The bustle of moving boxes, bags and people was deafening. The smell of disinfectant and the constant ringing of the telephone hung in the cold night air.

Charlene stood aside as she watched the hurried movements of her father's men. They were suddenly moving out, at the dead of night, with only what they needed. No one was talking, or even looking at each other. It was all business.

As they worked to move everything into the cars, it became obvious to Charlene that it was really happening. They were really moving out of the house she had known as home for a long time.

She felt a heaviness in her heart and it ached. Her mind was filled with so many questions, like, how long they would be gone for? Would they ever return? What did fate have in store for her family? Was her father not overreacting?

After seeing Roman close to Calvin's house that evening, Charlene had run home to tell her father about it. She also told him about the vision she had seen concerning Roman. The war, the bl

Hearing the pain in Charlene's voice, Calvin was heartbroken. He wished he didn't have to hurt her like this, but this was inevitable since they were not meant to be. He wished he could answer her questions, but he just couldn't bring himself to do it. How could he tell her that he couldn't be with her since they didn't have a future together? She would be shattered, he thought.Maybe she knew that Richard was her mate. But she had probably kept it from him because she wanted to be with him. "Calvin?" She whimpered and he just sighed."Please go to bed, Charlene" he told her. "We'll talk when next we see."Calvin was not emotionally ready to confront the situation with Charlene. Left to him, he would avoid the topic and eventually let it be, but she deserved an explanation for his sudden change of attitude towards her. "Earlier, you asked me to go home and now, it's go to bed?" Charlene asked in an angry voice. "Did I even mean anything to you? Are you really going to act like I do

It was almost dawn and yet again, Phiri did not get any sleep. How could she? Even though her eyes were heavy with drowsiness and her body ached from tiredness, she could not bring herself to even close her eyes. She had been so shocked to see Roman that she had made a promise to him, without thinking. She thought about it for hours and she regretted making the promise of keeping him a secret from the rest of the Pentagon. It was her duty to serve the werewolves and she didn't think she could keep such a secret. It was going to weigh heavily on her chest. How did Roman survive silver that was thrust into his heart? His body had been missing for a while and that was suspicious, but never would Phiri have thought that Roman was alive.Another thing that bothered her was the relationship Roman could possibly have with the woman they had in custody. Phiri guessed that Roman had been alive all this while, but he only chose to show himself now because of that woman. The question was why?

Being far from home and that last call with Calvin made Charlene unable to get much sleep. She was uneasy and unhappy. Haunted by visions of the impending werewolf war, she awoke earlier than expected.Hungry and fatigued, she decided to sit outside. The morning air was very cold and she was glad that she had a sweatshirt on. After a few minutes of appreciating the scenery, Charlene began to ponder on her night vision and events that might make it come to pass. They had moved away from their home and were so far out of town. Would all of that really not change anything? Her mind quickly drifted to the future as her thoughts turned morbid: regular werewolves and zealots, fighting and killing each other. The part that sent a chill down her spine was Roman's involvement. That was a whole new twist and she would have said it was impossible, had she not seen him with her own two eyes. Why was he at Calvin's house? Did he come back for his wolf? Was he going to fight Calvin, who was now

When Calvin opened the door to Ivy's cell. He saw that she was seated like she had been expecting him. He cautiously stepped into the room, his eyes not leaving her while his mind wondered if she had really been waiting for him. "You came" Ivy muttered, though loud enough to his hearing. Like him, she looked like she had a lot of questions, only that she didn't know where to start. The members of the Pentagon weren't going to just sit around while Calvin had a chat with a woman who had tried to kill him once. Since the grand alpha asked for privacy, they decided to stay at the other side of the demarcated glass, keeping an eye on the two."Was that you?" Calvin asked Ivy. "Did you call to me?""You heard me?" She asked, looking even more confused and Calvin frowned. "What exactly are playing at?" He asked."I don't know what's happening" Ivy told him and she sounded honest, but Calvin didn't want to believe a word she was saying. Ivy wasn't able to get much sleep the previous nigh

Ivy was brought to the conference room and Phiri observed that just like when she was brought into the building, she didn't bother looking around. This made Phiri wonder if Ivy had ever been on this floor of the Rex building before.Just like Mark and Rufus suggested, they tested the telepathic connection Ivy and Calvin seemed to have. After making Calvin turn around, Rufus wrote the two words on each palm of his hand. He looked at his palms to know which he would raise when he did hear anything. While that was going on, Mark handed Ivy a pen and paper. On it, she scribbled two words. She wrote down "Calvin" and "Alpha". Even she wanted to really test this out. If she had a connection with the grand alpha, he was going to raise his two hands. Mark was surprised that Ivy added her own twist to all of this. He handed the paper to the other women and even they were impressed. "I still think this is all crazy" Lucille whispered to Phiri. "That's why we have to make sure that neither

Now at the rooftop, Calvin stood close to the edge as he sucked in the view. From up here, he could really smell the city, and feel the buzz of its people. He wondered why he had never come up here since he became grand alpha. He then sighed, knowing that he could only distract his mind by pushing these thoughts aside. Eventually, he would have to confront all of this head-on and that was something he was not very good at. "Is it her?" Calvin asked his wolf. "Is she my mate?""Do you think she is?" the alpha wolf responded with a question of its own. "Well, you've always been against every girl in my life. Even Charlene. And your reason is because they're not my mate", Calvin said as he squinted his eyes while looking up at the sun. "But I noticed that you haven't said a word against this one" he continued. "So tell me, is she the one?""I don't know" the alpha wolf answered and Calvin just lost his cool."What do you mean by that?" He yelled. There was no one there with him and an

The war and Roman's appearance in her vision was something Phiri was trying to connect with Ivy's sudden entry into their lives. She had wondered why a dead man appeared in her vision, but it turned out that Roman wasn't dead after all. Now, he was just without any memories and that wasn't a good thing. Also, in her vision, she had observed that Roman was surrounded by a strange darkness. He was obviously not the same man they used to know and he did not even try to stop the war. Phiri was beginning to wonder if it was this darkness that had brought him back to life and wiped off his memories, because she had been very certain that he was dead. Was that possible? And what would cause the war anyway? Why would Roman fight against his own people? She remembered his eyes from her vision. They blazed with fury and murderous intent. What would make a good man turn into such a monster? A woman, perhaps?Phiri remembered seeing buildings that was set ablaze and people were running in the

With the sudden change in weather and how cold the days had become, anyone would be able to tell that the year was coming to an end. And this was usually characterized by cold rain and then heavy snowfalls. This was a time of the year when the once bustling city would seem to come to a standstill. By now, many people have started "saving for the rainy day".As Calvin stood on the rooftop, he breathed in the cold air. It wasn't exactly winter yet but it sure looked like the beginning of it. He didn't really notice it until today. His eyes, which seemed to be staring at nothing in particular, suddenly took a glance up at the darkening sky. The plan against Adolphus had already been finalized and the Pentagon members were all looking forward to the D-day. On that day, they were going to strike without warning.Lucille had suggested involving the entire werewolf community, informing them about the latest developments and plans, but the grand alpha didn't think that was necessary. So for

The struggling sounds ceased when Ivy got to the entrance of the building. She touched her back to feel her injury, but it was not completely healed. She knew she had to be careful as the wound made her vulnerable. She could go into shock if she bled anymore so she threaded carefully.Inside the building, Ivy gasped when she saw Adolphus's head detached from his body. She didn't know how to feel about what she was seeing. Adolphus, leader of the zealots and the origin of everyone's problems was finally dead. She quickly turned her head when she heard heavy breathing coming from the opposite direction. When she saw that it was Roman, she quickly ran to him and held him in her arms. She looked him over and saw that he was seriously wounded. Ivy figured that it was Roman that had killed Adolphus. Way to go, she thought proudly. He didn't use to be grand alpha for nothing."Shh. Shh. Shh", she whispered when he tried to say something. She wanted to encourage him by telling him that he wo

The women of the coven sensed that their leader was already dead and so, they planned on carrying out her order. The moon, hidden behind dark clouds, casts an eerie shadow over the grounds, adding to the already intense atmosphere."They're here", Phiri mutters as she rises to her feet. Even Adolphus and Roman were now looking in the direction of the gates, while Calvin was more concerned about Ivy. He also didn't realize that Diana had just saved his life and was even killed in the process. He had just taken his hand off Ivy's back because it felt wet and when he looked at it, he saw blood. Ivy wasn't sure who the target of Calvin wrath was. There was Roman, who was standing in front of him, acting like a live shield for the second possible target, Diana. The witch was definitely in Calvin's bad books. Irrespective of anything, Ivy didn't want either of the targets to get hurt. While she considered Diana to be the closest thing she had to a mother, there was also Roman who she had shared her first friendhip with. Though he obviously wasn't himself, she still didn't want anything to happen to him. Therefore, she tried to reach out to Calvin's mind again. She really wished that it would work this time, but it didn't. It felt like he had shut the doors to his mind and reasoning that even she couldn't get through."I think we have to evacuate", Ivy heard Lucille whisper. "Because we really don't know how dangerous one attack from him would be."Ivy looked around at all the people. Many of them had shifted into wolves as they could perceive the danger lurking with the formi

The moon hung high in the night sky, casting an eerie glow over the quiet city. From where he was, suspended up in the air, Calvin looked down to the werewolves. It made him feel like he was one of them. One of the werewolves. For hours, Calvin had battled to maintain his sanity, but he could feel himself slowly losing it. His wolf was trying to accommodate his retrieved powers, but it was too much. Since it proved impossible, the alpha wolf was fighting the sorcery and it just felt like an internal battle.Being a wizard, Calvin was a master of arcane arts and he had dedicated the early years of his life to mastering the powers of magic which he possessed. However, even as powerful as he was, he could not bring himself to connect his powers with his wolf side. Why he was up in the sky, Calvin didn't know. He was unaware of w

Charlene's heart skipped a beat when she saw the Pentagon members. She was even more terrified when she locked eyes with Richard's brother, Mark. He obviously still bore a grudge against her for killing his brother and she instinctively drew back."Ivy" Lucille called, ignoring the presence of the Hayfords. "What happened? We've been waiting for you and Calvin.""He got his powers back. The tree died and he just lost control", Ivy explained. "He doesn't seem to recognize him and he was just roaming the forest all day."While Charlene was trying to make sense of what Ivy had just said, her brother snuck back into the premises to report the Pentagon's arrival to his father. "So that's what happened?" Rufus asked rhetorically as he looked up. "What could he be planning up there?""The question should be how do we get him down here?" Mark said as he looked away from Charlene and up into the sky. Phiri was quiet as she looked from Ivy to Charlene. The latter was supposed to be the succee

"I saw a vision this afternoon".Adrian turned to his sister with a curious gaze. They were still outside the Rex building and he wondered if she was sleep talking as she stared at her feet as she spoke. "Stop looking at me like that", she said and then sat up. "Well, I was checking to see if you were sleep talking", her brother responded. "I only did that when I was child", Charlene said with scoff. "I've outgrown that.""Okay. So how could you have had a vision when you havn't gotten any sleep?""I don't know", she answered with a shrug. "It just came to me. It wasn't a reality, so I just concluded that it was a vision.""Was it a good a one?" Adrian asked her. "The vision. What was it about?""In the vision, I saw..."Adrian turned to his sister when she remained silent for too long. She was staring up into dark sky, so he raised his head too, towards the big white moon.
