Daphne

The house was massive. I had been back just over a day and I was still struggling to find my way around. It made it worse knowing that my best friend wasn’t even speaking to me. That Callie girl, Linc’s brother had escorted Lilah away, glaring at me as if I was going to attack her. But that was never my plan. I just wanted her to know that Colt is more of a monster than what she thinks he is.

Strolling through the house, I try to remember the way to the kitchen. Since I became pregnant, it always felt like I was starving, that nothing would satisfy my appetite.

Any Lycan that I passed curled its lip up in disgust, calling me a half-breed and spitting in my direction. I was certain that if I had never rejected Linc, they wouldn’t be saying such things. But that’s what they all called me. A half-breed and they made it sound worse than being a human. At least before the news about me was out, they would just ignore me. At least that was better. At least I didn’t feel as hated. T

Lilah“After everything that I did for her!” I scowl at Callie as she quietly closes the door. “She dared to call me a bitch.”“You need to chill, Lilah. The Alpha said you need to rest. This is not resting. Now park your butt on the bed!”“I just don’t get it. I’ve tried and I’ve tried.”“Exactly. You can’t do anymore, Lilah. It’s on her and my brother. They need to figure this out. Not you.”“Do you think they will?” I give in and reluctantly sit on the edge of the bed. “Honestly? I haven’t got a clue. It’s unheard of Lilah.”“There has to be someone else that has done it!”“I mean, there might be. The Alpha didn’t know of Daphne’s existence. But she wasn't born as part of a mate bond.”“Will you help me?” I askShe eyes me suspiciously and shakes her head. “Any other time, I would. You know that. But you have just lost three pups. You can’t risk losing a fourth. Whatever it is can wait.”“It’s nothing bad, I swear. And I can stay on bed rest.”She rolls her eyes at me. “Hit me wit

Alpha Colt“Kaitlin?”Daphne nods her head. Her eyes flickering between me and Linc. Between my mate having some sort of panic attack and Daphne telling me to keep an eye on Kaitlin, I let out a sigh of frustration. I look at Linc and he shrugs his shoulders. I had so many questions but my biggest one was about Grant. Why the hell was he here?Lilah has her face buried against my chest. “Hormones?” Linc mutters through a mindlink“Maybe!” I mutter back. It had been a long time since I had been around anyone carrying pups and it seemed like we were all in for a few surprises.“Daphne. What do you mean by me keeping an eye on Kaitlin?”“I spoke to her. She… Well it wasn’t what she said but more to do with her body language. She isn’t happy about Lilah. She was trying to become my friend but not in a charming way.” She tuts, shaking her head. “She just…. Just don’t trust her Alpha Colt.”“Don’t trust her?” I thought it was ballsy of her to tell me not to trust someone, when she couldn’

LilahColt stares at me for a moment, “You’re ready to let him die?”I nod my head, pushing myself into a seated position and rubbing my belly before standing. “I’m fed up. He never gives me clear answers. I would rather not know than let him carry on spilling snippets of information over the rest of my life. I don’t want him to live. I don’t want him anywhere near my pup. If someone is feeding him information….” I shake my head as I trail off, looking out the window.“What is it?” Colt asks, “You said no one is allowed to see Snare.”“They’re not.”Moving myself closer to the window, I frown. “Then tell me why Callie is heading towards the dungeons?”“Callie?” He moves next to me and I see how the surprise turns to anger. He pushes open the window. “CALLIE!” He bellows across the grounds.Callie freezes. In fact everyone does. No one moves at the sound of Colt's voice, because he sounded absolutely furious. She slowly turns her head in our direction. From here I could see how scared

Alpha ColtLilah stumbles into me as her eyes fall on the boys. Her eyes are wide as they follow the trail of blood down their bodies. Tears prick at the corners. Her mouth moves, but no sound comes out.“Lilah go back to the house.”She is silent, still and can’t take her eyes off the twins.“Lilah, go, now.”She still doesn’t move and I call to Linc through the mindlink. As we wait for him to appear, Snare continues to feed on the boys, not even bothering to stop because we were there. Blood was smeared all around his face and on his ragged clothes. Kailin hadn’t moved, her body still faced Snare.I hear Linc run down the steps, he comes to a stop just as Lilah had, his eyes on the bloody mess. “What the actual fuck?”“Linc, take Lilah back to the house. Make sure she is with someone, maybe Daphne. Come back as soon as you can.”Linc picks Lilah up when she still doesn’t respond. Snare stops feeding on one of the twins. He smiles at me, showing his teeth before locking on to one of

LilahI would never have done it without Daphne. I would never have had the guts to push the blade into his back! When the Lycans fell through the door, I had hit Daphne with my foot. Her eyes flashed open immediately. She had been pretending to be out of it too. She grabbed the blade, slicing through the rope that was binding my hands. As I rip off the gag, I feel a movement in my belly. Nothing bad, just a sign that the pup was strong. Thank fuck for that.Daphne yanked me to my feet as she rubbed her own stomach. Together we listened to the chants. The ones shouting ‘traitor’ over and over. But I knew it wasn’t aimed at me.“Colt wanted me to have the blade.” I muttered as we clung to each other.“Protection?” She mumbles back, wiping tears from her dark eyes and pushing the blade into my hands.I had shrugged my shoulders because I was still confused by what was happening. The last thing I remembered was being in the dungeon and seeing what Snare was doing.Daphne rubbed her sle

DaphneLinc kept glancing at me as Alpha Colt was explaining everything to Lilah. I still had no idea how he knew that I had killed someone. It was a few months before I met Lilah. And it was in self defence. It had been a scorching hot day. My skin was burnt from the sun as I had no protection. I had barely eaten in days. The water that I had was almost gone. I had no energy left and all I could do was sit here, in this overgrown corner.A bottle was thrown into my lap, I remember his words. “Drink, we don’t need another one dying.”I had just about opened my eyes to see a man with olive skin, standing over me. His hair slicked back, sunglasses hiding his eyes.“What do you mean, another one?” I had murmured the words. My lips were so dry and chapped that it made it difficult to talk.He didn’t answer my question. He had just told me to drink. I was so thirsty that I drank the entire bottle.“Good girl.” He had muttered before pulling me to my feet.“Let go of me!” I had shouted and

Alpha Colt.“Why don’t you ladies go grab something to eat. I need to speak to Grant.” I try and offer a smile but Lilah wasn't buying it. Instead she frowns at me. She never liked it when I said I needed to speak to someone. I had no doubt that she would question me later.“You better be nice to him.” She mutters through our mindlink as she walks away.“Only if he is telling the truth.”She flicks her long raven hair over her shoulder and scowls. “What is that supposed to mean?”“I will explain later.”Grant watches them walk away as well. “You let her come here but you wouldn’t let Sophie?”“It was the only way I could get Lilah to come back.”“Why?”“For some reason Lilah likes her. They get along so well. She actually doesn’t seem to force the friendship not like she did with that other girl, Halle. Halle was a friend, but not in the same way as these are.”“I don’t trust her.”“You don’t have too. But you need to play nice. She is Lilah’s friend. She is Linc’s… Well I don’t know

Lilah “Are you sure that you have never met him?” I ask for the tenth time. Daphne groans into the table. She had been resting her forehead on the wood since she sat down. “I swear. Sophie would never let anyone meet him. He was this huge secret. Obviously I know why now. But she would tell us things and then when questioned. She would shut us down.” “Who is ‘us’?” “Mum, Dad and me. If we started asking questions first, she would lose her shit. It would always have to be on her terms. Still, they couldn’t see how vile she was. Do you think they know? Would Alpha Colt have sent them a message or something?” “I haven’t asked, but something tells me he would. They would only start a missing person's claim otherwise. Do you miss them?” She finally lifts her head and shakes it a little. “They made my life hell in the final few years.” “Your mum, she’s not a wolf?” “No…Well nothing suggested she was. It means my dad isn’t my real dad. It’s like one surprise after another since comin

Lilah The next morning, I find Colt packing up the office. “Going somewhere?” I look around at all the half packed boxes in amusement. “We are.” “We are? Did you try talking to me when I was asleep?" He laughs at me, “No, you said you wanted to live in the apartment.” “You’re joking right? None of this shit is going to fit in there.” He had more than enough boxes to fill the bedrooms. Plus it would have remnants of her and I couldn't be somewhere like that. “I thought that’s what you wanted?!” He stops packing and places his hands on my small bump “Once, but there was barely enough room for me and ….” I hadn’t mentioned her name since I had set her on fire. Any time there was a fleeting thought, I would push it away and focus on something else. “You can say her name. She can’t hurt you anymore.” “No. Even thinking of her is giving her time. Anyway, what about when this one comes along? A town centre is hardly a place for a newborn wolf or Lycan.” He presses his lips to my ch

LilahPulling the blade from my chest. My lungs quickly expand, desperate to suck in some oxygen after what had just happened. The wound above my heart, knits itself together, removing almost all trace of nearly being stabbed to death. All that was left was my blood soaked top. For just a single moment, I was afraid to move. Afraid to look at the damage she had done.Linc appears in front of me. His dark eyes searching mine, her blood coated the skin around his mouth and his chin. He stretches a hand out towards me and pulls me to my feet. “You survived.” He mutters, running his eyes over me, “Not very many of the others did.”As I look around, I see that Callie had stopped jerking about, but her eyes were closed and her body was now motionless. Aiden was hunched over, weeping over Ivy’s body, surrounded by dead Lycans. “COLT!”“Here,” His voice is faint in my head. He was still flat on his back, from where Daphne had knocked him down. “You have to burn her.”My eyes flicker across

Lilah“Snare?” My voice breaks when I say his name. I thought he was long behind us. “What does he have to do with this?” “You should have listened to him. He was watching you. Just as grandmother requested.”“Your grandmother?” Everything was quickly unravelling. Everything that Daphne had ever done or said was all lies. Out of everyone, she had played me the most, lied to me the most. She had used my emotions to get what she wanted and I had fallen for it, again and again and again.“It really was you. You are the one that made the hospital cave in on us. You almost killed yourself!”She chuckles. “I knew I wouldn’t die well not completely. But the pissy Hybrid had to get involved, didn’t she. Sharing things that shouldn’t be shared. You and I, we could have been great together. A descendant of The Greats and me, a strong and powerful witch. But you ruined that. No matter what I did, you and your special Colt could not be torn apart.”“What about the photo?” Colt croaks from the gr

Alpha ColtHer breath quickened as she kept her hand steady on my chest. Annoyance maybe, or maybe she finally accepted that someone was lying to her. And that someone was Daphne. She shakes her head at me and moves away. “You’re wrong, Colt.” “Why are you refusing to see what is right in front of you? Even after all the shit you have been through, you still want to believe her.”“She won’t lie to me.”“How many times have you heard that? How many times are you going to keep forgiving her?”“She doesn’t need forgiveness this time because it isn’t her!”“Then who? Who do you think it is? And don’t you dare say me, again!”“That Ivy girl.”I wasn’t about to tell her that Aiden isn’t certain about her, because that would just give Lilah more reason to blame her instead of the real culprit. “Ivy was with you.”“Maybe she planned something, maybe she set something up.”“You don’t believe that. You are just trying to convince yourself.”“Fuck off, Colt.” She sits down on the chair, crossin

Lilah Making my way down the steps, I’m hit with a cold breeze that almost takes my breath away. Looking back, I see Colt and Linc deep in discussion, but at the same time, I could hear Daphne down below, her quiet sobs filling the silence. “Daphne?” She stops crying and her hands appear through the bars of her cell, “Lilah? Is that really you?” Stepping in front of her cell, she pulls me in for an awkward hug, holding on tightly. “Lilah, you have to make them understand.” “I’m trying.” I mutter. “But Colt still thinks you still want revenge, that’s why he is blaming you. He is refusing to listen to me.” “You’re not wrong. I did want revenge, but only because I was angry. When I saw Linc's dead body, anger was all I felt but then… I saw him, standing in front of me, like he had never died, only his eyes were black and all the anger, it disappeared.” “Do you know what happened with the hospital?” I ask quietly She shakes her head. “Linc told me, but it doesn’t make any sense. Aiden“You want me to find out if she had something to do with the explosion? Dad, she was with me and mum when it happened.”“Well someone is hiding something.” he snaps.“I agree,” Linc nods his head at me“It’s not me, at least, I don’t think it is.” Daphne mutters from her corner. “It just doesn’t make sense.”I tell her what Ivy told me, and what she had said to my mother. Daphne violently shakes her head. “I have already said, it wouldn’t work that way.” She glances up to my father, “I don’t know what you saw, Colt, And I don’t know what you mean by the light being under my skin. But I am not responsible for everything. You have to stop blaming me.” She leans her head back against the stone wall. I could see the light flickering along her neck.“You’re doing it now.” I stare at her“What?”“The light that dad spoke of.”She looks down at her hands and rolls the sleeves up. Her mouth falls open as she stares at them. “What’s happening to me?”“You’ve not seen this before? What

Alpha Colt.“Clear the room.”Callie, Aiden and Ivy all make their way out carefully stepping over the shards of china, when Lilah starts to follow, I grab her arm. “Not you. We need to talk.”She scowls at me and tugs her arm away, letting out a groan. I wait for the door to be closed and to listen to their footsteps as they walk away.“Don’t bother, Colt.” Lilah growls at me.“With what?”“You are going to try talking me around. Convince me that Daphne is the bad person. But it’s not her Colt, it’s you.”“What are you talking about?”“This is what it’s all been about, isn’t it?”“Lilah, you are not making any sense.” I literally had no idea what she was going on about.“You never wanted me to have a sister. You wanted me for yourself, with no one around to get involved. But one by one, everyone that has been a part of my life has died. Dad, my mother. Halle, Drake, Grant, my children. The list goes on and on Colt. Who is next?”“It doesn’t mean it’s all my fault.” I snap in frustrat

Alpha Colt“No,no,no,no,no.” Linc mutters from next to me as his hand starts disappearing. His dark eyes flick up to where my mate is and back to his hand.“She’s dead!” It was the only thing that made sense. It was why Aiden was hugging his mother, it was why I could hear my mate crying. And it was why Linc was losing his hand all over again.Ivy says nothing. She watches my son and Lilah with wide blue eyes. A slight frown forming, but the frown quickly disappears when she sees me looking at her.“I will go and help.” She declares and starts climbing over the rubble towards my mate and son.“Well, I guess we didn’t need to kill her after all.” I mutter to Linc“If she’s dead, so is her magic.” He shows me that he can move around freely. “It's gone.” He beams at me but those dark eyes show an emptiness that seemed to go on forever. What the hell happened in there?”“I don’t know.”“How can you not know? You were in there when the first explosion went off.”“Daphne was still unconscious. I was holding her hand when the roof started caving in. Colt, he pulled me away. He blocked me from the falling ceiling. He….” I knew he was blaming Daphne, but there had to be more to it. There just had to be.“Aiden, you need to let me go out there!”“No mum. Dad made it clear, you are to stay here with me and Ivy.”“Daphne is my sister!”“And she is the one who did this!” He glares at me with his grey eyes“I’m not so sure.” Ivy mutters from the window.“What?” Both Aiden and I speak in unison.Ivy hadn’t spoken a word since we had been in the house, well not to me anyway. She had spent the entire time watching what was happening from the window
