“Listen up, everyone!”

The sharp voice of Mr. Whitman, the manager of The Silver Holly, echoed through the restaurant as the staff gathered in the backroom. “Today’s not just any day, today's going to be hectic, and I want all of you on your toes. No mistakes, no delays. We’ve got some of the most influential high-profile clients in New York City dining with us, and if any of you screw this up, you’ll be out before the day ends. No excuses”

Jasmine Withers adjusted her apron, suppressing a groan. It was the same speech every time high-profile guests were expected, but today Mr. Whitman seemed even more on edge.

“The Silver Holly is known for its excellence,” he continued, pacing in front of the staff. “I don’t care if you’re serving water or a five-course meal—everything must be perfect. Got it?”

“Yes, sir,” the team chorused.

Jasmine Withers, standing at the back of the room, exchanged a glance with her co-worker, Lucy. “No pressure,” she whispered sarcastically.

“Jasmine!” Mr. Whitman snapped, his eyes narrowing as they landed on her. “Are you paying attention, or are you planning to mess this up like last week when you nearly spilled wine on Senator Graves?”

Jasmine’s cheeks burned. “I’m paying attention, sir.”

“Good. Table six is your responsibility tonight. It’s one of our regulars—Mr. Chad Blackstone.” His tone carried a mix of warning and reverence. “You’ve seen him, haven’t you?”

The room went silent at the name. Everyone knew who Chad Blackstone was—the elusive young billionaire, known as much for his wealth as for his icy demeanor. A man who never smiled and whose presence demanded perfection.

Jasmine frowned. “Tall, cold, looks like he walked out of a GQ magazine?”

“That’s the one,” Whitman said.

“Don’t mess this up; you don’t get a second chance with someone like him,” Whitman added, pointing directly at her. “You’ve got one job: make him happy.”

“Got it,” Jasmine muttered under her breath, her stomach tightening at the thought of serving a man with a reputation for being impossible to please.

---

The restaurant opened its doors to the city’s elite, and the festive atmosphere buzzed with energy. Garlands of holly and twinkling lights adorned every corner, twinkling fairy lights lined the windows, and a towering Christmas tree adorned the corner. Holiday music played softly in the background. The smell of roasted chestnuts and cinnamon wafted from the kitchen, mingling with the faint chill of December air each time the door opened and customers trickled in, bringing with them the crisp scent of winter.

Jasmine adjusted her apron and moved to her station, she moved swiftly between tables, her polished smile firmly in place as she catered to the early guests. Her gaze flicked toward the entrance when the door opened, and a hush fell over the restaurant.

Chad Blackstone had arrived.

The man exuded an aura of authority that silenced even the most boisterous diners. He was impeccably dressed in a tailored black suit that fit his broad shoulders perfectly. His dark hair was slicked back, and his piercing gray eyes scanned the room with a cold intensity and expression that suggested he owned it, and when his gaze landed on Jasmine, it stayed there making her heart skip.

She quickly averted her gaze, pretending to busy herself with a menu, but she could feel his eyes on her as he was led to table six by the hostess.

Her steps faltered. The intensity of his stare made her pulse quicken, and she felt as though he could see right through her. Why is he staring at me like that?

“Jasmine, table six. Now,” Whitman barked from across the room, snapping her out of her thoughts.

Swallowing hard, she grabbed her notepad and forced a smile as she approached his table. “Good afternoon, Mr. Blackstone. Welcome to The Silver Holly. What can I get for you today?”

His eyes met hers, and for a moment, she felt pinned under his gaze. His voice was smooth but cold. “Black coffee. And the steak, medium rare.”

“Of course, sir,” Jasmine said, jotting it down. She turned to leave but paused when he spoke again.

“Make sure it’s quick,” he added, his tone leaving no room for argument.

Jasmine hurried to the kitchen, shaking off the unease that clung to her. She didn’t know what it was about him, but something about the way he looked at her felt different.

When she returned with his order, Chad was sitting back in his chair, one hand casually resting on the table, the other scrolling through his phone. He barely acknowledged her as she set the plate and coffee before him.

“Is there anything else you need, sir?”

“Yes. Sit.”

Jasmine blinked, unsure if she had heard him correctly. “Excuse me?”

He looked up, his gray eyes locking onto hers. “Sit. Across from me.”

Hesitating, she glanced around, noticing a few curious stares from other tables, making her even more uncomfortable.

“Mr. Blackstone, I don’t think—”

“I wasn’t asking,” he cut her off, gesturing to the chair opposite him.

She glanced toward Mr. Whitman, who gave her a subtle nod of approval—or perhaps warning.

Swallowing her nerves, Jasmine sat down, her notepad still in her hand as if it could shield her from the intensity of his gaze.

Chad leaned forward slightly, his expression unreadable. “You’re Jasmine Withers. Twenty-three years old. You’ve worked here for two years. You’re known for being diligent and… unapproachable.”

Her eyes widened. “How do you—”

“I make it my business to know the people I deal with,” he said simply, cutting into his steak with precision.

“I don’t understand,” Jasmine said, her voice tinged with frustration. “What is this about?”

Chad took a bite of his steak, chewed slowly, then set his utensils down. His expression didn’t change. He reached into his coat pocket, pulling out a sleek black notebook. “I need you to pretend to be my fiancée.”

Jasmine stared at him, dumbfounded. “What?”

“You heard me,” he said, his tone as cold as his gaze. “I need someone to act as my fiancée for the next few months.”

Her laugh came out sharp and incredulous. “And what made you think that person is me? You think I’m just going to drop everything to play along with your ridiculous charade?”

“I’ll pay you,” he said simply, as though that explained everything.

“Sorry, I’m not for sale,” she shot back, pushing her chair back to stand.

“What do you want, then?” Chad asked, his voice cutting through her frustration. “Name your price.”

Jasmine hesitated, the challenge in his tone stopping her.

“What’s something you want more than anything else? Money? Connections? A new career?” Chad asked, his eyes narrowing.

Her heart pounded as she thought of her mother lying in a hospital bed. The bills were piling up, and no matter how hard she worked, it was never enough. This deal could change everything.

Jasmine hesitated, weighing her options. She had no intention of entertaining this man’s absurd proposal, but his confidence was unnerving—and intriguing.

She crossed her arms, narrowing her eyes. “Fine. If you’re serious, she looked up at him, her voice steady. “My mother needs treatment. Her hospital bills have accumulated, and the cost of her surgery is beyond what I can afford. If you can take care of that… we have a deal.”

Chad’s expression didn’t change. “Done.”

Her mouth fell open. “You can’t be serious.”

Chad leaned forward, his piercing gaze locking onto hers. “I don’t waste time on jokes. You’ll receive a bonus as well. Consider it compensation for your time.”

Her throat tightened. She hadn’t expected him to agree so easily.

Jasmine’s mind raced. This had to be some kind of prank. But the look in his eyes told her he was serious

“I’ll have the paperwork sent to you tonight,” he said, standing abruptly and tossing his napkin onto the table. “You’ll be contacted with further instructions. Think about it properly.” He slid a business card across the table before walking away.

Jasmine stood as well, unsure what to do or say. “Wait—”

But Chad was already walking away, his stride purposeful and unhurried.

She looked down at the business card still in her hand, the weight of his offer sinking in. As his figure disappeared through the restaurant doors, leaving his meal half-touched, Jasmine sat back down, her mind a whirlwind of thoughts.

What had she just agreed to?

Had she just made a deal with the devil?

Jasmine sat stiffly in the plush chair of an expansive dressing suite, feeling completely out of place amidst the whirlwind of luxury. Three stylists fluttered around her, debating colours and fabrics, while a makeup artist meticulously worked on her face."Chin up," the woman instructed, tilting Jasmine's face to the light.Jasmine complied, though her mind raced. How had her life gone from scraping together tips at the diner to this? The unusual transformation was almost laughable."Perfect," one of the stylists declared, stepping back to admire her work. "That gown will turn heads for sure.”Jasmine glanced down at the emerald silk dress they’d chosen, its sleek design hugging her figure with just the right amount of elegance. The plunging neckline and slit up the leg were bold, but not garish. For a moment, she felt like someone else entirely—a stranger in her own skin. Before she could dwell on it, the door opened, and Chad strode in.The room seemed to chill instantly as his pre

Chad sat at his office, head buried in his palm as his mind raced. The previous night at the gala had been… a lot. Jasmine had played her part well—maybe even too well—up until the moment she nearly drowned herself in champagne. She had enjoyed Ava’s reaction, that much was obvious. But Chad wasn’t sure how he felt about it. Ava hadn’t spared him a second glance after their first exchange. Had she already moved on or was it just her way of ticking him off. Regardless, he didn't care or at least that was what he told himself. A knock on the office door jolted him out of his thoughts. Ahead was Peter. He gestured for him to come in and the young man strolled in with confidence. “This just arrived for you,” Peter said, placing the envelope on his desk. Chad's eyes roamed over the sleek black envelope. “What is it?” He asked. “An invitation,” Peter replied. Picking it up, he expression shifted, the seal was embossed in a golden intricate crest—the Reeds family emblem. Ava’s fam

By the time the phone hung up, Mr Whitman's voice came from the other end of the room. Jasmine internally rolled her eyes. What was it she didn't do right this time? Mr Whitman came into view, his face etched with worry. “There's still a lot to be done before Christmas and you're here slacking off on a phone call?” The restaurant wasn't even crowded and most people would rather spend their Christmas holiday at some resort and ski trip, rather than a restaurant, but unfortunately, that was spoken inward, he would never understand. Jasmine braced herself for her announcement. “Mr. Whitman I'm going on a family vacation first thing tomorrow, I wanted to tell you but it…” she trailed looking for the best excuse. “.. slipped my mind.” Nice one, Jasmine Withers. Super believable. His brows shot up, his mouth opening in disbelief before he scoffed. “A family vacation? Tomorrow?” His eyes narrowed as he crossed his arms. “And you conveniently forgot to mention this to me earlier?”

As scheduled, the Uber arrived at her apartment at exactly 6am. Jasmine, who was usually a light sleeper, had already gotten up earlier, ready for the rollercoaster she was about to get into. The drive started and an hour later they'd arrived at Blackstone airport. As soon as she saw Chad, a small smile creeped across her face. “Baby…” she called out. Chad, who was busy attending to a few employees, turned immediately. She saw his eyes go wide and only made her more determined. She stopped in front of him and pulled him in an embrace. She noticed him stiffen in her embrace, his hands hovering awkwardly at his sides. Jasmine could practically hear the way his teeth clenched together. “What is the meaning of this?” he muttered under his breath, keeping his tone low for the sake of the employees watching them. She pulled back just enough to look up at him, her expression fake innocent. “What do you mean, my love?” she said sweetly, tilting her head. His grip on her waist ti

The Swiss Alps came into view beneath them. It looked absolutely breathtaking with displays of snow-covered peaks and high mountains. The private jet landed smoothly over the mountains, and Chad took a quick glance at Jasmine. Her eyes were wide with awe and her face practically pressed against the window. Unlike New York, Switzerland was much colder, and winter had already settled in, turning the landscape into a pristine wonderland. "You act like you've never seen snow before," He remarked. She turned to him, a grin on her face. "Not like this," she admitted. "New York snow is just…dirty slush and cold misery. But this—" She gestured toward the scenery outside. "This is beautiful." Chad studied her for a moment, noting the genuine excitement in her eyes. He wasn’t sure why, but the sight of her so captivated by something so simple made him momentarily forget why they were even on this trip in the first place. The jet began its descent, and soon, they were taxiing toward a private

On cue, his phone rang and Peter's voice came through. “You’re sure the information is accurate?” He asked, already knowing he would have gotten the news as well. Peter hesitated for a fraction of a second before replying.“Yes, sir. The sources are solid. It’s all there. I’ve double-checked the details myself.” Chad nodded, though there was no one around to see him. “Keep a close eye, if anything changes, inform me immediately.” “Understood.” The line went dead and Chad's expression darkened even further at the message. "At Silver Hollow restaurant," Jasmine finally said. She wasn't exactly lying, it was where she met him. Ava looked a little confused, though she still didn't believe it. "Interesting," she turned to Chad. "Care to briefly discuss it? To lighten the place up a little?" she ended it with a giggle. She knew Chad since forever and could easily detect when he wasn't being honest. What Chad did next made her freeze. He circled his hands round Jasmine's waist pulling her closer than before. "I had been there for dinner, trying to get some quiet after a long day. I didn’t expect she’d be there at the same time too. I bumped into a waitress who spilled my coffee, and some of it ended up on her.” The crowd laughed lightly and Jasmine looked at him intensively, trying to figure out where he was heading to. He continued. “ I spent the next few hours making this up to her and I guess from then…” He trailed, turning to look her in the eye, her breath hitched. “I just couldn't stop thinki

When she noticed his presence, she dismissed the guy with a simple wave. The guy hesitated, clearly wanting more but one stern look from her, and he scrammed.“What brings you here?” She asked as soon as Kol halted in front of her.A snowflake dropped on his suit and he withdrew his hands from his pocket brushing it away.He looked at the sky, the snow was starting all over again. Then finally looked at Ava. “The hotel is a bit suffocating and I'm not used to staying cooped up in one place.” He said with the most nonchalant facial expression he could pull on. Chad strolled back into the hall, he headed straight for the hall where he'd last seen Jasmine. For some reason after the conversation with Ava, he was even more eager to see her now. Why did he behave so defensive when Ava had called her all those names? It didn't make sense. He barely knew Jasmine—at least, not in the way that should have made him care. And yet, something about the way Ava had spoken about her had unsettled him.He wondered how she'd even know about her mother's illness? and worse about their relationship being a fake? But that was the least on his mind. Right now, all he wanted to do was to see her.Just as Chad rounded another corner, he spotted Jasmine walking straight from the opposite direction. Earlier…Chad's face had shifted from its usual stone cold expression. It seemed to change anytime he was around her, he'd started to wonder whether if she had some certain control over him or if he was just overthinking it.He looked down at the paper in his hand, Jasmine's name was scribbled on it.A slight smile crept to the corner of his lips. It seemed he and Kol had similar ideas. Kol had asked him to put on an act, making Jasmine think she had him as her Secret Santa. He walked down the hall, his mind immersed in thoughts of what he would get her. He wasn’t a gift person, heck, the last time he got a gift for a woman was when he was with Ava, and even then, she was the one who basically handpicked the gift. The memory of their kiss kept replaying in his head. Why had he made such a move on her? It wasn’t part of the contract. She was just his fake fiancée, that was it.He shook his head, forcing the thoughts away. It had to be because he finally saw his brother after so long. T

Everyone in the retreat had gathered to witness the Christmas gift giving, there were a lot of shouts and giggles from the crowd as they handed one another the most expensive gifts. Jasmine on the other hand, had gotten a watch, it was the cheapest at the store yet it managed to run her account almost dry. She'd wrapped it carefully in a silver gift box, making it look more expensive than it actually was. It didn’t matter if it wasn’t fancy. It was the thought that counted. Right? She looked across the hall searching for Kol and Chad. Or at least one of them, if she managed to even tell them apart. She wondered if people weren't curious about how Kol had just shown up out of the blue.As she debated whether to keep searching or give up, a soft tap on her shoulder startled her.“Miss Jasmine?”She turned to find one of the retreat staff dressed in a black blazer, with her hair tied in a bun.“Yes?”“If you’d follow me, please.” The lady responded. “Jasmine.” Her voice came out strained.“Mom “ Jasmine quickly responded.”How are you doing?” Is everything alright?” There was a pause on the other end, then she heard her mother cough. When she spoke again she sounded even weaker. “I'm alright sweetheart. “I mean…it's a little complicated.”Jasmine wanted to push further, at least understand why she felt so off around him but seeing the slight change in Chad expression she paused. As quickly as the vulnerability came, in the blink of an eye it was gone. “So..” she started. “ Who did you get as yours?” Chad unusual playful smirk returned back almost immediately, amused by Jasmine's attempt to change the subject. He looked down at his card, as though he didn't already know who he'd gotten and then frowned.“What do I get her now?”Her? Jasmine for some reason panicked. Did he get Ava? With the way he frowned it had to be her right? “Who?” She asked, again.
