She warned, pointing the spoon at me. They really did me dirty. Now I'm stuck.I go back to the home screen on my phone and search for another means of entertainment. I find none. How do people live like this? Instagram, the rainbow colored, small size shaped instant camera stares right back at me. I

The shuttle sound of my blinds when I pull them down. The way I slam the last file that needed my signature, my last sip of my coffee and the small buzz my laptop makes when I shut it down so I can get ready to leave for Moscow. Don't get the wrong idea, it's been long since I've been there and it has really great views and sites. I'm only curious to see how it looks like now not because of the insanely handsome man who has a gift waiting for me in Moscow. As much as I would love to deny it, it's the truth. The promised gift has been the only thing on my mind since I woke up which was exactly at 12 in the freaking morning. I'll be spending a week over there. To talk about business, I'd like an overview of businesses where I could invest in and open a branch for my sole business. There is nothing like "enough wealth" you always have to keep investing and growing business beneath you. Being a Ceo of "The Jewels" fashion line as been by greatest pride. I'm sure I've mentioned my love for

"Miss, we've arrived." My eyes flutter awake by the sound of the stewardess voice. Again with the smile, her eyes beam down at me. How do they manage to look like this for the whole day? I realize I'm still seated on my seat with my legs crossed and my head resting on the knuckles of my right hand on the arm rest. She moves to grab my bag but I stop her with my hand on her wrist. Clearly not expecting that, she jumped, I roll my eyes. "I can handle it. Thanks." I send her a tight-lipped smile as I check my bag and make sure everything is intact and pick it up. The first thing that greets me as I make my way done the few plane steps is the cold wind of Moscow. I should have brought a coat or jacket. " Here," Andrei must have read my thoughts or saw me shiver because he instantly covers me with his thick long coat. "Thank you" I mutter to him, glad that my voice didn't sound like dry fish this time. We landed on the in the railway backyard of a building, I look around. It's surrounde

I'm starting to think that Bonnie doesn't like me that much with the way her greenish brown eyes glare daggers at me but I'm caught by surprise when she bows slightly at me. "I didn't know you were the guest he had over, Miss Veleno." She says with a sly smirk lining her pouty lips as she raises her head. Oh, I see. She must have heard of me. My face has never been this expressive before. My eyebrows are up the roof and my lips stretch to a full amusing smile. I look back at Rolan. He simply shrugs at me. "Why are you here Bonnie?" Rolan questions without much flavor in his voice. I guess I'm the only he prefers to see. How nice. Bonnie struts over in her pink heels. She walks past me to Ronan's desk where she brings out a brown file from her bag and slides it over to Ronan's front with a little stretch forward. Clearly to make him see her perky boobs underneath her shawl. Unfortunately for her, Rolan is more interested in the brown file in front of him. He opens it and checks th

Did I really make a good decision of coming here? I walk briskly to the front, ignoring his piercing gaze at my back. Andrie opens the back seat door of the shiny black Rolls Royce and I immediately step in. Andrei and Ronan remain outside the car and I wonder what is it they're talking about. After a few seconds, they both get inside. With Andrie in the driver's seat and Ronan getting in beside me. Andrei starts the car and drives out of the parking lot. My eyes take in the wonderful sight of Moscow. Although the area we are is very much modern and techy but it looks beautiful still. We pass by Rolan's hotel. The Crowns hotel, one of the best hotels in Russia and in other countries as well. Aren't I one lucky latina? Taking one last glance at the hotel before It passes my sight, I realize it looks familiar and not in the "I must have seen it in the news or something familiar" but in the, I've seen it up close before. It wrenches my heart in a tight grip. My grip on the fork tightens every fucking second. I loathe it, the crippling undisguised feeling of loneliness and deja vu with a collaboration with irony slipping down my veins, spreading throughout my body. I did not make a good decision coming to Moscow. "Are you alright, dear?" Mrs Dimitri's sweet fruity voice breaks me out of the humiliating feeling of self pity and loath but still I manage to send a smile to her when I reply, "Everything is alright."I feel the scorching heat of Rolan's gaze on me,burning my side profile where he stared. His family isn't at all what I stereotyped to be. It beats my motion of never to be suprise by the reality of life. I expected a sophisticated home with intricate and complicated designs and a long dining table made for royal families with each person sitting five feet apart from one another but instead I enter a comfy home that smells like holidays with the heat turned on to make the body warm and comforta

Nothing in this world prepared me for this. All my years, I've been taught control and how to stay in control, how to make people bend to my rules without objections. It has never been a chore for me. That is, making people bend. I never had to apply too much pressure, call it a gift. Sometimes it gets boring, watching people do my bidding without objections or any say to the matter. They just.... Do it. Of course any objections will result to immediate execution but won't it be more fun if they did?I stare at Christian's calloused hands, how they grip the silverware utensils with a gentleness a man like him should not be able to posses. Those hands, dosed in blood of many raised me into what I am today. Never will I complain of the world I happen to fall into. Many would expect me to wail and lament of how horrible it was growing up but no, it wasn't. To some, it is but to me it was more of an entertainment. I live everyday, eager for what tomorrow will bring. I have everything yet

"I went into the kitchen and made one of my favorite tea recipes, Creamy vanilla flavored peach ice tea. Taught your chef something new today, he should pay me." Mrs. Dimitri makes me smile again when I see her holding two plastic cups with dome lids filled with a foamy peak creamy orange-colored iced tea."I knew it would make you smile." She hands me a cup, and I take it, uttering a small thank you. The cold drink somehow makes me feel better about the drive. Costa, our driver, leads us to the Lexus where we take our seats at the back and settle. She watches me with eager eyes as I place the straw between my lips and take a long sip of my drink. My eyes close involuntarily; the heavenly taste commands them to do so. The sweet peach flavor bursts on my tongue, mixed with the vanilla ... I can't help but hum in approval at the taste.I pull the straw away. "It is divine." I moan before slipping the straw back in and enjoying the rest of it."I'm glad you love it. There is more where i

I will still make my usual visits, although the first few months after the wedding will be hard, but we'll get through it. In the meantime, meet my mother-in-law, Mrs. Dimitri.")I go to hug his right hand tightly so he can get the hint, and he does. His eyes widen in surprise, then in panic. He laughs nervously as he stretches out his hand for a shake."I'm Charles, nice to meet you." I sigh. At least his English is getting better."You do a good job here. I've never been to a winery before; it looks great." Mrs. Dimitri praises him while shaking his outstretched hand.A small blush takes over Charles' face as he thinks of what to say back to her in English. I immediately turn him away. "Please forgive him; he's flustered, and his English stil

I start the engine and drive outside of the garage, down the lane to the ranch. The sun shines on the smooth green pastures where the cows are out and scattered, chewing on the grasses without a care in the world, surrounded by white wooden gates of medium height. A worker is right at the left corner of the field; he spots me and waves with his hat. I do the same as I drive by.“This looks beautiful. I must say I'm surprised,” Mrs. Dimitri looks amazed by the view in front of her. “You manage the whole ranch?”“I have help. It's not easy running the mafia and a ranch,” I say as I take a turn to the right, heading up the hill toward the stables. It's beginning to get hot, and I hope it won't be a problem for Mrs. Dimitri.“No, it's not, but you're doing a good job, dearie,” she cooes. I feel her gaze on me, but I don't divert my eyes away from the road. “Will you be able to leave this behind?” Another feeling of déjà vu washes through me again. My lips tug upwards; she notices. “Did I

“So it's okay when you're grumpy and wicked at any time of the day, but when I do it, it's wrong?” Her eyebrows and nose scrunch. She looks offended.I run my hands through my messy hair and scoot back on my bed till my back touches the headboard. “First of all, I didn't say it was wrong. I said it was too early, and of course, the same does not apply to me because I'm the boss.” My arms fold underneath my bosom, and I shrug with a smug look on my face. For some reason, getting on Tiana’s nerves makes me feel good this morning. She raises her fist as if to punch me, but I immediately raise my hands high in surrender. “Just joking. What has your knickers in a twist?”She huffs again. I eye her outfit. Did she sleep in her suit, or did she dress up before coming to my room? But it's very early, and her clothes look ruffled. It's either she slept in it or she didn't sleep at all. Poor thing.“Your board members are so slow!”“Too much caffeine does that to one. And I've been overworking

"She likes gardening. She also likes to read but had to put a stop to that when it began to strain her eyes. She loves animals and will definitely love to hear how you've been managing the ranch after your father passed. Mother is not as energetic as she should be. She won't take up most of your time; she only wants to bond with someone who's about to be a member of her family, no need to be nervous. As long as you don't treat her like a patient… you both are good to go."I'm tongue-tied and unprepared. I totally wasn't expecting him to try and help me out. If all he said is true, then having a conversation won't be so bad. I did tell him my problem, and just like he promised, he helped find a solution for me. Maybe this marriage thing is going to work. I find myself smiling like a fool; my face brightens up, and I immediately return to reality."If you say so, I would have no problem speaking to her then. Thanks for telling me what she likes.""And you don't necessarily have to talk

We step inside together, but I immediately excuse myself when my phone starts to ring, fortunately for me. "I will try my best to join you for dinner. Please feel at home. Martha here is available for all you need help with; I will be in my study." With that, I bow to her. When I raise my head, she's looking at me with the same intent gaze that Rolan often directs at me. Like she's studying me, with the intention of knowing everything about me and acing every test and exam about me. Just like Rolan’s stares, hers also make me uncomfortable and nervous. I don't let her study me for long as I nod at Martha and take quick steps to the elevator.“Why is my heart beating this way?” I mutter under my breath as I rub my chest where my heart lies with a little force.“You should see a doctor. He would know the answer to that,” comes a snarky response from behind me, right before I open the door to my room. My eyes widen, and my legs move before I think. The disturbance in my chest is replace

I'm coming from the airport with Rolan's mother in the passenger seat. Roland was kind enough to let me know of his mother's illness. She was involved in a major accident years before Rolan and Nikolai came into their lives, and it hindered her eyesight. Medications and surgeries have been able to help her see thus far, but not for long. Her sight is getting blurry, and she can't see a thing without her glasses now. He also made sure to inform me not to treat her like a sick patient. He said she hates it and it spoils her mood. He also listed certain foods and snacks she will want to eat but is not allowed to eat. I've been repeating the names of those foods and snacks in my mind so I won't forget. These days my mind is like a browser with lots of tabs open and a series of downloads. I'm trying my best to keep up with my memory. "Are you always this quiet, or am I the cause of this awkwardness?" I turn to meet her squinted eyes and her smiling lips, completely at a loss for what to s

"First the 'shadow,' now the Grandmaster, eh?" Christian blows a thick puff of nicotine into the atmosphere while Nicolai and I stand behind him as he faces the glass door to the balcony of his office."That's what he calls himself now. Rumors say no one has seen his face. Apparently, he goes about with a mask," Nicolai reports, reading from the tab in his hand. Christian scoffs, but it sounds more like a short cough."I wonder why. Of course, no one would want to stare at a disfigured face. I'm starting to feel regret for not letting you kill him." He turns and meets my cold eyes. "So, what's the plan?""He needs to be put down. He is causing problems for the Italians, and he is doing that to ruin the joining of our families. He causes problems and frames the Russian soldiers for it. I won't sit back and watch any longer. It's good that he is under the guise of Grandmaster. We will kill him under the pretense that he wants to ruin our mafia and gain full control."Christian's eyes na

My mind is clouded with thoughts as I drive. Why did that man come to my office? He knows we've been searching for him. He came all the way to my office to tell me not to trust anyone? Who exactly is he? Most importantly, is he a friend or a foe or a clue to help solve my father's case? He did mention being friends with my father, but I don't remember seeing him in any of Dad's pictures.Dad never mentioned any ex-soldier, nor did Uncle. If he is a friend, why is he just making an appearance now? What is his mission? I hate not knowing. It makes me want to itch. This is not the mood I want to have when I meet Mother. I try to think of things that should put me in a better mood. Roland's veiny arms come to mind, the way they flex when he's handling me. His eyes, I can stare at them forever, especially when they burn with heat for me. Yeah, I love that. His suppressed moans and groans… A horn pulls me back to reality, and I realize that I'm not moving at a green light. As I enter the co
