Aria's POV...
I think my words were too harsh and caused Devon to be startled. His eyes darted around like they were seeking an escape. Probably I should have kept my big mouth shut.
"What do you mean by death awaits you, Aria?" He inquired.
I sighed, looking up to the grey cloud, "Forget I said anything. My words must have startled you; I had no intention for that to happen."
"No, no." He waved hurriedly, "I mean, was I shocked; yes. But that doesn't mean I don't want to hear it. That is if you are comfortable talking about it."
Holding his gaze for a brief second, I sighed in resolve, bowing my head. "It's quite complex, but I will just briefly narrate it. I was raised by adoptive parents who had a daughter my age; they didn't treat me nicely. But I wanted to be nice to them and do whatever they wanted, which still doesn't seem enough. They decided to make me pay for all of their kindness, and they did a wolf swap between their daughter and me."<
Kyle's POV...My eyes were red when she walked in, looking as sexy as hell. Different thoughts plagued my mind when I noticed she also had light makeup on. She has never shown up in front of me with makeup. What the hell is she trying to do?""I want to believe you are not deaf. Where the hell are you coming from?" I repeated in the loudest and most intimidating voice I could muster.I saw her hands shake as they held the doorknob before she closed it. Taking a minute, she stared up at me with that blank look that annoyed me so much. "I went out with a friend."I couldn't resist the cackle that escaped my lips. "You? A friend? Who the fuck is this friend that I know nothing about?"She folded her arms underneath her breast, pushing it up a bit. I wonder why that little act has a wild effect on my dick. "I didn't realize I was confined to a prison, and I need to let you know of my every move.""Are you always this stupid? Do you realize anyth
Aria's POV...A guardian angel must have blown me sleeping dust to get over the humiliation Kyle had brought upon me last night. Waking up to the thought of facing my nightmare on a new day makes me so scared for my life. Taking a deep breath, my mood lightened when I remembered my discussion with Dante about restoring my wolf.Yanking the duvet off, I rushed to the bathroom to get dressed for today's training. I cringed at the look on Raven's the moment I got on the training ground. I inhaled deeply, trying to get my thoughts together; one thing Raven majors at is reading body and facial reactions."Don't even think about going stiff on me." She yelled the moment I got to her. "you have a lot to tell me."I sighed in resolve, sitting next to her; my eyes instinctively went towards where Devon usually stood. He wasn't there yet."Missing him already?" She teased."Can you quit with your silly act?" I muttered, trying to keep my irritation at
Kyle's POVI hissed at the sight before me. I almost thought she saw me, but it appeared she was distracted from staring at Devon. Satisfaction isn't the exact word to describe just how happy I feel for her fall; serves her right to daydream about another man when she has a mate.Turning away hurriedly, I walked down the hallway to the study. Appears the fall sprained her ankle; I won't be surprised if I see myself heading towards her. It's annoying to see Devon all over her for such a mere fall.I leaned back into the chair the moment I got into the room. I tried to get the thoughts of Aria off my head; she had occupied my entire thoughts since last night. I feel so disappointed in myself for going after her like someone who has lost his mind. To make matters worse, I didn't exactly respond to Barrin's call, which definitely would trigger some confrontation this morning. I have no idea if I am ready to answer to him. There is no way I would have been abl
Kyle's POV...I don't know why I am so turned up by Aria's rude attitude towards me. I should be more concerned with making her pay for disrespecting me. Instead, my memory keeps drifting back to her bandaged leg. I am guessing it hurts a lot, but still, it shouldn't be any of my concern.Deep into my thoughts, I didn't notice when I walked past the study. I decided to go to my fitness room instead. That would help me calm down; throwing some hard punches and lifting weights do me a lot of good whenever I am in a bad mood.Massaging my neck, I got down to business, sweating profusely as I landed heavy punches on the bag. If it was alive, there is no way it could withstand such a hit. I stood stiff when I felt a soft wrap around my sweaty waist.I smiled, turning around, "how did you find me?" I asked Barrin, kissing his forehead. He shrugged, "I went to check the room and study; you weren't there. And no one saw you head to the woods. I just knew y
Aria's POV..."Do you really have to do this?" Raven asked me, her face creased in worry.I shrugged stubbornly, pulling the trousers around my sprained ankle. The pain struck every cord in my body, but I had no intention of giving in to it. I want to believe it's a mere scratch, and I can move on without dwelling on it."You don't have to worry about me, Raven. I will be fine. It doesn't hurt that much." I tried to convince both of us.Raven scoffed, "Do you think I am oblivious to the winces you make? And there are also goosebumps that form on your arms the moment the leg touches the ground. Can you just quit playing headstrong?""This isn't just about the ankle sprain; I can't stay here wallowing in self-pity," I explained."Which is why we are both here for you. Let us take care of you, is that too much to ask of you?" Ella mused as she walked in with a colourful tray of sumptuous meals."Please tell her." Said Raven. "I hav
Aria's POV...I yanked my hand away from Barrin's tight hold, steadying myself on my relieved foot. "what is all this about?" I bellowed."How is your leg?" He asked, his eyes scanning my entire body."What does that have to do with you? Why are you concerned if I am hurt or not?"I think my question brought back a part of his senses causing him to curse loudly under his breath. Barrin took a step back, pulling at his hair; he thought for a moment before staring hard at me."I was just a bit concerned about your health. I couldn't see you yesterday since you were resting. I had to come down to the training ground to find you this morning."An amused look spread on my face, "since when did I become your priority?"Barrin snapped, "I am only doing this because of Kyle's heir. It won't be nice if you aren't in a healthy state of mind. Only a healthy body should birth the future Alpha."I scoffed
Aria's POVMy eyes twitched rapidly; I couldn't seem to get the hang of whatever Cassandra was saying. I took a few steps back. "why should I stay away from him? He is my friend.""Someone like you shouldn't be anything to my son, not a friend or foe. That can't work.""Why?""Stop asking me!" She yelled in my face. "You make it sound like you are in an actual place to ask me such an absurd question. I have never seen my son act this way before; he practically moans your name in his sleep. This is when he is meant to explore a different part of himself while on break from the pack duties, get a woman of his choice and probably get married. I mean, live his life to the fullest if you don't understand."My eyes bulged out, lost and confused. "What has that got to do with me?""I don't know what you have done to enchant him, but my boy won't be at your mercy. He shouldn't be found with someone like you.""Wh
Aria's POVI woke up feeling disoriented. Nothing seemed to make sense. It felt like I was in a different world. Gripping my head tightly, I stood up to prepare for the day. Turning on the shower, the moment my skin came in contact with the water, I felt a sudden surge in my body, causing my clit to throb. I have no idea why Kyle's naked image is suddenly coming to mind.I turned off the faucet, wrapping my arms around myself, shaking from the effect of the water. I had almost forgotten about the discussion I had with Kyle. Why he wants us to get more intimate all of a sudden surprises me, but I must admit my treacherous mind anticipates the days to come. After today's training, I will work on our meeting days. It's absurd, though;he can decide to come by every night. But then, knowing how hurt Barrin would feel if he found out his lover sleeps in my bed every night. Even though I hate to be nice towards him, I would try to contemplate the number of
Author's POV...Three Months LaterAria laughed loudly as she chewed on the cutout apple she picked from the plate in front of her. Ella had chosen to be the clown in place of Raven as she gave them a detailed report on how her wedding night had been."He acted like he had never seen me before. I had the best of moments." She sighed dreamily.Raven scoffed, resting on her elbows. "You act like you won't be returning home to him.""You are just jealous." Ella let out a tongue at her.Shaking her head, Aria sat up, adjusting the pillow attached to the chair to help ease her back. Things have been blissful since she and Kyle chose to resolve their issues by letting the past go and focusing on their future, including their unborn child. Her hand rubbed on her growing bump; she had never felt this much happiness in her lifetime. Barrin's death had taken a toll on them, but they have been able to get through it together. She has finally settled into her duty as the Luna, especially now that
Kyle's POV...My ears kept ringing consistently as the words of the doctor resonated. Aria is pregnant; she is carrying my child. I couldn't let my emotions get in the way of my plans for the Prowler's pack. All through the march towards the doomed pack with our armour and war trucks, even when we met with the hundreds of soldiers from other packs, I didn't know how I was supposed to feel. Either elated or deflated. The moment we got to the border of the Prowler's pack, grenades were thrown in to keep them off guard. Thousands of soldiers charged into the pack like we were at a real war. I had almost doubted the other packs would keep to their promise, but they showed up, proving they were wolves of honour. Some soldiers shifted and went into the woods to catch anyone who might try to escape from there. Some of my soldiers and a few others from the various pack had entered from the east side to attack the packhouse. I had instructed the men to wait for me to get rid of the Alpha befor
Kyle's POVMy heart pounded as I made my way to the large meeting room. Ever since Barrin got buried, I have been working hard and gathering my soldiers to launch an attack on the Prowler's pack. I do not care about what would become of me after the fight. One thing I know for sure is they would burn to ashes, and my revenge will be taken. I haven't been able to sleep or eat well for days; my treacherous heart and wolf keep yearning for Aria. I am supposed to hate her; it's because of her Barrin is dead. Most importantly, she is one of the enemies. I shouldn't forget that.I stood in front of the door; the guards had their eyes on me, expecting me to give the go-ahead for the door to be opened. I exhaled sharply, nodding for them to open the large door. I gasped softly at the fullness of the room. All of the Alphas I met with at the conference a few days back, except, of course, Anthony of the Prowler's pack and Wade of the Night Walker's pack, were all seated. Their eyes keenly watch
Aria's POV...It's been three days since I got locked up in the dungeon. I got to know because of the dim light coming from the tiny window that even a bird wouldn't fit through. Whenever the day shines, I get to see it from there. I had already lost every will to fight. Barrin must have been buried by now, died gallantly and deserves every respect given to him. The dry tears pricked at the back of my eyes. I haven't been able to shed any tears for a day now; it feels like I am dehydrated. No food or water has been passed onto me.Kyle really wants to teach me a good lesson. Maybe I should have surrendered to Wade the second time he had me. I shouldn't have strived to live. If only I had a glimpse of what would become my future, I definitely wouldn't have returned here. Kyle and Barrin would have lived happily ever after with me gone.Ella is the only one who got to sneak in to see me; she said Raven isn't in the right state of mind to face me at the moment. I don't blame her either;
Kyle's POV...My heart felt cold, and I could say that I didn't feel any kind of emotion. But I know it's not true; I am only this way because I let the tequila taunt me. The memory of Barrin's cold body and the holes caused by the bullets on his corpse made me want to pull an attack on anyone involved in his death. It's more heartbreaking to learn that my Aria was involved in it. We were fine; why did she have to be a part of my misery?I will never forgive myself for Barrin's death; he wouldn't have ended up with this kind of fate if I didn't choose to love Aria. We would be living in perfect harmony and have nothing to do with the Prowler's pack. I have avoided them for years and steered clear of that doomed pack, but I don't think I can let this slide any longer.I felt a sudden burst of anger inside me when I remembered Aria's confession about being a biological member of the devil pack. As much as I love her, I do not intend to return on my promise to end any soul relating to th
Aria's POV..."I think she has regained consciousness," I heard a voice say over me.I blinked slowly, trying to adjust my eyes to the beaming light. I felt the spot I was lying in; it was a bed. Squinting my eyes slowly, it appears to be my room. I tried to remember how I got here, and then a flash of Barrin bleeding and me trying to help him back rushed through my head. Like someone being pricked by a nail, I jumped off the bed."Hey! What are you doing?" Devon's sturdy hands gripped both of my arms. "You can't just get up like that."It took me a moment to get myself together; I shook my head hurriedly. "What is going on? How did I get here? Where is Barrin?"Devon looked towards the other man in the room and gestured for him to leave us. "You will need to sit down, Aria." He implored."No, I need to know where Barrin is. Why won't you take me to him?" Tears welled up in my eyes again."I don't know how to say this to you, Aria. I just need you to know that it isn't your fault...."
Aria's POV...I wrapped my arms around myself, suddenly feeling cold. My eyes lingered on the entrance of the Prowler's pack border; it did look horrifying, but I was determined to make my way in without a doubt. I stood by a big oak tree, watching the pack soldiers walk back and forth with their eyes keenly watching the environment like a hawk. This is my chance to introduce myself and go in.I hid by the corner of the road leading directly to the pack to wait for Barrin. He sounded really worried on the phone. It's obvious not even Devon can hold himself back from exposing me. I checked my wristwatch. If I wait here any longer, the time planned for my return to the Moonstone pack will be stalled. I can't have Kyle knowing about my move before I get the chance to tell him myself. When his call came in, I was still cramped up in the truck that brought me here. Until I found a good hiding spot to make the call, I didn't answer it. Stretching my neck a bit again, the border came in sigh
Author's POV...Devon shifted uncomfortably in the chair; he kept heaving every passing second. He still hasn't heard from Aria, he had tried her line, but she wasn't picking. That is, if her phone hasn't been seized. It had been thirty minutes since the truck she was in left, and from his calculations, she should have arrived at the Prowler's pack border.Barrin couldn't help but notice the change in Devon's mood, he kept mumbling to himself, and since he returned from checking quickly on his mother, he hadn't been himself. Since he hates being nosy, Barrin thinks it's best if people tell their feelings on their own accord. Even though his friend's reaction to every passing second was distracting him, he didn't say anything.Checking his wristwatch for the umpteenth time, Devon cursed under his breath. "I can't do this!" He let out."What?" Barrin inquired tiredly, dropping the pen in his hand. "Why are you acting nuts?"Shutting his eyes tightly, his lip
Aria's POV...My heart paced rapidly as I watched Kyle get ready to leave. I'm trying my hardest to not give my thought away as my palm greased the spot he had marked me. There is still little burning sensation from it. I have to be more careful with my thoughts until he leaves to avoid him getting a whiff of my intention. His mark has brought us closer, and our minds are more linked now than ever. I can only hope I don't get into trouble until we both return to the pack."Someone looks unhappy to see me leave." He teased, cupping my face in his palm.Without a word, I leaned into his chest, placing my ear on his beating heart. It feels almost the same as mine. I guess we will both miss each other a bit too much."Don't take too long before you return," I warned.Kyle chuckled; the sound tickled my ear. "yes, ma'am. I promise to be back as soon as it's all over. But you have to promise me you would take care and not wander around." He said, holding me forw
