Miriam
I don't know why I was surprised to find myself led to a room next to the one I had shared breakfast with Aro in. He has said he was moving me to an adjoining suite to consolidate the guards, increasing security for us both. Still, I had expected to be returned to my original suite when we left the cells. I flung myself face down on the king-sized bed before me. The hollowness in my chest had decided to rear its head, leaving me with a painful emptiness.I wish you were here so I could talk to you Mikah. I thought to myself, knowing full well that I wouldn't be in this situation if my brother hadn't been murdered. I pushed my thoughts out, reaching for my twin, wanting a response I knew wouldn't come. Tears soaked the pillow I had buried my face in, and sobs racked my body.I hadn't been given anything to occupy my time when I was left in the room alone. There was nothing to keep the pangs of loss away. I sobbed until my eyes felt dry and there were no more tears to cry. My head was screaming at me, the pain of the previous night's blow wrapping around me like a vice thanks to my grief. I rolled onto my back and threw my arm across my eyes, willing the pain in my head to subside.I sat up with a jerk, the room was filled with electricity. Glancing around I noticed it was dark, but I was alone. Shit! I must have fallen asleep. At least the pain in my head seemed to be gone. I swung my legs over the side of the bed, trying to figure out how I could be alone if the electricity I felt whenever I was near Aro filled the room. A knock on one of the doors answered my questions."Miriam," came his voice from the other side of the door, "The guards informed me that Kira found you sleeping when she brought your lunch. I thought you might want to wake up and eat since it's past dinner time now."I could hear a hint of concern in his voice, but I refused to move to open the door. Just because I had control over myself at breakfast didn't mean I was willing to test it again. I heard him sigh and felt a twinge of regret."It's ok if you don't want to answer me. I understand." He paused, and I could hear him inhale as if preparing for what he needed to say. "I know the rumors about me, but I'm not a cruel man." His voice was barely audible, but I could hear the sadness in his words. "I will have Kira bring you dinner, please eat. I am just through this door if you need anything."I heard his footsteps move away and the sounds of another door opening from his side. Moments later, Kira entered with a serving tray full of delicious smelling food. My stomach growled. I was again surprised that grief was not suppressing my appetite anymore, though it only seemed to subside with I was in proximity to him."Your highness, His Majesty wishes you to eat. He is really worried about you. I've never seen him so concerned over anyone before." Kira blurted out before quickly covering her mouth in surprise."Please, call me Miriam. I promise I won't tell him about your little slip just now. I don't want you being beaten on my behalf." I stated, concern evident in my voice."Beaten?" Kira laughed, "His Majesty isn't going to beat me!"My jaw dropped. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Kira was laughing at the idea of the Prince beating her. Was I still dreaming? No way the Prince wasn't as cruel as the stories.Seeing my expression Kira laughed again. "Those nasty rumors really do get around. His father was the cruel one. Prince Aro protected us as best he could, taking most of the beatings himself."I couldn't comprehend what Kira was saying, but that didn't stop her from continuing."Prince Aro is kind, I promise. My mother said the late King was kind before the death of his wife drove him mad. They were fated mates doncha know.""Fated mates?" I interrupted.'Oh yeah. Loads of people think fated mates are a myth for our kind, but they aren't. It happens so rarely anymore, most started to believe we came up with it because of the way Lycans mate. They were really common before the kingdoms split. I think our clans not intermingling anymore is why it doesn't happen very often now." She said, wrinkling her nose."I think you're confusing stories with reality." I stated flatly.Oh no, there are plenty of fated mates talked about in our history books here. There's even a law in each kingdom releasing people from their marriages if they find their fated mate." That caught my attention, "You really think we would have a law about it if it were only a story? It's not a law that's unique to Fire clan either, each clan has it."I wondered why I hadn't ever heard of the law in my own kingdom, but something in her statement rang true. "Kira, is there a way to get access the laws of my own kingdom from here?" I asked."Oh sure. I know we don't really mess with human technology unless were in the human kingdoms, but Prince Aro is obsessed with it. He has a computer with access to all the archived laws from every kingdom. I can take you there tomorrow, I'm sure he won't mind. He said to give you anything you asked for." Her eyes twinkled with mischief. I had a feeling she knew that I had felt the fated mating pull towards the Prince."Oh shoot, here I am chattering away, and your food is getting cold" Kira exclaimed. "I should leave you alone so you can eat.""Do you mind, actually, to stay and eat with me?""Sure thing your high, I mean Miriam."Kira sat and chattered on about anything her mind came up with as I ate. She was quite amusing and a great distraction from the electricity that crept into the room here and there. I was really starting to like her. We could have been great friends if she had been water clan. I knew when I returned home, I was going to miss her.I hadn't realized I was starting to nod off until Kira stood up and spoke suddenly."Goodness, it's so late, you must be exhausted poor thing. I should go and let you sleep! The dresser has been stocked with everything you will need so I'll go and let you get some rest."I stood up and stretched as she left the room. I quickly made my way to the dresser she had pointed out for me and changed before sliding into the bed. I fell asleep before I could worry whether or not I would be able to.AroI was a little hurt when Miriam hadn't answered the door when I knocked. I knew she would need time to realize the rumors about me were just rumors and opted to give her space rather than force her to be around me. I couldn't help coming back to the door adjoining our rooms ever so often though. I needed to be near her. I could hear her laughing with Kira, it eased the ache of longing I felt for her to know that I had chosen the right person to care for her. Kira was a sweet girl. I knew she could comfort Miriam in her grief and would go above and beyond her duty to ensure her happiness. I couldn't help but hope that she would also dispel some of the rumors surrounding my personality. When the need to be near Miriam began to press against the edge of my self-control, I left my room to check on the status of the summit arrangements. Miriam had sent one of her men to the Water kingdom this morning, the guard that escorted her to the cells assured me she seemed confident he wou
MiriamI woke up feeling refreshed for the first time since Mikah had been murdered. I had a vague memory of dreaming about his last link with me and then it was all peace and electricity. I stretched, noticing the room was still full of the electric charge I had sensed last night. I glanced at the door between mine and Aro's rooms, it was closed, but he must be in there for the air to be so charged. My mind wandered back to the things Kira had told me last night as I kicked my feet over the side of the bed."Ooof" came the sound of a male voice from the lump I found myself tripping over.Arms reached up from under blankets I hadn't noticed before, grabbing me and pulling me down into an electric filled embrace. Aro was on my floor! The memory of asking him to stay with me came rushing back and my face flushed red. "Sorry, so sorry"" I stuttered, scrambling away from him.I saw a disappointed frown flash across his face as he realized I had pulled away from him. He quickly rep
"Oh! We're here!" Kira exclaimed. "I have orders that the Fire clan guards, and I are to withdraw a way and leave you with your own men to send your magical message to your father. His majesty felt it would be wrong for us to intrude since magic is so sacred. We won't be too far though so just yell my name when you're finished and ready to head back!"I must have looked like I had been stricken dumb as I watched her and the fire guards retreat. I couldn't believe what she had just said. Sure, clan specific magic was sacred, but no captor in the history of ever had left their captive without a guard from the captor's clan."It's clear your highness." Came the voice of one of my own men, shaking me from my stupor. "We could run if you wish your highness, just say the word.""No." I squared my shoulders, "I will send the message to my father and we will return. I am under the distinct impression that I am not actually a capti
AroI was in the middle of greeting the Princess of the Air kingdom and her mother when the voice had whispered urgently in my ear "Miriam! Go NOW!". I knew they were pissed when I flew off abruptly, but my instincts said to listen, something was wrong.I don't know what I was expecting to find, but it sure wasn't Miriam and her men being assaulted by the water. Seeing her tossed around and carried under like she was nothing sent a fear through me I had never experienced before. The only explanation I had for my ability to reach her and pull her out was a mix of adrenaline and help from the Goddess. Everything was a blur after that until we arrived back at my room. She was so pale, and her lips were so blue, I was scared to leave her, but I knew she needed to change into something dry. I had left her against my better judgement, giving her privacy to change, while
XaviarI was shocked to meet up with the royal procession just at the border between the fire and water kingdoms. Apparently, Miriam had sent her father a message through the water sprites. Whatever she said to them had them and the King and Queen in a tizzy. I was mentally flogging myself for listening to her and leaving her with that sadistic bastard the Fire prince when I felt the king place his hand on my shoulder.
Miriam"Your lungs sound clear and all of your injuries appear to be minor." Alana said, placing her stethoscope in her medical bag. "I do think it would be wise to not participate in any extraneous activities over the next few days, give your body time to fully recover. That includes sex."
Aro"I'm not sure how long I can put up with that air head, Fredrick." I said, running my hands through my hair as I leaned back in my chair. It had been a long day. I was in my office finalizing arrangements for
MiriamI had spent the last few days in the computer room trying to find anything to help me decipher the writing on the scroll I had found and successfully avoiding Aro. I couldn't find anything to put me even one step closer to understanding why my face was on an ancient document. Discovering the secrets of the ancient scroll seemed much more important than finding a way to break my fate bond with the playboy prince.
Taylor POV She had appeared, seemingly from nowhere, perched on a barstool at the end of the bar. My amulet had suddenly become hot against my shin and I knew she was supernatural. I ducked down, pretending to situate something under the bar, so I could peak inside my top and see what I was dealing with. I furrowed my brow in confusion. My amulet was red, it was never red. Black meant vamp, golden yellow meant were, white meant fae, occasionally it would be a mix of those colors signifying a hybrid. I took a deep breath to steady myself and stood, making my way to her. “What can I get for ya?”
I could see from the look in her dark green eyes, she knew exactly what I was. “I’m not sure what you mean.” I responded. “Sure, you do. You’re a vamp. I sensed you the moment you crossed into town.” She whispered, her voice barely audible over the noise of the few customers in the place. “I think you’ve been watching too many movies.” I scoffed, trying to continue the ruse that I was human lik
Prologue In the time before, there was only the three goddesses, and their brother. In their loneliness, the goddesses created creatures to populate the Earth. The wolves belonged to the Goddess Selene, the fae belonged to the Goddess Mab, and the vampire who belonged to the Goddess Nyx. Seeing how their creations worshipped his sisters, their brother created man, and referred to himself only as ‘God’. For a time, these creations lived
I stood in awe of the expansive castle before us. Our tour of the kingdom had gone exceptionally smooth. Aro had greeted the people as if he were one of them, rather than the fearsome Prince of the Fire Kingdom he was rumored to be. At each village he had taken it upon himself to help lighten the workload for the citizens for the time we were there, rising early to assist in the fields and hear any concerns they had. My people loved him. I ran my hands over my now visible baby bump and smiled as I thought of all he had done in our six weeks travel through the kingdom. My home kingdom had been the last one we visited, and after all the work we had done to gain acceptance from my people and establish local councils made up of fae from all the kingdoms had paid off. We now stood outside of the place called Exordia on the ancient maps my bi
Miriam“Are you nervous?” My mother asked, securing a sapphire encrusted comb in my hair. “A little. This isn’t exactly how I had imagined things happening.” “Well, it would have been much the same if it were Xaviar at the end of the aisle rather than Aro.” My mouth suddenly went dry, as if it w
Tyler I gently removed myself from Celeste’s hold. I didn’t want to wake her, but I needed to get to work hunting down any remaining vamps and destroying them. Aro had left Fredrick with the task of running the kingdom in his absence, but he had tasked me with ensuring that the vampire threat was eliminated completely.I paused for a moment to look at my mate as she slept peacefully before kissing her forehead and readying myself for the day. All of the packs were currently reporting to me at the fire keep, I wasn’t their alpha, but they understood t
Aro Miriam had maintained a respectful distance from the wake and funeral that followed. I could tell that it had triggered her grief over the loss of her twin brother. For the most part, I was able to excuse away her absence as exhaustion from traveling so recently after her capture. I was relieved that she appeared in time for the wing burning ceremony. While the people of the Earth Kingdom were understanding of her need for rest after my explanations, I doubted they would accept her as their new Queen if she hadn’t shown up for the ceremony.
“You know that we are now the rulers of all five kingdoms, right?” Aro asked after we had returned to our rooms for lunch. “Your birth parents insisted that they hand over their kingdom to their rightful heir, you.” I stared at my mate dumbfounded. My birth parents had shown up in the midst of the madness, talking about me being prophesized to reunite all five kingdoms, but I hadn’t expected them to just hand over the spirit kingdom. I was still a stranger to them after all, I had grown up believing I was water clan. I picked over my food, mulling over what Aro had just said, not quite able to wrap my mind around everything. “Miriam.” He said, pulling my attention fr
Miriam I woke to find Aro staring at me as if he wasn’t sure the previous night had been real. I stretched lazily before pulling his face to mine for a kiss. Feeling him relax at my touch, I took a moment to luxuriate at how rested I felt. A mild coma followed by a night of exquisite love making did wonders for me. My stomach growled ending the moment. “We should probably feed you.” Aro chuckled. “You’ve been nothing but
