Chapter 63

Lena sat straight up and started shaking all over. I ran to her and wrapped my arms around her. While Isaac spoke with Alex about what was happening, Lena cried on my shoulder.

I whispered words of encouragement and comfort to her while I rubbed circles on her back. I started crying with her because no child should have to be terrified of an adult who helped raise them.

When her crying reduced to just a few tears falling once in a while, Isaac asked, “Lena, I know this is hard for you, but do you have a picture of him?”

She nodded, “Their wedding photo is on my mom’s dresser in the master bedroom. He doesn’t have any pictures on his dresser, so you can’t miss it. I really can’t go back into that house. My mom’s phone is on the dresser too. There might be some photos of him in it.”

Alex produced a clear bag and asked, “Is this her phone?” She nodded with tear filled eyes, “It is. Can I look at the pictures?” Alex took the phone out of the bag and handed it to Lena.
