The air in the room was thick with expectation and anticipation. They all wanted to know what Talia had learned. Brodie had some idea as he was linked to her.
She felt terrible but she really wanted to be alone for a while and didn't want to talk about it. She needed to take a beat and process it first.
"I know you want answers but honestly I'm exhausted and could do with some time on my own.", Talia looked at Dr. Stewart, "Do you think I could leave? I would like to be back in familiar surroundings."
Violet was about to protest. After what she had just witnessed she wanted Talia to stay another day or two.
"Please? I'm fine. I want to be at home.", Talia opened her eyes wide and pouted slightly. This trick had work since she was a young child.
"OK darling, if the doctor agrees then we'll take you home now." Talia pumped her fist in her mind then turned to face the doctor.
"Physically there is nothing stopping you. I'd like you to make an appointment to follow up once the blood work comes back but otherwise I'm happy for you to be discharged.", Talia smiled broadly at him, she knew there was a reason she liked him.
"No problem doc! Let's get going.", her eyes landed on Brodie.
Her parents sensed that she needed to speak to him so they made their excuses and left with Dr. Stewart.
"Hey. Thanks, you know for being here. It means alot. You're the first person besides my parents who has cared for me... So yeah, I just wanna say thanks." Talia looked up at his face, there was nearly a foot in height difference.
She hesitated for a minute before appearing to make a decision. Talia suddenly wrapped her arms around his waist in a hug.
Brodie stood completely still, in shock from this unexpected move from her. His body relaxed as he returned the embrace. It felt so good. Her body molded into his perfectly.
"Anytime Angel.", he murmured. She looked at him quizzically.
"That's the second time you've called me Angel.", the warmth from him calling her this spread through her.
"Yeah well... I figure it suits you. You don't mind do you?", he could hold her like this forever.
"No I don't mind.", Talia whispered as she nuzzled closer to his chest.
Although she'd used feeling tired as an excuse before, when she had got back to her house a overwhelming tiredness hit her.
"I think I'm going to run a hot bath then have a nap.", Talia gave her parents a quick hug and made her way upstairs to the bathroom.
She turned the taps on and poured muscle relaxing bubble bath in. As she was waiting for the tub to fill, she went through to her room and looked out a fresh change of clothes and put her hair up in a messy bun.
Sinking into the hot water Talia was completely submerged in the bubbles. It was the most relaxed she'd felt in a day or two... Almost. The memory of two strong arms holding her and a hard chest against her caused the flutterings in her stomach to return.
Talia closed her eyes and went over the memories she had pulled from the locked box in her mind.
Her parents had loved her. They hadn't chose to leave her. She still didn't know what had happened to them, whatever it was, it was her fault for not being normal.
She didn't feel like she was out of the ordinary. As she lay there she stretched and wiggled her fingers. No, there were no beams of light shooting out her fingertips, nothing was levitating around her. There were no super strong metal claws appearing. Talia laughed at herself. There had to be a mistake.
Her mind went to what the shadow stranger had said. He'd found a way to cloak her mate bond from them or theirs from her. So she had a mate out there but wouldn't be able to form the bond. Talia thought of Brodie.... That would be nice if it was him. A smile spread across her face.
Brodie had gone home to let Talia rest but he himself was restless. He had found his father.
"Doc Stewart asked her about her memories of before she came here. She could remember small bits about her parents...her life with them.", he was sat in the Alpha's office with Hudson, sitting across the desk from one another.
"And...did her memories shed any light on why her healing is different, more advanced.", he was very curious about this girl. He felt guilty that he hadn't paid any attention before.
"You could say that.", Brodie ran his hand through his silver hair and rubbed his chin, pulling his face down.
"Talia remembered her parents were terrified of someone. That person wanted to take Talia from them. They wanted to use her as a weapon, convinced that she has some sort of abilities.", his brows furrowed at the thought of it. As long as had breath in his body noone was going to take her away from him.
Hudson digested what his son had just said before replying,"Do you think she is special? Does she show signs of being extraordinary apart from the enviable healing?".
Brodie's face changed at this line of questioning. It softened and his eyes that were as blue as ice now held warmth. Hudson didn't miss this and a ghost of a smile played across his lips.
"Oh, Talia is certainly extraordinary but not in that sense that I have seen anyway.",Brodie's heart beat a little faster when he thought of her.
"Thank you for telling me son. Keep me up to date if anything else comes to light.", Hudson wanted to ask him about how he felt about this little orphan girl but he refrained. Brodie would tell him when he was ready.
Brodie went back to his room and lay on the bed. His mind was jumbled. Could it be that Talia really was more supernatural than the rest of them?
Her bond has been cloaked. How does someone go about that? Is it possible? The thought of her finding a mate overwhelmed him. He was simultaneously furious and heartbroken.
Brodie couldn't relax. His foot was tapping while he lay there. He jumped up and went to the shower, scrubbing until it was starting to hurt.
After getting changed into grey tracksuit pants, a white vest and grey hoodie he still felt keyed up and anxious.
'Talia? Are you awake?', Brodie decided there was only one way to settle himself, mind linking with her.
'Hey, I'm just out the bath. Is everything alright?', she was busy drying her hair.
'Yeah everything's fine. I thought we could go to the forest if you feel up to it?', if not he'd find an excuse to go to her house to check on her.
'Sure! Let me finish getting ready. I won't be long.', she sprung up to sling on a a pale grey tracksuit. Talia checked herself in her vanity mirror. Her cheeks were flushed with excitement.
She was just added a slick of lip gloss and pinning her wavy hair off her face when Violet called to her.
"Ali. Young Alpha is here to see you!", her voice was sing-songy and sweet.
Talia raced downstairs. She came to a stop at the bottom step when she saw him standing just inside the doorway. No way!
"We match!", was all she said. It was out of her mouth before she realised how silly it sounded and her cheeks blushed deeply.
Brodie smiled, "Well would you look at that, so we do.", her pink cheeks were adorable.
"Let's go! I'll see you later ma.", Talia shot her grinning mother a look and took Brodie's arm at the elbow to lead him out.
Violet stood at the door and watched them leave, "Don't do anything I wouldn't do!", she called after them in her sing song voice.
Talia looked back at her laughing mother,'Urgh'. Embarrassing.
The walk towards the forest was slightly awkward. She wanted to break the tension but wasn't sure how to. Talia hadn't been in a situation like this before so she said the first thing that popped into her head.
"Race you to the edge?", she looked up and smiled at him then took off running.
"Oh its on!", Brodie practically growled the words as he started running.
Talia hadn't been going as fast as she knew she could but when she saw him catching up to her she picked up her pace. Soon she was flying.
Brodie struggled to keep up with her. When he finally reached the tree line he was bent overly slightly, hands on his thighs, inhaling deeply. He looked up at Talia who was leaning up against a tree.
She looked slightly flushed with exhilaration but not like she had ran the way she had. Her eyes were sparkling. She was absolutely beautiful.
"You need to run more. Build up your stamina. I'll train you if you like?", Talia was laughing at him.
His male ego was dented by this, "You had a head start!", Brodie actually pouted. So cute.
"C'mon I want a guided tour.", She waited for him to lead the way.
They started along a well walked path. Somewhere along the way, their hands entwined with each other. Talia kept stopping to get a closer look at a plant she hadn't seen before or just to take in the stillness and beauty of the place.
Brodie humoured her good naturedly. His eyes barely left her small frame. He was enchanted by her.
The pair of them walked until they reached the stream. Brodie turned right. "Let's follow it. I'll take you to one of my favourite places. I think you'll love it Angel."
He led the way, pausing every now and again to check that she was OK but she was sure footed and kept up with him. Eventually they reached a small lake and clearing.
Talia was stunned! Her breath hitched in her throat. Who knew that such a serene place existed within the dense woods. She walked towards the lake. Kneeling down she ran her hand through the crystal clear water. It was warmer than she expected.
She turned around but Brodie was gone. Panic started to rise within her. Talia's insecurities started to surface. He had been messing with her. The affection he had shown was all a joke.
Tears sprang to her eyes and she hugged her knees to her chest. She rested her head against her knees and sobbed silently.
A gentle hand touched her shoulder. "Why are you crying Angel?", Brodie couldn't understand what had happened.
"You left. I knew that this was too good to be true, that you were just pretending to be my friend.", Talia sniffled sadly. Her voice was small as she lifted her head to look at him with her big watery eyes.
His heart broke a little when he looked at her. He knelt down beside her. One of his hands behind his back.
" I went to find something I thought you would like while you were at the lake. I didn't mean to be away so long and I'm not pretending to like you.", Brodie took his hand out from behind his back.
"This is the Bloodrose that our pack is named after.", in his hand was a beautiful flower, deep crimson in colour. He put it in her hair and wiped away her tears.
His hands lingered on her face, they looked into each others eyes, seeing into each others souls. Slowly Brodie lent closer too Talia until their lips met.....
There was an electric charge connecting them as their lips met. It was as if the world around them dropped away, leaving only them.Talia was initially in shock but as the kissed deepened she knew that it felt right. Brodie was the man she was supposed to kiss for all time.Brodie was beside himself with joy. Nothing in this moment could be sweeter than kissing this delicate creature in his arms.Talia parted her lips so that Brodie could explore her mouth with his tongue. This being her first ever kiss she followed his lead. They pulled apart, breathless. "Talia...that was... Wow!", he held her face and stroked her cheek with his thumb."Mmhmm", Talia leaned her face into his palm before pulling away from him.The loss of contact between them left Brodie feeling bereft but before he could bemoan the fact, Talia had crawled over to his lap and cuddled in close to him. Her body fitting in the gap between his legs and chin perfectl
It had only been three days since Brodie left me at the edge of the woods but it felt like an eternity. My mother tried to ask me what had happened between us but I sat silently whilst pushing my food around my plate. The glances shared between her and my father did not go unnoticed, just unacknowledged by myself. My appetite was gone, but I intensified my running routine, secretly hoping to bump into Brodie. So far it had been pointless. As I went on my third run of the day, I wondered why it bothered me so much. Brodie was the future alpha and up until a few days ago he didn't even know I existed. I'm sure he would forget about me in the same space of time.As I approached the edge of the forest I slowed my pace. The combination of more exercise and less food was making me tired. I stopped and rested against a tree, bent over slightly with my hands gripping my thighs. With my eyes closed and my head bowed, I focused on my breathing and the slowin
I sat in my father's office with a sullen expression on my face. I haven't slept well in the past few days and it's affected my temper."Brodie...", my father begins, "As you know I've been getting complaints about the way you have been conducting yourself the last few days. What do you have to say about it?"I shrugged my shoulders in response. "There's not a lot to say dad. I'm fine.", I'm staring at my hands with my head bowed."You are NOT fine Son. Honestly, you are next in line to become Alpha of Bloodrose. You can't go pissing people off just because you haven't got your own way!", Hudson knew that Brodie was too much like him. If he didn't like something, he sulked like a child. A trait that needed a lot of work to suppress it."It's not like that dad. She.... Talia told me she plans to leave. She can't. She can't leave me!", the anguish was clear in Brodie's voice.Hudson looked at his son with sympathy, "Where is she going? Does she want
Talia was anxious to talk to Brodie. The butterflies returned the instant she saw him. He was coming over.'Keep it together and hear him out', she mentally coached herself. She stood there and watched as Rose stepped in front of him, touched him.Talia thought he'd brush her off and come to her so she waited and watched as Brodie's expression changed to, from that distance, what looked like happiness. Her heart beat faltered and a crushing pain seemed to take over her. Is Rose his mate? Why her of all people? Well, she wasn't going to hang around and watch.Talia took off running, her feet carrying her instinctively as far away as she could get. Like a bat out of hell, she flew, faster than she had ever ran before. Her brain couldn't comprehend where she was. Only after her lungs started to protest did she slow down and take in her surroundings. Talia had headed to the forest and subconsciously ended up in the spot where she and Brodie had k
Talia woke with a start. She fumbled around to look at her alarm clock, the numbers shining too brightly in her half wakeful state. It was 06:15. There was no point in trying to get back to sleep now. She lay for a few minutes, staring up at her ceiling. There was a small spider in the far corner. Talia focused on it while thinking about yesterdays events which seemed all but a dream now. Trying not to think about her meeting with Brodie later was proving harder than she anticipated, his face constantly weaving through her ponderings. The butterflies in her stomach returned with a vengeance at the slightest thought. Talia mentally shook herself and with a low growl, kicked off her blankets before making her way through to her bathroom. She made up for the quick shower the night before by staying under the cascading water until she felt the temperature change. Grabbing a towel off the heated rack and wrapping herself in it's warmth, she padded back to her
School passed fairly quickly for Talia. The final exams were due to start next week so all of her classes consisted of prep and revision of all the topics that were likely to come up on the papers. She was relieved that she had managed to avoid Rose and her cronies but some of the boys took notice of her new look. Glances of astounded admiration followed her down the halls. For someone who had always faded into the background, this new found attention made her uncomfortable. The unwanted stares were not just because of her change of clothes. Now that her class had come of age or were fast approaching, the idea of mates and mating were in the forefront of many minds. Talia gathered her belongings as the final bell of the day rang. A mixture of excitement and trepidation filled her from her very core, she was heading to one of her favourite places to meet Brodie. Hurrying down the street, she ducked in the door of the cafe, cursing herself for not
The next morning Talia woke up feeling refreshed and happier than she had in days. After showering and dressing, she headed down for breakfast. "Hi Honey. Did you sleep well?", Violet spoke to Talia while her back was to her, engrossed in preparing stacks of pancakes. "Actually,I did Ma. I feel great this morning.", she replied as she poured herself some coffee. Talia grabbed a plate, inhaling deeply, and stole several pancakes of the top of the stack already made. "Hey! I'm almost done. You couldnt wait?!", her mother laughed at Talias impatience. Talia laughed along with her mother, popping the 'p' when she simply replied "Nope." Looking at her daughter for the first time since she entered the kitchen, Violet noticed the change in Talia immediately. "I take it you've made up with the young alpha then?", she attempted to appear innocent as she asked. "Yeah. We talked it out.", Talia sighed dreamily. This took Violet by surprise. She h
I made it to my first class by the skin of my teeth. I managed to slip in unnoticed, thankful that no one paid any attention to me.I pulled out my notes ready for the exam prep. The teacher stood at the front of the class, rattling through what may be covered in the exam. I highlighted key points and colour-coded references to make studying easier for me.I sort of lived for this. I'm a geek, a hard-core geek. I wanted to excel at everything I attempted. Not to gloat, I worked at something until it was second nature which was ultimately harder but far more rewarding. The next few classes were the same. Putting in so much effort and concentrating on the task helped me forget that I was going to see Dr. Stewart tomorrow.By the time lunch rolled around I was confident that I had all the necessary study-aids I needed for pack politics, biology and physics.I headed for my favourite spot on the grounds. Dropping my book-laden bag, I slumped down by th
The conversation flowed easily throughout the meal, like they had been old friends catching up after a long absence. They had moved back to the loungearea infront of the fire, stomachs fit to burst after three courses of delectable food. Mila had brought through a tray of coffee which was appreciated by everyone. Lounging around enjoying the comfortable chatter, Brodie hardly took his his hands off of Talia. He was always touching her in some small way, currently his fingers were playing with the soft, silky curls of her hair. Talia had been explaining to Brodie's parents about her plans to become a doctor, her inherant desire to help others when she started to feel odd, losing focus, her words refusing to form as she continued trying to talk. She went silent, her eyes rolled back in her head as her body started convulsing before suddenly going still. The panicked voices of everyone else in the room sounded fuzzy and far-away to Talia as if she was li
Talia was still sniggering as she got out the shower and headed back through to her room. She had heard the pair of them but decided to not let on, plus she needed some time to calm down from almost nearly moment Brodie and she had. If her mother hadn't come home, who knows how far it would have gone? 'Oh you know.', her wolf answered her. 'We can't let them mark us until your birthday. Fool around all you want but do not mate him before then.' 'I didn't intend to but is there a reason why?' Talia thought, not sure if she would get an answer. 'Can you tell me your name please?' 'There is no reason apart from the strength of the bond we will share. When I am fully with you, the bond we make will be one the strongest our kind will have ever seen and my name is Rieka. 'No pressure then!', Talia whistled as she glanced over the clothes on her bed. She dressed quickly, a little self conscious at how much her bra pushed up her boobs betwee
Talia linked her parents to let them know that they would be eating with the alpha family tonight, shutting it down rapidly again to drown out Violet's squeals and ramblings. Brodie was still wiggling his eyebrows at her, causing her to giggle with delight. She took his hand and led him up to her room. "I know exactly what we could do.", with a coy grin she led him over to the bed and sat him down on the edge. Brodie gulped audibly as Talia bent down in front of him, her tight ass on show for him, through her skin tight jeans, causing his own trousers to tighten at the sight. Brodie longed to touch her, palm her firm cheek but he couldn't work up the courage before Talia had righted herself with a backpack in her left hand, hooked by one finger. "You could help me study?", she was trying to keep the humour she felt off her face, to appear innocent, which was proving to be very difficult. "S..study? You want me...to help you study?", Brodie looked as
The room was silent and still. Brodie had stopped talking sometime ago and now they all were just sat like statues lost in their own thoughts. It would have been an alarming sight for anyone walking in and witnessing it, like time had been frozen within the walls of the room. Mila was the first to shake herself free of the trance that the heavy atmosphere surrounding them had created. She stood and walked to the window, one arm around her slender waist, the other propped up by it at the elbow, resting her chin on the back of her long fingers. She stood, staring out into the grounds and beyond that to the vast forest, her expression neutral. A small grin tugged at her lips and a warmth glinted in her eyes as her head turned towards the men, her body following on. "I think that we should meet your mate, Brodie. I'd very much like to get to know my new daughter.", Mila's smile grew as she spoke happy that her son will have a strong Luna. She wasn't at all sure w
Brodie thought about what Talia had read to them and if there could possibly be any truth in it as he walked back to the packhouse. He believed she was special, she was his mate, but for her to be directly decended from not only the first wolf but the Moon Goddess as well was mind blowing. He thought about the stories that he was told as a child. He recalled something about the first wolf had became enranged that there was now a superior line of wolves and he, feeling that he was the alpha of all wolves, set out to destroy them. The tale that Talia had read was a watered down version designed for children, where as the more mature version was a lot darker, with more death and destruction and less happily ever after. Brodie's mind and heart was heavy as he walked through the packhouse doors. He would have to bring his parents up to speed with everything but felt like he was betraying Talia, in doing so. debating with himself, Brodie concluded that if there was
"Did you really think that would work? Wolves, remember?", Lachlan pointed between his wife and himself. "We have excellent senses.", He looked amused rather than annoyed, which made both Talia and Brodie visibly relax. Lachlan chuckled at pair of them. "It's okay, you're both adults, well almost, and you are mates. Sleeping is easier, isn't it?". Talia wore a tight smile. She would've agreed if she hadn't ended up in another one of her dreams. She took Brodie by the hand and led him to the table, intending on getting coffee for both of them but he turned the tables and gently pushed her into a seat and went to get the drinks instead. Her heart fluttered, such a small but sweet gesture, sent tingles running through her entire body from the tip of her toes right up to her head. "Thanks.", she smiled sweetly as he handed her the cup. The four of them sat at the table eating a breakfast of mushroom omlettes. "Do you either of you know if being born under
Waking with a start, Talia wiped the hot, salty tears from her eyes. Inhaling slowly and deeply to stabilise her rapidly beating heart. She shuffled closer to Brodie who was still fast asleep. He felt he shifting and subconsciously tightened his arm around her, helping Talia to reach her desired destination. The shadow wolf had told her that he was the reason her parents were dead. She couldn't control the grief and guilt that had overtaken her body. If she had been born a day later, this could maybe have been prevented. Twenty-four measly hours. That was the difference between life and death for the wolves who gave her life. She knew she had two options in front of her. She could wallow in self pity and let the grief overwhelm her, risking the lives of the ones she now loved or she could these emotions to make her stronger, to train harder so that when the time came, she could repay her parents murderer in kind. Talia lay there for a while, unable to fall ba
After getting over nearly dying with shame and saying goodnight to Brodie, Talia was looking forward to an early night. She climbed the stairs, heading straight to the bathroom. She turned on the taps of the bath, pouring in luxurious, sandalwood scented bubble bath, in the hopes of getting a restful night. Talia padded her way through to her bedroom, picking a pair of shorts and a vest top from her drawers and tossing them on her bed. She grabbed her toothbrush and started brushing her teeth while she rummaged in her vanity for a pair of hair sticks. Letting the brush hang loosely between her teeth, Talia pinned her hair up into a messy bun using the sticks. She tossed her toothbrush in her sink and went back to the bathroom, before the bath overflowed. Stripping off, she stepped into the hot water and slowly sunk down beneath the bubbles. Sighing in pure bliss, Talia closed her eyes and allowed the scented steam to invade her senses, humming softly to herse
"WHAT?! Say that again? Your wolf, she spoke to you?", Brodie bombarded me with questions. He was even more confused than I was.Not wanting to get into here I said, "Let's go to mine. I'll explain what I can there okay? Plus then I don't have to repeat everything again to my parents. Two birds, one stone and all that.", taking his hand, we quickly walked the short distance to my house. My mother opened the door before we could reach it, fussing about the time, "Where have you two been? I was expecting you a while ago....Don't just stand there, come in.", She ushered us in with a flick of her dish cloth. She looked at Brodie. "You'll stay for dinner ofcourse, won't you dear?", my mother was like a hen clucking around it's chicks.Brodie was still reeling in shock at my revelation. "Uh...Yeah sure, Mrs. Christie. That would be great.", he managed to reply as she pushed us into the house."Tsk. None of that Mrs. Christie nonsense. It's Violet.", she tutted
