When we got to the door Amber opened it and waved me in. I stepped into the foyer that had a light-colored wooden floor. With cream-colored walls decorated with various pieces of artwork. I could already hear the roar of many people happily chatting away somewhere nearby, I could also smell various foods aromas floating in the air. Amber led me down the hall to a room with double door entry.

Before I could ask her to give me a minute Amber popped the doors open, the sight inside almost took my breath away. It was a large banquet hall lit by hundreds of candles and the tables were adorned with shining gold tablecloths, in the middle of each table was a large flower arrangement primarily made up of white lilies, and there they were my new pack, my new family. Once we stepped through the door, the roar of conversation almost came to a halt and several faces turned to our direction most were friendly and welcoming although I did catch a couple sneers. Its hard to even describe how nervous and scared I was. It felt like my legs couldn't possibly hold me up. I think Amber could sense my discomfort as she grabbed my arm and pulled me closer, she gave me a comforting smile that I tried to return although I probably just looked nauseous.

“Everyone give our newest pack member some room!” a booming, soothing happy voice sounded from the other side of the banquet hall. I instantly recognized the aura surrounding the voice, it was that of an Alpha.

I looked to the other side of the banquet hall where the voice originated. I could see the main table where the Alpha, Beta, and lead warriors should be seated, but there was a small crowd gathered in front of table and I didn't have a clear view.

Next to the table was a small stage with a podium, that is where I would be cutting the ties with my old pack to join this one. Luckily, I had stood taking in the room long enough most eyes had turned away from me now. I took a deep breath and finally took another step into the room. Amber continued to hold my arm as we made our way towards the main table, so I could pay respects to my new Alpha. Amber made a few introductions along the way, but for the most part we were able to walk straight to the table.

But once we made it to the main table, I started wishing the walk would have taken a little longer. There sitting in the middle of the table was the man I had seen today on Main Street. He was the Alpha! His face was turned in the other direction and as I saw his head turning in my direction, I bowed my head quickly not making eye contact. My breath caught in my throat as his scent made it to my noise, a fresh spring morning causing a pulling sensation in my lower abdomen. I started breathing through my mouth hoping to limit smelling his scent. It was customary to walk the length of the table with your head bowed to show submission to your new Alpha and superiors, I stared at the floor doing my best to put one foot in front of the other. How silly I must look, but it was better to look a little silly than lose myself in front of my new pack.

I don’t understand what is wrong with me. I have always been strong willed and independent, sure I don’t like large crowds, but I have never had to keep my head down to just get through something before.

I caught his scent again as I passed, I could feel the heat increase inside my body. I could see his hands on the table, and they tightened into fists as I passed by. Did I do something wrong? I couldn’t bring myself to lift my eyes to take in more of the gorgeous Alpha in front of me to find out. I just kept walking hoping to get further away from the delectable aroma he was admitting. I took my place at the end of the table and turned facing the room. There was a chalice on the podium in front of me and I knew I contained the Alphas Blood for me to drink to complete the link.

I was finally able to raise my head and take in the room in front of me, the pack that was standing and chatting here and there had for the most part taken their seats at the tables and were turning their attention to the stage. Amber gave my arm a small squeeze before letting go.

“I’m going to grab us seats at that table” she said pointing to the one on the other side of the room close to the buffet of food. “Meet you thereafter, ok?”

I gave her a small nod to confirm and tried to focus on detecting the individual scents of the different foods on the buffet trying to distract my mind from what was going to happen next.

The Alpha stood up to say his part and introduce me.

"I would like to thank you all for gathering with us tonight." The room fell silent "we are here to welcome another wolf to the pack. She is the cousin of Amber and therefore our family." His voice was soft and sultry but also stern, I still couldn't bring myself to gaze at him. Although I was pretty sure I could feel his eyes set on me, but maybe that was just hopeful thinking.

"So welcome to our pack Renee, we will now complete the pledge." He started walking towards me. My body stiffened as I tried to stay calm. It was like he could feel my discomfort and stopped in his tracks quickly. "Please recite your pledge." He said leaving a few feet of distance between us.

I took a deep breath which was a mistake as his scent filled my senses. A shudder went through my body, but I tried my best to compose myself. I swear the words were almost no louder than a whisper, but at least I got them out.

"I Renee Alexia Holt denounce the Grey Lake Pack and Alpha Tony Joesph Brock and pledge my life to you Alpha Ethan Wayne Gregory and The New Lunar Pack.”

I grabbed the chalice and took a sip of the blood. While it still had an overwhelming metallic taste it was also almost sweet. I sat the chalice down and turned in the direction of Alpha Ethan keeping my gaze down and my head to the side as a sign of respect.

“I Accept you, Renee Alexia Holt as a member of the New Lunar Pack” hearing my name from his lips made my knees weak but the happy sensation didn’t last long as I felt a snap of pain in my head as the old connections, ones that I have had since childhood, came to a sudden stop and new ones snapped in place. This was normal but damn did it hurt. My head was spinning as my eyes rolled back. The pain was so sharp I couldn’t keep my eyes open; I could feel my body buckling underneath me, but then I suddenly felt a set of hands on my waist and someone’s chest press into my back and all I could smell was a fresh spring morning. It seemed to sooth some of the pain away, but I still couldn’t bring myself to open my eyes.

"You are ok, I got you." Husky words whispered into my ear by Alpha Ethan. I felt tingles shoot through my body at his touch and almost moaned in happiness but the pain in my head increased sharply again before stopping so quickly you would almost think it was never there, I regained my composure. I took a step forward away from him, his scent was overpowering, and I couldn't lose myself here not like this.

Then he clapped his hands and then the rest of the room joined him in clapping. "I suggest everyone eats well for tonight we run!" He added and returned to his seat.

Everyone started gathering around the food table and I quickly made my way across the room to Amber.

“Well, what do you think of Alpha Ethan?” Amber whispered into my ear

I barely sputtered out "he seems great" before she placed a plate in my hands and pushed me towards the food.

I mainly just walked along the table as Amber put scoops of food on my plate before leading me to our table. It was a good thing she was there to lead me otherwise I would have just stood there in stunned silence looking like a moron. There was just so much to take in and while going on a run sounded amazing, it also scared me what if I picked up on Ethan’s scent in wolf form? Would I be able to control myself? It's probably not a good idea to jump the bones on your brand-new Alpha. But this feeling I had towards him was intense to say the least.

I ate some and did my best to focus on the conversations around me and to speak as much as possible to my fellow wolves. When the sun disappeared for the night, it was time for the run. It was time for us to release our wolves.

The Alpha and his entourage went to the woods first then we followed. I darted to the side of the forest instead of going straight in, I placed my folded dress and shoes together in a bag and changed into my wolf form.

Then I ran... I ran like my life depended on it, I hoped if I ran fast enough it would be impossible for me to smell Ethan and it worked. Soon I could barely smell any wolves at all.

It felt so good to let my wolf out, in my old pack, pack runs usually turned far more sexual than I wanted so I didn't participate unless it was mandatory. If it was mandatory, I would run far away from the others to avoid all the unmated males. But I knew from what Amber said that wasn't a problem here. This time I had to run so I could keep control. I wasn't used to feeling these kinds of desires. I mean of course I had thought about sex before I might be a virgin, but I wasn't completely innocent. This was totally different though it went right to the core of me, his scent alone made me want to moan.

“Stop!” I told myself you can't have a crush like this on the Alpha it looks bad. I come to a new pack and become obsessed with the Alpha that was sure to make the females in this pack annoyed.

I tried to block all thoughts and just run. The wind blowing through my fur, taking in all the scents of the forest around me.

As the sun started coming up, I found my way back to my clothes, Amber was already waiting on me. I changed back and started to quickly get dressed.

"My goodness women where were you running to?" She asked, she had already changed back and had her clothes on.

"It's just been so long since I had a good run, I got carried away I guess" I answered while looking at the ground and pulling my leggings over my legs. I didn’t want to tell her the full truth, I did enjoy the run, but I wouldn't have gone so far if I wasn't trying to avoid a certain Alpha.

" I think Alpha Ethan was looking for you, he seemed to be following your tracks, did he ever catch up to you?" Amber says looking at me out of the corner of her eye.

That thought made my heart feel like it was going to beat out of my chest. I tried to conceal any reaction but I’m sure my cheeks flushed. Why was he tracking me? I pulled my dress down over my head and I grabbed at my chest where my necklace usually hung, only to feel a bare neck.

"Oh no!" I said loudly searching the ground around my clothes.

"What's wrong?" Amber asked

"My necklace it's gone!"

Amber helped me look around the area but with no luck. I must have lost it on the run. I couldn't risk shifting and going to look for it now not in the daytime.

"Don't worry sweetheart, I will put the word out I am sure it will be found." Amber said trying to comfort me. We headed back around to the front of the pack house to Amber’s car. Most of the other pack members had already left. I guess I did run a little too far.

I glanced back at the house when a silhouette in the third story window near the center of the house caught my gaze. It was Alpha Ethan he was looking out the window at us. I could see his bare chest as he didn't have a shirt on. I must have looked ridiculous as I stared at his bare skin, my mouth hanging slightly open. I swear even at this distance, I could see a smirk on his beautiful face.

"Are you getting in or what? Hello! Earth to Renee" Amber practically had to shout to break me out of my trance.

"Huh, oh uh yeah" was all I could mutter in response as I pried my eyes away from Ethan and slid into the car.

On the way home my phone rang.

I answered the phone, and it was Shirley the lady who owned the craft store. "I'm sorry to bother you dear but my daughter needs me to babysit unexpectedly, do you think you could come in and cover the store?" She asked"Uh yeah I can do that, just let me get changed and I will head that way.""Oh, thank you so much!" she exclaimed clearly happy that I was available."No problem" I replied, even though I had been up all night, it's not like I could sleep anyways. I hung up the phone and told Amber I would be starting work today. "I don't know how you do it? Aren't you exhausted!" She exclaimed "Oh, it's ok, I can sleep when I'm dead" I replied with a smile and nudged her in the shoulder. When we got home, I got a quick shower since I smelled like the woods and sweat. I got dressed and headed to town. Shirley gave me a quick walk through and left. As I sat at counter waiting for someone to come into the store, I realized unfortunately there wasn't much to occupy my mind. It quickly

When it got close to closing time, Shirley came in to lock up the store. She asked me how my first day went and thanked me again for covering the store, so she could babysit. I told her it was no problem and everything went good. Once she finished locking up I went straight home, not sleeping the previous night was definitely catching up to me and I was starving which didn’t help matters. Luckily Amber had some dinner waiting for me and I didn’t waste anytime in eating it. It was some kind of spaghetti bolognaise, it tasted amazing as far as I could tell, but I was shoveling it into my mouth and swallowing as fast as I could. "I see Alpha Ethan found you." Amber said while I still had a mouth full of pasta. “hmm” was about all I was able to get out with my mouth packed full of spaghetti noodles, I raised my eyebrow at her question. She pointed at my neck. "how lucky it was he found it.""What?" I said confused having swallowed the large bite of food "how did you know it was him?"

The next morning came, and I was filled with energy, lunch at the Alpha's house possibly followed up by a run. Nothing sounded better, plus three days of waiting was almost more than I could take.I was dressed and ready hours before I needed to be. I wore my black leggings and a dark blue dress that flowed to my knees. My hair was down with a blue headband holding it away from my eyes. Amber noticed how excited I was, as she suggested we could arrive a little early if need be. I didn’t even have to think about it, but I paused for a moment to at least act like I needed to, I knew Amber already had a pretty good idea that I liked the Alpha, but I was never someone who could openly talk about my crushes, not until I was sure the other person felt the same. “Yeah, I guess that will be alright” I tried to say calmly without smiling, but inside, I was beyond excited.I was hoping maybe today would give me a chance to talk to Alpha Ethan without so many people around, and maybe I could

The next week passed by slowly, I tried to occupy myself by keeping busy with work and training. A couple days had gone by since the disappointing Saturday when I came home from the craft store to find Amber preparing a feast. I spotted serving dishes piled high with steaks, baked potatoes, and corn on the cob. It all smelled so amazing. "Umm I know we eat a lot, but this seems like a bit much for us." I laugh "Oh yeah Jonathan is coming over, so I figured we would need some extra." She responded "Beta Jonathan?" I questioned Apparently, this wasn't very out of the ordinary as him and Amber were close friends, she explained."Oh, I didn't know" I said smiling wondering if there was something else going on there. Amber wasn't as reserved as I was, and she was content "experimenting" as she put it with others until she found her mate. Soon there was a knock at the door. I went to open it. Jonathan was standing there with a tub of ice cream and the movie Underworld. "Up for a movi

I didn’t sleep well that night, me and Amber’s conversation kept replaying in my head. I couldn’t believe she suggested Jonathan and me should be chosen mates when we hadn’t even had a date. Maybe she was just trying to get her point across, when we used to talk about our mates together, Amber would always say why put off your happiness now, for something that might happen later. I understood where she was coming from, but I guess I was still caught up in the fairy tale of finding my mate. I finally rolled out of bed around 10 a.m. the next morning and headed downstairs for some breakfast, luckily, I didn’t have to work today and I decided not to train, I really just wanted a lazy day at home. As soon as I stepped in the kitchen, I was met with a booming happy voice."Hey there sleepy head." Beta Jonathan said surprising me. He was smiling at me while he was cooking something on the stove. I knew I smelled axe body spray and cranberries, but I thought it was just left over from the

Alpha Ethan’s (POV) I had just spent a week at the Alpha gathering in Nashville, and I was on my way home. I was ready to be home, back with my pack. Alpha gatherings can be such tedious affairs, but if I didn’t attend it would look bad not only for me but the pack.I ran into Renee's old Alpha, Joey and his mate Kristi although I don't think they were true wolf mates, more like they got tired of waiting. They were interesting, to say the least. Kristi bluntly approached me asking about, what I thought of Renee. I also couldn’t help but notice Alpha Joey seemed to be intently listening for my answer.I knew Renee was supposed to be Alpha Joey’s beta but declined the position. Amber said it was due to a difference in how they each thought the pack should be ran. To be honest it concerned me at first that Renee would decline such an important role in the pack, just because of a disagreement on how to manage the pack. I asked around to some of my contacts in other packs that had met Ren

Alpha Ethan (POV)They had her in a private room at the end of the hall, in a dimly lit room. The sight inside was heart wrenching, Amber was sitting right at Renee’s bedside holding her hand and Jonathan was standing in the corner looking far more stressed than I had ever seen him before. Renee looked so helpless on the bed. Her face and what I could see of her body was covered in a red rash, her eyes were swollen closed and very puffy, she had an oxygen mask strapped across her face covering her nose and mouth. Her breaths were shallow and weak."How is she?" I asked "I don't really know, the last time I talked to the doctor he said she was stable, but not healing how she should." Amber answered, her face was stained with tears. "I will go talk to them now." I said as calmly as I could, but I was annoyed what was taking so long why weren't the doctors doing more! As I was basically stomping out of her room, I almost ran over her doctor. "Doctor what is going on?" I asked my voi

Alpha Ethan (POV)Amber grabbed my fist and looked in my eyes and spoke. "Look first things first, let's find out what the doctor can do for her." I took a deep breath and nodded my head. I guess during the commotion the doctor slipped into Renee’s room as he was standing next to her bed changing out the IV bag.We all went back into the hospital room. It felt like someone was stabbing my heart when I looked at Renee. How could anyone do this to her. Even through the swelling and redness I could see her soft and sweet facial features. "What are our options doctor?" Amber asked "Well, they aren't great, her wolf side is incredibly weakened and therefore she isn't healing. If she was a weaker wolf, she probably wouldn't be alive right now." He sighed "but as much damage as there is, she needs to heal soon or she might not make it." Amber burst into tears. Jonathan pulled her to his chest comforting her. “Can’t you give her something to counteract the wolfsbane, so she can heal?”“N

Epilogue Esther’s Point of ViewIt has been one year since the battle for Renee’s life. After what happened I couldn’t bring myself to leave Southern Illinois. He would have made a great great great honestly I’m not sure how many greats grandfather to little Vickie but he sacrificed himself to save Alpha Ethan. When I removed immortality on Earth all the vampires returned to human and as far as I can tell I’m also aging again. Ethan and Renee opened the pack grounds to any once vampires that wished to stay and adjust to being human once again. Some staid while many others rushed back home as quickly as they could. Dimitri and myself decided to stay and I’m for the first time in my life truly happy. I have a little baby bump of my own now and I can’t express how excited I am to be a mother after all these years. Renee has blossomed in her roll as Luna and the pa

Renee’s Point of View The first wave was a horrible mess as the untrained vampires rushed forward their mouths practically unhinging as they tried to bite whatever they could. They were a chaotic mess, but thankfully we were prepared for just that, we fell back several paces to give the illusion that we were struggling. By the time it was over there were only minor injuries to report. The next wave however came rushing forward like a tidal wave. We had no sooner finished off the first wave before they were on us they were better trained and much more difficult to hold off. “Come on Esther, what is taking so long?” I questioned under my breath. We were trying to wait as long as possible before using the flood lights as it would inevitably kill many of the vampires and if Esther succeeded they would all be saved from that fate. Unfortunately we couldn’t wait any longer and Ethan had no choice but to issue the order. The screams that echoed will forever haunt my mind. As they evapor

Esther’s point of view Once I reached the location where I had hid the wand all those years ago, I was really wishing I hadn’t put a spell on it blocking it from magical recovery. There were mere minutes before the sun would set on Renee’s pack territory and I was looking at a research center sitting on top of the site where I hid the wand. I couldn’t believe my eyes out of all the places, here is where they placed their stupid huts. I knew the wand was still here I could sense it’s energy. I just had to figure out how to move the research pod that was sitting on top of it. “Damn it, I don’t have time for this I muttered under my breath” as I tried to think of the best course of action. I ran up to the window of the pod to take a peek. I could see at least three people inside. I decided things would be easier if they were unconscious so I cast a spell as watched as they all passed out. I ran back from the building a lifted my hands bringing the pod up a couple inches and scooting

Luna Renee’s Point of View As I stood waiting for whatever hell was about to be released I tried to run everything Dimitri had said about Vampire tactics through my mind. The vampires including my father couldn’t fight with us here with the uv flood lights that we had in store for the vampires, but they all did their best to prepare us and help us train. The Vampires on our side planned to circle around behind the lines to help us without being in our strong hold. Dimitri said they would send their least experienced soldiers first, it would test our strength and cause chaos. They instructed that it would be best to try to fight them off without revealing any of the traps we had set. They said we would be able to handle the first wave easily but to make it appear like it was hard giving a false sense of security to the next wave. This wave would be much better trained. This is where we could start using our traps and me to fight back. The hope was the second wave would rush forward th

*Esther’s POV I had been trudging through snow for over a day and a half now, I was frozen to the core and really wishing I picked out a warmer location to hide the wand of destiny. To make matters worse there was a snow storm blowing in and I had less than an hour to get the wand and cast a spell to remove immortality from Earth, before the Vampire would most likely be attacking Renee’s pack. Luckily the plane ride, boat ride, and dog sled ride here had given me plenty of time to work on the wording for the spell. I wanted to make sure there weren’t any loop holes. I only had 5 more miles to go but they wouldn’t be easy. I hid the wand in the most remote place in the world I could think of somewhere that no one should ever be able to find it. However that made getting there near impossible, if it wasn’t for having magic I never would have made it this far. To occupy my brain I just kept repeating the spell over and over in my head. “To the God above grant me this, remove immoral
